One of an innovative new series of linked stories designed to build reader confidence. Based around the nursery rhyme Sing a Song of Sixpence, these three stories expand the stories of the king, the queen and the maid in amusing and modern ways! Walker Stories support beginner readers making the transition from picture books in an engaging, entertaining and accessible way. Each title features three highly-illustrated, individual short stories linked by one character, so readers can build familiarity and confidence.
The King's Shopping is an entertaining book containing three short stories. Each story reveals a problem; Does the king have enough money? Is the queen eating too much honey? Can the maid trick the blackbird? I enjoyed this book as it was humourous and contained nice illustrations alongside the text. I feel that it is suited for children aged 8+, and would be ideally be used for guided reading within a classroom. It could also lead onto cross curricular activities involving history and numeracy.
It's a fun book! I can see the queen's need for the thing that the king bought. But, the book didn't say why he was excited about it. Although, it is pretty sweet of him to want to make his wife happy.
