One decision will haunt Blackstone soldier Keith for a lifetime…

Keith left behind the feisty love of his life, Lexi Klein, ten years ago when he chose to become a soldier and leave for Iraq, but after a tragedy struck Lexi’s family and Keith couldn’t come home, she felt abandoned. When Keith finally managed to make it back to Boston, Lexi had completely withdrawn from everyone, including him. She decides to end their relationship and move on.

Lexi has always owned Keith’s heart. He just didn’t know how much…

Keith returns to Boston years later for a wedding and finds out Lexi is dating the leader of the infamous Almas Perdidas Gang. Lexi is in over her head, and Keith will stop at nothing to keep her safe. Having never recovered from her broken heart, Lexi wants no part of his grand savior routine. She made her choice, and she has her own reasons to stick to her guns about it.

Keith fights to regain Lexi’s trust, but old wounds are slow to heal…

After Lexi is beaten for not following gang rules, Keith decides to take her on a trip to convince her once and for all to let him back in. But Lexi is holding on to one last secret, and it will change everything. Happiness comes at a price, and once the front Lexi put up comes crashing down, that price will be paid in blood.

Keith must make a decision. Does his loyalty lie with the military? Or with the woman he loves? Or has too much time and history been lost for them to make one…final…

I am not entirely sold for Escape. I have my reservation especially the chemistry between Lexy and Keith. It feels cold.
Second chance romance should be about the chemistry. The moment they meet again for the second time. Miss Drake fails to bring the chemistry to sizzle heat.

I do like Keith though. I thought he is sweet and loyal. It just his presence in Lexy's life is more in the background instead of the main character.
Lexy took a while for me to grow some chemistry with. She is a little annoying.

Anyway, it is Christmas Eve here. 2021 is comes to closed. With pandemic....

Oh my gosh, Keith's story couldn't be more perfect than this! Everything that happened—damn, it would never be a book written by J.L. Drake if those things didn't happen. I was hooked, I couldn't stop reading. My stomach twisted, my hands started turning icky and clammy because I was nearly at the end of the book and I still had no clue where it's going to take me and how it will all end. And those last few chapters just about gave me a heart attack! To say that this book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time would be a huge understatement. Bravo, Ms. Drake, you did it again!

Brandon Keith has always been the silent, broody member of the Blackstone team who kept to himself more often than not. I've always been intrigued by his mysterious demeanor that every time he gives us a glimpse of his sweetness and vulnerability, you latch onto it like crazy. And what piqued my curiosity the most is who or what kind of girl would actually win the heart and soul of a man like Keith. And let me tell you, Lexi Klein couldn't be more fitting for this man. She's a very sweet, smart and sassy girl with a very courageous soul who was taken into the wrong crowd—a vicious gang, to be exact. She lost her way, she lost her family, she lost her soul, she lost the love of her life. But you know what they say about true love—it braves whatever storm, whatever bump in the road life gives you. No matter how long it takes, you always find your way back to one another.

This book took a very unexpected turn, though in a very good way. I was hoping to get more of the Blackstone men getting involved and everything happening in the safe house, but that's not entirely where this book took me. We did get very interesting snippets of the family in Shadows still though. But Escape focused more on Keith and Lexi's history, their separate lives, how they were together and how they are able to resolve their unending issues. How they battled through all the danger that life tossed at them. It was absolutely amazing. I never thought Keith would win me over more than he already has, but I was so wrong.

In the second book in the Blackstone series, we get to finally learn Keith’s story, and why he was receiving so many mysterious text messages in Honor, the first book in this spin-off series.
While the focus of these books tends to be the relationship between the hero and heroine, I was particularly invested in Lexi’s relationship with her twin brother. It was rocky and tragic, and I do wish that we had gotten a little more insight into her brother and why he made the decisions he made. He was an interesting and flawed character, and Lexi’s love for him dictated many of the decisions she made throughout this book.
One thing I don’t particularly like about second chance romances is not getting to watch the hero and heroine first meet. JL Drake finds the perfect solution for this by writing Keith and Lexi’s high school years, when they meet and fall in love, in the early part of this book. That said, some parts were a little rushed, just because of the short nature of the book and just how much was happening in it.
I also wasn’t crazy about the ending. It made me dislike Lexi, which is an emotion I’m not used to feeling towards heroines of romance novels--particularly the ones written by JL Drake. Spoilers ahead!
3.5 stars rounded up, just because I love JL Drake’s writing style and the world she’s created, though this is the weakest book I’ve read by her so far.

