Reckless

When his best friend, Lee, offered him his sub as part of a bet, Colton Prier never expected more than a clean condo from the boy. But Tate Nicholson is well-trained, eager , and he likes rope play as much as Colton enjoys tying him up. It should have ended after one night, but they begin meeting in secret, and Colton can’t stop thinking about Tate. It’s a betrayal of his friendship with Lee to fall in love with Tate, but Colton can’t help wanting the sub for himself. He’s not alone in his feelings, either. Tate thought he was happy with Lee. Not completely fulfilled, but happy enough. But as he spends more time with Colton, he realizes Lee isn’t capable of giving him what he wants anyway. Lee demands his full submission, but Tate doesn’t want to be a lifestyle sub. Colton expects his obedience at times but gives him his freedom more often than not, which is more in line with what Tate wants. When Tate really needs his Dom and Lee isn’t around to help him, he reaches the tipping point and needs to choose who he wants to give his submission to, and to accept the consequences of his choice when he does.

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance and their dog. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.

'He wasn't mine. I wasn't supposed to care about him. I shouldn't have held him close, and I shouldn't have pressed myself against him'.
Deliciously uncomfortable. This is one of those stories that kept me gripped and reading too late into the night curious to discover what might happen next.

Told entirely from Colton's perspective this is a fascinating exploration of the complexities and moral dilemmas when your head tells you one thing and your heart tells you something else entirely.

Colton struggles to do the right thing as does Tate the man he is drawn to.

The discomfort comes in several forms. Filled with interesting quandaries about choice and consequence, friendship and acceptance, not to mention self-sacrifice and bravery and enjoyment all wrapped up in a lovely package of integrity, with some very hot rope play thrown in for good measure.

I appear to have read 77% of this in one sitting; that was 3 weeks ago and now I have no clue what this book was about. I have forgotten everything except what's in the blurb. My notes say:

Narrated by Colton, not particularly likeable so far, bit holier than thou.
Writing is really stilted.
Dialogue terrible. Use contractions FFS.
Sex is acceptable.

So I mustn't have been enjoying it very much but I honestly can't remember enough to justify rating it and couldn't be arsed finishing it.

This was my first book by the author, but it won’t be my last. I did enjoy it overall, but there were a few things I didn’t like. I’m so used to dual POV so being in one person’s head isn’t my preference anymore. Then there were all the inconsistencies with the plot. Colton thought at one point that David wasn’t dominant or a switch, but not a true submissive either. But then later it said Davis was a switch, but preferred to be submissive. Then David was sad at one point things didn’t work out for him and Colton, but then it said at the end of the book that Lee was more his type of Dom but David was too young to be Lee’s type completely. They all went to college together, so they’re all around the same age…

It was a pretty substantial age gap since Tate was 22 and Colton was in his 40s from what I remember. BDSM was a good focus for the majority of the book, but there was also some plot points unrelated to that. I’d probably give 3.5 out of 5 stars, but rounding down.

4.5 Stars ~ Have you ever been in a situation where your head and your heart are totally at odds? This book is a clear example of the heart wanting what the heart wants, and nothing can stand in the way. There is a lot about BDSM etiquette here, and what the rules are when a Dom loans out his sub to another Dom (or bets him and loses).

Lee loves to bet. He bets on everything. He bets with everything—even the time of one of his current subs (he has multiple). I have to say that Lee is not shown in the best light in this book, and I would love to have him be the focus of the next installment and see him really meet someone who gives him a run for his money. Lee hasn’t found “the one” yet, but he inadvertently is the catalyst for his best friend and business partner meeting his.

Colton loves to tie people up; it’s his one main kink and he’s good at it. Lee has a sub that is interested in bondage, so betting Tate’s time kills two birds for Lee—lending (losing) Tate to a Dom that does bondage makes his sub happy and also allows Lee time with his other charges. Colton really doesn’t have any expectations on the weekend he has won with Tate, but when Tate shows up in nothing but his underwear, who is Colton to look a gift horse in the mouth? It’s when the two of them start manipulating Lee’s love of gambling to spend more time together that things get a little gray. I have to say that Caitlin Ricci handles this situation really well. I was very skeptical of the premise for this book. It just didn’t sound like it was on the up and up, but the author puts us in a situation that tangles around these characters and hooks you in to the end.

