Abbey

Some scary looking aliens have just boarded Fortuna Tau, our little asteroid mining station. Kordolians, by the looks of things. What the hell do they want with this floating rust bucket? What are they even doing here?
In the grand scheme of things, Earth is a total backwater, and the Solar System is the galactic equivalent of Hicksville. That's why aliens rarely bother to come to this corner of the universe. And Kordolians are usually too busy conquering the important parts of the nine galaxies to bother with us.
But it looks as if their battle cruiser is broken. Probably shot up in a firefight. They're going to use every means necessary to fix it, even if it means putting Fortuna Tau on lockdown. I just hope they don't decide to enslave us and ship us off to some remote alien planet.
Come to think of it, I've never seen a Kordolian up close before. They're huge, with strange silver skin and pointed ears. They have freaky nano-armor. And they're packing a serious arsenal. Our human technology has no chance against their weapons.
When I encounter their General, I find him insufferable. Arrogant. Domineering. He won't tell me anything.
I guess that's what happens when your race is kicking ass across the nine galaxies. You get pigheaded.
So why do I keep running into him? Why is he looking at me funny? And what's with this weird feeling I get when he's around?
I really hope these guys fix their ship and go away soon, because I get the feeling they could be major trouble.

Tarak

Sucked into a wormhole during a fierce skirmish with an enemy ship. Spat out near a human mining station in a remote corner of the nine galaxies. Stuck with weak humans who operate with inferior metals and technology.
This mission couldn't get any worse.
We need to fix our craft before the wormhole collapses.
We need to hunt the cursed Xargek monsters that have infiltrated this human rust-bucket.
And these infernal headaches of mine are getting worse.
I don't really care about these humans. Their existence makes no sense to me. All I care about is killing Xargek and getting back to my home planet, Kythia.
This situation is tiresome. The light of the star humans call the Sun burns my eyes. I crave Kythia's darkness.
So why has this crazy human female captured my attention? She's messy, awkward and she babbles nonsense half the time.
These humans are crazy. I don't understand them at all. Especially this female. Why do I keep coming back to her?
I need to leave this place before I go insane

Warning: This book contains swearing, violence and steamy sex scenes. It's recommended for readers aged 18 and over.

Dark Planet Warriors was surprisingly good. I don’t read many sci-fi romances, especially not with alien heroes, so I don’t think I can say much aside from the fact that this was an enjoyable read. I really liked the worldbuilding and the different species of aliens. I also really appreciated that the author was able to build a strong foundation for this series without making this book seem like it was solely there to set up the rest of the series.

If I had to nitpick, I would say there were definitely areas in the story that needed more fleshing out and I think the characters could’ve had a bit more depth but for the most part, I really enjoyed how easy this book was to get through. I highly recommend the audiobook as well, the male narrator took some time to get used to but other than that, they were pretty much perfect in their roles.

This is my review for the three parts

"Dark Planet Warriors: Invasion" by Anna Carven was a delight to re-read.
I just had a compulsion to read this again, something light, easy and fun and it certainly ticked all my boxes.
In fact, I think I enjoyed it more this time around.
So a brief description of this, We have Abbey a scientist working on space station "Fortuna Tau"
when they are boarded by Kordolians large, silver-skinned, pointy-eared hotty warriors.
After a serious incident leaves Abbey in a bad way There Big Bad General Tarek whisks Abbey aboard his ship to transport back to Kythia for treatment.
The grumpy General soon becomes captivated by the little human and as his own people scheme to take her away from him. Tarek vows to protect his little human mate from all that would wish her harm.
this is a lovely tale, the general beneath his gruff exterior has a heart of gold for Abbey, and I loved how Abbey was not one of these seriously stupid girls always doing the reverse of what she was told.
She was the opposite of angsty and I found this very refreshing, made such a nice change.
So if you're looking for some light reading that's guaranteed to make you smile and also get you a bit hot under the collar.
give this a go, it's definitely worth a read.

“There may be hope for the universe yet.”