Have you read Jodi’s books yet? If not, you need to get on it now! I love her books and I know you will too!!

Escape was sooooo good!! I love it when I get into a book from the very beginning and can’t get enough of it. That’s how I was with Escape. I read every free minute I had until I finished. Jodi writes stories that you cannot put down. I went into Escape thinking that it would be more of a military story than it was. But I was pleasantly surprised and think it’s perfect just the way it is. It’s well written with a thought out plot that had me on the edge of my seat. And everything is so descriptive I pictured it all as I was reading.

Escape is Keith and Lexi’s story. One of the things I loved about it is that their story isn’t all love and happiness. In fact, it’s the opposite. Their story has so many trials and tribulations. The plot is complex and brings you on a roller coaster of emotions. Mixed in with all the drama is love, romance and humor. I found my heart breaking, then I found myself laughing. My heart and head were all over and I loved every minute of it.

Keith is one of my favorite male characters. He’s sweet, loving, strong, fearless and determined. His love for Lexi knows no bounds and he will fight for it. I absolutely loved him. I also loved seeing other characters that we met before and loved.

If you want a book that will you will absolutely love, you need to go read Escape! And all of Jodi’s books for that matter!! Go!

Blackstone. Non voglio dimenticarti (Blackstone, #2)<br />by J.L. Drake

*Prossimamente recensione completa sul blog Love is in the books*

Oh my, I love Keith's story. The silent, broody member of Blackstone, Keith had his secret just like everyone else on the team. His past came back to haunt him one day, and on that day the sh*t really hits the fan.

Brandon Keith was the love of Lexi's life, but he made the decision about joining the army without even consulting her. She finally relented and was not too mad at him for enlisting without even taking her feelings into consideration. She went off to college and was true to him until her parents were murdered and she felt abandoned by Keith because he couldn't even come home from Afghanistan to be with her in her time of need. When Keith finally made it back to Boston, Lexi had withdrawn from everybody, her own family, friends and even him. He was absolutely crushed when Lexi broke up with him.

Keith never stopped looking out for Lexi and years later Keith goes to a wedding back in Boston and it comes with a big shock. Lexi has hooked up with the leader of a local gang. Keith is crushed and has to earn Lexi's trust slowly back, but it's not all as it appears to be. Keith feels Lexi is in way over her head and Lexi doesn't trust Keith's savior routine. She feels that he has let her down too many times in the past. When secrets are exposed what they truly find their way back to each other?

Have I said recently how much I love Ms. Drake? She just another fantastic job on this series. I can't wait for the next book!! I highly recommend this book.

Wow, What a book...This book is completely full of amazing feels. I expected a book different than what J.L Drake gave us. I guess I was expecting more military story than anything. And it turned out to be so much more than that. I loved the complexity of the characters and the way they evolve and grew together as the story went on. Just completely amazing. I appreciated that the book gave us more than just military missions with the Blackstone boys. It went beyond that. We got the back story and soft side of a man that really was never able to be as expressive with his feelings and past. I really loved and savored that about Keith's character and story. Drake was able to pull me in as a reader from chapter 1. Her writing in this book is so heartfelt and poetic that I read this book right through the night. Now I do have to say that there was moments with Lexi's character that had me wanting to throw my kindle across the room. The frustration as a reader wanting to fix them and their love story was definitely there. And that's how I know this story was soo worth reading right through so I know how it ended. And what a ending it is!! ;)
Overall Keith's and Lexi story is Heart wrenching, Sexy, Romantic, Steamy, Emotional ride!..That in the end will have you sighing and wishing there was more. Definitely 5 Star read. Happy Reading Kiddos!!

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

Audio:
Lucy Rivers is NOT a narrator I’d recommend to anyone. Talk about robotic. I enjoyed listening to Nelson Hobbs narrate though. He held a true Boston accent!

Story:
As for the story, man...I LOVE KIETH. I loved his character ever since I met him in Broken and I was STOKED to learn more about who he really was. Suffice it to say, I love him even more now. Swoony AF, protective, family man...overall BADASS.

