This book of poetry tells the story of one disaffected individual who searches a confusing and often painful world for personal meaning. Facing disillusionment and unanswerable questions, he goes on a quest of self-discovery that begins in the urban center and eventually leads far to the north chasing a dream he never knew he had. These poems were written during this journey of self-discovery, and reflect the mind-spinning, heart-rending experiences along the way.About the David Barnes was born in the suburbs of a Midwestern city, and grew up in an idyllic environment. Allowed the freedom to explore where he would as a child, his parents instilled a wonderment within him that would never die. Upon achieving autonomy, the young man set out to determine his worth by testing the boundaries of his own self and the world he inhabited. He sought out the million flashing lights of the gritty inner city, before abandoning the monuments of man for the timeless yet ephemeral shrines of nature in a tent on the side of a mountain on an island in Alaska, where he lived, loved, laughed, cried, and eventually came back to earth, fuller, wiser, emptier and more a fool than ever before. He survived, but barely. Since that journey of awakening, Jason continues the search for truth and to evolve the ideals he discovered. He is now a proud father and husband who finds himself very near to those same suburbs that spawned him.