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌎
Character development: 😳☺️🤫😍

The heroine: Abbey - she works as a scientist in the vegetation dome on an asteroid mining station called Fortuna Tau. She grows most of the food eaten on the station. She hates it, but in the 24th century, jobs are scarce on earth and in order to get one, people have to work off world for years before they are able to work on earth.

The Hero: Tarak - a Kordolian General who comes to the mining station after his ship is damaged in a firefight with the Xargek. The Kordolian are feared throughout the universe as they are known to travel the nine galaxies enforcing their rule. Though they have ignored Earth till now.

The Story: While on Fortuna Tau for repairs to his ship Tarak is suffering from a severe headache and finds from his medical officer that he needs to mate. Though inter species mating is not allowed. His headache seems to abate when he is talking to Abbey and when she is injured when fleeing one of the Xargek which infiltrated the station, he decides to take her with him.

Abbey finds herself the only human in an alien station above a planet where humans are seen as little more than slaves and when the leaders of the dying populace find that humans have similar DNA, they see her as a perfect guinea pig. However, the Tarak is the leader of the Kordolian forces and is not afraid to go after what he wants.

The book was told in dual POV and by two narrators, Todd McClaren and Jillian Macie. Both narrators did a great job and I enjoyed listening to this one. It was quite steamy and had a good story, though the romance could have been a bit better. I wanted Abbey and Tarak to get to know each other better.

I enjoyed this book. The author did well with the world building. I liked both characters and all the secondary characters. There was a plot, insane villain, assassins, aliens, and a backstory. Will read the rest in the series.

---- Tarak ------------ Just immagine a hunk that can get naked in a blink of an eye... *cough, cough*

OK, I liked but not loved this serial. I liked Tarak (is it not obvious?), but I didn't liked Abby.

Abby was like all those annoying heroines that, after having been abducted try the most crazy things, like here: Abby is told not to go around, but to wait in the cabin, because the Kordolians are the most dangerous and arrogant race who considers all the others like their slaves, but as soon a Tarek leaves she somehow (it is explained how later on) opens the door and wander around looking for the a ship to steal!!!! ... and she admits herself that she doesn't know how to fly one!!!

Are you sure you want to know what a super-dark, arrogant, every-being-alive-will-do-what-I-want-or-I'll-obliterate-your-whole-race, will do to her?

Well.....

So, while he protects her, rescues her from evel scientists who want to chop her up, covers her with (tight) thermal wear because humans are so fragile, and as a result he get berated for several reasons: he walks around naked (are you crazy, or what???), he is treating her like slave (when they must hide her...), etc...

At the end of the book...

Thank your Goddess that she left you with some teeth in your head...

I know that'll think that I've lost my mide giving 3 stars after all this rant...
But the writing was good and some banter was actually funny and the hotness was there, so...

Ehhh not bad but not great.

Jillian Macie, the female narrator, is great as always (she does Ruby Dixon’s Risdaverse audios!) but the male narrator was hard to listen to, so that put down my enjoyment a lot. The characters and story also lacked some depth imo.

Not helped at all by the generic, bare-chested hunk on the cover or the casualness of the H/h speech patterns, at first this book gives the impression of one of those quickly churned-out sci-fi erotica novellas, but bolstered by a high rating by a friend, I read on....and I am glad that I did. While the eventual spicy bits are fun (and hot), overt casualness evolves into solid plot, which evolves into more complex intrigue and danger, which evolves into surprisingly detailed world-building. It is like we are on this extra-terrestrial journey with Abbey, learning as we go, and things just keep getting more complicated. Even the tone of the novel goes from casual workday chat/bravado to a suspenseful atmosphere with deeper, caring conversations. The complications are enhanced by cultural ignorance, a reticent hero, and political unrest that lurks not so far below the surface. Add in neat technologies, interesting aliens, nightmarish Kordolian ambitions, and it is a story that doesn't just pull you in, it sucks you in.

