A nightmare come true . . .

Years ago, a fifteen-year-old girl was abducted by a monster. Although she managed to escape, her tormenter was never caught. So the girl was given a new home, a new name . . . and the determination to save other foster kids from suffering similar horrors.

FBI Agent Becca Lange is in the middle of a credit card fraud investigation when she's faced with her worst nightmare: a serial killer, van Gogh--given the name because he removed his victims' ears--has resurfaced. Back in the nineties, van Gogh tortured, then killed several young foster girls. Becca was almost one of them.

Over the years, Becca's been keeping her own investigation going. So when the police come to her for help, she's more than ready to do what it takes to put van Gogh behind bars--even if it means working with Connor Warren, the easy-going cop whose attentions she's been avoiding. Connor is too charming, too good-looking, too . . . tempting. He makes Becca want things she can never have. And might never have . . .

Because van Gogh isn't finished with Becca yet. He's been searching for her all these years. And now that he's found her, he's got a plan to keep her . . . forever.

FBI agent Becca is buried in a credit card investigation when she hears a name that sends chills down her spine. She's been hunting and investigating a man who goes by the name of van Gogh for years. It's been strictly off the books, during her free time. But now that he's killing again, she's being pulled in as a resource due to her intimate knowledge. What Conner, the lead Detective, doesn't realize is that Becca has a personal connection. Now van Gogh is after Becca and Conner must race to discover his identity before he adds another victim to his list.

As usual, this was a fast paced, high suspense drama that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book. I loved how the author was able to throw in the sweetness of romance and the calmness of faith during such an intense plot of murder and stalking. She really brings the characters to life and makes them lovable, entertaining, or creepy as the need arises. While this book is in a series, I think it could be read as a stand-alone. I would highly recommend reading the other books first though. They are well worth it. Overall, this is a wonderfully dramatic story that will leave you wanting more.

I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I only recently discovered Susan Sleeman's books and I sure do love them! She writes inspirational and also clean fiction. The woman knows her business, too.

This book opened with a sentence that reads, "She was going to die today." It draws you in and the fast paced action never lets up. Sort of like being on a roller coaster ride and not being able to get off. Great suspense. Each character is well developed, even secondary ones; their emotions make them seem like real people.

This novel is 'Criminal Minds' worthy. I don't think they could have done any better. Truth. There is a vicious, deranged and incredibly cruel unsub on the loose, back killing young girls again after a 16 year break. An FBI agent who once escaped from this killer is now trying to stop him from killing even more young women.

This was an incredibly powerful suspense novel, with some nice romance thrown in, but very clean. I enjoyed every moment, holding my breath many times throughout.

FBI agent Becca Lang has been haunted by a case for the past sixteen years. She is determined to track down a serial killer nicknamed “Van Gogh.” However, no one knows she has a personal connection to this case. Detective Connor Warren is also on the case. He has feelings for her, but Becca has made it clear that she wants to keep things professional. Will he be able to keep her safe, and will Becca truly be able to overcome the nightmare from her past?

Sleeman’s third installment of her “Agents Under Fire” series grabs the reader from the start. The vivid descriptions place the reader right in the middle of the action, which is often so detailed that it’s creepy! This fast-paced novel is obviously very well researched, and the reader gets insight into the victim’s and killer’s POV. While I would recommend reading the books in order, this could be read as a standalone. There is a hint of romance, but I was excited to find that the majority of the book is suspenseful, making for a thrilling ride!

From the first sentence this book is a page turner. Great suspense with a little romance. I have not read the previous books about these characters but the story was still easy to follow. A killer from the past is back abducting and killing teenage girls again and FBI Agt Becca Lange, who escaped him as a young girl, has been pulled from her current assignment to assist due to her past with this killer. Becca may also be his new target as well. I look forward to reading more of these character’s stories by this author and will read the precious books. Great read. I would like to thank the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.

