This is a short story that is part of a series. Each story is a stand alone where they might tie in with a novel. In this one we follow Greer as she enters a race for pilots as her whole life has been devoted to flying.
There really isn't much substance to these short stories as they are really quick reads. This one might be my favorite of the ones I have read so far. The story itself is nothing special. This story stands out as we see a character from the novel Bloodline and it foreshadows the predicament of this character in that novel. The race and main plot adds nothing to the overall arc as it is just another race from this universe. There is a surprise visit from a character at the end which makes sense seeing where this character is in the novel that I mentioned.
The only reason to read this story is for some background information to a minor character from a novel. That alone is why I enjoyed this story and why I gave it three stars. The surprise appearance by a character was a nice touch and a statement that was said did put a smile on my face as it is a nice reference to a beloved character.
Was a short story as part of the subpar Star Wars book I am currently reading and decided to take a break and give this a go.
Didn't really achieve anything just gave a little bit more about the background of a bland character that I hope after this and Bloodline that I never hear about again.
Felt a little unfinished. Not sure why we needed this snapshot of Greer, except to prove that she was a really good pilot, which I didn't doubt in the first place.
Wow I just love Han Solo A Lot except that this short story in the back of claudia grays' book i was like: wait, where have i read this racing scene before; oh yeah. lost stars. it's almost identical to the racing scene in lost stars, and not in a fun star wars way, but in like. let's use the same tropes in a less exciting way. i guess it's because i just got done learning all there is to know about greer and i already know that she's a junior champion or whatever.
I am no friend to racing (outside of little doses in movies... for example, one race in 6 films is enough, even if I liked it). I especially do not like it in written form. It does not excite me to read about any of this. And Star Wars racing in books is aditionally unecesary convoluted with bogus gimicks and stupid rules. And still you always know the outcome. I did not enjoy this tale. And the "surpise" cameo at the end was no surprise at all.
Cute story. It features Greer Sonnel before her time serving as Leia's assistant in Bloodline, and is about a race used to determine who will serve on Han Solo's privileged flying team. The gimmick is obvious, but still pretty cool. Dawson has characterization skills, which she uses to make us care about Greer.
This is one of the better Star Wars Insider short stories. This one ties into Bloodline and features one of my favorite characters from that book. This was written well, as to be expected from Dawson. She has written my favorite Star Wars stories of the new canon.
This is a fun prequel that ties in with Bloodline. Personally, I would have preferred a sequel about Joph and Greer as a couple doing something for the newborn Resistance, still fun though!
Cute !!! Just a short story at the end of Bloodline, but adds a little context to a character you get to know pretty well in the book. It was a fun read :)
A quick fun read featuring Greer Sonnel from the book 'Bloodline'.
The book follows Greer as she races in the Gauntlet, a legendary star fighter race, which also happens to include her ex, Karsted as one of the competitors as well as a mysterious pilot, whom she refers to as Double-A.
The short story first appeared in 'Star Wars Insider' #165 and can be read for free as a standalone short on the official Star Wars website.
Not bad. I read this just after having finished "Bloodline" and the character fit right in. The pace is good. We really have a good feel of the entire race and what happens from beginning to end.
