Pier 70 #3

Speechless

Rate this book
He’s suffering in silence...
Teague Carter, one of the four owners of Pier 70 Marina, has spent his life feeling rejected. To the point that he has never allowed himself to get close to anyone. He prefers it that way, in fact. But he refuses to believe that his destructive behavior might be something more than rebellion.

He’s unable to speak...
Hudson Ballard, Pier 70’s mechanic, has been fighting his attraction to Teague for years. He has stood by and watched the kid get more and more out of control, but this time is the last. If Teague wants to use sex to escape his problems, Hudson is certainly willing to be the one to show him that he’s good with more than just his hands.

Sometimes words aren’t necessary.
There are fireworks when this out-of-control bad boy agrees to no strings with this tatted up, dominating mechanic.

Can Teague and Hudson keep their emotions from getting involved in their arrangement? Or -- thanks to the demons from their pasts -- will the darkness steal from them before they have a chance?

"Sometimes I wish I could hate you as much as I pretend to."

FINALLY!! This book finally gives me what I've been waiting for in this series....the perfect combination of plot, emotion and Nicole Edwards signature steam.

Teague and Hudson have been a background teaser for the first two books and now we finally get their story.

The blurb sets up the book perfectly, so there's no need for me to get into any of the plot. But, what I will say is that this book deals with some serious issues.....depression and suicide. However, I do want to add that even though those are some heavy duty subjects, this book DOES NOT feel heavy or sad or weighed down by some dark ugly cloud.

Teague and Hudson were bound to collide one way or another eventually, and setting up a no strings relationship was just the perfect way for each man to get what he wants. Convenient and amazing sex.

But first, the ground rules must be set:

* No Alcohol
* No Sex in a Bed
* No Sleeping Over
* Most Importantly, No Emotions

Nicole Edwards knows how to make your kindle burn and your heart race! Hudson was a dominant toppy top and Teague was a submissive bottomy bottom....and that makes for one combustible and explosively hot combination!

But, those pesky feelings started creeping in and and bit by bit each interaction started chipping away at that last rule....no emotions.

I loved Hudson's patience with Teague. Little by little he weakened Teague's defenses, with or without Teague's permission. Teague was absolutely helpless when it came to his desire for the man. Somehow, Hudson was able to calm the turmoil constantly swirling below the surface.

But old traumas rear their ugly head and Hudson comes to realize that some scars run deeper than they appear. Teague is fighting a battle that's much more serious than anyone thought, and it's a battle that Hudson is all too familiar with.

I had such a hard time putting this book down. I just loved these two....their dynamic was sweet and passionate in equal measure. Watching Teague slowly open up to Hudson, something he's never done with anyone, was so heartwarming. I worried how the communication would factor in here since Hudson is mute, but oh boy, they managed just fine!

Ethan will forever be my favorite Nicole Edwards book, but this one just slotted itself nicely in my top favorites from her (I'm not sure anything will ever top my love for Ethan).

**I want to point out that even though this is book 3 in the series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. The previous two books (and especially book 2) just built up the tension between these two, but it did not provide any additional information that would take away your enjoyment of this book. Also, a small subplot was carried over from the previous book, but again, it does not involve Hudson or Teague and does not affect their story.

This is the third book in the pier 70 series and eventhough the story stands on it's own, I think reading the previous ones would make this story more enjoyable and it will give you more insight into the main characters of this book.

This time it's Hudson and Teague's turn, and I have been waiting for their story since I was first introduced to them in book 1.

Teague is 25 and has been working for the pier 70 marina for about 10 years. Cam, Dare and Roan took a chance on him, when he was 16 and desperate for a job. Teague is known to have some heavy moodswings and eventhough no one knows, he comes with some pretty heavy baggage.

 photo tumblr_nj9mb5D9A01u8hb0vo1_500_zpsoujfpnuk.gif

He takes care of his anger and frustration with sex....emotionless sex. Teague doesn't do emotions or intimacy. He doesn't have any family or real friends, except for the guys at the marina. He doesn't even consider them close friends, because he's convinced, when it comes down to it, no one gives a shit about him. This is all due to his horrible past.

Lately however, he's been struggeling with his intense attraction to Hudson, the hot mechanic of the marina. He can't stop thinking about the man and it's pissing him way the fuck off.

Hudson is 35 years old and he's a born mute. He has been working as a mechanic at the marina for a couple of years. Hudson has his own baggage to carry. Growing up as a mute hasn't been easy and losing his mom to depression and suicide has left it's marks. Thankfully he has some good friends and an awesome brother.