Both Colton and Tate are very aware of what is right and what is wrong, and even step away from each other because they are striving to do what is right. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of integrity that the author imbues in her characters. But alas, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants, and when Tate is truly in need, it is Colton who comes to his rescue—not Lee.

Reckless is a well written story, it is nicely paced and easy to read. Colton is an amazing Dom, and who doesn’t like stories about a man with some rope who knows how to use it? Tate is young, he’s twenty-two, but he knows what he wants. For Tate, submission is a choice not a necessity.

“Tate was different in many ways, but his submission was because it gave him pleasure to submit and to lose himself in the knowledge that someone else was taking care of him. I realized that his submission had very little to do with giving up himself, and that was beautiful to me. He retained who he was, and submitting was just another layer.”

I totally enjoyed reading Colton and Tate’s romance. The BDSM is hot, the chemistry between the two MCs solid, and the tangled web of “should I or shouldn’t I” that Caitlin Ricci weaves keeps this novel fresh and interesting. I absolutely recommend this story.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that Reckless is my first Caitlin Ricci novel. After reading this book, I can tell you all it won't be my last. Delicious sexual tension, chemistry that is off the charts hot, well-developed, multi-faceted characters, a plot that was engaging and a pace that was perfect, Reckless ticked all my buttons and when you throw in some VERY well written BDSM, well, this was like candy to me. I loved this book from start to finish.

Colton Prier is my favorite kind of Dom to read about. Intense, focused, strict but giving, and that touch of cold aloofness that is somehow just so very sexy. Reckless is told solely in first person from Colton's point of view and while I prefer to get dual points of view when I read, spending so much time inside Colton's mind was all kinds of yummy. And the connection between these two? Whoa, it was sizzling. Tate was fascinating to me, on the outside he seems so delicate, but inside there lurks a steel resolve and the sparks flying between Colton and Tate are palpable.

I loved the conflict going on in Reckless. Tate isn't Colton's, not at the beginning. Instead he is his best friend, Lee's, submissive. Colton knows he shouldn't want Tate like he does, but their pull toward one another is undeniable. When the perfect person for you walks into your life, what else can you do but choose him over your best friend?

"I wanted him, though. That was the worst of it. I wanted to yank the baggy lounge pants he’d found off him, and I wanted to hold him down on the bed and fuck him. Even after everything he’d been through that night. I pushed my sneakers off and lay down behind him. He wasn't mine. I wasn't supposed to care about him. I shouldn't have held him close, and I shouldn't have pressed myself against him. But that night what I should have done melted away completely as I fell asleep with Tate in my arms as his soft hair brushed my chin."

Gah. Soooo intense, yeah?

Being inside Colton's head while he struggled with his wants versus not wanting to hurt Lee kept me turning page after page. Watching these two fall more and more in love was captivating. Reckless is so well written. The BDSM scenes were intense and steamy, but there weren't so many that they overpowered the rest of the story. Colton and Tate were such compliments to one another, they were absolutely delightful. Colton in all his focus and rules and Tate, all feisty and sassy, with such a touch of vulnerability that you can't help but love him. Reckless is a low angst, passionate story about two men who are so right for one another that they stop at nothing to have their HEA. I highly recommend this book, you'll love it. Promise.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Audiobook Review:

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

When his best friend, Lee, offered him his sub as part of a bet, Colton Prier never expected more than a clean condo from the boy. But Tate Nicholson is well-trained, eager, and he likes rope play as much as Colton enjoys tying him up. It should have ended after one night, but they begin meeting in secret, and Colton can’t stop thinking about Tate. When Tate really needs his Dom and Lee isn’t around to help him, he reaches the tipping point and needs to choose who he wants to give his submission to, and to accept the consequences of his choice when he does.

