Power of Love

Rate this book
Welcome to Mystic, Texas, where the past stays alive in more ways than one.

Vanessa Power, a budding Indie Romance author, believes the town is calling her name, being the new life and fresh start she’s craving. She’s met an amazing group of women who have a regular book club, reading only Indie Authors. Unfortunately, her new house is in worse shape than she thought and holds more mysteries than she’s prepared for. And then there’s the handyman.

Linc Ward holds more mysteries than her house and the town combined, with a past he won’t reveal in a package which is built for nothing short of sin.

Linc is captivated by his new boss, the only person in town who will give him a job, but only because she doesn’t know he’s an ex-con. Can he keep his past locked away, while at the same time indulging in his fantasies with the pleasantly curvy and deliciously sexy Vanessa? Probably not.

They are both looking for a new start in life. Will they be able to find it together? Or will something sinister keep them apart?

Warning*** This book contains one completed arc of the main characters, but the overall mystery remains unsolved for future books in the series.

***A Fire and Ice Book Reviews ARC Review***

What a cute book about second chances..

I loved everything about this book.. The small town, The Book Bitches book club, the romance that grew between Vanessa and Linc.

This is a new series by Anne Conley, and I can not wait for the next book.

Two thumbs up Anne.. You nailed it again with another amazing book!!

A wonderful first book in a new series. Romance, mystery and just a touch of the paranormal. Vanessa and Linc are great characters. Vanessa is new in town and makes friends with an eclectic and fun group of women. Linc has a past that results in insecurity and inexperience. A combination of drama, adventure and humor keeps the story interesting. The story does continue from one book to the next but each book is the complete arc of one couple. It includes sex and some bad language.

*** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review ***

I've been in a bit of a book funk lately where nothing was grabbing or holding my attention, and I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to find book peace again. I didn't know what I wanted to read and nothing was hitting the spot. I came to a realization that I hadn't read any paranormal romances in quite some time. Then this book sort of just fell in my lap.

Power of Love has everything that I look for in a book. There is a bit of a love triangle, some mystery, some murder, a paranormal twist, a touch of history, and some hella good sex scenes. The action started from the get go, and I was instantly pulled in. I started reading it and read about 10% in the first day (which with the current state of my life is a great accomplishment), and then life happened and I had to put it down for a couple of days. I picked it up yesterday and read all day and eventually finished right before midnight. I could not put this book down!

Vanessa is a great MC, and I found myself pulling for her throughout the book. She has been through some rough parts and I desperately wanted her to find love. There were times things were happening to her that had me yelling at the book... "You're crazy! Get out of the house and call Linc!!!!"
Linc, ahhh Linc. I don't really know how to put him into words. I just wanted to comfort him. He's been through so much, and he carries around his past and he can't seem to forgive himself even if the people around him have already forgiven him.
The supporting characters are amazing! They all have their little quirks and they help make the book even more unputdownable (yes that is now a word).

Overall this is a fabulous read, it's fun, sexy, and mysterious! The way Conley weaves history, murder, romance, passion, and the love of writing all together to create a wonderful story that will leave you breathless and reading late into the night. 5 stars!!

ARC Review for A Taste of Sin Book Blog

This is a fantastic new series from Anne Conley. This group of ladies, Book B!tches befriend Vanessa, the main character for this book, and take her into their book group. Line, the handy man sent to help Vanessa get her new house fixed up. This book is a great story of second chances, forgiveness and becoming part of a group of friends that will be there for a lifetime.

It’s a great mix of of these wonderful women coming together to bond into a friendship that makes you want to dive deeper into their lives. Luckily for us this is a series and I’m certain we will have the chance to do just that. Anne very successfully writes several genres into her book; suspense, romance, and paranormal. The true signs of a great writer is when you can’t put the book down and can’t wait for the next one.

FANTASTIC!!!!! Great story about second chances and mystery. I couldn't put the book down. I was so engrossed in the story. I love that everyone has a ghost and what certain ghost like to do. Some had me laughing. The characters are amazing. There is a twist at the end I didn't see coming at all. I highly recommend reading this book. I'm looking forward to reading more of this new series.

Title: POWER OF LOVE
Series: Book B!tches #1
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance, Paranormal
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Grammar/editing: ungraded – book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused
Received from: Anne Conley (for Beta reading)

This is the first in the Book B!tches series. They will need to be read in order, though there is no cliffhanger.

I love Vanessa. Like a lot of bookish people, she is a bit nervous about life. Still, she has made a tough decision – leaving her family home to build her own life in the home bought for herself. The house is a real fixer-upper, but the sexy handyman next door turns her renovations into eye-candy time. Linc has captured my heart. He is a man who doesn’t believe that his past will allow him to have a happy future. From the minute they meet, the spark is lit leading to lust and love. The roller coaster ride to their HEA is an E-ticket!