A book that makes me race through the pages, offers a fresh perspective on alien cultures and inventions and whose hero is well crafted with few words but utter, amazingly attractive confidence (swoon) is one that gets a high rating from me. Abbey is a great character, too, with plenty of bravery to go with that cheeky personality. The book was marred by a few typos and a few obvious plot holes (how does a general in command of thousands disappear for extended periods yet rarely communicates with his subordinates or seem burdened by duty, much less mobilize troops?). Given the book is told from dual perspectives, the absence of Tarak's role as the man in charge of a fleet is noticeably short-changed. 4.5 rounded to 5 stars.

I believe those who enjoy SFR books by Ruby Lionsdrake, Christine Pope, Catherine Spangler or Nina Croft will enjoy Anna Carven's spin on new worlds. Book two looks to be just as exciting.

2nd Read and just as Fun!!

General Tarak ...aka..Big Bad

description

He sounds almost apologetic. I’m floored. Is such a thing even possible? Big Bad seems like the kind of guy who wouldn’t apologize even if he accidentally ran over your pet dog twice.

Damn!! This book was everything I look for in a sci-fi romance. Well developed characters, a touch of violence, a heroine I can love, and the Biggest Bad Ass of an Alien!!! Wow...just Wow!!

I really liked this one. The author does a great job of creating this world in the future of both humans and aliens. I loved the gruff hero who falls hard for the heroine, as I have said many times before I love a jerky hero who does a 180 turn for the heroine. The heroine had me laughing with some of her inner monologue and comments. I think the heroine and hero are perfect for each other. This book has a great hea, but the story and the future world isn't finished and their future is about to have some huge changes. I'm really interested in seeing how this turmoil is resolved, the author does a great job of creating characters you easily hate, and on the other side of that characters you easily love.

Fun alien story. Pretty easy to read. I still have trouble picturing the aliens but I know they have all the right "parts"!

It was missing a bunch of dialogue - too many inner thoughts. The hero was just a bit too standoffish (emotionally) for me for too long. And the heroine was not enamoured by him with her constant thoughts of escape, until the end. She lusted after him yes - but she always planned to leave. I wanted a more intense connection earlier in the book. We got it by the end but I was a little bored by then.

I will definitely read the next one.

This was surprisingly good🥰. I actually enjoyed it very much.
It is a different more original idea and I found this thing refreshing. We don't have here the insta-love we are used to in this genre, contrarily is quite a slow built to that point.
There is indeed kinda insta lust but not much happens in that direction until a connection is formed between Abbey and Tarak.
Tarak is all alpha possessive growling male, but underneath his hard appearance he is a softy for his mate. Abbey is a good heroine , brave and sassy , but sometimes I got a bit irritated with her stubborn attitude.
The banter between them was fun and I kinda felt bad for Tarak when he thinks "I’ve come to the conclusion that all Human females are crazy" , I mean , dude, you have nooo ideaa !!🤪🤣🤣🤣

The steamy scenes were exactly what they should be : hot hot hot ( that one time in the infinity pool made me all warm inside, very original and good imagination from the author )
There is a lot going on here, a good plot that moves the series forward and the world building was in place too.
I am definitely curios about the rest of the team!!!🙏

A Note on Reading Order (from the author):
If you’re planning on reading the books in the series, you might like to know that the books aren’t numbered in chronological order.
Instead, they’re numbered based on the order in which they were written and published (because for some reason, my brain doesn’t always work in a linear fashion).
If you wish to read the series chronologically, I’d suggest the following order:

Book 1.0: Dark Planet Warriors (originally a serial made up of Invasion, Taken, Escape)
Book 4.0: Out of Darkness
Book 5.0: Forged in Shadow
Book 7.0: Electric Heart
Book 2.0: Dark Planet Falling
Book 3.0: Into the Light
Book 4.5: Darkside Blues
Book 6.0: Infinity's Embrace
Book 8.0: Brilliant Starlight
Book 8.1: Earth Files: Book 1
Book 8.5: Sanctuary

This is my second attempt to read this. This first time I tried, I dnf due to the heroine's dialog which I felt was too YA for me. On my second attempt, I was able to overlook the dialogue and it did not bother me so much. Sadly, I found myself skimming at the 50% point because I did not care for the heroine's character.