Caitlin Ricci did a great job with this story. Colton wins Tate as part of a bet with his best friend. They both enjoy their time together and end up meeting up by accident and then on purpose in secret. When Tate decides that his loyalty should be to his dom Colton decides to walk away gracefully until he is called when Tate needs help and Lee isn’t around.

Throughout the story I could feel how confused Colton was when he first realized that Tate would be his perfect sub, but wasn’t one he could ever have. When Colton had to break away from Tate to avoid being hurt anymore my heart was breaking with his. Tate has an eye opening experience when Lee doesn’t come when he needs help and Colton is the one who comes he knows he has to make a decision.

You could see the internal conflict that Tate was having when he was with Colton, even through Colton’s eyes. They both connected so well when they were together. At the end of the story they are both looking towards their future together.

Cover art by Caitlin Ricci is nice picture and connects with the story.

Decent but didn't thrill me. Will finish review later. Not sure it even deserves three stars.

I bought this because A: I never read this author before and B: There's a guy in bondage on the cover! I like reading good bondage. The blurb also says Tate doesn't want to be a "lifestyle"sub. I like BDSM that's not full time but that's not what I got from this story.

Tate has a contract with Colton's best friend and business partner Lee, for 4 days a week, so that he has time for himself. Which he then seems to spend mostly at the BDSM club subbing and screwing other Doms. Whatever. Why then, couldn't Colton and Tate just tell Lee that Tate wasn't getting what he needed from him and wanted Colton for his new Dom from the start? Tate and Lee weren't exclusive. But it was supposedly a big deal because Colton and Lee were friends. I just didn't get it.

Colton is mostly the typical cliche Dom; I know exactly what you need, I love you because you are the perfect sub for me. I will give you some time off, but I will tell you exactly what you are allowed to do during that time. You can do this thing you like, only because I think it's good for you, and I will explain it all to your dad so he will know that our kink is okay.

IDK, maybe that's not lifestyle, but it looked like it to me. There were some fairly hot sex scenes but it still felt like insta-love, since they were only together like 3-4 times before Colton was pining away. Tate just seemed stupid and slutty to me and Colton didn't seem like he was passionate, just wanted Tate's sub aspect. I couldn't connect with the characters much. It was written technically well, everything fit within the context it was given. I just disliked the context. Nothing was really bad about it, there were just no "feels".

3.5 star review by The Blogger Girls.

There is a little more to this story than what the blurb leads to believe. Colton has a competitive streak with his best friend and business partner, Lee, which leads to him winning a weekend of service from Lee’s sub, Tate. He expects little more than an opportunity for a clean apartment. But, it is a bit deeper than that because Tate is hoping Colton will help him experience some of the things Tate’s been wanting of which his current Master, Lee, has no interest in providing; namely bondage.

Colton and Tate end up taking things a bit further than housework and find that they share a connection. But, it is only for the weekend, and Tate belongs to Lee, so the weekend ends and things go back to normal…until the next opportunity for a bet brings Tate back for more.

What basically happens is that they realize they have more feelings for each other and are pretty much exactly what each other is looking for. But, it takes a while for everything to work out as the different relationships are maneuvered. Tate and Lee are really only Master/Sub, and Tate is not Lee’s only sub, though he would prefer to be the only sub in his relationship.

I really enjoyed watching things play out here and the relationship grow as they explored things together. There wasn’t anything too heavy or deep here, but just the right amount to satisfy. I wouldn’t mind reading another story about these guys as their relationship progresses, and there were some interesting side characters as well.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Reckless was an enjoyable, though uneven, BDSM romance focusing on rope play. Colton and Tate are engaging and they work as a sweet couple that understands they have something important, but that keeping it won’t be easy. While I would have preferred each character have a bit more depth, they are generally well rounded and their actions are in keeping with what we know about them. Tate is far younger than Colton, but you never get the impression that he is immature or in over his head. He knows what he wants and I found that refreshing. One of the best things that Reckless does is remind readers that BDSM is like any other lifestyle, complex and rewarding and far from one size fits all. Colton and Lee are radically different Doms and their individual expectations of Tate highlight how being a submissive doesn’t mean any Dom will do. And vice versa. Lee isn’t a particularly bad Dom, but he and Tate clearly have different needs and a result their partnership isn’t very fulfilling for either one of them. Reckless does a great job of exploring the importance of getting it right, not just because of romance, but so everyone’s needs are met.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

Reckless is a story that drags you in, makes you question the right and wrong of things, and holds you compelled until you have finished it. It was fresh, a little bit naughty and I really enjoyed it.

