Being bullied and teased about his race was an ordinary part of seven-year-old David Kim’s day. Until Cece Walker stepped into the picture and stood up for him. After that, David chased his hero. He plied her with juice boxes and sweets until she finally gave in and became his friend. That friendship would span over ten years.
Now, David and Cece are about to embark on a new journey as young adults. Will their friendship span the test of time? Or will feelings get in the way of their bond?

This book was OK, but not my speed. It was definitely a book for young adults. The author wrote well and the story flowed. It just didn't draw me in. I would recommend this book to teens and not adults unless you like reading about high schoolers. I won't read the rest of this series because of this fact. I'm not interested in CeCe and David growing up.
It's a cute, clean beginning of a slooooooow burn romance between a Belizian-Chinese teen boy and a Creole girl. The book never misses a chance to remind you that they are "best friends". I enjoyed the characters and the obstacles thrown at them enough to follow it through the next three books.
💎Quote: “We were all different and it was better she learned that it was okay to be different now than to fear the things that made every culture and race in the world unique.”
𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆'𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆: CeCe & David is an interesting fast-paced read that I had planned to read for my challenge this year to read more Caribbean authors. I found the story to be interesting. It's a slow-burning romance between best friends who grew up together from age seven to become young adults. The story was filled with secret longing and wonderful chemistry. It was told in the POV of the MMC and you could feel the battle of indecisiveness he'd gone through. The story touched on race and being bullied.
Ꞇɑꮶɛɑᤐɑƴ: Always take time to get to know yourself. Don't keep hold onto relationships that you think will keep you safe while degrading yourself and making you unhappy. Being the odd one out in a society that's filled with scorn against race can be disheartening but standing up to the bullies and being comfortable is a strength of self-discovery that makes you stronger than you ever thought/
David and Cece best friends since childhood simply could not successfully make the transition to boyfriend and girlfriend even though it is plain to see they are in love with each other. The bully with the unrequited lust for Cece to the point he was willing to commit a hate crime if he was not allowed a date with her truly turned my stomach! The little girl Lacey who thought herself a better match for David than Cece because of her ethnicity needed to have gotten her behind beaten. Cece was a really special person with a huge heart for others. I am glad that she did not actually fight with the other girl because in hindsight, I think that was beneath the kind of person Cece is to act out like the other girl. It showed that although David's parents loved Cece other members of his community wanted him to stick with people of his own ethnic group. It was a little disappointing that the relationship between David and Cece never really progressed past best friends when I believe they would have been great together! Overall it was still an excellent read.
I thought this book would be a quick read about young love between friends. Sadly, the writer chose to add an extremely unacceptable conflict. Spoiler warning; the main character must chose between his cousin possibly being killed or his best friend possibly being raped and the author chooses to subject us to this young lady, described as a loving, genuinely kind person, being put in the path of a violent, abusive evil predator. We are suppose to just hope everything works out okay? Yet, the author describes the parents of both being great and supportive but the author never mentions the parents but throws this young lady directly to this horrible person. Such a disappointment that this writer portrays young women as bait without enough sense to avoid danger and a man who allegedly loves her to put her in that position. Shameful! This is not love of another or self love.
Cece and David are childhood friends exploring what it means to have your love for your best friend deepen and change in junior college. The story doesn’t wrap up at the end; one-because it’s realistic, and two-because this book is the start of a 4-part series.
I found this story intriguing. The friendship between the two main characters was interesting in its many shades as they matured and developed relationships with others. I look forward to the end of their journey and what their relationship will be at the end of the journey.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. There were some lulls that picked up. The author did a fantastic job of bringing all of the characters from the beginning to the end . Each character had their own story line. Great job! Looking forward to the next book.
The story had an amazing plot can’t wait to read the rest of the others books the author develop the characters very well and it was fun getting to know each and every single one of them.
This was an interesting read. The easy-to-read page-turning plot was fascinating. David, a main character, came into his own as he figured out how he wanted to have an HEA. Whether he gets there or not is a matter for the reader to find out.
I really liked the setting as I'm used to American, Britt or Aussies taking most of my romcom genre. I didn't like the clear lack of communication between these two old friends. Sometimes asking questions or saying what you mean can go a long way.
Yes I really enjoyed this first instalment of C and David's budding romance. Definitely a slow boil. But I like the pace and seeing their love grow, can't wait to read the next instalment.
This was not what I expected. It was ok but I think it is more so for teenagers than adults. It reads like a coming of age but throwing race and entitlement into it.
it was a cute little book, just wasn’t my fav. the first book of the series was free so i gave it a try. not sure if i will continue the series though.
Cece and David love for each other is what we all need. Their friendship was solid. They completed each other. Shawn Anthony got what he deserved. Lacey was most definitely obsessed. Thanks to the author for a excellent read.