Unfortunately, though, I was not a fan of Lexi at all. I couldn’t connect with her and she truly irritated me almost the entire time.

As for the plot...hold on to your seat!! In true JL Drake fashion, the storyline was, as always, addictive and action-packed! A page-turner through and through.

4.5 Stars!

Oh my gosh what a heart breaking read , I really loved Honer and knew that I would feel the same about Escape but didn't know I'd feel such a strong kick in the emotions with the pain that Keith and Lexi face . This can be read as a standalone but why miss out on the awesomeness that is Mark and the group if you don't you'll get a little taste of how hilarious Mark is he tried to still the show so many times . The first couple of chapters are told through flashbacks because Keith and Lexi are high school sweet hearts then the rest of the story we get from were the first Blackstone left off witch I really liked getting into the history of the couple . Keith is such a tough hero with a heart love they he is with his blood family and his Blachstone family he did frustrate me a little I'd think "what are you doing man" but over all really liked his character . I'm really conflicted on my feelings for Lexi I understood the pain she had to go through basically alone but the way she pushed the hero away when he first came back really irritated me but again loved her as heroine . These two were just made for one another from one glance they were hooked . Can't wait to see who's next in the series J.l Drake gave me heart attack with the ending , adored the bonus chapter .

Awful. Writing was fine but the story was meh and the characters needed to just leave one another alone.

Keith was fine. Normal. Sweet. Lexi was a train wreck. She had "darkness" in her and of course that's why it's her goto excuse for not feeling "worthy" of Keith and acting like a big whiney selfish baby the entire effin book. She was combative and sefish. I swear to God how she harped on the whole him going into the army part. Jeez. I wish he'd moved on cause Keith deserved better. No idea why he kept chasing her sorry ass. She wasn't worth it. And then in the end for her to once again push him away for "his own good" and run away and keep the fact she was pregnant with his child a secret for eight months and he only found out because of an anonymous tip supposedly from her cousin?!?! Oh well ask her to marry you and happily ever ridiculous after then. Because why should anything make sense, right?

I don’t know okay? If I was completely disconnected from the Broken series I would say this book ROCKED and IM IN LOVE WITH IT..BUT for some strange reason I’m so protective of Keith/Savi’s relationship that this made me slightly sad. I don’t know, it’s weird. I loved Lexi and obviously she knew him first and they belong together…but WHY LEAVE SAVI DUDE. PLZ just take Lexi to the house. it’ll make me feel a tiny bit better.

Also sometimes Lexi drove me crazy. But I guess that's why he loved her so. I can deal I guess.

But all in all, the book was beautiful and we FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY saw into the dark private soul that is Keith.

Also, praise that the book didn’t end like I thought it was going to. That would have been savage.

I was not expecting the emotional roller coaster Escape took me on. Lexi and Keith get a second chance for the ages in Escape. While Keith is trying to save Lexi, she is an independent woman. She tries to fight. The characters were all intriguing, each added to the story without being overwhelming.

Escape was an addicting read. The swift storyline hooked me, and was so intense. I could not put the book down! The characters play well off of each other. While I would classify it as a Military romance, it crosses several subgenres of romance. Escape is the second of the Blackstone books, but can be read as a standalone. Recommended to the reader looking for a heartfelt, emotional romance.

Sooo mad!

I love every single man inside Shadows specially in the Blackstone team.
I have loved Keith since book one and I was so sad his love interest was this crazy, annoying, immature, indecisive pain in the ass of a woman.
He deserved someone better.

description
Keith and Lexi’s story…

The Blackstone crew are back and it was wonderful catching up with the military group and their families. Keith was a strong protector and stood out like most of the characters did in Honor, the first of this series. Here was the chance to dive into his past and his love… Lexi was his high school sweetheart and one decision made her turn her back on him and their relationship. When they met years later, he had to think fast. He loved his family and Lexi, the one that got away. Using flashbacks, their story, and the up and down truth about what happened between them, was laid out with heart. And hope.