Colton, Lee and David are best friends, business partners and they share a love of kink. A small bet between Lee and Colton could be about to change their dynamics in ways they couldn’t have imagined and for reasons that will surprise them all. If Colton wins the bet he gets to take Grant home, one of Lee’s subs, for the weekend.

Colton wins the bet.

There is a lovely awkwardness to this story as a secret triangle forms. Lee goes through a lot of subs and isn’t looking for anyone one man in particular to settle down with. Colton has never considered settling down either, has never had any desire to – until he meets Grant – his best friends sub. Grant has watched Colton at the club, he is drawn to the fact that Colton likes to restrain, something Lee isn’t interested in so when Lee suggests Grant spends a weekend with his friend he is more than willing to go.

One night, two nights… it was never going to be enough for either Grant or Colton. There are other bets, there are other nights but then there are the nights Lee doesn’t know about and it all becomes a bit messy but you can’t lose sight of the fact that Colton sees so much more in Grant than just his submissive side and he wants it all. But will he be willing to risk everything for a man he is quickly falling in love with?

This handled a difficult situation really well. It raised questions and it answered them. It’s not your run of the mill story but it is fun, sexy and slightly reckless!

This is a book that involves submission and BDSM but that is not all that it is about. It is also about love.

Tate in my opinion knows what he wants in a relationship with a Dom but he has just not found it yet. He wants a man that will dominate him in the bedroom but will also back off outside of it and let him still have breathing room to make some of his own decisions. I think overall what he wants is a boyfriend that knows how to enjoy his submission without pushing it too far. With Lee he is not getting that in the least. Lee is one of those men that wants his submissive to be more like a slave and that is the furthest thing from Tate. Tate in my opinion is a sweet man but likes to have a side of naughty and would never intentionally hurt anyone but when he meets Lee's best friend that becomes an impossible feat because Tate and Colton just click from the moment they meet.

Colton in my opinion is a different kind of Dom. He does not go by the basic guidelines that most Doms do. I think he wants his subs submission but he also wants them to know that he thinks of them as complete equals to him. He does not have a lot of rules that he wants Tate to follow when they get together but expects the ones that he does have to be respected. But I do not think that Colton demands respect, he gives his respect freely and asks for the same instead of demanding it. I think that is part of what makes Colton really special.

When these two men are together the chemistry is just off the charts. They make the perfect Dom/sub couple because they compliment each other so well. I really enjoyed this read. Look forward to reading more by Caitlin Ricci in the future.

A book about BDSM that was well written and not so overly crowded with sex scenes that the story was lost.

Colton wins Tate, his best friends sub for the weekend after a lucky bet. Colton is sure Tate will just be cooking and cleaning for him, he doesn't have the time or want for a sub at the moment. Tate walks in and rocks his world, he may be young but he knows what he wants.

Both Tate and Colt know one weekend won't be enough. After a few stolen nights Tate is forced to choose between Lee and Colt. Will Colt and Lee's friendship survive? Can Colt live with the choice Tate makes either way?

I really enjoyed this story. For me, this is one of those "I'll never be in a relationship like this but I so enjoy reading about it" subjects.

The sharp contrast between Lee and Colton was interesting, completely different while neither was painted in a negative light.

I loved that Tate knew enough about himself to know what he wanted and ask about what he didn't understand. The care Colton took with his was so soft and tender compared to their hot passionate moments.

I loved that the story didn't stop when Tate made his decision. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship progress.

