Louis “Mac” McMurphy is an enigma—as a newspaper editor and a family man, he’s stone-cold quirky.
In this second installment of the Spruce Run Mystery series, McMurphy has discovered something rotten in his part of New Jersey: a perplexing mystery that has people locking their doors at night.
When a middle school student is found unconscious and unresponsive on the sidewalk out front of his newspaper office, McMurphy soon discovers a rash of similar incidents across Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and becomes determined to discover an explanation for the outbreak.
What he stumbles upon is nothing less than shocking: a dangerous, illegal, cross-county enterprise operated by an individual only known as “Catfish.”
With his goofy sense of humor, one-liners, and a propensity for trouble, McMurphy is on the job once again. And with the help of his best friend, a detective with the county sheriff’s department, McMurphy puts his life on the line to stop the Catfish and to protect his young family.
