Interesting general considerations, not amazed by recipes

The chapters about general considerations are interesting. The author takes a somewhat technical approach to nutrition. I am unsure whether this is a good thing, as there are lots of different opinions about these topics (he advocates going for low-fat dairy and reducing Omega-6, whereas some scientists say the opposite is better) and being so clear about them can lead to a false sense of security. This book is aimed mostly at Ironman athletes as the considerations for sodium and race fueling are much less important in shorter races.
Regarding the recipes, I am not amazed. In my opinion they are rather complicated and not time-effective, which is something that is very important for age-groupers. The ones I tried out weren't amazing to say the least, but I have not tried out all of them. Taste is subjective though.

I am not a runner or triathlete. I am not even an athlete or do I play any sports. I only do a light cardio work out several times a week, but I would like to eat more healthy. I received an uncorrected proof copy, so there are not any colors in the pictures. Since the author includes a picture to almost all the recipes, I would like to see the dishes in colors. I have only made one dish from all the recipes, Quinoa-Crusted Chicken Tenders. It was delicious, healthy and easy to make. All of the recipes sound easy to make, I do not think you need much cooking skill to make them, just do not burn your house down. Before the recipes, Kropelnicki uses half of the book to explain many useful nutrition facts. They focus mainly on athlete, but most of the facts would apply to everyone.

This book provides a nonsense free, scientific backing for nutrition requirements for endurance athletes. The authors layout simple rules, core food groups and link it to biological requirements in the body.

The book is premised on an expectation that the reader is engaging in heavy training at a reasonably high level, and the nutrition advice is based on this. The book is somewhat high-level and I would have appreciated if the recipes listed had more general nutritional guidance so that people could understand the general learnings if they did not want to follow the specific recipe itself.

There are some good tips in this book. However, the author does not address the difficulties in being a person that fuels with sugar/carbs (glucose) instead of fat (not the tire around your matter), but the fat that your liver stores. The liver is where we get our fuel. The liver does not store much glucose (50 to 90 grams) and this is why we hit walls and need more sugar/carbs (glucose) while on a long run or training session. The liver stores a lot more fat that can be burned and less likely to hit a wall. The recipes are mostly heavy in carbs.

Overall I thought the book was well written and had a lot of good information in it. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I thought the choice of recipes was a bit underwhelming. I would have want a great number and variety of recipes for each section. Very good basic information though overall.

Excellent content for a novice marathoner. Key concepts address items such as fueling, supplements with a macros approach to eating. I appreciated all of the recommendations for products and expertise. Recipes are wonderful.

This is a pretty good book for recipe ideas. I am more in the mindset of paleo vs vegan or vegetarian so many of the ideas this book offers are pretty good if you just tweak them a bit.

Trying to fix my nutrition but this is not the book I was hoping for - I will continue to seek on and prepare some of the meals outlined in the book

I am not an endurance athlete but I am very active and workout 5-6 days a week and this book, especially the cookbook portion has been very helpful. It is full of useful information to improve athletic performance through the foods we eat. This plan is based on the core diet. I was concerned that an endurance training cookbook would be a lot of carb loading and tons of pasta but this is the opposite. Jesse focuses on clean foods, protein and carbohydrates from vegetables, fruit or quinoa. I have made about 1/3 of the recipes from this book and they are all very tasty and easy to make. I recommend this book for anyone following a clean eating lifestyle.

I am not an endurance athlete by any stretch of the imagination. But! I do find nutrition absolutely fascinating. So as a non-athlete, the information on nutrition and the simple recipes are absolutely great and I will definitely be using those soon.

I skimmed through the endurance schedule bits, but they didn't really apply to me at this stage in my life. However, the information and schedules looked extremely detailed and robust. There are several examples and guidelines which look immensely useful.

THIS book has a lot of useful information on endurance and how to achive it. I also liked the many recipes.