Edge Of Your Seat

Susan Sherman has a knack for writing intense, edge of your seat, don't want to put it down books! Web of Secrets hits all of the marks for suspense, fear, hope, romance and faith. The reader is drawn into the story and can feel the fear the characters feel, the hope of things getting better and the faith that gets them through everything. The characters are so very real.

Another great installment

I really like how Susan delivers a story. She kept me intrigued with the story line and the raw emotions of the characters. The technical details were also very interesting. I was kept in suspense of how everything would play out and Susan delivered a great ending.

Another Romantic Suspense with shades of Crime Thriller thrown in; this is a stand-alone book but I think it is best read after the first two books in the series because Becca and Connor already have "history" from the previous books

Great book

This is a great book. A bit intense at times. I have a son who is an artist. Van Gough is his favorite artist. So I could connect with the character cutting off the ears of his victims.

My review today is on the novel, Web of Secrets. This book is the third book in the Agents Under Fire Series. I have really enjoyed this series and hate to see it end. This story is awesome, it's well written, timely, and full of suspense. You are going to love it. These stories have all been about serial killers and the brave men and women who set out to stop them. It is a hard subject but we are surrounded by violence and the enemy trying to destroy us. Susan handles this difficult topic in an amazing way. I appreciate her work.

Sixteen years ago Special Agent Rebecca Lange (Lauren Nichols)was kidnapped with her foster sister by a mad man. Becca escaped but is haunted by the monster that tried to cut off her ears and carved a five in her belly. She never told anyone about it other than the cop who rescued her, faked her death, put her in a new foster home, and changed her name. She had to live with the guilt of leaving her sister Molly to suffer at the hands of this killer. Now suddenly the killer has returned. She is an expert on the man and is called to help the police force find the Van Gogh killer when they find body number nine. Could it be Molly?

Detective Conner Warren is drawn to the beautiful Becca, the best friend of his partner's wife. It's easy for him to take her with him and to work with her to find this serial killer. She studied this killer at Quantico and she's an expert on the case. Conner doesn't want her exposed to all horrors of the case, knowing everywhere she looks she sees her foster sister.

Reginald Zwicky, Van Gogh had become obsessed with finding Lauren, the one who got away. He had recaptured Molly and tortured her trying to find out Lauren's new name. He finally decided he would watch at the funeral and find her. He was use to living in the shadows because of all the scars on his face. Since his mother had died six months ago he had been able to continue his work with purifying these young girls but Lauren he wanted as his own.

A journey to terror; a mad man out to purify all the foster girls, a detective trying to keep the woman he loves safe and find the killer, and an FBI Agent trying to forget her guilt and find this mad man before he can kill again. God has a plan for them, a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn your life around.

Web of Secrets, written by Susan Sleeman, is the third book in the Agents Under Fire series. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, I would strongly recommend reading the first two books in the series...Web of Deceit and Web of Shadows. This is an amazing series!

FBI Agent Becca Lange is completely dedicated to her job. So dedicated, in fact, that she leaves no spare time for any personal relationships. She is currently working on a credit card fraud case when the police reach out to her, asking if she would help them find a serial killer named Van Gogh. The names instantly sends a chill down her spine, as this is a man that has haunted her for years...especially since she narrowly escaped becoming one of his victims back in the nineties. Becca has privately been investigating him ever since, hoping to finally bring him to justice. She is definitely willing to help the police, and will be working with Connor Warren. Connor and Becca know each other, and it is no secret that Connor has feelings for Becca, but she wants to maintain a professional relationship only. Of course, that will be easier said than done, especially since Becca is actually attracted to Connor. They both put their personal feelings aside as they race against the clock to find Van Gogh before he kills once again.

I honestly can't stress enough just how amazing this series truly is! Susan Sleeman writes clean, romantic suspense/mystery, but don't let that stop you from reading her books. She has a writing style that will have you completely immersed in the story as you read it. I was hooked from the opening, until the very last page! Her characters are complex, but very realistic, which just adds to the realism of the story. The story is extremely well-written, and brilliantly executed. Susan Sleeman is an amazing storyteller, and has just the right amount of twists and turns in the story to keep you guessing. This is a fast-paced, page-turner that will pull you right in as soon as you begin reading it! I would strongly recommend this book, as well as the first two books in the series.

