Really enjoyed while reading this comic. Superman is one of my favourites and now this comic has his son who I am also beginning to like.

I liked the scene when his son accidently blasted his cat.
I hope this series is going to be an enjoyable one. Really hope!

With 24 issues in as of the time I am writing this review, we already know for sure that Rebirth's Superman series kicks ass. Everything started humbly with issue one, a fine and straightforward issue about the Kents mostly told from Jonathan Kent's point of view. This issue serves as a very good starting point for those who are interested with what is going on with DC's Rebirth era.

Like Manapul's Trinity series, Superman starts rather calm and subdued with Tomasi focusing on the characters and the dynamics between them. Though too little is still revealed at this moment, the tone of the series is already set. And I am glad to say Superman is inspiring again.

Superman is great again.

Spoilers follow:

Okay so the New52 Supes is now dead and the true Superman (the one who was killed in Doomsday, the golden age Supes, is alive and actually existed in the New 52 world. He is married to Lois Lane and they have a son named Kent. I feel that this family angle is a rather effective and heartfelt one. This grounds Superman and gives him both the motivation and reservation in his actions. The dynamics is fun, serious and most of all, natural.

This story picks up from where Rebirth leaves off but it doesn't really have to be read in order to understand this new issue. I liked the art, especially the large spreads. I thought the layout of the issue was fantastic. Not really much happens in this issue though. It is mostly a setup, setting, issue where we show how the "Smith" farm is going. The "Smiths" are Lois, Clark, and their son Jon's secret identity where they have their own farm away from everything. This is just as much a story about Jon growing up and Clark trying to figure out how to raise his son with super powers, than anything else. The end of this issue sets up a possible really interesting issue #2. Overall this was just alright. I hope that issue #2 brings the quality up and sets up some tension.

This was pretty good but.... it didn't really focus on superman but for like two pages? Maybe three, four at very most. The rest of the book focused on Jon (or should I say Superboy?), which was still good, but I don't see why it was in this title and not the Super Sons one or even Action Comics.

That's really the only thing of note I have to say about this one. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as the one-shot was.

The comic could be called 'The Superman Family'
In how it's family oriented and the focus becomes Lois and Clark's son. It was off to a good start, I could practically hear the Superman theme in the beginning, afterward the quiet nature of the home/ farm life was good. Clark thinks about what was told to him in DCU Rebirth, bringing into question once again who they really are. What was going to be an exciting start to a series gets squashed by a lame cliffhanger, An obvious red-herring. And if it's not, there was little to no build up to any danger, (besides when it says "next issue: ' '.
I think if I would of read this at an earlier age, I would feel that nothing happened, but the way it reminds me of a horror story .. some character development, slow pace, jarring visual. It did its job of the child's pov.

A strong issue for the super family whose been displaced and just trying to live a life unnoticed. This was a split issue in term of focusing on Clark and Jon (his son), but not until Jon uses his powers to save a friend was I drawn into the story more. Though some of the best lessons are learned through mistakes, hopefully the Son of Superman road has less bumps.

Jon is coming into his powers and he's scared of hurting someone. It's really moving and I feel so bad for him. He really looks up to his dad which is great. I wasn't the biggest fan of New 52 Supes titles and I don't know much about what went on in the transition from New 52 to Rebirth but I'm really enjoying this series so far.

comic. The story starts out with post-flashpoint Clark standing over the grave of new 52 Clark while saying his goodbyes and promising him that the legacy of Superman will continue in his absence. From there, the story moves on to show Clark's family. There is a lot of focus on, Jon, the son of Clark and Lois. While Jon gets more focus then even Clark in this issue, his story is interesting and I think there is a lot of potential with the way Tomsai and Gleason are handling him.

The art by Patrick Gleason is a real highlight of the book. Gleason's art is gorgeous and does a great job of depicting the tone to various scenes that happen throughout the comic.

There are only two minor problems that keep me from giving this comic a 5 star rating. The first problem is length. This is a very short comic. The art more than makes up for that but it is still worth noting. The second problem is that I think this comic could have used some explanation of the current situation with Clark and his family. Its also shown that Clark and his family have changed their last name to Smith. While its easy to assume that they did this due to the events of Superman: Lois and Clark #8 - Arrival Conclusion, an explanation would have gone a long way.

Superman #1 is nothing like what I expected but it is a great comic. While I do have some small complaints with it, they are vastly outshined by all the positives in this book. Superman #1 is a quick read but its a very enjoyable one and I can't wait to see what Tomsai and Gleason do with the series.

