Love kills … so who will end up six feet under?

The explosive novel from the Sunday Times #1 bestselling author Kimberley Chambers.

Two weddings. One funeral.

It’s the 1980s and although the East End’s heyday is over, one family still rules the manor.

Michael and Vinny Butler have always provided for their own and made sure business stopped at the front door. But the old ways are changing – women and children are fair game and nothing can protect them.

Though blood is thicker than water, it’s now brother vs brother. The question is, who will come out on top?

And there’s a new generation determined to make their mark. Little Vinny has just married the sweet Sammi-Lou and is battling not to follow in his father’s footsteps. But it’s only a matter of time before his dark secret comes out and destroys them all.

Is this the final nail in this East End family’s coffin?

OMFG. Can this woman spin a tale or what!! I am gobsmacked ... again.

The Butlers. A force to be reckoned with. Vinny - still a cunting bastard. A leopard won't change his spots, I suppose. Will stop at nothing to do right by his family.

Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away, I've got to
Get away from the pain you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn, I can't sleep at night

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love (oh)
Tainted love

Vinny and Michael.

Vinny, you are a true prince among men.

Vinny Butler only ever enjoyed shagging birds up the rear. Not only was the hole tighter, it saved him from having to look at their stupid faces.

Talk about slime.

"Won't last, that marriage.
Look at their body language.
I reckon Charles is in love with that Parker-Bowles woman."

"That's what's wrong with this fucking world.
God dropped a massive clanger when he created a John Thomas."

Queenie and Vivian. OMG. The pair of them were a total hoot.

Cannot really say too much. But another totally engrossing read from this author.

"As for mobile phones - what a waste of time they are.
No bastard ever answers 'em."

... there was more to him than met the eye. She knew a villain when she saw one, having birth to three.

If you haven't been acquainted with the BUTLER'S yet, by christ your in for one hell of a ride.

Kimberley Chambers smashed this series....she is one hell of a writer....bloody top drawer!!!

I don't think I have ever come across a more evil character, boy does he play the part well...yes I'm talking about Vinny!!

Vinny Butler.....

But of course he's not the only Butler, there's a whole host of characters that made this story jump off the pages and play out like a movie in my mind.

I can't finish this review without mentioning Queenie and Viv, these two had me rolling up...the ol bat's were hilarious especially the mention of dingle-dangle.

Now I'm left wondering could there be more....

Bloody hell that was a brilliant end to such a fantastic series!!!!!!

I’ve decided to do a series review instead of one for each book. I did write one for The Trap but after finishing that book I jumped back on the BUTLER crazy train and haven’t written one since.

Tainted Love was perfect. Well in my humble opinion anyways. My thoughts could be clouded from the haze my mind has been in since submerging myself in these books just about a month ago but quite frankly Kimberley Chambers incredible imagination has provided for many surprising and rather unnerving twists and turns that I found myself completely fixated with lives of the Butlers.

The Butler boys ruled the East End or wherever they landed. They were all despicable in their own rite but it was Vinny who was the most evil and vindictive. He was vile.

 photo 28ae976b-069d-45e5-b4e9-13e44d0f68b3_zpsg38a3w7a.jpg

This series covers a span of just about 30 years. Throughout each book the lives of the Butlers were tainted with dark secrets and hatred coming from those who have felt the wrath of this family. Revenge and betrayal is known by all. Be it the wives, the children, the boys or the men in the business. There was no escaping it. I searched for that silver lining but just couldn’t find it. It was the nature of the beast I guess.

I really cannot get into the plot. I wouldn’t know where to begin. Be assured though that these books are addictive and enthralling. I loved them all.

I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention Queenie and Vivian. These two made me laugh. But I wasn’t fooled because they too were a force to be reckon with. Queenie controlled this family and would do or procure whatever necessary to keep her boys together.

If you are looking for a bit of evil in your reading world then this series is a must. I guarantee that Vinny Butler is one character you won’t soon forget.

Where do I start, fans of Kimberley Chambers will love this and I firmly believe this could be her best book yet. You do need to read the first 3 in this series in my opinion to fully experience this story..

The Trap
Payback
The Wronged

Vinnie Butler psychopath, sexy but scary as hell, his brother and family are everything to him.

Michael Butler is happy but how long until the truth is revealed.

"‘Is my daddy famous, Nan?’ Ava enquired innocently. Queenie couldn’t help but smile. ‘Yes, darlin’. Your daddy is a legend.’"

Queenie and Viv would have me laughing out loud..