I was given a digital copy of this book from Belle Books/Bell Bridge Books, and NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Oh What a Web We Weave

Book three in Susan Sleeman’s Agents Under Fire Series will leave you wanting to sleep with the lights on. The first two books of the series had some creepy villains but the one in book three, Van Gogh, is the definition of twisted and evil. After this one, I’m left wondering what kind of bad guy Sleeman will dream up next.

Becca Lange has dedicated her life to finding criminals with the FBI cyber team and helping foster children on the side. But one decision, made when she was a teenage, continues to haunt her—and she has the scars to prove her nightmare was indeed real. She has spent years studying and researching the man who held her and her foster sister captive, the man she managed to escape.

When a body of a teenage girl is found with the signatures of Van Gogh, the police ask for Becca’s help with the investigation. Determined to find out once and for all what happened to her friend, her sister, Becca agrees even though it means working with Connor Warren—the man who she can’t deny being attracted to.

From the first page, readers get a peek into the psyche of the villain as he tortures his victim. Throughout the book, his addled mind and skewed perception of reality are laid out in a way that is both unnerving and frightening, especially when he sets his sights on our heroine. Becca’s struggle with her past prevents her from embracing any future happiness—something she believes she might be able to have with Connor.

As a reader, I ached for Becca and what she’d been through, understood why she kept it a secret, and rooted for her to get justice. And I fell a little in love with Connor Warren, a man who works extra hard to put a smile on Becca’s face whenever he can. A man who is determined to protect her, even if it’s from herself.

If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, put this one at the top of your list!

What an attention grabber! From the very beginning, this book caught my eyes and yanked them to the pages. I had a difficult time putting the book down to sleep and work. The mystery, the characters, the romance - it was all so well done.

Now, take into consideration that there are two books before this one, and I haven't read either of them. The author does an excellent job of making this book related without making it mandatory that you read the previous books. There was never a time when I became confused - all the backstories were explained sufficiently without so much detail that the reader gets lost. It does make you want to go read the other two books though!

Becca and Connor have always had a spark between them, which Connor has wanted to pursue, but Becca has a strict hands-off policy. She makes it clear that no relationship will be happening. But when a killer from her past comes back into her life, she must work with Connor to catch him. The killer abducted and murdered multiple teen girls years ago, and now it appears he's killing again. And his latest target may be Becca, who escaped him as a young girl, leaving her foster sister behind to an uncertain fate. Becca and Connor race to find the killer, and at the same time, they grow closer and realize their connection is undeniable.

While the romance was thrilling and frustrating at the same time, what really captured me was the crime-solving. You could really tell the author did her homework and knew what everyone's roles were in solving the case. From the cyber expert, Jae, to the cadaver dog, I felt immersed in catching the killer. Makes sense for me, since one of my favorite shows is Bones.

This is a must-read, especially for those who typically read either romance or mystery and want to get a taste of something new. It's a "clean" novel, but you still feel the heat between the couple. You actually get more PG-13 with the murders than you do with anything else. Very good read! I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I have been deeply invested in this series and couldn't wait for this book to come out! It's the 3rd book but can be read without reading the other two, no problem! Just be ready to put everything aside and not surface for hours because you wont be able to put it down once you start! Yes, it's THAT good! Susan has a way of making the creepiest villains I've ever read! She really gets into their heads and as you are reading, you know exactly what they are thinking, feeling and doing! It's probably one of the main thing that makes her books so fascinating to read. You know she does her research so well and it shows in her writing. I'm practically shivering as I read the creepy parts of the villains' thoughts and actions but I still can't put the book down! That says a lot because I detest horror movies and books! However, Susan doesn't make it too gross or bloody. She just makes it real enough for you to know what's happening but doesn't dwell on it long enough to make you sick! Ha ha!!! In this installment, we have Becca, who is the FBI agent who was taken by a serial killer when she was 15 but happened to escape. Of course it changed the direction of her whole life! Then, we have Connor, the homicide detective, who has worked with Becca before and is romantically interested in her but she shuts him down every time! When the serial killer comes out of hiding after 16 years, Connor gets the case and Becca gets assigned to help, even though no one knows she was once one of his "escaped victims". A roller coaster of happenings ensue and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The police procedure is very authentic and the story itself is so engrossing that I literally couldn't put it down until I finished it!
Of course, I highly recommend it! It's fantastic!!!!

