Eagle's nest is a safe place. His parents keep him warm and bring him food. But soon the nest becomes crowded. When he looks out, he can see blue everywhere. His parents coax him to the edge of the nest. Eaglet is frightened.
Read it to the 2 & 3 year old grandchildren. A little too detailed for them, but as I paraphrases some pages, they enjoyed the story of the eagle leaving the nest. I am always looking for children's books that teach as well as entertain.
Nicely written, interesting, and informative. It could be just a nice story, or a non-fiction story. I LOVE bald eagles so I thought this was just great fun!!
While this book did discuss the journey of a young owlet from inside the egg to flying out of the nest, it was quite short on details about the actual eagle's life. A young reader could infer the appearance of the owlet in comparison to his/her parent eagles, the diet of the owlet, and it's time in nest before flying, but other simple items could have been added in to push this book up on students' cross-curricular reading lists. (For example, where does the eagle live? How big are their nests? Did the owlet have any siblings? and so on.)
I read this book in connection with our city's Eagle Days event, held in mid to late January, and discussed some facts I knew from outside of the book about eagles. The book was a nice complement to already-known information about eagles, but it doesn't work as a sole, standalone book in my opinion.
Oliver can't get through "Eaglet's World" yet. He flips the book closed about halfway through. We'll try again when he's a little older. (Oliver is currently almost 2.)