"‘Any man who tried to put his todger near me would get it hacked off immediately. Unless it was Eddie Mitchell "

Yes Eddie Mitchell fans he's back

The Butlers are crazy, I mean crazy and as I've said previously they really have no redeeming qualities but I love the way the author tells their story. This must be made into a tv series one day.

Right now first things first, some people may look at my rating and roll their eyes. It seems all I ever do is rate this author’s work as 5/5. Yes, I have certainly been doing that lately, however that full star rating is fully deserved. One thing I must confess though is that the first few chapters that feeling was the complete opposite. Yeah, I know that sounds shocking but it’s also true. I do NOT rate authors for any reason other than that of my own opinion. For those that maybe haven’t heard of Kimberley Chambers you may want to go to my author list and look her up, this book is certainly not the place to start. Tainted Love is part of the books featuring The Butler family (The Trap is Book 1, Payback is Book 2 and The Wronged is Book 3). I certainly don’t believe you can read this as a standalone as you really do need the history behind this family.

When picking up this latest I was so excited as book 2 had left me with so many questions. However, when I started reading I quickly realised it had been 10 months and probably the best part of 100 books since I had last read about the Butler family. Things were not settling well with me, and that caused me some serious heartache. However, thankfully after the first quarter of the book was over I felt like I had never been away. The reason I say this is that there is SO much that has happened and so many characters that it takes a while to re-familiarise yourself. I think maybe this is a problem that could be down to the sheer number of books I read as opposed to your normal reader that has maybe only read a few books a year. So back to the story itself and what I thought!

So we join the Butler family in the 1980s and when I say there is a lot going on, I really mean it. All of the loved and loathed characters make their reappearances and they all seem to be at different stages of their life. Out of all the characters that surprised me in this series the major one has been Little Vinny. It seems Little Vinny has done his utmost to turn his life around following the arrival of his little boy. He is determined not to follow in his father’s footsteps, and even knowing what had gone on in the past I couldn't help rooting for him. Vinny is his usual bolshie and arrogant self and frankly I’m surprised he is still breathing after everything that has happened.

One of the main threads that was a follow on from the last book involves Bella who is madly in love with Michael. When Kimberley Chambers decides to go for it in terms of shock value, she certainly doesn’t hold back and this storyline featuring Michael and Bella is no exception. Unfortunately as many readers will be aware there are many secrets that various family members’ hold and it seems that this time around nobody is left untouched.

Queenie and Viv seem to have taken more of a back seat in this latest outing but it felt fitting, and when they do make their appearances it’s done in true Butler style! Albie is also back (Queenie’s ex-husband and the Butler boys and Brenda’s father). I really like Albie and think the poor bloke could do with a break. The real kicker for me was the last quarter of the book. I spent the first quarter getting myself re-acquainted, the 2nd and 3rd quarter totally absorbed and the last quarter was spent with my chin on the floor. When I got to the very end, I didn’t think there was anything left to give……I was wrong! I've purposely not mention specifics of the story as that ruins the whole point of reading the book yourself. What I will say is that KC has written quite possibly her best book to date! If violence, treachery and a no-holds barred story is what you’re after…Kimberley Chambers is the woman to give it to you!

Tainted Love –A Brilliant Gritty Thriller.

I have to disagree with many reviewers who say that you need to read the two books prior to Tainted Love by Kimberley Chambers. While having a more detailed knowledge of the characters in this book may be required by some, I do not think it is needed for others. This is a well written, well plotted, crime thriller, whose characters stand out, and there is plenty of background to them within the book.

The prologue opens with Queenie Butler packing her things up and finally leaving Whitechapel, her home over the years. Long time neighbour Stan asks Queenie where it all went wrong, which then takes us back to 1986, and the East End and its mean streets ruled by her two sons Vinny and Michael.

Michael and Vinny were not just ‘faces’ around the East End they were the East End as far as the locals were concerned, it was their manor. Nothing happened there without them knowing, nobody crossed them without being brought up before them, they ruled with a rod of steel and pure fear. Queenie and her sister Viv were the matriarchs of the family, loved by the family and also equally feared.

From 1986 to 2001 we are taken on a high speed tour of the family and how it could grow apart and then once again come together. We see both Vinny and Michael’s children also take their rightful place in the East End society. Dan and Lee were Michael’s boys, with Little Vinny and Ava, Vinny’s children. We see them get older and develop their own character; Ava cared for by Queenie with Fred her dog, who has a thing for Viv’s leg.