First thoughts: My favorite part of a Susan Sleeman novel is the amount of detail she puts into the investigation side of the story. Web of Secrets was a entertaining read from start to finish. I liked having the perspective of the villain in the story. It made it more believable as he stalked his victim, you knew exactly how he was doing it. While a few parts of the story were a little on the creepy side, I'm glad the author didn't go into a huge amount of detail and get too graphic. I also enjoyed how the author brought in a new character, Taylor, and gave her a big role as a new agent. It was fun to see part of the story from the perspective of a 'newbie' learning the ropes.

Plot: FBI Agent Becca Lange is working on a case of cyber crime when a victim surfaces from serial killer, Van Gogh. Detective Conner Warren is on the case, but Becca wants to be a part of the investigation. This case hits too close to home for her and she wants him stopped. When it becomes clear that he's after the one victim that escaped, Connor will have to do everything he can to keep Becca out of the line of fire.

Characters: Becca has been through some difficult things in her life, but she's managed to become a successful FBI agent. She's serious and focused, completely unlike Conner, who keeps things fun and lighthearted. The two balance each other out and make sparks fly. I loved catching up with Nina and Kait, from the previous books, as well.

Recommendation: I'd highly recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. This doesn't fall into my usual reading of Inspirational and Christian fiction, but it's still free of any inappropriate content. While it's the third book in the series, Web of Secrets can stand alone.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

I just finished reading, Web of Secrets, by Susan Sleeman. It’s the third in her Agents Under Fire series. Wow - all the books in this series were amazing, so true to life I felt like I was watching a movie, not reading a book. This particular one, though, whether because I had invested in all the characters at this point and felt a part of the team or because of the subject matter, but I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up late, woke up early, skipped working all so I could find out what happened. And it wasn’t predictable! There were so many twists and turns and unexpected situations and multiple storylines and interwoven characters. It was awesome! Like I said, it was as though I was watching a movie or Criminal Minds on TV, not reading a book. The action was real, the characters were deep and the crimes spot on. At times a little too scary because these situations could truly happen in real life.

And, this was just icing on the cake, but the main thread, the takeaway in this book was exactly what God has been speaking into my life lately. Not allowing things in the past (fears, etc.) keep me from truly living in the present. We all have things we are afraid of, ashamed of, disappointed in ourselves for, but instead of letting them drag us down to where we’re barely surviving, we need to let go and truly live each day to its fullest, with purpose and intent and joy.

Wonderful series - I have already told many friends and family about this book and insisted that they go out and grab it. Anyone who enjoys suspenseful books, law enforcement and/or a little bit of romance, I would highly recommend this series.

Susan Sleeman is a master at exposing the minds of human beasts, while keeping her stories at once clean, terrifying, and romantic. Web of Secrets, third in the Agents Under Fire series, lives up to the expected hype of her previous novels. This tale focuses on fiercely independent, former foster child Rebecca, now on the FBI's Cyber Action Team.

Formerly held captive by a madman known as Van Gogh, Rebecca holds guilt over her escape.Believing her escape cost another's death, she gains a new identity but spends all her spare time hunting for the crazed killer who is also hunting her.

Identity theft crimes, insurance fraud, homeless foster kids who left the system only to find themselves easy prey, all help build this tense, taut story. Rebecca refuses to get close to the handsome police detective Connor, feeling love only engenders loss and distraction. She holds her secrets close to her vest.