Aside from the dialogue, I also didn't care for the heroine It was a put off for me. Just a personal thing.

I wanted more romance. It seemed to be based on lust, which is not my cup of tea.

The writing itself was a little repetitive and could have used more conflict IMHO.

The pace was steady, but I felt the antagonists could have made more of an appearance in the story.

It was strange to me that:

I wanted to like this book, but It is just not for me.

Ugh...romance ?

I need more than:

👁👄👁 You're my property

👁👄👁 Your pussy makes my headaches go away

👁👄👁 You're an inferior species but you can carry my alien babies

👁👄👁 You smell nice tho so i'll make an exception cuz u kno i need to mate and that's some top quality pussy.

For fucks sake, i've read books with less than 150 pages where the chemestry was 🔥🔥 This is divided in three books and they DON'T do anything before the fucking begins. He just saves her over and over again.😑🤡😴

At least the sex was okay(ish). If I read another "romance" where he just shoves it in there with barely any foreplay imma lose my fucking mind. Damn. The problem was that it was too soon. I'm all for instant gratification but it gets a little repetitive.

I love my alien reads and I’m glad to found a new author.

Dark Planet Warriors (the complete book) is a standalone. It was originally released as a 3 part serial.

In this world the humans can work on different planets and they are aware of the other species. Abbey is working with planets on a different planet. She doesn’t want to but she needs to save up money. Her planet is gets uninvited visitors.

Tarak is an alien. He’s tough and he’s kind of like the captain of his troops. His ship needs repair work and so he lands on Abbey’s planet.

What I liked about this book is that there is some alien politics. Yes, Tarak and Abbey have this connection and attraction towards each other, but it’s a slow burn and you read a huge chunk of the book before anything happens.

There’s a lot of world building and I like that too.

Overall, this isn’t a typical smutty romance novel, but there’s plenty of tension, chemistry and romance to keep you interested. I will admit there are some slow parts, but I kind of breezed through those parts.

I revisiting this one in Audio format (a recent release). The readers are great (for both MC's POVs).
"Only Tarak could make the act of teaching a person how to stab someone, seem romantic"
Still loved it!!!

Tarak and Abbey. I wasn't expecting much when I started this one, but I ended up loving it. It had more science in it than the usual 'Mars needs Women' books do. I don't even consider most of them SciFi, but this one is. Abbey is a bio-scientist on a space station run by Earth. Tarak is the General of the most feared army in the Galaxy. His people, the Kordolians, are the rulers of the Galaxy while Earthlings are so far out on the edge, that they are rarely thought of or visited. That is, until a random worm hole brings Taraks flagship to the space station for repairs. Their first meeting is barely anything, but something about Abby draws Tarak. He finds himself in a situation where he must bring her to his world to save her but he is unsure why he cares. This was a slow build romance where the characters have substantial cultural differences as well as social class and physical differences. Abbey is a strong person and not flighty in the least. Tarak is so reserved he is kinda scary and forbidding. There is a lot about him that a woman less observant than Abbey might not come to know.
I loved the author's attention to detail and creative imagination. It's a fast paced book with little padding, which I like most of the time. But I enjoyed her world building so much, that I hoped for a longer book. I was kind of hoping that the next book would be about his crew, left behind on the station to deal with the enemy vermin. But it seems to be about the exiled Kordolian prince. I'll still happily read it!

Utterly silly, with just enough plot and character development, I was surprised by how sweet and adorable this story was. Was it literature? Nope. Did it challenge me on any level? Not at all. Was it just what I was looking for after a particularly sad and slow read? Absolutely.

I liked that the H was a virgin. I enjoyed the dual povs. I could have done without the sex scenes (which I skipped) and the foul language, but that's just my preference.

Thanks, Susani, for putting this book on my radar. :)

This is an entertaining sci-fi adventure that doesn't focus solely on the sex at the expense of the plot. Yes, it is sexy. Yes, the alien hero is the best lover the human female has ever been with (He is also a virgin who is a very fast learner). However, this is much more than PWP.

