Glory #1

Genesis

Rate this book
This is the first book in the new paranormal fantasy series Glory.

Genesis and her sisters are the last of her maternal line, the last of the stargazers – except she is a dropout in the energy worker talent department.

Gentle, non-assuming Genesis Chandler is supposed to be protecting the woods, as is her nature – she's an energy worker – but since Granny's death and her sisters leaving town, she's lost sight of much in her life. While she was living with blinders on, someone else took advantage.

Connor has been called in to investigate the sacred forest. Something odd is happening to the reserve, and it's affecting the town's energy source. That also means it's connected to the sacred pools. He's got energy problems himself and needs Genesis to get to the bottom of this problem.

Genesis has no love for Connor. His fault. He loved her and left her, not realizing he'd left the best part of himself behind – his heart.

Can they work together to find out who is destroying their energy reserve – a resource that's key to the life of all who live on Glory?

Their survival depends on it.

I was given an ARC of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. That fact is the only reason I finished it. From the first few pages, this book was agonizingly bad and in any other situation this would have gone on the DNF pile in a heartbeat.

But I refuse to unfairly review something I haven't completed, so I soldiered through this train-wreck of a story. And now I'd like to wrap some caution tape around the scene to warn others from blundering into this or paying money for it.

The writing is stunted and juvenile and if an editor has even looked at this before it was published, they should be ashamed. It reads like a highschool freshman's creative writing project crossed with the worst fan-fiction you have ever read. That is to say, borderline unreadable.

The book was sent my way because it is ostensibly "sci-fi". But I'm not sure where that comes from except the occasional reference to the fact that the characters are not on earth but on a 100% earth analog planet called "Glory". Everything important about the planet happens in one tiny little segment of town and forest that the characters never leave. Oh, and also they have hover crafts that take the place of cars, so directly that it feels like the author did a find-and-replace for the two terms. (Hover crafts have front and back seats, travel along roads, and are audible pulling up outside your house)

Everything else about this book feels like it can't decide whether to be urban fantasy or straight-up fantasy. There is construction equipment which uses keys and engines, insipid arguments over property ownership, deeds and commercialization. And scientists who lived their whole lives in a magic-rich world but still seem baffled with no understanding of it. And they've been on this planet for "hundreds of centuries" according to one character. (yes, those words actually got printed)

The magic system ("energy") is so arbitrary that it can barely be called that. No rules are defined or followed at any point in the book about any of the following:
* how magic works
* what it can and cannot do
* who can use it.
* how it impacts people or places
* why it varies in visibility (sometimes it is invisible, sometimes visible only to other "energy workers", and sometimes everyone can see it.
* how magic places work ( proximity to the same pools will amplify, dampen, hurt, and heal, our characters in different situations without explanation.
* how magical creatures "spirit pets" are different from magic using characters in any way.
* why people are described as having specialties when any "energy worker" can essentially perform any trick when needed.
* "complete invisibility* apparently means being intangible as well? while basic flawed invisibility, just means nobody can see the subject?

Even the fundamentals of what constitutes "positive" and "Negative" energy seem to be based entirely on the author's moral sense of good and evil. Construction equipment in the caves and empty beer bottles left around are creating "negative" energy. Other man-made objects which are not assigned a sinister nature by the plot radiate positive energy instead. This makes me want to flip tables the more I think about it.

If you've bothered to read this far with me telling you what the book claims to be that it isn't, you are probably looking for a little substance on what it actually is. Surely the author couldn't publish all of that without some substance behind it. Well, I'll let you know what is at the core:

Cheap, awful, teenage romance.

The book is peppered juvenile relationship terms like "meant to be" and "breaking up". It follows two very empty-of-actual-personality trait characters (our very own Bella and Edward) who communicate poorly with each other to create conflict in an otherwise very straightforward young-love situation. Whether or not they'll end up together (while functionally being together the entire book) seems to be something we're meant to be overly invested in.