Hudson has been watching Teague for some time. The attraction he feels towards the young man is extremely high, but he's also worried about Teague's selfdestructing behavior. Something will have to give. So Hudson offers Teague a deal. Teague will stop drinking and stop fucking random men....and Hudson will take care of him sexually. After all.... this is what they both want.

Teague agrees, but has some rules of his own. No emotions, not intimacy and no fucking on a bed.

 photo no-relationship-no-emotions-just-sex--2_zpskhcfy2mb.png

And so it begins....

Ofcourse we all know, the fuck buddy thing never works. Eventually feelings will emerge, as was the case in this story. Hudson knew things were changing for him, but he also knew Teague would not be interested in more....he made that pretty clear. So Hudson keeps silent at first, until he can't any more...

 photo 405x83xi-love-you-sign-language_zpstjki9shh.png

This is where the story takes a bit of a turn, and to be honest, I didn't see it coming.

As always with a Nicole Edwards book, the sex was steamy hot !! Hudson was quite the dominant man, and not being able to talk, wasn't a issue at all. This book is long though and eventhough there were plenty of sexyscenes....it took some time for Hudson to actually fuck Teague. Hudson was worried, that if he gave into Teague's needs, things would be over pretty fast. So he kept teasing Teague to keep him interested. I however, was just as frustrated as Teague !!!

 photo TEase_zps7swedscj.gif

I enjoyed this book more than I did the others. I think that has to do, with the characters being more interesting and because this is a more emotional story. Near the end the book takes a turn that I didn't see coming and I like it when a book can surprise me.

I would however liked it more if there would have been more interactions with the characters form previous books. We get some...but most of the storyline is between Hudson and Teague.

4 stars from me ;)

I couldn't get enough of this one! Loved the writing and the characters! Teague and Hudson were amazing!!! Super hot and also extremely sweet at times. This book wasn't as light as I expected, but I love angst! One of the main characters deals with depression. It was painful to witness his struggles. Glad it all ends well.
Looking forward to reading the next book!!

This book was deeper than what you'd expect from Nicole Edwards. Depression, anxiety, self harm, suicide are all dealt with beautifully here. I loved Teague and could relate to him on many levels. I absolutely fell in love with Hudson. I'm a sucker for the big, dirty, sweet ones. The book was oftentimes heartbreaking, frustrating, hot AF and sweet. Just the way I like them.

Speechless is my favorite in the series so far for sure. I really liked the way Hudson and Teague were so different. Hudson is mute, and his personality is so reserved. He’s mature and calm for the most part. Teague is the youngest of the group, several years younger than Hudson. He has an explosive temper and loud presence. I enjoyed the entire journey with them.

Speechless is full of sexy times, beyond smoking hot. It also deals with deeper subjects like depression and suicide. I honestly adored reading every word. I’ve been very busy lately, and this book was the perfect escape from my heavy workload.

I loved Teague and Hudson right from the moment I met them.
Teague who is so confused, so steeped in anger and self doubt it hurts reading what's going on in his mind, and Hudson who can't speak and has his own hurdles to overcome.

There can be no doubt that both men have issues to work through, but Teague in particular has a Himalaya of problems to sort. His fear of letting anyone in is astronomical and although he feels the pull towards Hudson, loves their sexual relationship (which is hot, hot, hot btw), although he knows that he likes the guy, he is unable to jump over his shadow and admit that he FEELS. Because feeling is something he is sure he can't afford.
So on the one hand he pushes Hudson away as soon as he shows any kind of affection that goes beyond casual, but on the other hand he thinks that no one really cares for him. It is totally illogical, but there is no logic to what Teague is going through.
I admit I am a sucker for torn characters like Teague and loved that aspect of the book to bits.

Teague

And Hudson is equally intriguing. I have never read a book where one character could not communicate verbally and was really keen to find out how the author dealt with that. I think Nicole Edwards did a really good job, actually. A lot of the communication between Teague and Hidson is non-verbal, especially at the beginning, but I never got the impression that anything was amiss. They get on just fine with what they do.

Hudson...

What I really loved about this book:
.) the way the MCs slowly but surely claw their way from casual hook-ups to a real relationship
.) Hudson's gentle, but relentless perseverance with Teague
.) The strong connection between the MCs
.) The simmering UST at the beginning
.) the way Hudson never gives up on Teague

What I didn't like:
.) other characters's POV thrown in for convenience sake (Roan and Milly)
.) the ease and speed with which Teague got 'better' at the end. I do understand that his treatment will have given him a different angle on things (and it is acknowledged that his treatment is not finished for quite a while), but he seems a changed person after the drama towards the end of the book. For me the change happened far too quickly.
.) the way other events took precedence over Teague and Hudson's story at the end

On the whole though this is a book very well worth your effort and time, and it is well memorable for its characters.