This story had me so torn. A tense plot and a complicated path for love were strong pluses to this read. I loved the fight for right that the Blackstone group had and Keith embodied that ethic. He adored Lexi, his family, and put himself out there again and again to fix all that was broken. Lexi was the weak link to their romance though and that colored my appreciation though it hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm for this series one little bit…

Another worthwhile, breathtaking, and amazing story.

There is no way you can't become invested in the Blackstone crew after reading the Broken trilogy. Each character has such a deep story that will have you loving the series and then more. I could continue following Keith over and over for decades. 😁 I was a little worried with J.L. Drakes humor, let's say, toward the end but it just makes you more excited. I look forward to reading on and following the stories of every character as you learn and understand more about them while also catching glimpses of previous characters to see their progression in life. I would also like to say I feel for Savi because this one hits hard. Enjoy

Whoa whoa whoa, was this good

Well where do I begin? Yes I like Mark, a lot. How could I not, he’ll always be a favorite, and the whole gang and jokes still keep coming, and just as always I can’t get enough. But after reading Keith’s story, OMG let. Me. Tell. You. I just fell even more in love.

“Savi,” Mark called out, holding Olivia like she might bite him. “Your child smells like old beans, and frankly, I can’t handle it. Cole and I voted, and you won. Here.” He brought the little lady over to her mommy, who scooped her up and kissed her chubby cheeks. “When will she be potty trained?” “She’s just walking, Mark. How about we don’t rush my daughter through her childhood?” He laughed. “Just give me a date, and I’ll mark the calendar.” “Daddy owes Mommy big time.” Savannah’s face scrunched at the smell. “I know; why don’t we leave your diaper in his office so he can have a little taste of what you make after he feeds you from his plate?” “Oh, please, let me tape it.” Mark smirked. “If you play dumb when it happens, I’ll let you show the world.”

“Keith.” Cole nodded for me to follow. “I think I found the perfect place.” “Oh, great.” I followed him to the stairs, but something caught my eye. I raised an eyebrow at Abigail and Doc Roberts enjoying a kiss in the kitchen. “Hey, Mark?” I couldn’t help myself. He looked up from his phone. “Savannah made cookies.” “What?” He jumped to his feet and headed over as I pointed and waited. “The woman never told me. I’ll have to—” He rounded the corner and flinched, turning his head dramatically. “Really, Abby? This is a place for food!” “Oh, grow up, sweetheart.” Abigail scowled at Mark, then beamed up at Doc Roberts, who was fixing his tie. “Did Mia get pregnant by a stork?” “Haven’t you left yet?” Mark hissed at me as he stomped toward the stairs.

This story has you all over the place it’s that good. I was up so late reading this book that I finally had to force myself to put it down, at 3AM. Yes 3. AM. When I did finished the book, I was so tired and drained, but oh so wanting more. Keith truly is a good and heartfelt person especially to those he loves. When it comes to family or someone he cares about he will stop at nothing for them if needed, and that is exactly what he does for Lexi. His one and only first love.

“Give me strength! Between you and Savannah, I’m going to have a stroke at forty.” Who was Savannah? He moved around to open the passenger side door. “Please, get in.” I waited a few beats to calm my anger and to fuel his. With a heavy sigh that I didn’t try to hide, I moved around to the front of his truck and placed a hand on the door and the seat. He suddenly grabbed my hips and hoisted me inside. “Jesus, I should’ve expected that.” He ignored my comment and pulled off my boot to dump out the water. He did the same to the other. “Keys?” He held out his hand with an annoyed look. Biting my tongue, I removed them from my jacket, thankful they didn’t fall out when I took my unexpected swim. I handed them to him, and he slammed the door shut.

You can really see that, Keith was raised right by a good family.

Keith might ravish me when were alone, but he was respectful when others were around us.

So when you meet Lexi his first love/ high school sweet heart, in his book. Someone who he’s always loved and cared about, you can’t help but instantly like her. There’s just one thing, after Keith’s deployments and years apart, Lexi has been through some stuff that isn’t good or exactly pretty and isn’t like the girl she once was. She’s gotten mixed up with the wrong kind of people, and is now keeping a secret that she’s been holding in for a while. Lexi is constantly trying to push Keith away like she doesn’t still have feelings for him, but of course Keith won’t have it. He still sees the girl he once loved so much and is determined to do whatever it takes to save her and prove, how right they are for each other. The only thing is, can Keith save Lexi before it’s to late and everything goes really really bad.