Short storyline and mostly uneventful. I liked the art and the humble storyline, it's one of those introduction episodes that is required every once in a while. The lead into Justice League isn't suttle and probably unwarranted but I have no issue with cross overs. The Jonathan arc is interesting and having him struggle with powers could be a huge issue down the line. I like consistency and this storyline is already in play and since the Rebirth oneshot Superman has been steadily rebuilding, time to get to work.

Let's start with a precision because I find it a little confusing myself. This is actually rebirth #2. They started this new series, calling the first one rebirth #1 and then continue with the second one that they just named #1... so probably not the best call ever, but let's continue about the comic book itself.

Way better then the first one, not much of action, but great illustrations and a story that look promising! Looking forward the next one.

This is unusually dark for a Superman story. It's good, though it's channelling elements very close to what's in Marvel's The Vision series: that lurking, unwinding horror just before things go all wrong. But this is also a Superman story, so I'm not sure if the conflict will right itself. I'm certainly intrigued.

Wow people at GR are harsh , I kinda liked this book , sure I thought it would have been better had they connected this issue with action comics but hey I am intrigued to see where this Superman having a Son with half kryptonian genes and power leads to . The Art could be better but hey don't mind whatever happened here at all

CW: ANIMAL DEATH

It's difficult to rate this because nothing really happens. There are some dark undertones about Jon, Clark Kent's son, learning to use his powers, but 99% of the issue is just showing the boring lives the Kent's live. It's all chores and dinner table conversations. However, the art is gorgeous and I really loved it visually. Story-wise it was pretty uninspiring though.

To be honest, I only picked up this title because I heard that a character I'd love to see again is in issue #4. That being said, due to my general interest in the forthcoming "Super Sons" I guess I should get an idea of what Jon Smith is all about.

Kind of a...graphic...introduction thus far.

Certainly not bad enough to prevent me from reading the ones I've already bought.

Clark, Lois, and Jonathan Smith are living a simple farming life. But they have secrets - secret lives, secret identities, and a secret purpose. It’s tough for a young boy like Jonathan to deal with all of that and the idea that he’s developing super powers as well!

This story is appropriately called “Son of Superman” since it focuses primarily on Jonathan. We’ve gotten some insight into him previously in the miniseries Lois & Clark, as well as the Rebirth special that kicks off this series as well as the Action Comics sister series, but this story seems like it’s going to really open up the boy to readers. He really is the emotional center of the book here and you actually feel a lot for him - especially during an accidental overuse of his powers. Tomasi does a nice job making readers empathize with the boy so much so that your heart kind of hurts a little for him. It makes him very relatable and sympathetic. You feel for the little guy right away and immediately want to take care of him. Tomasi gets you on his side right away.

There is a nice lead-in to the story featuring Clark at the grave of the New 52 Superman as well. He reaffirms that the legacy of Superman will stay alive on this world and will be well-remembered. it’s the Clark we’ve always loved and the values that he’s always represented. Love seeing that here, and love that MY Clark Kent is back!

While I’m normally a fan of Gleason’s art, somehow there are panels here that just don’t work. Maybe it’s the partnership with Mick Gray that’s not working, but there are some panels where characters look odd and malformed. Most of the art is spot on and kept me moving quickly through the story. I love that the kids in the story have such wide, wonderous eyes - really reflects that innocence and the idea that they’re absorbing everything around them. Very nice!

This was a great way to start this new series and you could feel the tempo just slowly amping up as the issue went along. It felt so short when I finally got to the last page! I’ll take that as a good sign!

I just wanted a wholesome Superman family story, and this turned out to not be that. I was very confused by where the story starts off. I guess some things happened beforehand I'm unaware of? With Jon, I get that there's a need to show his powers being out of control. But what happened to Goldie and the bird was completely unnecessary and really off-putting to me. Maybe this story arc isn't for me.

I'm a new Superman reader, so I can't speak for how this honors the characters past, but as a new reader I loved this one. It's cool to see Clark be a dad, and it's cool to see his son struggle with his powers. The scene with the cat was EMOTIONAL, it was presented so effectively through the visuals. Then, to see Clark, who has been so reserved about using their powers, suit up and tell the kid to go with him has me very interested to learn what the League told him!

It was ok. The art was great. That's about it. Typical superhero family story. Son has issues with powers and problems arise. Mom and dad are cliche adult parents with boring dialogue. Jon (the son) obliterates a cat and bird, new supes can't hear that though... Sure. Waiting to see where this arc goes from here.

Not bad for a starting story.

This issue kicks off with the New Superman (and his family) adjusting on his new world and his son, Jonathan, controlling his powers. The story focuses more about family and maybe they're trying to build up a bigger plot for it. Since I read Action Comics first (the first story arc), I am expecting that this will be better.