It evokes bad fan-fiction even more when it dissolves into smut-style sex scenes at two different points in the book. Suddenly all talk of energy and planets evaporates for descriptions about whether or protagonist is "nude" or "in panties" whether they should or should not be doing this thing that feels oh so good. This is clearly not the author's first time writing erotica. But no amount of sweaty body parts and cute teenage passion could have saved this book.

Because I just want this review done with, I'm going to bullet point the rest of the things that made me angry reading Genesis:

* It unfolded as one single endless scene. No sense of time progressing
* A huge portion of the book was spent returning to the same set of caves to "investigate", only to have people get attacked for the 5th time
* It severely overused the "pass out and wake up somewhere else" trope to jump between settings.
* It introduced integral characters with no description at regular intervals, even late into the book.
* Characters would regularly make a statement, only to admit they were lying a sentence or two later (sometimes without interruption or challenge by another

In summary: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

The reader is immediately introduced to protagonist Genesis in her shop (of unknown type) that has just been broken into. Very quickly you learn that there is a paranormal element to this world, but it is only implied at this stage and not evident in characters' actions.
We also discover quickly that Glory is a different planet, and this throws up some wonderful possibilities. "Life on Glory wasn't the same as on other planets. And so very different from Earth. Some planets - like Glory - hadn't been as fully researched as others before immigration had started..." What happened to Earth? I was majorly intrigued by this point and was wishing for a prequel already!

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm and attention wasn't held. There quite simply wasn't enough plot; nothing happened. The paranormal element was barely explained. I felt the focus of the novel should have been the paranormal element NOT the rekindling romance between Genesis and Connor.

Overall a great idea, but I felt the execution was seriously lacking. Plot points weren't explained very well, and things were mentioned that I thought were interesting possibilities and then they were never mentioned again. I would give this 1 star merely for the idea and would think twice before reading anything by Dale Mayer.

I'm not even sure where to start with this review. I was offered an advance review copy, and it was presented as a sci-fi novel, so I was happy to read and review it. That lasted until about, oh, page 1. The first red flag was the author's repeated use of the adjective 'male' as a noun. For fucks sake, unless you're discussing animals, 'male' is an adjective, not a noun.

Frankly, this entire book is just sloppy writing. The author uses incorrect word choices throughout the novel, even making poor choices between 'an' and 'the'. There is absolutely no world-building, just utterly random "sci-fi" words thrown in to make it seem like the author put any thought whatsoever into this book (spoiler: she didn't). This book reads like a cross between a 13-year-old's first foray into fanfiction and a my-first-chapter-book for pre-teens, dotted with a couple of truly awful sex scenes. It also reads like a sequel to a previous book (which doesn't exist); there are references to a larger story throughout the book, but none of them are fleshed out enough to justify their inclusion.

Don't spend money on this crap. It baffles me that this author's books have such a high rating. Who the hell is reading this shit?!?!

ETA: Also, the "epic romance" (barf) between the two main characters unfolded over a single week a year prior to the events in the book. Yes, apparently true love can unfold when both characters, by admission, know abso-fucking-lutely nothing about each other and spent most of the ONE WEEK they did "know" each other in bed having sex. So, they're meant to be, but couldn't actually tell you the first thing about the other person.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. Just, wow. I downloaded this book onto my kindle about a week ago, and have struggled through this horrific mess for the past several days. This book, I assume, is for younger adults, because the content is so simple and so poorly written, that the only people who could appreciate it are those who do not know any better, or who are new to the sci-fi genre, if that is what you want to call this book.

Genesis is a lame, one-dimensional character. Everything you need to know about her you know within the first couple of pages. There is no showing in this book, it is all telling. Genesis did this, Remi did this, Connor did this. Grandma was this way, Grandpa was that way. I was so bored within the first few chapters of this book, I cannot believe I actually finished it. Even the areas of suspense dragged on, contributing nothing to the plot and offering the reader nothing in terms of world building or character development. By Chapter Five there is still nothing going on in terms of moving the plot along, it is just Genesis wandering through the forest and the author attempting to build a scenario of "romantic tension"between Connor and Genesis. I also find it funny that this is suppose to take place on a planet where people have migrated from Earth hundreds of years before, yet it seems like the human race has not evolved at all. Maybe that is the author's attempt at making the book more relatable to the audience, I am not sure.

