(Veronica "Ronnie" and Ralphie):
"Do you think you'll ever get married, man?"
"Don't know. Maybe. I kind of like the idea of having a missus." I grinned, my smile faltering as I pictured a sweet country girl with a Southern twang walking down the aisle toward me."

Nessa didn't cry...not until Ronnie stepped forward and started singing "Amazing Grace." Her voice was deep and rich with a soft huskiness that made my heart tremble. She stumbled over the first verse, sniffing at tears as she tried to wobble at the words.
Pressing a balled-up tissue into the corner of her eye, she sucked in a breath and kept going.
I loved her in that moment.
No matter where I ended up, I knew I'd love Veronica Sloan for the rest of my life...even if I could never be with her.

"How long are you staying?"
"For as long as you want me."
"That'd be forever, Ronnie."
"Then I guess Forever it is," she whispered, luring me to her mouth with a fiery look I couldn't refuse.
I crushed my lips to hers, drinking her in and making up for the four driest weeks of my life.

I really enjoyed this Novella it filled in some gaps in the Songbird time line.
Veronica come to LA to convince her sister to come back to the family farm as their mother is dying of Cancer. Angry Nessa doesn't want a bar of it but her sister refuse to come home without her.
Ralphie has always been in love with Nessa and is heart broken when she and Jimmie get together. However Veronica or Ronnie as Ralphie names her soon find her way into his mind and heart.
When the band show up at the family farm and its revealed that Ronnie lied to get Nessa there.
Will Ralphie stand with the women who stole his heart or the band that has become his family

This was a great short read! For once, it wasn't all about the rocker! Seriously, how refreshing it is to read about a young woman who is trying to help bring her family back together, falls for a rock guitarist who doesn't think everything revolves around him! Very refreshing!

Definitely a heart warming read!

I needed a quick light read today and this was perfect. I loved the story of the rockstar and the good country girl. The angst and drama behind the scenes with the mother and sister.
The story kept me entertained and the characters were fun.

A wonderful novella that fleshes out the romance of two minor characters in the Songbirds series. Excellent writing and a poignant love story, as per usual from Melissa Pearl.

Angel Eyes Review

Novella Rating: 5 stars out of 5.

Story Line: 5 stars out of 5. I really enjoyed this novella. I actually loved all of the characters in it. I love the members of the band Chaos. I first met them in the novel True Love. Nessa and Jimmy found true love. Now it's time for another Chaos member to fall in love with a girl of his dreams. I was excited to read this. I finished it in about four hours. I had to cook in the middle of reading it. I really didn't want to cook because of this novella.

The novella starts off with Nessa's sister, Veronica stopping by their mansion. Ralphie is the first one to see her. He lets her into the mansion. He mentions that the band doesn't like groupies. He thought that Veronica was one. Actually Veronica had some really sad news to share with Nessa. Her mother was dying and that she wanted to see her. Her mother had cancer. Nessa didn't take it well. She didn't want to see the woman that ruined her life. Her reaction actually affected her litle sister pretty badly. All her sister, Veronica, could do was cry. That upset, Ralphie, a bit. He didn't like seeing the beautiful girl crying.

Veronica would not leave without her sister. While waiting for her sister to finally agree, Veronica, started to bond with Ralphie. He made a gamer out of her. I love gamer girls because I am also a gamer girl. I also like that they bonded over movies. I found that to be sweet. They had a lot of the same interests. Ralphie also opened himself up to listening to her country music. I love when people are be able to adapt to each other. It helps them to get to know each other.

Eventually Veronica got Nessa to agree to go home to go see her mother. When they arrive in Mississippi, Nessa learns everything is a lie. Her mother was actually surprised to see her. She never asked to see her. Veronica brought Nessa their because she thought her mother would let go after seeing her eldest daughter. Nessa and Veronica make up. They go talk to their mother. Her mother feels awful for how she treated her daughter. After they made amends her mother passed peacefully. That moment actually made me cry.