Highly recommended.

4 stars for the story of Teague and Hudson, the 3rd book of the Pier 70 series from Nicole Edwards. Not really a standalone as all the previous characters are present (nice to see them all).

I’ve been waiting for the story of these 2 guys right from the beginning of this series : Teague, the youngest of the owners of Pier 70 Marina, known for his rebellious attitude, his volatile temper and his predilection for booze and meaningless sex, and Hudson, the mechanics of the Marina, born mute, his older co-worker and mechanics, a strong and reliable man.
From the way Teague kept pestering after Hudson, I knew they would be explosive put together, and gosh, they were.
OK, to be honest, the start was a bit rocky for me, with Teague seriously gritting on my nerves, but then, then…, it clicked in the most satisfying way. There is sex, a lot of sex (with foreplay, blowjobs, rimming, toys,…) but also emotion, turmoil and romance, and friendship.

I love to see Teague slowly opening up, despite his constant fight to stay away from any attachment, and leaving his anger behind, under the awesome patience and tender, although wicked and dominant, care of Hudson.

Warning : depression and suicidal behaviors are addressed.

After “Ethan”, this one is my second favorite m/m book from this author !!

Will definitely looking forward to Roan and Colton’s story.

Loved this book - another beautiful addition to this great series. Nicole can do no wrong as an author. The chemistry between her characters is always smokin hot but also allows for a level of emotion and vulnerability. This was Hudson & Teagues book and I must admit I was waiting for this one. Hudson is an enigma, a silent mute who holds his emotions close to his heart and Teague is an energetic character who ranges from the joyful highs to the depressing lows. This story is about how two beautiful men learned to communicate and finally let someone in ❤️

”I want to wake up with you in the morning.”

I was so looking forward to Speechless! I loved the little glimpses we’d gotten of Teague and Hudson in the two previous installments. It made me so excited to start reading this book, since I was dying to know how their romance would unfold.
So I have to say I was a little disappointed.

Speechless was not at all what I was expecting it to be. That is usually a good thing, as I like to be surprised, but this time around? It was just kind of a bummer.

I do have to say that I liked Teague and Hudson as separate characters. It was really cool to learn more about them, especially Hudson. And the steam in this was suuuuuuper high! So if you like your books hot, you’ll def like this one. As it is, it was their relationship – or lack thereof – dynamic that bothered me.

The confrontation I was expecting to take place right at the beginning of the story didn’t happen. The things that happened in the last book between Teague and Hudson were barely touched upon in this one, and didn’t serve as a catalyst for them to get together. It was like the author forgot what had happened between them and decided to run with this new and more exciting idea they had.

In fact, they don’t really start a relationship until about 75% of the book. What they have before that is an ~arrangement, which Teague ends up forgetting all about when he gets angry at Hudson and does something stupid. And when they do get together, it’s after a “twist” that does come out of absolutely nowhere, but instead of leaving me shocked it just left me confused.

I guess it was the slow pace in which they got their heads out of their asses that bugged me most. There was a lot of Teague and Hudson having sex, but not a lot of them actually talking about things. As it seems to be true for this entire series, really.

I seem to be somewhat addicted to this series. We have a handful of hot guys running a marina. Most often wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and flip flops. Who wouldn't be "slightly" addicted right?

I was SO looking forward to Speechless. I was sure it was going to be my favorite of the series and blow the others out of the water.

I don't know what it is about these books that don't quite reach 5 star status for me. I haven't been able to pinpoint the missing factor yet. So I keep reading. Hoping the next one will be "it".

Speechless was not it and I'm sitting here so freaking disappointed that I don't even want to write this review. Don't get me wrong, it was GOOD, but I had high expectations.

Themes like the age difference were basically ignored. Hudson's muteness was glossed over. Instead we are given this brand new (read as 'random') twist that simply didn't fit. It didn't fit the character. It didn't fit the scene. It didn't fit the actions, reactions or resolution. I found it completely unbelievable.

Why am I giving it 3 stars? Hot guys, shorts, flip flops, remember? Yeah, I'm shallow like that. What of it? :-)

Doch.