I wish I could say I liked something about this book. All the love scenes were cliche, the writing was poor, the book was just boring. Not my cup of tea.

I was really happy to have a change of pace from my usual books, as it made me remember how much I love a good paranormal books.

This is the intro book for the series and I have to say I was a fast fan and can't wait to get to more.......

We get a bunch of information at the start of the book and find out that a set of triplets might be the saving grace for the planet of Glory. The problem is that the triplets each took their own journey following the passing of their Granny. It becomes evident that each girl needs to find their own path back to one another at their own speed.

Genesis is the one to stay behind and is the one try to keep the forest running as it should. What she doesn't know is that others are working against her and the balance that is so precious to Glory is in jeopardy. She quickly realizes that she needs to find out what is happening, but her past comes front and center in the depth of the caves. Connor never got over the one week he spent with Genesis and he knows she is key to restoring the balance. Genesis is less than happy to see Connor, but the emotions and passion run her actions once reunited. These two quickly realize just how much they need the other to reach that harmony they never expected to find.

Family secrets are revealed in this journey and the plot is set for the two remaining sisters to make their return to Glory.

Genesis is the first in what I would assume will lead to a trilogy about the lives of three triplet sister's who live on a Earth-like world called Glory. The one main difference between Earth and Glory is its source of energy.

A good portion of the book is spent world-building Glory, with its self-sustaining forest, invisible pets, and star gazers. While the background exposition was sorely needed, the romance took a hit due to the author focusing on introducing Glory.

Genesis and Conner are the love interest and I liked them both. I got only a brief glimpse into their characters motivations, but there was enough information built in that I started to questions Conner's choices in the end. The love story is definitely unresolved, but it wasn't compelling enough for me to crave the next installment. I was much more intrigued with the love story hinted at between one of Genesis' sisters and Matt.

The highlight of Genesis were the pets. I don't want to spill too much, but I felt so connected to the pets by the end and wanted to wrap them in a bubble of love and protection. Kudos to the author for having the imagination to create such lovable characters.

A tricky book to review. The writer allowed the reader to discover the world through dual perspectives of Genesis and Connor, rather than simply explain everything (until the end). I liked the idea of spiritual animals, irony of "power struggle in Glory", healing pools, and overarching environmental protections theme. Slow start to the book but around 70%, plot picks up significantly. Characters (other than Genesis) could have more character development and personality. Concept of stargazing seemed underdeveloped. The story setting is also limited to a few places which made the story less adventurous. If you love pets and passionate about protecting the environment, a love story, a back story at the end, this may be the book for you.

well well well... a different sort of book from dale..

and i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it...

had to get my head round the fact that is was based on a different planet after all we had damaged earth so much it needed to heal and so once the first settlers had been on the planet and understood the healing properties on this planet...which took several generations before their abilities kicked in...

thats when i started to enjoy this story...and what a storyline it was..with the healing pools and people with different abilities plus having spirit animals beside them...we all need a remi in our lives...

shame this series never took off...it has some interesting bits that make you want to keep reading it

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've had this book finished for a few weeks, but the schedule's been a bit crazy and it's taken me a while to put together a coherent and thoughtful response to it. Especially considering the nature of how I came to read it, namely a free copy from the author/publisher.

Let's start with the things that I really liked about this book. The premise and world were incredibly interesting, and the idea of the magic system was intriguing. Essentially, Genesis, the oldest of triplets, lives on a world called Glory. In a stunning turn of events, humans had completely destroyed planet Earth, and so had to look outside of their native planet for somewhere else to live; hence, their existence on Glory, and ostensibly other planets throughout the galaxy. (There was a casual mention that scientists were working to making Earth habitable again.) Glory has some sort of magic system that involves the use and movement of energy, which is a power that Genesis has in spades, and has been taught by her late grandmother. There are water pools underground that have some sort of healing qualities, although that's not really investigated. The spirit pets were adorable and worth reading it on their own, because now I desperately want one.