Her new friends in the book club are fantastic. Their realness captured me. They are the kind of friends we all need – supportive with a dash of sarcasm, under-handedness, and sometimes downright harshness when needed.

One of the interesting back-stories to this book is that the characters in the book club are (loosely) based on other Indie authors who are friends with Anne Conley. That means those sneaky sarcastic bitches are real!! I think a certain, favorite, blogger/BETA reader should also have a character – just sayin’!

Anne, I pray you never quit writing and allowing me to read from your wonderful imagination. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey.

I was given this ARC for a fair and honest review...

Wow...what a beginning to a series....to say I loved it would be an understatement!

Vanessa moves into a small town called Mystic....she bought ( sight unseen) a house in quite disrepair, but she fell in love with it right away. Needing supplies she heads to the town hardware store where she meets a gal named Sam... When Vanessa told her where she moved into, Sam told her that her brother Linc was a handy man and could help her..... There was an immediate attraction between Linc and Vanessa ,but two people with secrets sometimes doesn't end well or does it? Now being part of Sams book club, The Book Bitches, whatever Vanessa deals with, she has friends on her side willing to help.
A lot of odd things happen in Mystic... and that's what gives it it's charm.
I look forward to the next chapter of this towns story and the Book Bitches who reside there.

I really enjoyed this book and so excited for what will be to come in this series.
Vanessa moves to Mystic, TX to start over and finds herself enjoying the present and past residents of the cozy town. A group of women, called the Book B!tches, instantly make her one of their own and help her along the way. She is a likable character who knows what she wants (Linc) and goes for it. And with a guy like Linc, who wouldn't?
It is a great story about finding independence, learning to forgive (even if it's forgiving yourself), and second chances.

Received ARC for honest review. ~~~~

Anne Conley did not disappoint. I love Vanessa and Linc. I love the book club- I want to join. Ha. I would enjoy living in a town where ghosts are welcomed, accepted, and expected. I enjoyed the tension between the two of them in the beginning. I can't even fathom a sexy carpenter working in my house with his shirt off. I love the mystery to the series. This book has a lot of forgiveness and love. The power of love is strong.
I did not like how it ended and left me hanging until the next book is out. Ugh. Ha.

So this was totally and completely an unexpected wow for me. I did not expect this to be supernatural, twists and turns that had me like no freaking way, and the ending totally pisses me off. Cuz it's basically my bed time and I need to know what happens now. LOL

Book jumped between 4 and 2 stars for me. I mostly liked the story and the characters. However, it is a 3 (boarding 2) because of the OW drama as well as Lincs behavoir for a part of it.

Cover:
Editing/proofing:
Seems professional, only a few errors noticed.

Formatting:
Absolutely gorgeous! If only every book were this pretty.

Character development:
So much fun! I like Vanessa and her house- yes her house- is its own character, I think- immediately. All of the book b!tches are great, I related to them all. The town itself is another character and I quickly fell in love with the small-town vibe. There are characters to loathe, characters to root for, and characters whose books I think I’ve already predicted - overall brilliant design all around, with impressive attention to detail.

Overall:
Wow. This book sucked me in fast and I immediately realized that putting it down resulted in serious separation anxiety. I missed it every second that I wasn’t in it. It was like a drug - I was trying to read it while walking around my neighborhood on errands, and while simultaneously talking to customers at work, for example. Hazardous!

This book has lots going on: there’s romance with heat. There’s new friendships with some really fun women -though I may be partial to the Book Bitches. There’s a bit of paranormal activity with some friendly ghosts that completely add to the charm of the town and every building in it. There’s history, and it’s completely real-feeling and fun and addictive - Conley should publish more Historicals, I’d read those all day. There’s also some modern-day mystery, which I’ll let you see for yourself… Definitely highly recommend this book.

I tend to predict everything, and I usually will not rate a book 5 stars unless it can manage to surprise me somewhere. However, this is a 5-star read, surprises or not. That said, there were a few little surprises /a few things that didn’t go exactly to my predictions.

I’ll be very impatiently waiting on the rest of this series and I strongly recommend giving this book a read. If you’ve never read Conley- do it. Start with this or Saving Charlie or Craze (which is free at the time of this posting).

As shown on Books and Boys Book Blog.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began to read ’Power of Love’ by Anne Conley as I was going in blind without reading the blurb first. Imagine my surprise when things took a bit of a paranormal twist as well as having a murder mystery, love triangle with a bunch of romance reading book bitches. Wow, this was so much more than I thought it was going to be and for a first time reader of Anne Conley I was thoroughly impressed, 4 stars.

Although this had a lot going it wasn’t too much and read really well. I loved how the paranormal side was blended in as part of the norm and accepted by members of the community, although I’m not sure I would like them as part of my norm.