As the years pass we are able to see the very complicated relationship of brothers and cousins develop in interesting and competing ways. Dan the growing presence of the family while Little Vinny is the businessman of the next generation, and how the women of the family can see through all the men and get to the heart of the matter. If one was looking for marriage or relationship advice the last people you would be the Butler family.

The great thing about Tainted Love that it is hard to write a review and not reveal the plot, hence why I am unwilling to even give a guide to what happens between 1986 and 2001. One thing I will say that it is completely gripping, realistic and believable, especially when dealing with Whitechapel and the changes that came to the East End in the 80s and 90s. Those changes are also part of the problem for the Butler’s.

Undoubtedly Vinny is a nasty piece of work who you would not want to cross for any price and this screams from the pages, where his brother Michael is different but can get just as nasty if required. Watching the younger Butler’s develop is interesting and will no doubt carry on the Butler name in to the future.

Tainted Love is a fantastic book and I made me smile when I saw where the title came from, but that would spoil the plot. Anyone who has had a run in with Her Majesty’s finest and been near the type of circles the Butlers move in will recognise the characterisation of many they have come across in the Butlers. This might be set in the East End, but could easily be Salford, Moss Side in Greater Manchester or Northfield in Birmingham, St Paul’s Bristol, amongst many.

Kimberley Chambers really is a master of gritty crime fiction, she knows how to draw you in and like her villains grab you by the throat and only release you when she is ready to finish the book. Her writing is crisp and clear with no wasted bulking out of the story; her words are like bullets hitting the target every time.

My Review

Oh. My. God.

I say this when I start a review for Chambers books, particularly with this series but, I always approach with caution. Mostly because I am a big believer in always being honest in my reviews and I have loved the series so much, you question if she will actually be able to keep the pace up. Really needn't have worried and wish I had started it as soon as it arrived on the doormat. Firstly, if you haven't read the previous three books in the Butler series, go and buy them now. You can read this one as a stand alone but you do yourself a huge disservice, there is so much history already passed to this point, you NEED to read it to experience the whole saga.

The Butlers are no strangers to weddings and funerals, this book is no different. The truth will always out and you cannot out run your past, a few of the family are about to experience this! When the book first opens, Queenie is preparing herself for what is coming and passes comment on the bad luck her family seems to have. We then tear off back a decade or two and pick up not too far off where we left book three.

Vinnie senior hasn't changed much despite his years, Vinnie junior is seemingly a changed man but somethings you just can't leave behind & Michael is about to be tested to the limit. The family is full of drama and very much live by the sword, die by the sword, the time has come for debts to be settled but who will pay?

Honestly guys I could go on all day about this book, I gasped out loud more than once, accompanied by the words "Oh My God" and just when I thought the big reveal had happened, Chambers pulled another belter out of the hat. She leaves the reader begging for more and doesn't disappoint, in fact I would go so far to say she has surpassed herself this time. Most definitely this will be one of my best reads of 2016 and I cannot wait to see what is in store for the characters next! 5/5 for me, Chambers is fast becoming one of the most recommended names I give to people who are fans of the crime genre, particularly gritty and or gangster. Thanks so much to Fliss and HarperCollins for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. You can buy your own copy for all good retailers from the 11th of February 2016, that is only 10 days from now you lucky ducks, available in e book or print format.

This is the first book that I have read by Kimberly Chambers, and it is a sprawling, in your face, crime family drama. At times, I felt overwhelmed as the characters were all new to me, but there is a brief outline of some aspects of the backstory which I found useful. This is a thriller that is brimful of non stop drama. The East End Butler family are a powerful large family which has some very strong characters like Vinnie, Michael etc.. You would also expect them to have a vicious side, this is especially true of Vinnie. We have betrayals, revenge and huge secrets coming out and the whole gamut of emotions expressed in the book. Full of twists and turns, Kimberly Chambers has skilfully plotted a story that grips. Talk about complicated relationships! A thrill ride of a book. Thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC.

I’m a huge fan of Kimberley’s and couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of Tainted Love, lucky for me I was offered a review copy and jumped at the chance to get an early copy. Tainted Love is the fourth book in the Butler family series, and my god it’s the best one yet! If you thought the Butlers could not get more complicated, violent or treacherous then you are wrong!