Veronica and Ralphie take their romance to the next level. They don't want to part after Veronica and Nessa's mom's funeral. They are both really depressed. Veronica felt she had to stay to help her family. Her father let her go.

Characters: 5 stars out of 5. I'm only going to talk about the two main characters. I really loved them both which is a surprise. Lately the women in this series has been driving me nuts.

Veronica- She is really sweet. I love her so much. I saw her strength in this novella. She had to be strong for her family. She wanted to help her mother. She wanted to help her sister. She loved all of them deeply. You really could tell. I saw her passion to. She really loved Ralphie and I'm glad that they were able to come together in the end.

Ralphie- He was a really strong lead. I loved him. He had to get over Nessa. He had loved her first. He realized he had to let her go. I'm glad that he was able to find love. He fell in love with Veronica pretty fast. She felt the same about him.

Favorite Quote: "Sometimes doing what is right may appear wrong, but in the end the heart knows what it wants."

Writing Style: 5 stars out of 5. I just wish this novella was a little longer.

So, Veronica is an 18 years old girl from Mississippi who went to LA just to talk to her sister just so she could take her home and meet their mother. Her sister, Vanessa aka Nessa doesn’t get along with their mother and she doesn’t even want to meet her. Anymore. Even when Veronica says their mother is dying. She is just pigheaded.

I think the thing between the mother and Vanessa is that they’re both stubborn and their ego are eating them up. Even though the mother wants to meet Nessa, she doesn’t admit it and it makes me angry. Just.. be honest both of you and get over with everything between you! ugh…

Anyway, while Veronica is having hard times dealing with Nessa, Ralphie is always there. The one who secretly have feelings for Nessa but couldn’t be with her because Nessa and Jimmy are in love. It breaks his heart, but when Veronica comes into his life, he doesn’t feel hurt anymore towards Nessa’s and Jimmy’s relationship because day by day, he fall for Veronica. And so does her.

Veronica couldn’t resist the happy feeling when she’s with Ralphie. She knows that she shouldn’t feel that way and it feels wrong at that time, but she can’t help it especially when they are in the same house and always spend time together; watching Indiana Jones trilogy, playing Mortal Kombat.

I like that this story isn’t that depressing when it comes to that family drama and not too cheesy…. well there is one cheesy line I found that makes me snort. i.e. “I liked the sound of his voice. It was smooth and creamy, like melted chocolate on a hot fudge sundae.” Lol why is that so cheesy? Hahaha.

There is also something I want to talk about but that would mean spoilers so I better not. Peace..

I honestly cannot get enough of this series. So when Melissa announced she was doing the Novellas of the Chaos band members I was thrilled.

This is Ralphie's story.

Ralphie - who we met in True Love as the bass player for Chaos, has a secret crush on Nessa. Knowing Nessa and Jimmy have the ultimate love story, Ralphie never reveals his secret and never thinking he'd find another. He is surprised when he meets Roni - Nessa sister... I loved this book and enjoyed the look into Ralphie's life and found this a very sweet story. It was also good to get a little peak into Nessa's past. This was a fun easy read.

This has a decent storyline, but if you are looking for a clean, wholesome read, I suggest you try something else. If you like detailed sex, and language, this may be the book for you. This is not meant to be a reflection on the author's work, but unfortunately little things like this can be a deciding factor in what people will read. This can be good for some, bad for others, depending on reader's tastes.

There is nothing sweeter than first innocent love. Every minute of this novella will take you on an emotional journey where beautiful, kind hearted Ralphie meets the younger sister of his best friend Nester when she rocks up on their doorstep hoping to reconcile family drama.

It's a quick read, but still packs an emotional punch, with drama never far behind where the Chaos crew is involved. The playlist is exceptional and I was so happy to see Ralphie get his second chance at finding true love. As is par for the course with the Songbird series, I laughed, cried and was left feeling very happy at the end of it all.