Vanessa was a likable character and you wanted things to work out for her right from the get go and you automatically want her and Linc to get together. I’m not sure who I felt more for between Linc and Vanessa as they both had so much stuff to deal with and deserved something good in their lives but I think Linc just managed to tug at the heartstrings a bit more. He was a man that was punishing himself by living in his past and not believing he will have happiness.

All the characters surrounding Vanessa and Linc in the story were also so well written and provided plenty of enjoyment. I loved the book club and everyone in it and would have loved to make friends with people like them.

This was a great way for me to get to know the writing of Anne Conley and I will definitely be reading more from her and especially in this series.

Start with I love Anne Conley

To start with I know im in the minority and im sorry but I wanted to give my honest opinion of this book and its charecters One of my biggest book NoNos is the hero messing around with another female after meeting heroin. I don't want to read about him having sex with someone else. I'm ok with him having a past and even being a man wh*r* in said past but I want to focus on Linc and Van not Linc and the town sl*t. I also couldn't get over how he could hurt her that way and she just forgave him. Spoilers**** he constantly jumps to conclusions one of them ending up with him shacking up with said sl*t for a long period of time and Van just rolls over and says how do we fix this. This is only one time he treated her like this out of many and this one plus the treating her "like a blow up doll" were one I couldn't get over He no longer was redeemable in my eyes so if you like books with heros who are too realistic and like the f***ed up men in real life who screw women over and it's all ok then this is for you if you want a slightly flawed but great man and hero I'd move on to another book I want to actually like the characters I read about.

This is the first book of the Book Bitches series. Y Anne Conley. I was not sure if I’d like it since I’m not really into the whole supernatural/far/shifter/whatever else type books/stories. Well, this one, although it had ghosts in the story, was really enjoyable!
This is Linc and Vanessa’s story.
She bought a house out in the middle of nowhere’s-ville and next to the towns prison.
Vanessa is an indie author, who is befriended by a book group, known as the Book Bitches. Linc’s sister is in the book group. Linc is an ex con who went away as an older teen. He’s been out now and living on guilt. He would get on my nerves periodically with his manly attitude issues, but he is a good guy trying to do what he thinks is right. Buuuut, men are usually wrong. Lol. This was no different.
This book has a homeless guy, a rich chick, a single mom, an ex con, ghosts, and a killer.
This really was an enjoyable read.
You won’t be disappointed if you read this book!

So this rating scales doesn't allow for halves, or I would give this book a 3.5. The" Power of Love" is a good rainy day read. Anne Conley knows how to write a steamy scene. I definitely enjoyed the book as a quick and enjoyable read. However, there were a few things that stopped this book from being a non-stop read for me. In quite a few points in this book the author tending to tell rather than "show" us what was going on. It put a redundancy that drew me away from the story itself. While I enjoyed the steamy love scenes, you might need a little ice to cool down your libido, sometimes it felt like the author was purposely being vulgar. Vulgar in areas that drew away from the moment. But all in all I would recommend this book to my friends and look forward to seeing what the author has in store for this series.

I found this series because of another series written by this author. Anne was a brand new to me author who wrote a book for another's Kindle World. It was love at first read. I have read most (if not all) of her books now. I love them all especially Pierce Securities (the one I started on) and this one.

I can not say what I love so much about this book. I am not usually big on paranormal or second chances yet I loved this. The paranormal wasn't a huge part of the book and it made sense and ultimately sweet. The second chance wasn't the typical one although there were certainly elements of the traditional I messed up second chance.

If you are having trouble finding something to read and you are looking for sweet and hot. Look no further. This book is funny and will make your feel.

It was ok. There was so much going on with the town where ghosts thrive and a ghost attached to each person or their house in the town. Their was also the aspect of the missing girl and outcome of what happened to her. Not only the ghost in Vanessa new house, but the doll that kept reappearing after being thrown away. Vanessa and Linc had a few life battles to overcome, but Linc was too weak for me. He was a good guy and protected Vanessa when necessary, but how he never trusted her and kept going back to the town slut was too much for me.

Hot, hot, HOT!!!!! Such a good book and it wasn't just romance, there was a ton of creepy stuff that happened in it as well. And can I say, cliffhanger????!!!!!!! This book centers around a woman named Vanessa and her love interest Linc. Tons of heart breaking things took place, but I don't want to give it away. If you are looking for a book with romance, thriller, and maybe a little creepy, this is THE book!!! Cannot wait to read the next one.

More please, now!

OMG! I fell in love with Mystic, TX at the beginning and it followed all through the book.
Starting over, being independent, and being away from family and friends resonates in my life. Vanessa is the kind of woman I want to be.
I was worried, scared, giggled, gasped, fell in love, and fought right along with the characters.
You really need to read this series.