This review is going to be difficult to write as I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so here it goes.
Kimberley has a natural gift for creating very colourful characters, that are larger than life, by the time you get to Tainted Love you feel like you know them all personally, foibles and all (and believe me they all have plenty of them!) they will make you laugh, cry, love and hate them, all in the space of a few minutes! The dialogue between the characters had me choking on my coffee at times, some of Kimberley’s one liners are original in their content to say the least, but if you don’t like swearing then you should give Tainted Love a wide berth, as there is plenty of it! For me I feel the swearing was in context with the plot and the characters, at times it’s very colourful, but also very funny.

The wonderful thing about reading Kimberley’s books is the sheer speed at which you are catapulted into the characters world, from the moment I read the prologue my heart was in my mouth and I found myself desperate to read more. In Tainted Love the Butlers are back! With vengeance, Vinny and Michael are the ultimate gangsters, who are likened to the Krays, they are dangerous, violent, and killing comes second nature to them! As an enemy from the past comes back looking for revenge for the Butlers past misdeeds, life for the Butlers will never be the same again. Add to the mix dark secrets and tainted love, and things threaten to spiral out of control, and ultimately destroy the Butler brothers’ bond once and for all.

As Tainted Love is the fourth book in this series, I had reservations KC would not be able to match the high caliber of her previous books, but bloody hell I was wrong, not only has she wrote another blinding book, but she has surpassed herself. This is a book stuffed with tension, violence, and treachery, which moves along like an express train, leaving you no time to catch your breath! Believe me when I say “you are in for a hell of a ride”. As the book reaches its climax I was left breathless, so much happens in Tainted Love I really felt I was on the worlds biggest roller coaster, my emotions were all over the place, as secrets are revealed that will change the Butlers life’s for ever.

The Butlers will stick with me long after I’ve finished Tainted Love, I was utterly bereft when I turned the last page, I felt I was saying “goodbye” to old friends. Kimberley Chambers has wrote her best book yet, with an original believable plot and fantastic characters, for me she is the “queen” of crime fiction, and I can’t wait for her next book, but unfortunately for us readers it won’t be out until 2017!

This is one of those books that I will probably remember all my life. The story is based around one infamous family in the East End of London from the 1980's to the present day. The matriarch of the family is the mother Queenie and she has two notorious sons called Vinny and Michael. These two men rule the East End by whatever means necessary while keeping other criminals down and maintaining their own reputation of respect to those who deserve it and striking fear into those that get on their wrong side. We see this family grow with children and grandchildren , not to mention the women and many criminal activities they are involved in. This was a remarkable story intricately weaving all the lives of one large family and their troubles together in one amazing saga. I recommend this to fans of all crime stories! Truly unforgettable !

OH GOD.... This has to be Kimberley Chambers Best book ever. I was so so excited to receive an early review copy of this book, It certainly made me feel good, I was buzzing from the moment I opened the package, and positively fit to burst by the time I got chance to sit down and start reading it. I have waited a year for this book, since The Wronged finished I just couldn't wait for this.. But I can now reveal that IT WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT, AND MORE...

We are back with the Butler family. One of those families you can't help but love, but glad you are not related to them.
If you are reading this book or thinking of reading it, It really is best that you read the 3 books before it, as It really will help you get the right feel for what is going on, and a background history of the characters.
And as I said with the last bookThe Wronged, I didn't believe Kimberley could match it, By god how this woman likes to prove you wrong. she's freakin smashed it with this book. And this book just show's why Kimberley Chambers is the favourite author of many, many people. She is certainly one of my all time favourite authors.
It felt a bit like a family reunion reading this book, like I was back with people I knew well, but hadn't seen for a while. And then the teary goodbye's at the end when you know you are not going to see them for a long time.
I loved every bit of this book, and I don't think my words will get across just how freaking good this series of books has been.

So We are back with Michael, Vinny, Mother Queenie and her sister Viv. And the rest of the not right dysfunctional family of Butlers. We see the kids grow, and the adults age. But some really don't improve with age.

You are given a brief history of characters and what they have done previously but as I said earlier it's so much better if you have read the previous books. There are quite a lot of characters to get to know and get used to, so really worth reading the books in order to understand the history and feelings between some of them.

Wedding's, Death, funerals, Births, Sex, Drugs.......... this book has it all, and mixed together makes a whole bit pot of Butler madness.
It's going to be hard going for Kimberley to better this book, But I'm sure she'll manage it, (No Pressure Kim)

As with the other books in this series I wanted to sit and read this in one sitting, but I paced myself to make the book last, all the way through I wanted to carry on, just keep reading that little bit more and find out what was happening and as usual you get near to the End and you just don't want it to finish..
I will admit, I had a tear or two in my eye's towards the end. And I certainly had a few OH MY GOD, NO! WHAT? I just loved the way this book went and the way it opened up new twists, and an awful lot you just don't expect. I could have happily read another 2 or 3 books in this series right after finishing it, as there was some things I wanted to know more about. But we'll just have to wait to re visit them hopefully one day.