Okay, things I had issues with. This list is unfortunately a bit longer than the list of thing I loved. Overall, this book just felt so disjointed, and ultimately like nothing plot-wise really happened. It's the first in a trilogy—each one is about one of the triplets, which, don't even get me started on the triplets—but it doesn't feel as if there's anything to be resolved further in the trilogy because the conflict feels entirely manufactured. There was NO background on any of the characters, the world they live in, or the magic system that exists. While the snapshots that we see of each of these are enough to keep you reading, there is no explanation of any of them and how or why they work they way they do. Which leads to the feeling that there is no payoff. Why should I care about a character who seems to have come into existence three seconds before I started reading about their life? Further, the lack of development into the magic system, and the terminology and phrasing which makes it seem as though you should already know exactly how it works, leaves a reader feeling as though they've completely missed something.

Ultimately, the story ends up feeling like a poorly constructed vehicle for a love story. Perhaps if the love story itself had been more compelling, I could have forgiven the other issues I had with the book. Because we don't get much background on characters—if any at all—I have no investment in the relationship between Genesis and her ex-boyfriend. Further, the information that we do get is that they only "dated" for a week, over a year ago. Yet, they're still pining for each other. Now, I consider myself something of a romantic. But two people who were only together for a week, that relationship is not based on an undying love for each other—it's based on pure lust. That's fine, if you want to have a lust-based relationship in a book, I'm all for that. I love sexy times as much as the next person. But don't try to sell me mud and say it's ice cream...or some other saying that connotes the same thing. Just be up front about the nature of the relationship.

This gets incredibly frustrating when Genesis and Connor both refer to how he/she has "always" made them feel a certain way. Really? Always? Like, that whole week? Here are just a few examples: "He'd always had the power to move her, a sensuality that he never seemed to be aware of." "A look she'd always loved and thought she'd never see again." "She loved him so much. Always had." Emphasis was mine, but that was only three of the myriad examples. I just can't take something seriously when "always" refers to one week's worth of time.

There were moments of poor grammar and unrealistic, awkward, clunky dialogue. But I could have also forgiven those if the other redeeming features had been greater.

There was a lot of promise here, and I can only hope that the other books in the trilogy live up to that promise.

Genesis Chandler lives an interesting life. She is one of three heirs to a woman called Granny, who the locals thought of as completely crazy. As a result, Genesis and her sisters are given wide berth. Now, her sisters have left town and the land that Genesis has taken on as caretaker has been corrupted by dark energy and it is up to Genesis to discover the reason. Connor is on the security detail for a man called Grandfather. He has been called in to investigate problems in the sacred forest that are impacting the town’s energy source. Connor and Genesis loved each other once, but can they get past the old hurts to work together to find the source of the problem?

I found Genesis vaguely reminiscent of Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials because it is set in a world where energy work is commonplace and where energy workers are accompanied by a spirit animal. That is pretty much where the similarities end, but that helped shape my understanding of and appreciation for Dale Mayer’s novel. I really wanted to learn more about Granny and her work as a stargazer because she was referred to in such widely disparate terms by several of the characters. I also want to learn more about the world of Glory and how it differs from Earth. But the look into the world through the eyes of Genesis Chandler was extremely entertaining. I did read some other reviews before I began reading the novel and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find that the novel was not nearly as off-putting as some of the reviewers made it out to be. Everyone’s tastes are different and I am pleased to report that I found the novel rather enjoyable. There are a number of sex scenes in the book, but they are not graphic so I would say that the book is good for mature readers 17+. The author does an excellent job of not showing her hand too early in the novel. While the action of the book is probably somewhat predictable, the storytelling is adept enough that the reader doesn’t mind the destination when the journey is so fun! My major issue with the book is that I was never entirely sure what sort of animal Genesis’ spirit pet, Remi, was. However, since he seems to be a native animal of Glory, I suppose it doesn’t really matter. I look forward to future trips with Ms. Mayer to Glory.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dale Mayer weaves a beautifully magical world in 'Genesis', which is intriguing and fascinatingly fun to read.

