What You Do To Me, the 1st book in The Haneys series was a lovely read. Barbara Longley did an amazing job at grabbing my attention and getting me invested not only in the main couple but in the lovable secondary characters as well. Everyone in this book felt so realistic and down to earth. The plot was very sweet and at times funny. Sam the sexy handyman, was a hot mess of a hero but he was so charming and endearing at the same time. I loved the whole sexy handyman/construction worker theme going on in this book. I just keep hearing the Fifth Harmony song Work playing in my head as I read.
Sam had deep emotional issues because his parents died on his 15th birthday. So now Sam won't let new people in his heart. He doesn't want to lose someone else he loves. His commitment issues made him look like a playboy, but he really was sweet, caring, and an all around great guy. His fear of loss and vulnerability made me want to cuddle him and make it all better. Haley's ex did her so dirty. He up and left her 2 weeks before their wedding without telling her why. So it was understandable that Haley would be standoffish with Sam the commitment phobe, player. At first Haley came off a little snobbish and prissy, but I warmed up to her right away. Once Haley opened up she was a very playful and sweet.
Sam and Haley had a slow burn love. They both fought their attraction to each other for fear of being hurt. There was a nice relationship build up and some really sweet moments between Sam and Haley. They made a cute couple. Let me just say that I loved Sam's brother Wyatt. Wyatt grabbed my heart and I fell in love with his shy sweet self. I have a thing for scarred men so the fact that Wyatt has burns that made him super shy just melted my heart and made me long for his story! I also liked Sam's sister, and Haley's two best friends too. There was a little drama from Sam's fear of losing another person he loves, but for the most part his book was a lighthearted, easy going, low angst read. The epilogue was sweet and I liked the little peek at Wyatt's upcoming book. I can't wait to get my hands on Wyatt's book!

This was just an alright read for me. It's not that the book wasn't good. It's actually sweet, well-written, and at times funny, but it just fell a little bit short and predictable for me.
Sam Haney, a handyman who works at Haney & Sons Constructions, became popular at their local place in Minnesota when one of his clients (a woman he had an affair with while working for her) revealed on the radio show that he was an awesome lay. Women suddenly got interested with him-- including Trudy who immediately hired him to work for her daughter named Haley Cooper. Trudy wanted Haley to move on and fall in love again after her heartbreak with her ex-fiance so she thought hiring Sam to fix Haley's house would be a bright idea. But when the two finally met, Haley recognized Sam as the one who was featured on the radio show and she immediately disliked him due to his notorious manwhore reputation.
I didn't like Haley at first. I thought she was a snob, judgmental, and high and mighty woman. Her first encounter with Sam was a disaster. It was in the later parts of the book when I finally warmed up to her because there was certainly a character development in her. Sam, on the other hand, was an okay character. He was nice to everyone and despite what happened to his parents, he knew exactly how to handle his issues.
Everything in this book was just okay. While it was written decently, I didn't feel a 100% connection to the story and the characters. Their love story was okay but I wasn't that much thrilled about what is going to happen to them. It could be a spectacular novel if there was a little bit of angst or twist or anything that could spice it up.

2.5 Sweet Stars

What you do to me is one of those feel-good books that are perfect summer reads, when you're laying on the beach, not a care in the world but a double mohijto on the sand next to you.
It was really well written, the only style complaint being the eccessive italics-ed words. Ten or so every page is too much, especially since nothing here spells purple prose.
The story is indeed endearing. Haley has been dumped two weeks before her wedding day and is now groveling and "renovating" her house (read: unleashing her womanly fury on the walls)...

so her mother puts on the shenanigan of the century to have her leave the slump she's let herself slip into.
Enter Sam Haney, self-professed handiest-handyman of the Twin Cities.
Sam was probably my favorite character, because he was both sweet, but also "real". Even if the narration is a third person one, it switched between characters, and his thoughts depicted a pretty realistic image of a guy's mind, at least IMO. Anyway, he was also kind of a little fucked up. Nothing major, since as I said, this is the perfect beach book. But still, the guy's got issues. Oh, and did I mention that he's seriously hot? No? Well, now you know.
Their story was the slow burn of the century. They let it simmer for a very long while before yielding, and even after that, it wasn't all puppies and unicorns. In fact, there were a couple of kind of depressing sections too that reduced the endorphin levels in my body more effectively than a the ice bucket challenge.
So, you'll be asking, why am I been so avid with the stars? Well, this is not really my type of books. It didn't qualify as "funny" the way a Clayton's or a Curtis' books would, and it was a little too... uneventful at times. Because overall it was a nice novel, but it kind of fell flat with me.
Anyway, I'm sure that in the hands of a reader more attuned with the genre, it will be more appreciated.

