This free course, Intermediate Le quatorze juillet, is taken from Ouverture, a language module that concentrates on French as a tool for communication, but it also provides some insights into French society and culture through authentic printed, audio and video materials. It will be of interest to all those who want to improve their language skills in order to communicate more easily and effectively in French. Intermediate Le quatorze juillet focuses on the French national holiday of 14 July which commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison (la prise de la Bastille) in 1789.
This is another book from The Open University on intermediate french. This is looking into the festivities which surround Bastille Day on 14 July. In 1989 it was the 200th anniversary and there were many celebrations going on all over France, these are some of the people who attended events and are describing them to the interviewer.
I quite liked this, again no sound on my amazon fire tablet for some inexplicable reason, it does helpfully tell you that I have no sound and handily presents you with a few pages of english translatiion. However I knew these anyway.
A free e-book with video links. Written french is different from spoken french. But this is filled with dialogue. It was much easier for me as a beginner to understand . Thank you for the gift OU😊
A great little guide to help brush up on french in the conversational context. I really appreciate the content that the Open University makes available for free. This reading is based on people's opinions on Bastille day (14th of July).
Another Openlearn course. This one looks at the French celebration of 14 July, the French national day, commonly known as Bastille Day in English speaking countries. There is some history but mostly this is conversations with ordinary people about what the day means for them. It is an intermediate French course with history and culture thrown in.
The Openlearn website contains many videos and audio excerpts that are linked from this book. There are transcripts for all of these, but the book is best experienced alongside the multimedia content.
