Mal isn’t the only human in the Gillham Pack, but he is the only unmated one. He knows most members view him as an outsider for that, but he has his friends, and it’s enough for him. That’s what he tries to convince himself of anyway.

Will still isn’t over Heath, even though his ex-boyfriend mated with Jayden nine months ago. It’s not only the fact that Heath mated that hurts him. Heath lost his memory, and he doesn’t remember Will and the years they had together. Will knows it’s not Heath’s fault, but he still keeps his distance, even if that means staying away from the only family he has.

Will and Mal crash into each other and Will immediately realizes what Mal is to him. The distance between their homes put a strain on their budding relationship, as does the reappearance of Mal’s abusive ex-boyfriend, and the ever-present danger of the new council trying to get rid of the pack. Will they be able to find solutions to their problems or will one of them finally tear them apart?

Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters.
She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back.
She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.

An ok read.
This book was actually better than the few previous books. I can't really put my finger to what made it better, but it had me more engaged despite being riddled with misspellings/ typos and small grammatical errors.

Mal and Will. Cute story... the main problems were an Ass**** ex and a previous love.

Mal is the friend of Arlen who now lives with Simon and is a human with a stalker ex. He’s lonely and unsure if he belongs in the pack when he has no mate and isn’t paranormal himself.

Will was Heath’s boyfriend before Heath lost his memory (Jayden – Whitedell Pride Series Book 16). Will is a bear shifter too and lost his family when he came out as gay. After that he bonded with Heath and his family – so now he feels all alone – again – and at loose ends.

When Will delivers some things to Dominic for Heath he runs into Mal and the two immediately know they’re mates. Both of them, however, are reluctant to just jump into a relationship after having been so badly burned in the past. They both WANT to be mates, but are very interested in going slowly.

**

Slow is the key word here. Glacial is more like it. Our mated couple doesn’t really even couple til after the 70% mark and that is very lack luster. Most of this is the two dithering about their past and hedging their bets.

I had been really looking forward to Mal’s story because he was so lonely and I thought it’d be so awesome when he is finally paired up – but instead of fireworks all I got was a little fizzle.

While I still love this series – I didn’t care for this much at all. I wanted to shake Mal for ignoring the help of his friends and I thought that for a couple who understand what it means to be mated – they were being ridiculous about their relationship.

Overall this was just – meh – for me. I read it easily enough but wasn’t very impressed.

3.5 stars for me! I really enjoy this series and how it weaves in so well with her first series, the Whitedell Pride. I love all the characters (some are easier to remember than others since there are SO MANY now between the 2 series haha, and some definitely steal the spotlight!) and I enjoy the new problems that arise as both series' progress.

I will say that I did kinda find the romance between Mal and Will to be a little lackluster...it was just a slow, slow burn, and then when they were finally together, I think their first time together was even off-page, we just got to read about the mating bite itself happening later on. However, I enjoyed that it was different with how the human wanted to jump into the mating and the shifter wanted to take things slow! I just wish that, even with a slow burn, there had still been a bit more heat maybe? (I feel like crap saying this, it just didn't work personally for me. I totally love this series, it's an auto-buy for me!)

I'm looking forward to Simon's story!

Same plot over and over with guys who look exactly the same. Why do I crave this crap?

He couldn't drive 4 hours every night after work for two weeks because he'd have to drive four hours back. Plus the time he spends with Mal (they don't sleep together so it has to be awake time) he wouldn't get any sleep. You can do that for a short time maybe but it would be really dangerous driving in the mountains like that.

I just watched some videos of baby bats and they are soooo cute. The pallid bat is a little different being blond/yellow, but still very cute. Kudos to the author for introducing a species most people hate and/or are scared of.

The major danger was off page! ARGH!

Too sweet and calm. Not dangerous or angsty enough and not at all original even when only compared to the rest of the series.