I liked this book and had a lot of fun with it. I really didn't know a whole lot about the book but when I saw that it was offered through Prime Reading at Amazon, I decided to give it a try. It was a really quick listen for me and I was able to get through the whole book in just a couple of days. It wasn't perfect but it had some really great moments that made the overall experience quite enjoyable.
One thing that I had to get past with this book was the initial set up. Sam becomes well known as the handyman offering a few more personal services. I was quite amused by how things started until Haley's mother got involved. Haley's mother sends Sam to work on Haley's house and requests his personal touch. What mother does that? Every mother I know would do everything in their power to prevent such a thing from happening. It just felt odd to me but I went with it and just had fun watch Sam and Haley.
I really liked Sam and Haley together. They both had some pretty big issues to work through and I thought that they were really good for each other. I love how Haley confides in Sam and takes his advice. Sam really had a hard time opening up to other but he was very drawn to Haley. I wish that Sam could have worked through some of his issues a little quicker and saved both of them some heartache but everything worked out in the end.
I think that this is the second time that I have listened to Teri Clark Linden and I thought she did a good job with the book. Her voice was very pleasant to listen to for hours at a time and she was able to bring a lot of emotion to the story. I thought that the character voices that she used were all very well done. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more of her work in the future.
I would recommend this book to others. It was a fun romance that had the happily ever after that I wanted to see. This was the first book by Barbara Longley that I have had the chance to read but I look forward to more in the future.

So the initial set up for the story is a little odd but kind of funny. The book kind of grew on me as I listened to it. Sam and Haley were adorable together. I didn't completely get Sam's reasoning when it came to avoiding relationships but everything worked out in the end. This is only the second time that I have listened to Teri Clark Linden's narration and it did take me a while to get used to her with this book. I would probably rate this one 3.5 stars but am rounding up for now.

This was an ok/nice easy read, and an accidental re-read at that.
The story was overall a well written one, it was also a sweet one, and at times funny. Be warned despite Sam the hot handyman having one hell of a reputation and being quite a hot mess, this book is a SLOW BURN romance. Sam has been hired by Haley Cooper’s mum to help her with some work on Haley’s house, but more importantly she has hired him to help Haley move on – but the initial meeting is anything but good. I must say I liked the fact Haley didn’t simply fall at Sam’s feet. That being said I wasn’t overly keen on Haley’s mum

Sam Haney of Haney & Sons Construction got his hands full with ladies whenever he did what he do best, being a handyman who repaired and fixed houses. His reputation was made known after a lady sang her praises about his special touch over a radio program. Oh man, suddenly all women want to experience this handyman's expertise, first hand.
When Haley's mom Trudy Cooper heard about Sam's handy services, she thought she'd help out her daughter go back to the dating pool after a disastrous breakup with her ex-fiance. Haley had no idea what her mom had signed her up to. Until she met the man everyone in Twin Cities had been talking about.
I liked the story as it progressed. Although the attraction was instantaneous, the romance went nice and slow. Sam proved he wasn't what everyone thought who he was. I just didn't like his panic attack issues because as a condescending adult, he should know that he will always got his family's back to matter what. Well, I don't really understand about panic attacks because I've never experienced it, so please forgive me for my ignorance about the matter.
Case in point, Sam's character as a man who didn't do relationships had come a long way ever since he met Haley. I liked that girl. I thought she was as realistic as she could get. Haley was understandably aloof after her one and only boyfriend had dumped her a few days before their wedding. I get why she wanted to take the backseat first before dipping into the dating pool again.
You see, you've got to read the whole book from start to finish to appreciate the depth of the story and understand how the characters turn things up. While it is true that Haley's mom wasn't really that likable character, what with all her meddling into her daughter's affairs and stuff, she still became a catalyst to the brewing romance between Haley and Sam, and one of the reasons why our handyman turned over a new leaf.
Renovations, do-it-yourself tips, faces blotched in red, sledgehammer swinging in one hand and snowmobile on the other, these are just some of the things I loved about the book.
Barbara Longley's first book in this series got me feeling like a fool. I laughed a lot with Trudy's meddling antics, I loved the Haney family, I'm intrigued with Hoodie Guy Wyatt and I love imagining Chris Hemsworth as Sam Haney. Yum!