The book takes place on a planet called Glory, which has been settled by humans along with several other planets. It sounds like the beginning of a Sci Fi novel, but instead the reader is transported to a wonderful fantasy world, where nature is in balance and energy is the key to people living a peaceful and happy life. The setting is detailed and most importantly for me, utterly believable. I could easily imagine moving onto Glory and living out my life surrounded by healing pools and spirit animals. It's such a precious concept.

The story was enthralling from start to finish, focusing on the titular character, Genesis. She, and her two sisters (on which I believe the follow up books focus), are ancient star-gazers with the rights to a whole lot of land. We are taken on an engaging ride into the power struggles of such a young world as other players come into light to try and force away what is rightfully hers.

Connor, the love interest, is an interesting character in his own right, with his own ocean of problems he's trying to sort through. There are a few steamy scenes which, although fun, are written tastefully and well. I don't think it would be offensive to younger teens with a decent reading ability.

The spirit animals were by and far my favourite addition. With having a love of animals, I've always rather enjoyed the idea of having a secret pet that only a select few could see! They remind me strongly of the daemons in Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' series. Wouldn't we all love one?

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to people who enjoy young adult fiction with a strong heroine character. Beautiful work.

I received this as an ARC from Dale Mayer in exchange for an honest review. This book can be considered science fiction with romantic suspense.

Genesis is the first book in a new series that takes place on a new planet, Glory. Colonists from Earth have settled onto Glory and are thriving, but Glory has started to change the colonists. Colonists are developing energy abilities that are drawn from the planet itself. As one of a set of triplets, Genesis is a very gifted energy worker. Her life consisted of her sisters and her Granny. When Granny passes, the sisters are thrown into turmoil. To heal from Granny's death, the sisters part ways. Grieving her Granny, Genesis has allowed her job of checking energy balances in sacred areas to slip. When she goes to investigate these areas, she stumbles upon her old lover, Connor and a mystery of what is happening to the depleting energy resources.

As I read the book, it was easy to fall into a good reading rhythm. The new environment is described in just enough detail that you do not feel inundated by adjectives. The author describes just enough to make the connection and not too much. Genesis and Connor are fleshed out characters that easily allow you to like each one of them individually, but as a couple you are rooting for them. The author makes it very easy to want to go get the next in series. She introduces other secondary characters that make you want to read the next book because you are invested in these character's futures. This is a very fun and entertaining read. I like that it goes quickly and that as a reader, I was not bogged down in unnecessary details. I look forward to the next book. Well done!

Loved this book! Genesis is an awesome gal. I love how this story takes place on another planet and not just Earth. Glory sounds like it would be an interesting place to live. Genesis lost her Granny and that was hard for her. Her two sisters and the love of her life also left her a year ago. She knew her sisters would be back when the time was right. It's too bad it's not now because she really needed them now. When she runs into Connor down in the pools, is he someone she can trust? After all, he does work for Grandfather, a person who ran her family name in the mud. She decides that he can be trusted based on his energy but when he brings his friend Matt in the picture she's hesitant. He broke one of her sister's heart and he's the head of the Paranormal Council. With both her home and place of business getting broken into and the forest and pools being constructed on, she has no one else to turn to but Matt and Connor. Matt claims he has done a lot of house cleaning with those under Grandfathers influence and her Granny always liked Matt. With that the three of them do anything they can to protect the documents that were once Genesis Granny's and now her and her sisters. Will they find out who is behind everything? Or will that person get to the documents that states her families claim to the land? I also must say that Genesis' spirit pet Remi and Matt's spirit pet Darbo sound like the cutest little creatures ever! Can't wait for the next book to come out!