The adventure starts with a bang, and puts the two MCs through some rough skirmishes before they get to fully enjoy their burgeoning relationship. Also, since this book contains the first three Dark Planet Warriors books, “Invasion,” “Taken” and “Escape,” (which were originally released separately) it feels like a complete story with a strong bond established between the MCs. The book sets-up the other books in the series, but this could be read as a standalone. I enjoyed it, and look forward to more from this author.

Wanted to like it but.....

I wanted to like this but Abbey was too stubborn and clueless and argumentative for her own good and quickly turned into a TSTL character ..... While the characters are attracted to each other at 1st sight only Tarek up til around 40% where I stopped really seemed interested.... Abbey seemed to be the type act stupid/foolishly and ask questions later type, for instance Tarek has taken her to his home world or close to it because Abbey fell almost to her death fleeing a dangerous creature that's described kinda like a ginormous space cockroach ,Tarek feels responsible because his ship accidentally brought it to the space station and he sees that she'll either die or be a permanent cripple soo, he takes her to his home world because it's the only place she can get the help she needs.... Does she understand ? Is she grateful? No to both... Why she's soo clueless and willingly soo ,other than she's written that way I know not... Abbey isn't perceptive in the slightest,on the journey there she's in this gel floating to keep pressure off her broken bones between it and the tubes giving her nourishment it's all that keeps her alive, still she's either just angry she's cold or even more angry when Tarek gets into the gel keeping alive to share body heat ,sure she'll drool over his naked body but how dare he do that ... Then later when she wakes clothed but alone completely whole, well, healthy and fully functioning is she happy ? Grateful? Contemplative on her situation ? Aaaaaaaaaaa, that would be a HUGE NO! To all 3.... She instead w/out a thought 1st starts to panic and jump, kick and thrash about like a angry bull just put in a chute at a Rodeo, just like a bull w/out a care as to what she'll do once out just a blind panic to be free but unlike the bull she could stop and think but refuses to sadly... Tarek finds her in this state and wants her to rest, worried I'm sure,he's risking much to do right by her but still No Thank You's or gratitude, just anger for being taken from her space station ( dear lord she's stupid) doesn't try to understand and when she's given food complains ( of course) and asks why don't the have "Nachos" ( really ? I love them but why would an alien race have them?") or fries w/chicken salt ? And is pissed again when he has to leave and tells her to stay there,How dare he!! Yeah, how dare he try to keep you safe from his peers who think nothing of your kind and that your basically no better than peasant stock or serf were to the wealthy for 1000's of years on earth... Or course despite who clueless she is Abbey decides to keep up her bullish/brainless behavior til she finds a way to escape his quarters ,because how dare he confine her... No truer TSTL behavior have I seen, the stupid beyotch honestly didn't have the sense didn't have to sense to come out the rain or in her stay in the safe place when surrounded by alien strangers, sure maybe Tarek could been less dictatorial and maybe explained more but you could see it just wasn't that kinda story,it was the kinda where the h goes around hard headed being TSTL and the H having constantly save her from herself...
NO THANK YOU!!! I want a mature h who while no matter how imperfect she may be she has good sense, gratitude and respect for her self and others... This was not our h here...
I liked Tarek because once he made contact w/Abbey he acted more and more like a protect alpha male draw to his fated mate,he's protective of her and is gonna do right by her regardless of what anyone else thinks or wants, I LOVE that!!
While Abbey was a brainless heifer , I quit at around 40 or soo percent because she was just to painful and frustrating to read...
I try to put myself in the h's situation often, and while I'm not completely sure how I'd act in her place I'd like to think a) I'd be grateful to be alive and fully functioning and at least a little trusting because after all Tarek had done for me he's earned it and no matter how scared I might be I'd try to stop and throughly think my actions through and run blindly just because I could..
And p.s. I'd have enough sense to know they don't have fries and or Nachos!!!
Save us from stupid h's...

