Lily loves all things dark and mysterious, so when she discovers a magic mirror in a locked room it's like a dream come true. Or is it ... Lily now has a new friend who desperately needs her help. But she's also got an older brother who really needs to get a life. Lily will require all eleven fingers, plus a hefty slice Grandad's chocolate Ganache cake, to fix a long-forgotten secret that's very close to home.
I love Lily! She's feisty yet vulnerable and makes me smile. And the story is riveting, I had to keep reading until it all came together!!! Great book - enjoyed every minute.
This review was written by 11 year old me, on a tiny sheet of paper that the teacher gave to me. The questions are the ones that were listed on said piece of paper. This review contains spoilers!
Book Title: Lily in the Mirror Who are your main character/s? Lily, OL(other Lily)/Lily What happened in the book? Beginning- Lily is at her granddad's house. She finds a mirror. There is a girl named Lily in it. Lily finds out that OL- other Lily, is her grandma's twin. Middle- Lily becomes best friends with OL, but Lily's grandma is dying and Lily needs to find away to reunite the twins. End- Lily reunites OL with Grandma. Grandma dies but OL goes with her. If I could change one event in this story it would be: I would change when Linden paints Fern's cat red. I rate this book: 4 stars
I read this book to see if it would be suitable for my niece. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the creativity and escapism of this novel myself and I could really connect with Lily who relishes in the magic and mystery of the supernatural. And yes - my 12 year old niece loved it too!
A perfect piece of Australian storytelling for the smaller people in your tribe. Lily is feisty, strong and brave - everything you could want a hero to be, and everything we want our children to be. The spiralling storylines and big, bold characters are a joy, while the essence of Australia throughout makes this book that little bit more special for those of us living in our lives in this beautiful big, red land.