She cleared her throat. “I want to ask you something, but you have to promise not to kill Abigail.” “Depends.” She muttered something about the fact that she shouldn’t, but I knew she was going to ask it anyway. “Besides Three’s wedding, are you home because of a woman?” “Oh! Step back!” Mark shouted from the background. “Keith has a lady friend? Road trip! Shotgun!”
(AGAIN LOL WHO DOSEN’T LOVE MARK)

So once again this is definitely a five star book to me. This is a must read series and I’m glade I’ve read it.

I don't want to say why I had issues with this book. It is very spoilery and I don't want to take anything away from anyone else's reading experience. The problems I had, others may like that part of the storyline/ timeline.

I still love JL Drake's writing, and will read more books from her and continue this series as well. She is an amazing writer, and very accurate with her portrayal of her characters.

Escape.

This is the second book of the Blackstone series and I was looking forward to it. We get to know Keith in the previous series and I really wanted to read this story. It starts really fast with the beginning of the love story of Lexy and Keith and you can expect a lot of love, steaming sex, tears, heartbreak and violence.
First: I didn´t understand Lexy all the time. Sometimes she was such a whiny b**** where I thougt "come on girl, put your big girl panties on and solve your problems". Then there was Keith who always plays the big hero and Eliot? What the ****? He has never grown up and stand his own man ...
But: What I didn´t expected was the ending: Seriously? A whole book and than the ending in two pages as an epilogue? Finally, everything was ok? I think the author was in a rush and just wanted to finish the book ...
One point for Nan - granny!

Oh MY Keith! Your story make me cry like a b*tch baby! Keith fell in love with his forever love when they were in High School, but lost her when he chose to to become a soldier, and left for Iraq. When tragedy strikes his love Lexi, he cannot come home, it broke her. And by the time he could come home, it was too late for them, as there wasn't much left of the feisty girl he left behind. But Keith never forgot his girl, and when years later he comes home for a wedding, he finds out that Lexi is dating the leader of a brutal gang, and he knows she's in over her head, so he will stop at nothing to save her. His task is only made harder when Lexi wants no part of his protection, so will Keith ever get his girl back, or has too much time passed?! Escape gutted me on so many levels, as I LOVED both Keith, and Lexi, who brought the thunder with angst levels! Did I want to shake Lexi for some decisions, hell yeah I did, and even wanted to shake Keith a time or two. Their path in life nearly brought me to my knees, and I'm still emotional hours, and 3 football games later! I LOVE the brilliant J.L. Drake, but I gotta admit, the way she first ended things, literally caused my heart to drop, so even though I'm better now, I still need to push her closer to the top of my list of authors trying to KILL ME DEAD! AND, her new hash tag became, #EVILWHOREQUEEN! I would love to explain why, but then it would just become spoiler douchery, but she knows what she did! Anyhow, I'll NEVER EVER get enough of this series, and so I'll end with HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!

HOLY INTENSITY! Keith's character and all his mysteriousness piqued my interest when I met him in Honor (which isn't necessary to read before this one but it wouldn't hurt). I had no idea what he was hiding, I figured it might've had something to do with a woman but I didn't expect all the dark and twisted that I found in Escape.

I was swept up in a world of good versus evil. Nothing is quite what it seems and where you can't always tell the good guys from the bad. But the one thing that was never in question was how much Keith longed for Lexi. The one he let slip away. Revisiting their past was as sweet as it was painful. I liked the glimpses of a softer side to them both. Where they hadn't been hardened by time and life and circumstance. But time and life had changed them and not necessarily for the better. Keith was hard. Lexi was lost. Call it fate or destiny but when Keith and Lexi wind up in each other's orbit again. There was no denying the longing and love that was still there, as much as they both tried to push it aside.

While there was a slight lull in the story a few times, my heart was racing through the final third of this book. There was danger and fear and a touch of hope through it all that kept me reading furiously to find out just what would happen. No spoilers here but I will say that my heart was in my throat! On a lighter note, there were glimpses of the rest of the Blackstone crew sprinkled throughout the pages of Escape. J.L. Drake has created something truly unique with this series and I am wholeheartedly looking forward to the next installment.
