That was his plan.

Oookay... this book is such a mixture of good and bad. I give it four stars and will try to sort out one from another.
Bad firstly.
- The writing was extremely clumsy. It felt as if it were written by a precocious twelve year old. A talented twelve year old, though.
- The spelling was... unique. I don't think I've ever read a book - that was sold for money to people - with so many spelling mistakes. Like "disserve" instead of "deserve" and "ridged" instead of "rigid", to name a couple.
- I don't think the author has any idea how the investigation works. Which is strange, I mean there are so many TV series at least, if you don't want to read anything useful.
Now to the good things.
- I didn't want to DNF the book. Not ever not even for a moment. Which is, alas, more than can be said about 90% of the books I read.
- I felt extremely emotionally connected to Aaron. Through everything and till the very end. Now I need to say that I seldom read books with similar plot because I find them horribly upsetting. I feel connected to the victim - and there is where things often go wrong. I can't handle books where "bad guys" win and the victim stays in captivity forever - I just find them insanely frustrating. I don't like books where the victim is broken and starts enjoying captivity. Well, that's kinda what happened here as well - but it was different. Aaron had bigger balls than adult men in many slavery books - who just roll up and happily enjoyed being turned into slaves. Okay, the kid was not a fighter - he was a survivor, and it was absolutely clear that everything he had to do was to survive. Even letting go a part of his sanity.
I also find it striking that you almost don't realize how badly fucked-up Aaron is until the other prisoner appears. The contrast between the reactions of a normal person - and the nightmarish reality of Aaron's life is very... sobering.
- So while the author might not know how the police procedures work, I'd say she knows very well how human psyche works. It was a perfect and very powerful description of Stockholm syndrome.
- And - Stockholm syndrome WAS NOT used as an excuse to provide a happy ever after for the victim and the rapist. Thank you for that, dear author. Thank you.
- I cried a little near the end... in a quite unexpected place. I don't cry over every book.
- Sally. I don't know but the girl was amazing. She is the ray of hope in the darkness that, I feel, expects Aaron.
- And finally, the book reminded me Jeff Mann's "The Fog" a little. It's a good thing.
And now I have a sequel to read, and more pain for Aaron, I bet.
But I regret nothing :)

DNF @ 15%

where do I even begin?

Let's start with - badly written.
Next comes: 2 mature and experienced serial killers who weirdly become all tender and gooey over that one boy. Both of them turn 170% if not complete 180% in a matter of hours.
After that - real life/fantasy conflict. From severe anal bleeding and pain that magically disappears within hours and without so much as a smear of blood or a hint of a fever to a badly messed-up police work.
Another thing - the painful accent that was forced on poor people of this book. I am not sure what the author was trying to do, - make it sound like American South? O.o

This whole mishap reminds me of my very brief and very unfortunate run-in with Kol Anderson's book. Disturbingly similar (for me, not implying it's plagiarism) issues.

This was very hard for me to read.
The story itself is not for the faint of heart, there are so many red flags, the non con seems almost a sidenote.
The writing is unround and there are many editing errors. English is not my native language- and it bothered my so much! Threw me out of the story.
Don't think I'll read the second part.

W T F? This book was a very hard read. I had to set it down and walk away several times. It was really difficult reading. The subject matter was so dark it was like watching a bad car wreck. You want to look away because your horrified by what you’re seeing, but you can’t. Except for the grammatical errors it was well written. There are two books in this series. They were both free on Amazon so I got the complete series. I need a break for something light before I start book two. I do want to know what happens to Aaron, but it will be hard to go back to this bad place.

This is some dark, twisted, violent, depraved stuff. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there were a lot of typos that should have been caught.

I'm writing this review about a week after reading this book because I just... needed a minute to process what the fuck I just read. Books dealing with slavery make me intensely uncomfortable. I'm just cringing the entire time I'm reading this. And to know that this sort of thing actually goes on in the world? Ugh.

Warning: SPOILERS

So this starts with Aaron delivering a pizza to the two psychos that kidnap him and keep him as a slave. I can't remember their names right off, not that I'd want to, so they'll be Psycho 1 and Psycho 2. These guys are fuuuuucked up. They get off on torturing, raping, and murdering their victims. Usually they go for females, but one of them decides Aaron would be a nice change. So instead of killing him, they keep him as their pet.

What makes these villains stand out in my mind is their method of killing their victims. They don't simply cut their throats or shoot them. No, Psycho 1 ties a girl up, cuts out her intestines while she's still alive, and puts them on Aaron (who's also tied up) before raping him. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat the actual fuck.

I'll skip the rest of the gory details because it's better to just read the book and see for yourself, if that sounds appealing to you. I think that scene was one of the worst, so if you can handle all that, you can handle the book. Moving on.

They keep Aaron for about seven months, during which they put a collar on him and call him Eros. They use him as a sex slave. In their twisted minds, they are pampering him. They buy him video games and boy lingerie (whaaaaaaaaat the fuck), and he grows attached to Psycho 2. I guess how could you not after seven months of constant abuse. He does what he has to do to survive. I think that is important to remember here. HE DOES WHAT HE HAS TO DO TO SURVIVE. Psycho 2 is more careful with Aaron, and Aaron quickly sticks closer to him because Psycho 1 hurts him a lot more (and does twisted shit like cover him in blood). It was heartbreaking to read about Aaron being so thoroughly broken. By the end of the book, he's devastated when Psycho 2 is killed by the police, because he wants to stay with him. This got to me. A lot. I want to read book 2 because I want some semblance of a happy ending for Aaron, but at the same time I don't because I can't deal with how broken he is.

THANK YOU, author, for not turning this into some sick love story between captor and slave. I don't think there's anything I hate more than that, with a few exceptions. Aaron has stockholm syndrome, yes, but at the end he's away from his captors and he will get the help he needs (hopefully?). This was a good book and I'm glad I read it, but jesus fuck I need a shower now.

Gripped!

What a gripping captivating book! From the very first word to the last I was hooked on this book. The characters are so well written you can almost hear them when they speak. This book is hard to read at times but fascinating once you start it. Aaron is an average kid but when he is mistaken for a girl his life changes. Aaron decides to survive by accepting what is happening to him. His kidnappers Change his life but equally he changed the lives of the kidnappers. I was so surprised that I was torn about how I was feeling towards the characters. The end was a huge surprise and had me gasping and I was unable to put the book down and can't wait to get to the next one. Really enjoyable read and I can't recommend this book strongly enough.

Read this awhile back and enjoyed it, interesting read. Def different than the usual kidnapping/stockholm syndrome story, you don't know whether you want the kids to stay or go.