Genesis and Connor's story is one of heartbreak, mystery, and suspense.

I loved the setting of Glory. The way that that planet is described and how the pools connect to the forest connect to the people...complex yet easily understood. It was so detailed I could almost smell the plants in the forest and feel the humidity of the caves on my skin.

The story itself is intriguing as well. I love how it is a multi-faceted story and each angle is treated equally. The mystery surrounding the ebbing energy of the forest and pools is given as much time as the rekindling of Genesis and Connor's romance. All details are in there for a reason...I hate how some authors start a part of a story and then it drops off into oblivion and you're left wondering why it was even written into the book in the first place. I definitely did NOT have to worry about that with this story.

The characters were well-written and detailed. I loved how Genesis grew and learned throughout the story. Honestly I think I just didn't connect with Connor as the hero for some reason. Perhaps because he had lost his powers or maybe because he's just seems "too nice." I felt that Matt was more the hero type than Connor. However they were all well-developed, even the "bad guys" were easy to hate. I loved Remi and Darbo though. Where can I get myself a plumer?? LOL

Overall it was a great story and had good characters. I am honestly surprised that I just didn't connect with the hero as I usually do in Dale's books.

I received this book as a arc for a honest review, I'm a very big fan of Dale Mayer, I have almost all her books and have read each one, she has never failed me on any of her books and series to be amazing with her descriptions of the story and characters. Genesis Chandler is one of the last of her family's line of stargazers, on the planet glory. She's connected to the healing pools in the mountain and forest threw their energy and being a energy worker herself she knows how important it is for their planets survival. There's legends, mystery, magic and romance which is a great mix for this book. As Connor an old flame comes back into the picture things are happening and becoming a little confusing for her. With the passing of her granny and her sisters absences, she's got enough to deal with and with the help from Connor and her spirit pet remi they try to figure out what evil is attacking the healing pools. I love the paranormal and romance mix I can't wait for the rest in th series to come out its a must read

Genesis by Dale Mayer
Glory Series Book One
Genesis Chandler is the last of her family in Little Glory. A year ago her sisters left, as did the love of her life. She hadn't realized how far she'd let herself fall from her responsibilities in that time until she goes back to the caves and forest that were left in her care. Something is amiss and it's up to her alone to fix things.

Connor Bateman has returned to Little Glory. To the woman he had loved and left. He was determined to change things, prove himself worthy. To stop working for Grandfather. His first day back ends up with an aching head and problems. And Genesis.

This new series takes place on a different planet. The residents of Earth have had to move to different planets, ten of them so far. Triplet sisters Genesis, Tori and Celeste are on Glory. A year ago all three were engaged and life was good. Their granny passed and everything changed. I'm looking forward to more stories in this series.

I am giving this review on behalf of Kats Book Promotions/ Katsindiebookblog. This story definitely has potential, but it’s not quite there yet. The story line is great, but unfortunately the proper grammar and writing took a turn for the worst which made it a slight difficult to read.
The story is about 1 of 3 sisters who are the last of their kind as a Stargazer. Genesis was struck with too much grief that she could not continue with her particular job as an energy worker, which brings in Connor. With so much going on in the sacred forest, and Genesis not doing her job, Connor was called in to investigate. Now Genesis and Connor have a past, so now it turns into a possible second chance story. Connor has left once with her heart, how can she trust him to not do it again? With so much on the line, and all the lives who live in Glory, can these two push through their problems to fix the problems of their hometown?
I will most likely read the next book even though the slight downfalls of this book.