I'm worried about going into the storyline to much as I fear I will end up giving to much away, but I want to scream and shout about this book, I want you to read it and enjoy it as much as I have, so I'm not saying any more about it other than, Go and treat yourself. Buy the bloody book.

It's going to be hard going to find a better book than this...

It's a great series. I love the way Chambers has incorporated the Mitchell's into this series.

Brilliant, Book 4

I read a few reviews that said this book was boring compared to the rest and had less violence well the author KC can't win some day it's too much some say not enough. Yes there is very little violence in this book but it doesn't stop the family going through yet another turbulent time and to be honest there were a few shockers that came out but i wont spoil it for you. This was book 4 and I wasn't disappointed at all and have voted all 5 stars up to now and absolute cracker of a series. Well done KImberley I am now starting the last book and then I look forward to reading some of your other work too.

Such a bitter sweet read. I knew this was the last book for the butler story and I really didn't want it to end so involved have I become in this families lives. I was devastated at Vivian's death and so sorry for poor Albi. But the biggest shock of all was Daniel and Roxanne, wow, what can I say? I really wasn't expecting that.
If you haven't read this series of books yet and your a fan of gangland its a must....I guarantee you will not be didapointed. Kimberley Chambers is a brilliant author and succeeds in bringing her books to life in your mind as you read, it takes a special kind of Author to do this....Moving on to the Mitchell's, Im really looking forward to sharing a great experience in their lives.

Tainted Love by Kimberley Chambers is the fourth book that features the Butlers. For some reason, I thought this was the last book, so was overjoyed that there is yet another book in the series of which I can't wait to read!

The Butlers' lives would give any of the television soaps a run for their money. Just as one family member finds happiness, something or somebody comes along to tear it all apart. I love these books and they never fail to have me gripped and waiting with baited breath to see what life is going to throw at them next.

The Butler's are back.

I didn't like this one as much as the others (The Trap, Payback and The Wronged). It was all about grandchildren and very repetitive. There were no revelations in it apart from Nancy being alive and a certain person's death which I could see coming a mile away. What about little Vinny - I thought that would come out in the wash. Decidedly average. Plus it's best if you read all 3 books first.

Reading a Kimberley Chambers book is like sitting down on the couch to watch a marathon of your favourite soaps. You can't put it down til you're finished. Tainted Love was no different. I absolutely loved it. Great seeing the family grow up and the storyline was excellent. 5 stars for me. Can't wait for the next one.

I've loved this series of books up to this one and don't get me wrong I love this one too but not as much. For me it jumped too many years too quickly and that meant some of the newer characters weren't fleshed out enough so you don't get to know them like you have in past books which is a great pity, it felt a bit rushed towards the end and not as detailed as I've come to expect & enjoy

This was all great edition to the series and I've just found out that there is another book in the series, happy days.
This continued where the last book left off and brought you right up to date with the Butler family. The ending was more explosive than I anticipated. I'm looking forward to buying the last book in the series and reading it.

After the beginning of a promising romance in Book 3, I found myself gunning for Michael and Bella’s romance. The trouble with Michael though, is he can’t keep his willy in his trousers and after fathering another child, you think he might settle down at last… until dear old Queenie chucks a spanner in the works! Be warned, the injustice when the truth comes about Vinnie out is infuriating. Mr. Golden Bollocks (love it when Viv calls him that) can do no wrong, yet Bella is a ‘whore’ never mind Michael’s lies and infidelity. In the meantime, Little Vinnie seems determined to become a better person, a good husband and father, yet comes so close to being rumbled when ‘that tape’ is found. I confess I did want him to pay, more out of sympathy for Jamie, (wrongly imprisoned for a monstrous crime he didn’t commit). But justice, it seems, does not prevail in this world. Furthermore, Vinnie’s attitude towards females continues to disgust me and why, oh why does this author deem it so necessary to include repetition after repetition of his sadistic sexual violence? Over-described more than any other sex scene in the series, it is irritating. My only other gripe was an unknown ‘enemy’ out for revenge at the start of the book, and another member of the Butler family murdered. That storyline just fizzled out for some reason and nothing was resolved. I can’t say I really liked the final twist before the end either. Incest? Oh Please! That said, however, I guess it’s called ‘Tainted Love’ for a reason.
