This is an alternate cover edition for B01DB0TZ4C

Set in a dystopian future when, after a decade of war, the United Kingdom is on it's knees, ruled by strict martial law and where any 'deviant' behaviour like homosexuality or lesbianism is punishable in a manner worse than death--the perpetrators are forcefully 'reset'. Samantha Fielding, an emotionally scarred war hero, struggles to adapt to 'normal' life so she enlists in a top secret scientific research program. Here, not only is she pushed way beyond her physical and emotional limits in order to unleash powerful and potentially lethal dormant human abilities, she also finds herself dangerously falling for the principal scientist, Dr Victoria Henderson - risking everything.

This book is hard for me to rate. At first i considered abandoning it because it was too.... weird. And it starts with the main character in a traumatic war situation. And then there was a m/f sex scene. I was sure this book wasn't worth my time.
But the writing style worked well for me and was easy to read and before i could give up on it, i found myself interested and curious to know how she becomes a superhero and if she gets the girl of her dreams.
It was a strange read, but i did enjoy it and at the end i was looking to see if there were more books in the series. (There's not yet) There are definitely some mysteries left and i can see this being just the start.

Okay peeps. I have no, I repeat no, issue with MF action. BUT I do not expect to read a female/male sex scene in a 'lesbian' romance. I didn't even get to 10% and, just whoa, not what I expected.

Consider yourself warned, FF lovers, there be girl on guy, rompy-pompy, between these sheets pages!

Because it's my prerogative to do so, I'm shelving this one for now. At least, until I get over the above and maybe, maybe, one day decide to see if the bigger picture is worth reading.

So this is the first book in the series and I really don't know how I feel about it. I loved the concept behind it, I loved most of the plot behind it, I don't know if it delivered what I hoped it would (if that makes any sense). The story takes place in a time after a great war where one country or power takes control, think V for Vendetta if you will. The new government has a bunch of stupid rules and of course there is one about homosexuality, as in not allowed. Break any rules and it's not death but "reset." The government controls pretty much any all scientific research and breakthroughs that they feel they can use to hold on to control. Pretty grim world...
Now, enter your two main characters, Dr. Victoria Henderson and war vet Sam Fielding. Now, Sam actually pissed me off during the book because she was basically an idiot, as in she didn't care about the severity of her actions...oh no, she knew what she was doing so can't blame ignorance. Anyways, she signs up for a voluntary research experiment headed by the Doc where they try to tap into the full potential of the brain, think Dr. X and Jean Grey potential.
The book starts off great. The Prologue was very intriguing and painting a great picture. After that, I feel the book didn't push or describe or have anything really happen on that same level of action or intensity. It was more I was being told this was happening but I wasn't described it to the point that I could see it, feel it. It wasn't a bad read. It wasn't the greatest read of this genre. Will I continue to read the series...Yes. Mainly because I wanna know what happens and I'm a sucker for these types of books.

As I read this, I thought about the current political situation around the world and especially here in the U.S. What if?
Skyborne superbly creates a damaged character in former Marine and war hero, Samantha Fielding. After she returns home from her physical and emotional torture at the hands of the enemy, she struggles to find herself and her place in a post-war United Kingdom.
She is lost in a sea of memories that continue to torture her, looking for a place to belong, and in need of some way to earn a living. She finds herself volunteering as a subject for a top-secret research program that is funded by the government, ironically because of a chance encounter with a beautiful woman who just happens to be the person leading the program. If her attraction to Dr. Henderson becomes known, she could be sent away for “reset” which would wipe her memories and correct her unnatural ways.
Although there was a lot of testosterone flowing through many of the characters, the three main women Skyborne created bore witness to the strength and determination for survival that women possess.
I was truly surprised by the ending…no spoilers, I think you will enjoy finding out for yourself.

Can't wait for book two!!

I can see our super-hero Sam and her fabulous love interest Dr Victoria Henderson putting their dystopian world to rights for years to come. It's an uncomfortably close terrible future (reminded me of Margaret Atwood's books).

This is a really interesting story - perhaps a little difficult to get into, but you finish it hooked and wanting more. And the setting - the Cornish coast around Godrevy and Gwithian - is wonderful. Great idea to locate our lesbian super-hero there.

I loved this book and read it in one sitting. I liked the menacing backdrop of the dystopian world and the journey Sam goes on from PTSD as an ex war vet to falling for the brilliant scientist and what happens next which I won't reveal! I am also a fan of Jesse and how he supports Sam through awful times.
Looking forward to Book 2

Can't wait for the next book in the series. The characters emerge through an engaging plot with suspence and anticipation keeping the reader hooked from start to finish. Definitely an author to watch out for in this genre.

The first chapter was gripping and then kind of lost itself in I felt a little too much detail before regaining a gripping storyline. A nice love story that contains quite descriptive lesbian sex so if that floats your boat then I recommend to read.

Simulation: The Dawn of a SuperHero:

Fantastic story and brilliant read..This was about a soldier Sam who survived but suffering with nightmares coming home to a place she barely recognised due to the never ending war.The only survivor of her family is Mags. Sam decides to go to a lab where they do experiments earning £50 a day. Whilst she waits in line she is involved in a fight. But soon he into the place whist there she meets someone after helping her retrieve a ring, Sam finds out her name is Dr Voictoria Henderson the leading scientist in the trials.

Very good and quite interesting

I enjoyed this book much more than I initially thought I would. I wasn’t sure on the scientific nature at first, but it proved well worth the read.