Usually thrillers just leave me very afraid, but in awe of the author who can weave such a tangled narrative. This one actually contained two lessons for me, and maybe others:

1)There is no "I" in team. A team needs everyone being honest, sharing what they know, being trustworthy. No one should be a loner.

2)Get rid of the pearl earrings, lol!

Congrats, Susan Sleeman, truly a terrifically terrifying romantic thriller that I can trust to be clean, fun, and satisfying at the same time!!

I received an ARC of this book from the author, publisher, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all three books so far in this series and have enjoyed them. Web of Secrets fits right in. They are about 3 FBI Agents who all work in computer crimes. They are strong female characters. Web of Secrets is FBI Agent Becca Lange story.

Becca has kept some big secrets she has kept from everyone. We do know that she has been a foster kid and her foster sister Molly disappeared decades ago. She fears she was a victim of Van Gogh a serial killer who cut off the ears and murdered foster kids teenage girls.

Becca was almost a victim. She is a expert on him and kept up on him. He is now started killing again.

Police detective Connor Warren and Becca have been fighting a attraction to each other but both have been fighting it for different reasons. Connor has some information on Becca's current computer cards theft and wants to work with her. When Connor then gets the Van Gogh case and wants to get Becca's information on the case.

In this book their is good mix of cases and personal drama. I like Becca and Connor and watched them grow closer. I like how they grow as characters but remains a clean read. The story works for me on all levels.
I wonder if Taylor a new member of there FBI team will have a book with her as a main character. I would want to read it.

You can read any one of the three books alone, but I would read them in order to see how the different relationships start,

I was given this ebook to read for free by NetGalley and Bell Bridge Books. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Web of Secrets.

About the book:

Years ago Becca and her best friend Molly were held captive by a serial killer. Becca was able to escape, but has always felt guilty not knowing what happened to Molly. The killer was never found even after all of the information Becca was able to give the authorities. Having changed her identity, now an FBI agent, Becca has devoted her life to finding the serial killer known as Van Gogh. Having not killed in 16 years it seems that Van Gogh is back and Becca is determined that this time he will not get away.

My Thoughts:

WOW, WOW, WOW! From the first sentence of Web of Secrets I was hooked! And the suspense just kept on building! At one point the suspense was so intense that I had to close my Kindle, but then immediately had to pick it back up to find out what happened. In Web of Secrets the reader gets a peek into the killer's mind and motives. There are some definite dark and brutal passages in the book. I thought Connor was the perfect romantic interest for Becca's character. He was tender and yet firm with Becca and knew when to push and when to back off. Both were holding back secrets that were keeping them from exploring their feelings for each other which caused some frustrating moments while reading, but that only added to the tension of the read. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre to read and Susan Sleeman never disappoints!

Another well-crafted suspense novel!

Though this is the third book in the series it is a stand-alone story. The only connection is that some of the main characters from the earlier books are secondary ones in this one.

Susan Sleeman is a master at creating her characters. Becca Lange and Connor Warren are incredibly well developed. It was easy to understand what made them tick as their pasts were slowly, but completely, spelled out. She did a marvelous job of delving into the villain’s psyche without including graphic violence.

The progression of the investigation was fantastic. It started very slowly with a few different cases being mentioned and both Becca and Connor trying to figure out what was the most important one to work on. Then as more information was discovered their priorities had to be adjusted. They were both trying to balance all of this even while trying to figure out their attraction to each other. It’s always nice to throw a little romance in with the suspense.

With Becca being the third agent on the cyber-crime team it looks like this series is done. I’d really like to see it continue though since they have all been wonderful books. Since a rookie agent was introduced in this book though I have hopes that the series will go on.