Fear. It's one of the most useful tools in a war. The first thing we were taught in the military academy was how to instill and manipulate fear. Create fear. Dominate. Rule. It's what we Kordolians do.

A hardened warrior intent on his solitude meets a fearless scientist who upends his world.. 5 stars!!

I've been in this weird sort of reading funk lately, and it took this alien romance of the 24th Century to bring me out of it! Abbey is working on an outerspace station, hoping to gain the work experience needed to get a coveted job back on Earth. Tarak is a Kordolian; one of the most feared alien races because of their reputation as ruthless warriors, and as General he is dominant, self-assured, and completely enthralled by Abbey's lack of fear and tenacity as an inferior species. After his unexpected presence causes Abbey to become severely injured, his sense of responsibility over her recovery slowly morphs into an obsession and he finds himself unable to let her go.
"You are not a female whose sole purpose is to bear offspring. You are my mate, and I need you by my side. I need you. I am not going to let you fall into the hands of those who would tear you apart and use you; those who would destroy you. Do you understand, Abbey of Earth? You are mine, and no one, Kordolian or otherwise, is going to take you away from me. I will do everything in my power to protect you, even if I have to wage war against my own people."

I know that's a long quote, but I love it so much. I love how Tarak and Abbey's relationship grew and transformed throughout their journey, eventually becoming so much more than physical lust and curiosity. They both are willing to make sacrifices in order to protect the other, something that Tarak is not used to but ultimately comes to love about Abbey. And I loved that Abbey was NOT a timid or afraid heroine; she was smart, brave, and fearless in the face of so many aliens who are faster and stronger than she is. Her absolute trust and confidence in Tarak was also refreshing, and I absolutely loved following along their nonstop and steamy journey. I highly recommend this book and will definitely be continuing this series! ♡

[Side note: according to the author the next story chronologically is actually BOOK 4: OUT OF DARKNESS]

Cute sci-fi, with potential for more. It's giving me Planet Barbarians vibe, but a wee bit shallower in characterization, which is .....yeah.

I mean, I'm intrigued with the world this creates, but it is CLEARLY a serial turned into a single novel. The rhythm of the writing leans towards repetition of things we were told the previous chapter, while not delving into the characters enough.

I actually really liked the beginning of the story, and had it taken the time to transition the romance into more than lust, then this would be a very different review. It literally just goes "ok we love each other now!" and left me wondering what the hell happened. The transition from "I need to get away from this guy" to "I'm totally cool living with the Elven General dude and his magic penis ribbed for my pleasure" was just off.

But having said all that....this is my form of crack, because while I know it's got hella flaws, I'm going to read the next one. *shrugs* Don't judge me. I like cracky sci-fi reads, and the world is what intrigues me here more than the underdeveloped romance.

Loved it!! Sexy alien dark-elf alpha? Check! Smart sassy woman who knows who knows how to tame the beast? Check!

This is one of my favorite series in this genre, because it is so well balanced. Anna Carven doesn't let her heroines do stupid things just to create drama. I really like that the aliens, though humanoid, were still very 'other'. Silver skin, elfin features (pointed ears ad all), fangs and horns! Oh My!

Very fun little read!

3.5 gooey, sentimental stars.
What's not to love about this alien romance that started with Dark Planet Warriors. Tarak is an all-alpha hottie, yet all mush inside, and Abbey is a sensible, intelligent earth girl. This story is about Abbey having their baby and their wedding - sigh.
A lot of descriptive sex in this one (man, they go at it like bunnies), with a nasty intergalactic corporation that wants the baby's DNA and- wait for it- kangaroos. Because it is set mostly in the desert in Australia. YAY!
Now, if we could just eliminate the f-word, I would be really happy :)

I'm doing a happy dance right now since I've found a wonderful new sci-fi series to gorge on.

Our heroine Abbey is very feisty and she's just the one to keep Tarak in line. Very hot with a touch of sweet.

Thank God this is over...

I was getting bored halfway through this book. I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. It just wasn't for me.
