Jurgens had a lengthy run on the Superman comic books including The Adventures of Superman, Superman vol. 2 and Action Comics. At Marvel, Jurgens worked on series such as Captain America, The Sensational Spider-Man and was the writer on Thor for six years. He also had a brief run as writer and artist on Solar for Valiant Comics in 1995.

(I read this as a physical single issue, but I'm not able to find that edition on GR, so I'm just going to use this one. I also had to buy the variant cover of this because I was late getting to my local comic shop.)
Actual rating: 3.5 stars.
Not as interesting as the one-shot was, but I can tell the future issues are going to be really good! I like the pre-52 superman a lot, and I can't wait to read the Super Sons title when it comes out (I believe that's what it's called). And is this Lois going to be Superwoman? I really need to hurry up and get to reading some omnibuses, because I have a lot of questions...
All in all, still and entertaining read.

I was underwhelmed. I felt the characters were reading their lines, rather than convincing anyone of their reasons for doing anything. Lois made the most sense when she asked Clark why he would give up all of their work and hiding just because Lex showed up in an S-Shield. And Superman's logic didn't win me over. Nor did his jumping to conclusions immediately later. I felt that with the time taken to observe and distance himself, he would have been more level-headed. I'm all for a plot being pushed somewhere, but it has to have support from the storyteller. "A leads to B leads to C because OBVIOUSLY" only goes so far. If you can't capture me along the way, I'm not going to respect the twists and turns.

In the wake of the death of Superman, Metropolis finds itself with a new hero to guide them towards a bright tomorrow. With bestowing himself in the cape and symbol of the fallen Kryptonian and Luthor has proclaimed himself to be the new Superman the world now needs more than ever. While unbeknownst to him lies two concerning forces about to make their presence heard, as the original (pre-52) Superman and 'something' explode onto the scene for all of the city to see. Who will be left standing when these three go head-to-head-to-head? Spark fly, as this series is off to a good start and near the end has me wanting answers.

Great setup that has me asking so many questions. The art is fantastic and the story is written really well with just the amount of dialogue vs action sequences. Great partner comic to be reading along with Superman.

This is a book with an intriguing storyline, that much is sure. I haven't read the latest Superman or Action Comics issues because they were getting, frankly, horrible. This one benefits from a bit of context from Superman Rebirth, but subverts a Chekhov's gun with a couple of plot points.
I think there is also another post-Convergence Superman series out there that sets the back story to this storyline, but hey, how many books can one keep up with?
I'm intrigued by the story and the threads it's opened in the first book, so I'll definitely pick up subsequent issues.

Superman hasn't been my favourite superhero for a very long time. This rebirth has rekindled my interest and for the better part this book was okay. The major revelation at the end kicked this up a rating. Still skeptical they can give Superman a strong storyline

As much as I love my hundreds of Jurgen written Superman comics,
I have to admit they're not the best written. They're ok, but kinda disconnected from the reader and full of dialogue. This issue was a pleasant surprise, though. There's a small twist in the beginning that I'm probably the only one didn't see coming. Another twist near the end that kept being hinted at coming, and I still couldn't believe it. A mystery villain looking at screens of the events going on from his lair, that old chestnut. An epic Superman returns moment, more like MY (pre-new52) Superman returns moment.
Hmmmm.... I may be partial to this whole thing.
The comic made me laugh twice and that's rare.
The art is perfect.
When it's collected in tpb, with Jurgens track record with me, it might fall apart. But so far so good!