I received a free eBook copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is book three in the Agents Under Fire series, even though they are all stand alone books it is a great series all the way through and you get a little history about the characters throughout the series.
Susan Sleeman does a great job at getting your interest from the beginning and keeping it all the way through her suspense, mystery, FBI type books. Her characters face very real problems and the task force is very realistic. This novel may contain material not for every age group, however Sleeman does a great job at describing a gruesome scene and letting you know what happens with out getting to graphic.
FBI agent Becca Lange has a mind of her own, and likes doing things her own way. When she must work with Connor again will the sparks continue to fly or will she be able to stay aloof and professional. She has secrets of her own and when they come back to haunt her will she be able to solve this crime or is it more than she can handle.
PPD detective Connor Warren knows he has feelings for Becca, but she has made it clear they are to remain professional. He is a free spirit where she is organized and distant. Can her get past her defenses before her past drags her down.
If you enjoy reading good, clean, FBI, mystery, suspense books with a dash of romance you will love this novel.
I was given a copy of this novel from the author for my honest opinion.

It took me ages to get into this.
Once I was I did find the story intriguing.

The premise of this storyline as a whole had a lot of promise. FBI Agent who was kidnapped and nearly killed by a serial killer when she was a teenager. The killer finds her again and its like a cat and mouse game.
There is also a love interest as there usually is in these type of storylines/books.
For me though, the storyline didn't really feel like it panned out. It felt rushed and for me I hadn't quite connected with the characters to really feel the omg horror of it, or what it was supposed to be.

I also didn't feel the apparent "chemistry" that was between Becca and Connor. In my head the characters made sense but on paper it just didn't feel right to me. All of the other characters could supposedly feel the sexual chemistry between the two of them but I didn't feel even a whimper of it.

I think for me, if the story had been padded out a little more, and the characters had a bit more depth to them this could have been a really good book.
It just fell a little flat for me.
I read a lot of books in this genre so maybe I have high expectations due to authors such as Brenda Novak and Allison Brennan (to name a couple) but I just wanted a bit more from this and it just didn't quite deliver.

I didn't mean to read this series out of order, it just happened that way. WEB OF SECRETS is the third book in this series, but I'm happy to say it stands alone. I haven't read any of the first two books. Yet.

Becca is tough. She has to be, because she holds a boatload of secrets inside. No one knows the horrific stuff that has happened to her--that will happen to her if the monster finds her before she finds him. I liked Becca and I seriously hurt for her.

Connor is definitely attracted to Becca but she is so not his type. Yes, he's a homicide detective, but he knows how to have fun and shake off the stress. A big flirt, he can turn it on and off at will. I liked him, despite his he-man tactics he employed without warning.

I would love to read a story about Taylor and Jack but that might be out there and I just haven't read it yet. I'm working through my backlog of books in between more current ones.

This book is mainstream as in there is no faith message, but it is clean and there aren't any swear words. Fans of Susan Sleeman won't be disappointed. A bit more gruesome and a lot creepier than her Love Inspired Suspense. But very good. I couldn't put it down. Don't miss WEB OF SECRETS.

I was given a copy for free off netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This is the third installment in the Agents Under Fire series. While this is the book three, each of the three books can be read together as a series or they are fine as stand alone books also. We get to catch up with Kait and Nina from the first two books in this series and find out what they have been up to.

Becca's story is just as exciting and dangerous as her friends were. Maybe even a bit more dangerous. From the very beginning of the book, Susan held me captive with fast paced action, danger around ever turn, and a reluctant friendship which turned into a beautiful romance. We also learn the importance of not shutting others out of our lives like Becca did. She was used to taking care of herself and depending solely on her own skills. Becca finally realized that her friends were just waiting to help her fight the demons of her past and all she had to do was ask. So many times we try to handle things on own, but we must remember that we have many people who would be glad to help us, especially God, if we would just ask.

I received a complimentary e-book copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

Becca Lange has a hard time letting people into her life. She had been abducted with her Foster sister as a teen by a serial killer but had gotten away. She did not know if her foster sister had also escaped. Becca had been given a new identity and became an FBI Agent. Her abductor had never been caught and she continued to keep up the investigation on her own. He is back! Things begin to spiral and she has no choice but to share her deepest secrets and let her closest friends in!

This book will keep you on edge and you won't be able to put it down. Thank you for another great book Susan Sleeman!