Dale Mayer has one vivid imagination. She creates worlds, characters and stories that just blow your mind. This was a well written, well thought out and detailed storyline filled with intriguing creatures, mystery, legend and magic. Genesis and Connor were great characters, they were well developed, complex and I found them very fascinating. The manipulation of energy, healing waters, cloaking spells and star charts all added to the mystical feeling of the storyline. Ms. Mayer also seems to have common theme of providing the characters with awesome and entertaining pets that add humor and emotion to the exciting tales. Even though the story comes to somewhat of a conclusion there are still things hinted at that have not been explained leaving a wonderful opening for the continuation with genesis sisters. If you are looking for a story that will keep you engaged, entertained and guessing right up to the end this would be a great choice.

I was given this book for free in exange of a honest rewiew.
Genesis lives on a planet to which people have emigrated , several hundred years back, fleeing from a polluted Earth. The planet is sustained by an energy network that has to be untouched and pure at all times for the sake of all beings living on it To this end work people with special power. Genesis is one of this people , however, she is not comfortable to make the extent of her powers know or to even use them. But now there something very wrong with the energy levels. To investigate this Connor , Genesis ex lover, the one who broke her heart , comes back to to town and they have to work together.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot.
Suffice is to say I read the book in one afternoon, I could not put it down.
The book is well written, the plot is engaging, the characters are likable. Even though it is the first book in a series it does not end with a cliffhanger. This I appreciated.
Overall this is a good book.

I received a copy of this from the author for an honest review. This book comes out on July 28, 2015.

Fantastic book! I started reading and stayed up to 2am because I couldn't put it down. I love Dale Mayer's psychic series and this is similar but a different series. It is about how energy is around everything and at first I had a hard time understanding what the book was trying to say. After reading a little while I totally understood what the author was saying. She explains while at the same time gets you so involved with the characters you want to know what's going to happen next. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

This book combines a little magic, nature, relationships, romance and suspense. What more can you want in a book! I highly recommend this book.

A new world but love still wins.

Genesis is book 1 of a new paranormal/sci-fi series. It rings familiar bells such as the Harmony series by Jayne Castle/Krentz. It introduces us to the world of Glory, a planet humans migrate to once we have sufficiently damaged Earth. The energies of Glory allow some people to utilize paranormal powers. As I mentioned in my headline, there is love in the story also. Connor and Genesis have fallen in love in the past but parted. Fortunately, they get to patch things up. I'm looking forward to the next two books and wouldn't mind if the stories continued on from there bc this is a genre I love and few authors write at all let alone in such an enjoyable fashion.

This was a fantastic Paranormal Fantasy read! Dale Mayer brings this new world to life with her descriptive writing. I want to emerge myself in the healing pools, see & work with people's energies myself, and have a spirit pet. Genesis is such a strong girl, grieving for her Granny, the love of her life and missing her sisters, she continues on with her life. Something is happening in the forest and caves and its up to Genesis to figure out what. Problems arise and she must work with the man who broke her heart, without falling again. Can she trust him? Does she have a choice? They must work together as the balance of all rests on their shoulders.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review so here goes. This may have been more a 3.5 star instead of three. At the beginning Glory kind of reminded me of a modern Ferngully. Glory was a fast read and easy to get into but sometimes I just wanted to smack the main character in the head! They where only together for like a week and you act as if your life was over when he left! Get over it! Those little things aside there where parts I rather enjoyed and will most likely read the next one.

I read book two first, just making life more interesting ; but even though I knew some of what happened, it was still suspenseful. It is certainly true that sometimes we are our own worst enemy (both Connor and Genesis), or at least sabotage ourselves. This makes this book very much like real life, even if set on a planet far far away. Hopefully their life won't be too difflcult from now on, but I'm not playing any bets! Thanks, Dale Mayer!

I adore Dale Mayer's writing and Genesis is a prime example of the reason. She weaves amazing characters into intriguing and unique plots. This trilogy is science fiction, mystery, and romance. This part of the story is wrapped up with no real cliffhanger but it does leave me anxious to discover the stories of her sisters in the future Glory series books.

Great book! I loved the characters and can't wait to read the next one in the series. This is my first book by Dale Mayer, but I will definitely be looking at his other series. I really enjoyed his style and story telling.