Verdict: Ok, so I am definitely in the minority because this just was not my cup of tea. For the first time in a long time, I put the book down after only a couple of pages and had very little interest in picking back up again. Just something about the premise rubbed me the wrong way. So, Sam the book's hero, is a handyman who likes to be a little too handy if you know what I mean. He claims he only goes after women who come onto him, and everyone who participates are consenting adults. No really, he doesn’t see anything wrong with giving the ladies a little special one-on-one time after he does a job. So how Sam ends up bumping into Haley, our heroine, is that one of his former clients goes on the radio to talk about the sluttiest thing they’ve done, and they talk about him. Sam goes and calls the radio station in a huff. And of course everyone in the Twin Cities is tuning into that particular radio station and listens to Sam’s philosophy on giving his clients a something little special. So what then happens? Haley’s mom hears Sam talk on the radio about his exploits and thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to make her daughter not so blue by by hiring Sam to handily fix all her ills. Yep, our heroine’s mother just pimped her own daughter out in the hopes that she will have a good time. Like I said, not my cuppa.

God, I loved this book so freaking much!
What You Do to Me is another dual POV from Sam and Haley. Sam is a super good handy man, for both his job and his other job. Read the book and find out what I really mean because I'm trying not to spoil it! Then there's Haley, who is against love right now because of the last guy who trampled on her heart days before their wedding day.
I felt so bad for Haley and I laughed so hard when her mom and aunt tried to set her up with Sam. This book made me laugh and swoon so hard. BUT then the ending, oh man the ending. Okay, well before the ending I was so mad at Sam. Trust me you will be too when you read it.
However, he definitely makes it up to me and Haley, but mostly me. IF he didn't do what he did at the end then I probably wouldn't want to read the second book in this series. However, I'm going to read the second book in this series. I just hope no one does what Sam did. PLEASE.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to people to read or listen - whichever floats your boat. You'll enjoy it (I hope!).

3.5 Stars - 3 Flames
Well now. We've got ourselves a male slut who gets called out and "then" wants to do something about it. Did that get your attention? It should. It's not everyday we get to read about a man whoring it up and then realizing it might be a bit too much. Ok, ok, that's not EXACTLY what this is about, but it starts off this way, but we end up getting a whole lot more.
Sam couldn't help himself. While listening to his favorite radio show, he felt he needed to "justify" himself after a client called in to talk about her experience with her handyman, Sam. Unfortunately for him, he only made it look worse than it was and now he's got some cleaning up to do since it's his family business' name that's been thrown out there. Haley needs help. Ever since her fiance left her, she's been trying to renovate her home during her spare time, but nothing seems to be getting accomplished. After Haley's mom hears the radio show, she decides to give her daughter an early birthday present. Yes, her mom pimps her out. We'll get back to that later.
Once Sam and Haley figure out that they've been set up and work through a few kinks, the story really starts to develop into quite a story. Although there is an initial attraction between the two, Sam is so determined to prove that he's a good handyman without the "special services", that it takes a while for anything to really happen romantically. Between Sam's issues with loss and Haley's issues with loving again, it wasn't that surprising it took so long. Throw in a meddling mother and, well, you get it. But it's worth it in the end. This is the first book I've read from this author. I thought that the flow of the story was pretty good and the change between the POV's wasn't distracting. Overall it is a nice start to a new series. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

Well now. We've got ourselves a male slut who gets called out and "then" wants to do something about it. Did that get your attention? It should. It's not everyday we get to read about a man whoring it up and then realizing it might be a bit too much. Ok, ok, that's not EXACTLY what this is about, but it starts off this way, but we end up getting a whole lot more.
Sam couldn't help himself. While listening to his favorite radio show, he felt he needed to "justify" himself after a client called in to talk about her experience with her handyman, Sam. Unfortunately for him, he only made it look worse than it was and now he's got some cleaning up to do since it's his family business' name that's been thrown out there. Haley needs help. Ever since her fiance left her, she's been trying to renovate her home during her spare time, but nothing seems to be getting accomplished. After Haley's mom hears the radio show, she decides to give her daughter an early birthday present. Yes, her mom pimps her out. We'll get back to that later.
Once Sam and Haley figure out that they've been set up and work through a few kinks, the story really starts to develop into quite a story. Although there is an initial attraction between the two, Sam is so determined to prove that he's a good handyman without the "special services", that it takes a while for anything to really happen romantically. Between Sam's issues with loss and Haley's issues with loving again, it wasn't that surprising it took so long. Throw in a meddling mother and, well, you get it. But it's worth it in the end. We get to meet additional characters along the way that I thought really helped the story. I can't wait to read more about Wyatt!