With Superman dead, Lex Luthor has stepped up and taken on the cape and shield in the hero’s honor to defend Metropolis. But Clark can’t stand seeing Luthor taking ownership of the House of El legacy, and reveals himself as “Superman” to this new world. And how is Clark Kent back from the dead and reporting on this story?
Lots of revelations and returns from the dead this issue, and that makes for a very compelling comic book! I’ve liked this “original” Superman since his reintroduction in the Convergence event. As lone survivors of their world, this Clark and his family (Lois and their son, Jonathan) were relocated to the prime Earth of the DC universe and have been living in seclusion and shadows. Their lives were expanded upon by Dan Jurgens in the Lois and Clark miniseries from 2015. He just seemed more real and true-to-form than the New 52 version ever did. And that alone made me happy, but to see him again wearing the blue suit and taking back the name of Superman, is truly great!
Now I have to admit that this Luthor has had his ups and downs throughout the New 52 era, but near the end of that run he was something more positive than earlier on. But he’s always scheming and working for his own advantage in spite of any “good” works he may have done. He does manage to get this Superman to more or less start the fight this issue, whether that was intentional or not. But it’s enough to stir up all of Metropolis. Should be interesting to see where these two end up at the end of this first arc.
Zircher’s art is always impressive. He has a great sense of grandeur and action, but the quieter scenes are equally excellent. You can really see the compassion in Lois’s face when she’s speaking to Jon and explaining what’s going on and why, as well as the determination in Superman’s face when he heads off to confront Luthor. I’m never disappointed by an issue drawn by Zircher.
This is a very promising first issue that has pulled me back into Superman!

This was a cool issue! I liked Superman explaining to Jon that their powers aren't for cheating at everyday life. I like the idea of Luthor using Superman's death as a way to gain public favor. This is exciting!

So many mysteries but for me the biggest one of all is why are Wonder Woman and Batman on the cover when they aren't even in the story? Because comics is the answer.

There are so many people claiming to be Superman or in Lex Luthor's case wanting to replace Superman. Lex Luthor needs to get out of here trying to be a rip-off Superman. Honestly, I think that the real Superman was the man wearing the Black Superman suit, but he does not seem to be Clark Kent. Then, there was a guy named Clark Kent who was Superman (he has a suit & everything), but he was trying to lay low with his son & his wife, Lois Lane (yesssss !!! my favorites were together in this issue). What has me confused, like Jimmy Olsen, was the fact that there was another Clark Kent that popped up on the scene. Is he the same person as the guy in the black suit because that was the only scenario that made sense to me. Will everyone please reveal who they really are? I love Superman & prefer only one true version of him... please & thank you. Then, I want to know why everyone knows Clark Kent & Superman are the same people? Impatiently waiting for the next issue.

Doomsday otra vez en las historias de Superman. Esto se pone cada vez mejor, sin duda alguna.
Superman está muerto, y aún así el mundo sigue girando.
En el centro de Metrópolis, la capitana Maggie Sawyer ha regresado del Grupo de Trabajo de Crímenes Mayores de Gotham para dirigir la SCU de Metro. Mientras Jimmy Olsen intenta jugar con su antigua amistad para poder pasar el cordón policial, ella simplemente repite la información que él ya sabe: cuatro hombres armados han tomado rehenes en el vestíbulo de las oficinas de Geneticron, pero no han hecho ninguna demanda.
Dentro, los pistoleros insisten en que los rehenes pueden irse cuando su plan esté cumplido. Siguiendo el procedimiento habitual, la policía corta la electricidad del edificio, algo que los pistoleros esperaban para su plan, pero en la penumbra se ve un escudo S brillante, cuyo portador jura que no tendrán éxito. Rápidamente los involucra en una pelea, lo que preocupa tanto a Sawyer que corre a intervenir, solo para que Lex Luthor salga del edificio, con una versión modificada de su armadura que lleva el escudo S, y declare que el día está salvado.

The biggest problem with this book is how similar it seemed to be to the main Superman title. Batman and Detective Comics distinguished themselves perfectly from each other, whereas this one didn't, as they both just deal with the old/new Superman dealing with the death of the N52 Superman. Which makes sense, as obviously that's an important character plot, but I still wanted more of a clear-cut distinction.
That said, it was a really, really fun read as it was mostly action, and I really enjoyed it. For the same reason, however, I don't think that I need to read it twice monthly, but I do really, really look forward to reading it in trades for longer doses of some glorious action.

Has some great stuff in it, but feels like it's front-loading all its best moves. Still not a fan of post-DOS Clark being the new main Superman.

This was a good start to the action comics with Superman , Luthor in a suit mimicking superman , Clark kent and a weird looking doomsday wait Superman and clark kent both at one place? WTF?
