Skeleton Dolls: Children of the Tower

Rate this book
Identical twins Jennifer and Camille Johnson have spoken their own language-twin speak, some call it- since they were toddlers. But the secret of their mysterious incantations predates the Flood back to the Tower of Babel. After raising a childhood friend from death on national television, they face ridicule and fame from both their fans and their enemies. Reviled by the Church as fallen angels, they pay the price when they resurrect the wrong man, an assassinated terrorist who is bent on revenge. The devastation and destruction that follows is almost more than they can bear.

Pursued by Ray Watts, an investigator who is interested in them for more than their special powers, these lovely young ladies must go to the ends of the earth to escape his obsession. Only by seeking the help of a most unlikely group of people can they find peace, and perhaps discover their purpose among the people of earth.

Skeletons Dolls is the story of Maggie and her twin daughters Jennifer and Camille. They're a family of hardworking farmers just barely making ends meet. As twins, naturally they hold a special bond, but they're not ordinary twins. They also possess a special gift passed down from Maggie's blood line. Maggie tries to keep her daughters' gift a secret, but eventually the truth comes out. Others hear of their special gift and want to help them and others just want to use them. The story takes you on their adventures as they seek to help their family and find the truth of their gift, where it comes from, who else posses the same powers. The story is very unique, it ties to mystery, theology, geography and action. I enjoyed reading Skeleton Dolls and recommend this book to other readers.

Synopsis: Jennifer and Camille Johnson are twin sisters that have been able to speak their own language ever since they were toddlers. One day when they are 13 years old one of their oldest friends has an accident. And it’s what the sisters do next that surprises and shocks those that live in their small town and brings them a lot of attention.

I enjoyed reading this book. According to the author this is a true story he heard from twin friends of his which makes it all the more interesting. All in all the storyline was interesting. The story is about the Johnson twins with special powers but it starts with their mother Maggie who seems to have some powers of her very own. Maggie has a way with animals she can “hear” what they are saying. She isn’t completely sure why but apparently it is always something that she has been able to do.

While she was pregnant with the twins she sometimes would hear female voices pointing her in the right direction so to speak with her daily tasks. She asks her mother about an aunt that she had named Gretchen who was known to be a little crazy and could communicate with spirits and animals. She was also known to possibly be able to bring back the dead which caused her family to pretend that she didn’t exist.

Without giving too much away the twins were special from the moment they were born. They spoke in their very own language and they too seemed to be able to understand animals. They took especially well to an old horse named Luke. How they helped Luke is an amazing story within itself. The story grows as the girls grow they are clearly destined for something that nobody can see coming. This book is YA friendly, its well written, and quite the page turner. I think you will really enjoy it so give it a chance.

Skeleton Dolls is different from any other book I've read. It takes the reader on a wonderful journey that it's almost impossible to put down.
This book touched on many different issues including religion, being 'different', love, healing, and exploitation. I can't list everything in this review, but those are a few.
I truly enjoyed reading this and I'm looking forward to future books with more of the twins' adventures.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review through Booktasters.
