For originality of location of a zombie outbreak, this one had me sitting up and taking notice. Stuck underneath the English Channel between England and France when a power shut down stops the train, Sarah and a small group of survivors from a zombie outbreak try to get back home. The author really did a good job on this stand-alone story, which had a clear focus on the human condition in times of strife. Lots of emotion, not just blood and gore, although there was plenty of that. In addition, Cross also had no issues in killing off nice, likeable characters, often without warning.

I've noticed a few repetitive themes in these stories, since I'm binge-reading the author. Firstly, there's a lot of cell phone picture memories that are brought up in the first sequence of books, and then regretted in the second series, once cell phones are dead and the images can be retrieved only in memory. And second, interestingly enough, is that whenever a Stephen Cross zombie is set on fire, which apparently happens 'frequently and often' (one of my favorite expressions lately), their heads tend to explode in a shower of gore and bloody bits. I'm not sure how a lit zombie head suddenly becomes explosive, but it does. Maybe it's full of methane gas? :)

Frightening

Trapped in a train between London and France. The zombie Apocolypse has caused both countries to shut their borders trapping a train full people in a tunnel beneath the channel. Unfortunately the virus is in the train. See how a small group of people come together for survival.