5 Star review of Fearless (Pier 70 #3) by Nicole Edwards

This is the third book in the Pier 70 series and I loved it. This is an M/M story; I love how Ms. Edwards set up this story about Teague Carter and Hudson Ballard right from the very first book you just knew that there was something explosive about these two.

Although a stand-alone, I would recommend you read Reckless and Fearless the other two books in the series, as you will get a better understanding of the Pier 70 owners and the secondary characters.

Speechless is an extremely powerful book; the author has put a warning at the start of the book for a reason. This book deals with mental health, depression and suicide, which could be triggers for some readers. It was a book that was well written and sensitive; the subjects were dealt with compassion and respect. This was a heartbreaking and at times rollercoaster of a read; one I could really relate too.

In Fearless, things between Hudson and Teague hit an all-time low. Teague cannot handle the feelings that Hudson evokes in him. So much so that he is bent on destroying himself with drinking and meaningless sex. Hudson is a Dominant and decides it is time to take action. Although mute, it doesn’t mean that he cannot communicate. Hudson has wanted Teague forever and finally makes his move; if Teague wants sex then Hudson is more than happy to give it to him. But is that what it is just sex? Scratching an itch and getting each other out of their systems? Or is there more?

At no time whilst reading the story did I get the feeling that Hudson being mute detracted from his Dominant alpha personality, I had no doubts that he was the one in control. This is ultimately a love story; can Hudson’s love for Teague help him to overcome his feelings of self-loathing and distrust?

One of the things I most enjoy about Nicole Edwards’ books is that she doesn’t just focus on the two main characters; she always ensures we get an overall story with no one being left out.
Nicole Edwards is one of the best authors around when it comes to writing M/M stories in my humble opinion and this one is no exception. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I’m not sure how many times I’ve read this. For now, I’m just going to agree with GR that this is only my second time. Apparently I gave this 5 stars and I’m assuming it’s because of Hudson and ONLY Hudson. He has been mute since birth and he is a very kind man. Cam (book one), Dare (book two), and Roan (book four), have all learned ASL so they can communicate with Hudson. Teague is a jerk and refuses to learn ASL and treats Hudson like crap even though they work together most days. Hudson has worked at Pier 70 marina for 2 years. TWO YEARS and Teague has refused to learn how to communicate with Hudson.

This is definitely an enemies to lovers story. I abhor those for the fact that there’s always one character that I end up hating and the author fails to redeem to my liking. There’s no surprise that in this story, that character is Teague. I get it that Teague has issues from his childhood. I get it that he suffers from severe depression. That’s kind of a spoiler, but there’s an author’s note about depression before you even start the book. “Dear Reader, This book touches on some very sensitive subjects, including suicide and depression, all of which should not be taken lightly.” (I won’t put the whole note here.) But that’s no excuse for how he’s been treating Hudson for two years.

I’m going to DNF this book this time around. It’s not because of the subject matter, it’s because of the constant repetition. I am not enjoying how Teague is treating Hudson. I’m only on chapter four and he can’t stop calling Hudson a “Giant Fucking Asshole.” This just isn’t my kind of book anymore and I’m done. (I am taking one star off my original rating, which I think is generous, for this disastrous attempt at a reread. I’d probably rate this one or two stars with the way it struck me this time around.)

I was pulled right into this story. I consider this author one of my go to author’s you can pick up any of her books and fall into a wonderful story that will keep you tuning the pages. The story has laughs, suspense, secrets, M/M, and heartbreak.

Before reading this story please read the below books first
Reckless (Pier 70 #1)
Fearless (Pier 70 #2)

This is Teague and Hudson‘s story. These two have sparks flying. Both have a sad and horrible past. Can one offer to help the other be just what they need? One is falling apart and the other is trying to help. But will feeling be no only hurt but shattered in the end? Can the sex that is between them turn into what they both not only need but what can heal the hurt they both have in their hearts? Or will things that happen bring them both more hurt? As one tries to protect and love the other one tries to fight his feelings with everything he has. In the end who will win out? Can they both win or will they both lose a piece of themselves?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

I don't know why I have not been able to connect with the characters in this series. Usually I have no problem with this in Nicole Edwards' books. In fact, some of my favorite characters come from her books. I can't put my finger on what is different about this series compared to the others. Maybe it feels rushed. I'm not sure.

I enjoyed this so much better than Fearless! Damn I am glad I liked this one. Teague and Hudson were electric when together. I am glad they got Teague the help he needed and his whole makeshift family was supportive and behind him all the way. Especially Hudson.
