When sky pirate Coud Van Giruet discovers Ren, a girl with mysterious powers that can turn any human being into the ultimate fighting machine, he joins forces with the agents of the Elemental Gelade Protection Agency to protect her.
Mayumi Azuma (東 まゆみ Azuma Mayumi, born April 24, 1975) is a female Japanese manga artist who is the creator of the now completed manga Elemental Gelade, which finished with eighteen volumes and was adapted into a 26-episode anime television series, and its ongoing spinoff manga Elemental Gelade: Flag of Blue Sky. She is also recognized for creating the manga adaptation of the video game Star Ocean: The Second Story.
Before her career as a manga artist took off, she started out working as an assistant to Kozue Amano, creator of Aria.
A good addition to the manga series, this one doesn’t have a lot of story like the previous volumes, however, kept up the action and excellent character building. I’m excited to see what the next volume brings.
I've been greatly enjoying the Elemental Gelade books. Mayumi Azuma has a very attractive drawing style and good character designs, and in this third volume the story she tells becomes far more interesting.
My favorite character is Cisqua, and she really gets to shine here; she's given a lot to do, her character is developed beyond what the first two books allowed, and she gets a major battle with a Pleasure whose Edel Raid has some pretty tight defenses. Since Cisqua isn't a Pleasure herself, she relies on standard weapons and her own fighting abilities and proves herself to be more than just a cute face with a penchant for money-grubbing!
It's appropriate Cisqua is on the cover of this volume; this is more or less her book and she takes center stage for most of it. That plus the interesting turns the story takes (and the great cliffhanger it ends on) makes this my favorite book in the series so far. Manga fans should check this series out. Sure, like any manga it uses some well-known cliches in its story and cast, but it's what it specifically does with those things that makes it stand out. It's not a complete run-of-the-mill type of story.
Elemental Gelade is a fun series, and for established fans, volume three is a treat.
It's the final face-off against Wolx Hound for the gang and everyone has been beaten down but Coud, Ren, and Cisqua. Will these three be beaten by this sly devil, or will Cisqua reveal a trick or two up her sleeve?
