Zoe Jensen is the typical all American girl. She is beautiful, a cheerleader and her boyfriend Dylan is the star of the basketball team. Char is the cheer captain, beyond gorgeous and has one thing on her mind- to be prom queen. Imagine Mean Girls meets Pretty Little Liars meets Clueless. You won't believe what these girls will do to claim the precious title. Cheating, lying, rumors and add in a super hot bad boy ~ who really shakes things up!! ~ and it's a recipe for disaster!! How far will these girls go to claim the title?? You will have to read to find out, but I promise you you won't be disappointed ;)

So I have been dying to read this book since the author published it but I wasn't able to buy it until just recently. I am so glad I did. I absolutely devoured this book pretty quickly! A group of teenage cheerleaders dealing with school and most importantly prom. You know something is just going to happen! Zoey is a good girl so to speak which I truly liked to see that in a book it is not all about sex for every character. We actually have a teenager that is a VIRGIN!!! That to me screamed awesome.

Zoey is in love with her amazing boyfriend and she is just waiting for that right time when she is ready. That time is suppose to be prom but when things start going crazy Zoey learns who has her back and where are true friends are in everything.

Throw in the bad boy who isn't really all that bad well we get to see Zoey grow in this book! There is some high school drama and boy it is some drama.

One thing that bothered me with the book was the scene with Mila and how she had it out for a character. There didn't seem to be an problems between the two so it threw me off a bit, but didn't affect the rating.

As far as characters went I liked them all especially Zoey. I think the fact of how hard working she was in school, to not letting the others influence her to their behavior was great. That is how some teenagers are and I think the author really did a great job with showing this.

For this to be written by a male author he was on point with the drama, the different situations, and more importantly the characters!!!

I had the pleasure to ARC read before release, in exchange for an honest review. Published in July 2016, the novel blends drama, romance and quirky teenage lives in this novel described by others as 'the Hunger Games of prom'. There may be spoilers.

Huge thanks to Joseph Hunt for sending me this copy - it's not a type of book I normally read, so this was a nice change of pace for me!

The cover is great - a pouting young girl, tanned and sleek with large sunglasses on her face. Although the reflection in her sunglasses is not the landscape around her or anything like that. No, it's a glittering prom queen crown - something that she wants.

The novel follows Zoey Jensen, a cheerleader in her final year of study at Marin County High School. Zoey gets good grades, she majors in Art classes, has a close circle of girl friends, has a basketball playing boyfriend... She has everything she could possibly want, until someone mentions prom. This is something that she now wants - wouldn't it be better than winning the cheer competition, or sneaking into dive bars? She will stand queen with her boyfriend, and cement their relationship by losing her virginity to him. The only problem is that everyone and anyone is vying for the crown. It doesn't help either that her Christian parents have invited a damaged young boy to stay with them either...

Marin County High School sounds and reads like every high school in America - it's nothing out of place, but at the same time, this cements the book in our reality. We know from television shows, films and books who we are likely to encounter here. So naturally, there is the popular cheerleader clique, whom Zoey is part of. There are her friends, these are who she is going to take on in the run up to prom.

Zoey is written well - she is experiencing those pangs of being a teenager, and entering into adulthood, although there are at times, I personally didn't like her. That being said though, I did identify with her - she is an outsider amongst the circle of friends, she has been hurt, she studies hard. It isn't until through the novel that Zoey changes, and she sees that maybe her little sister shouldn't be in a hurry to grow up so fast, and that she can and will run for being a queen. She will do anything it takes in the run up campaigns, anything to be on the ballot paper.

That being said, prom in the UK is not a huge deal. Yes, you get to party with friends, in a gorgeous dress, arrive in fancy cars and see someone be crowned, but as Cady Heron once said... "It's just plastic..."

That being said, the book is a good read - lots of drama, with pop culture references galore, as well as a sweet romance. A standalone read, it has no cliffhanger ending. It was something different for me, and that made it all the more enjoyable!

I was fortunate to be sent a copy of this as an ARC for an honest review.

To tell the truth I was not expecting this to be as good as it was, but I found I really quite liked it. The author Mr Joseph James Hunt (yes that's right, a male author) clearly managed to do his research into the life of teenage cheerleaders and their goal of becoming Prom Queen. Maybe he did get help from sisters or female friends but the story is told well. I think many teenagers and young adults will love this.

At first the cover did not seem to connect with the story of the cheerleaders, I looked at it and thought I was going to be delving into the disastrous lives of girls reaching maturity, fighting to become Prom Queens and then perhaps movie stars. However, as I read on and the girls and boys began to develop into young adults it seemed to fit a whole lot better.

Worth reading if you like to delve into the lives of students finding out where they fit into the world and their struggles to get there, over the many hurdles set before them.