Cute and funny story. When Sam Haney is ousted on a radio show as being more than handy on his job locations, his popularity as Mr. Fix It grows. Haley Cooper has been jilted by a fiancee who not only left prior to the wedding, but actually left the country. Her mother, the meddling Trudy Cooper, wants Haley to move on and after hearing of the adventures of Mr. Fix It on the radio concocts a hare brain idea to lure Haley back into the dating scene.
Haley realizes her mother's scheme and lets Sam in on the fact. The two decide to work together and fix up Haley's house and shock Trudy in the process. Problem is, these two start to spend time together and enjoy being around one another. Could it be more than a friendship? Could it be love? Problem is, Sam Haney doesn't do love. Unbelievable!
I read a lot of bizarre tropes, but this one was my first.
A mother who wants to set up her own daughter with a biggest manwhore in town whose slutty ways are well known to everyone (thanks to the radio show)! He literally slept with almost every second woman in town.
A handyman who bangs his clients. Perfect son-in-law?!
And what a decent woman with a self-respect would want to be with a man who had sex with a half of small town population?
It's disturbing and immoral!

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher, Montlake Romance for an ARC of "What You Do to Me" by Barbara Longley. I found this book to be an entertaining and enjoyable read that I can recommend. The characters are likeable and had relatable flaws. The author uses subtle humor and shows growth in the characters., and the importance of family and love. This is an easy summer romance novel to enjoy. I look forward to other books in this series.

3 solid audio stars
The narrator need to work on changing up her voices. But I liked the story. I didn't think it was too repetitive and the ending was HEA as I like.
What I enjoyed most was the large cast of characters. I can see the set up to continue the story with each family member. And I'll be looking forward to reading those.
This was the older brother Sam and how he went from being a horn dog to someone worthy of staying with. I liked the construction aspect, but a little too much detail for me with that. Overall Cute fun book.

This was a fun book to read, because really how could it not be with how the book opened. I loved how all the characters were listening to the radio, each looking forward to the question and boy was it a dozy. It was all in fun until Sam realized he was the answer to a caller. It's easy to see why Sam would want to call in to refute and things would have been fine with no blow back, but he messed up and gave his full name. Now he has a rep from the radio, one that disappoints his family and causes him to think. From here all sorts of high jinxs happen, including a mother that went just a step too far.
I thought the rest of the book was pretty predictable, I didn't mind that. I liked seeing Haley shoot Sam down, Sam being a bit stunned and how by fixing Haley's house their feelings grew. Even Sam's panic was predictable. I liked that he owned up to it as he tried to explain things to Haley on why things wouldn't work and how he was sorry. Stupid man, thinking that would make it all better, that they could be friends. Haley did a great job of explaining what he was hoping to escape was happening now, sort of stunned Sam, more as he was able to see Haley move past him and get on with her life.
The final gesture for Sam to get Haley back was perfect, showed her he listed to her and what was important to her. A perfect ending for these two. I look forward to reading more about the Haneys.

This was a fun story. The narration was good the characters was fun. Definitely worth the read.

I felt this was a little rushed—there were quite a few time jumps to move the story along, but I really loved the romance in What You Do To Me and the characters were absolutely wonderful! I loved the romance, thought this story was super funny, and just downright adorable! I loved Haley and Sam, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing them again when I read the next book in the series which follows Sam’s brother, Wyatt!
If you have a soft spot for romances featuring handy leading men like I do, then I think you’ll like this one! ;)

I love Barbara Longley’s time travel books and decided to see if she was equally compelling a writer in contemporary romance. She certainly is! I thoroughly enjoyed What You do To Me and look forward to the next in this series. I’ll start reading it soon. The romance between Haley and Sam was touching, warm and sweet with just the right touches of heat for a well-rounded luxuriant read. Highly recommended!

Dieses Buch war ein sehr unterhaltsamer und humorvoller Liebesroman, der aber auch seine stillen und tiefer gehenden Momente hatte. Die Geschichte ist witzig erzählt und die Autorin bedient sich eines lockeren und flüssigen Schreibstiles, so dass die Story schnell und vor allem leicht lesbar und nachvollziehbar ist. Die Charaktere haben ihre eigenen starken und schwachen Momente, ihre Erinnerungen mit denen sie sich arrangieren müssen und ihren Weg finden damit umzugehen und daran zu wachsen. Der Geschichte fehlt es dennoch nicht an Humor und Spritzigkeit und den Leser erwartet eine romantische und gefühlvolle Liebesgeschichte. Es gib in diesem Buch eigentlich keinen Charakter den man nicht mag auch wenn man vielleicht die Handlungsweisen von dem einen oder anderen hin und wieder in Frage stellen mag. Besonders interessant fand ich auch die Geschwister von Sam, die sicher noch ihre eigenen Geschichten zu berichten haben werden. Was mich vielleicht noch gefreut hätte, wenn man diese Sache mit der Radiosendung zum Ende hin vielleicht noch einmal ins Spiel gebracht hätte, sozusagen als krönenden Abschluss, denn alles begann ja damit und daher wäre es vielleicht witzig gewesen dies noch einmal aufzugreifen. Aber auch so war das Buch sehr lesenswert und unterhaltsam. Sehr gut geeignet für einen gemütlichen Abend im Bett eingekuschelt. Ich habe dem Buch sehr gute 4/5 Sterne gegeben.

If you are looking for a book to give you a good laugh, then WHAT YOU DO TO ME is one you want to take a look at. It's lighthearted fun, sweet and very entertaining.
Sam Haney is a handyman who is a very handy man, if you know what I mean and is certainly not averse to give his clients more bang for their buck. An ill-advised response from him to one of his client's discussing their liaison on radio makes him infamous, not necessarily in a good way, but you can't help laughing. Who calls a into a radio show to protest being called a womanizer? A man child is who! And Sam is exactly that, from the way he dresses to his lifestyle and his dislike for relationships. He's also charming and his fun-loving and sunny outlook makes it hard to stay angry at him. But Sam may have met his match in Haley Cooper.
Dumped by her fiancé a couple of weeks before their wedding, Haley has really not had much to laugh about lately. Instead, she's been trying to rebuild her life, starting with remodeling the fixer upper she and her ex had bought together that was now hers, but she's woefully out of her depth. But mama knows best and when her mother gifts her with a contractor to help her complete the work, she doesn't know that he comes with extra perks. Enough to say that that first meeting does not go as planned.
Sam for all his Peter Pan-ish ways, has emotional hang-ups from his past and is not willing to let anyone into his heart but Haley intrigues him like no other woman ever has and even he can see the change in his life after meeting her. But with both of them unwilling to open up to love again, where does that leave them?
Okay, I had a really good time reading this book and it has a lot to do with the secondary characters too. Haley's mom is straight up crazy. Who hires a handyman and requests the special for her daughter? A meddling mother and I can't stop laughing or cringing about that. I also enjoyed Sam's family and Haley's friends. This was so much fun and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for and easy and enjoyable read.

After Haley's fiancee moves to Indonesia before their wedding, Haley's mother thinks she needs a pick-me-up. So she calls Sam Haney, a sexy handyman that also sleeps with his female clients. Haley has no idea who Sam is, so she's more than surprised when he makes a move. Sam is embarrassed that he mistook business for chemistry, and now that Haley questions his work ethic, he needs to show her that he really is one of the best handymen in the Twin Cities. But working with each other in a strictly platonic manner is hard, especially when sparks are flying.
I really liked the idea of this one. I knew from the summary that it wouldn't be an intense or even emotional romance, but a fun read. And although I didn't expect much, I was more than a little disappointed in this one. First of all, I felt the writing wasn't well edited and the writing didn't flow well, which constantly took me out of the story. It was also hard to like Sam as a character, since he was something of a man-whore, who didn't seem to take his job seriously. And although he tried to prove that he could do his job, it was hard to root for him because of his lack of morals, and I continued to question whether he could be faithful to Haley.

I really liked the idea of this one. I knew from the summary that it wouldn't be an intense or even emotional romance, but a fun read. And although I didn't expect much, I was more than a little disappointed in this one.