Reckless by Caitlin Ricci has Colton a Dom and Tate a Sub finding what each other needs in this story.
Tate is the sub of Colton's best friend Lee. Lee offers him Tate for the weekend only. Colton agrees reluctantly. He is looking for one boy he can have for the rest of his life. He does not want a slave he wants submission in the bedroom. He doesn't think he is ever going to find the right one for him. But agreeing to dominate Tate changes everything for them both.
Tate does not love Lee's domination style. He wants a sub 24/7. Tate wants to be free to be himself in and out of the bedroom and not a slave. When Colton gives him a taste of that, he isn't sure he can let him go. But he is not Colton's he is Lee's.
This book is about both men finding out what they want out of domination and submission, and what they are willing to do and give up to get it. There is a lot of heart and soul in this story. I liked how these two explore not only domination and submission but things outside the bedroom. Really intense story with great characters that I want more of in the future.

I knew that there would be cheating after reading the blurb, but I didn't realize that I didn't really understand why Tate didn't leave Lee earlier than he did Once Tate left Lee, I enjoyed the story more. There's an age gap, which is a trope I enjoy, but it doesn't seem like it as Tate, who's 22, is very mature and has a lot of experience as a submissive. Unfortunately, even though the age gap was mentioned a few times, we are never told how old Colton is. I'm one of those readers that likes to know how old the main characters are. Colton does mention going to Pride in the 90s, so I can only guess how old he is.

I enjoyed the BDSM aspect, especially the rope play. I enjoyed watching them grow as a couple (even in the beginning when they and especially when they officially get together). An epilogue would have been great, but it still had an HEA.

When Lee offered Colton a weekend with his sub if he won a bet, Colton never expected that Tate would be the perfect sub for him. Colton tries to get over Tate but it seems he keeps showing up whenever he goes to Spark or Lee brings him around. Tate is a little reckless choosing other Dom's when he isn't with Lee and it seems Colton is the Dom in shining leather to the rescue.

Reckless is a sweet romance, D's relationship's and friendships. I liked how the story was more about the dynamics of D's relationships and explains a lot about the give and take between the two men and not just the sex.

The story si well-written in first person in Colton's view, yet we get enough of the other men involved that the story is not one dimensional. I really loved both Colton and Tate.

If you like a sweet romance, D's relationships, tight friendships and hot man-sex you ill enjoy this book.

This book really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In this book we meet Colton and Tate. I loved the bet that Colton won use of Lee’s sub. It became quickly apparent that Tate and Colton belonged together. The author was able to convey that very quickly. This was a very sweet romance that dealt with BDSM. Tate and Colton clearly were able to become friends and later lovers. The author was able to capture all of that and it was a refreshing to see that done with such skill. This book had emotion and most of all freedom of choice. This was an excellent read and would recommend to everyone.

Colton’s best friend and business partner offers him his sub as part of a bet. Tate, the sub, is everything Colton ever wanted. I loved the chemistry between Colton and Tate. What I didn’t get was why Lee kept giving Tate to Colton but he got mad when he found out about them? It was just odd to me. The relationship between Colton and Tate was sweet, you couldn’t help but want them to have their HEA. The whole cast of secondary characters could all use a book of their own, I think there is enough there that we would all want to see more of them and hear their stories.

Takes place in Delaware.

I really love this book and the main characters. I found I really liked the way these two related. I had some issues with Lee and his idea of being a Dom. Subs are not accessories and you don't need a collection. You also should not be using them in a bet. I wanted to cry for Colton but I got my hea in the end. Even when you know the hea is coming a good writer still manages to make you forget it's coming and feel the possibility of it not happening for the MCs. This is done very well in this book.

I think I was expecting this to be more intense than it was - it was enjoyable, light and low angst and towards the end a bit too rosy glasses for me at times.
The bet is just a silly thing, nothing major but Colton gets Tate, and from there attraction builds.
I liked Colton’s style as a Dom, definitely the warm fuzzy carer type.
There is an age gap, not sure how big - either 10 years or 25.
Tate knows what he wants and doesn’t want - was a bit eh? when he was at club on his own.
Overall enjoyed.

A good book that I enjoyed. Colton and Tate have great chemistry, although their playing together started off as a bet with Tate's Dom Lee, it quickly turns to something more that when they can't seem to keep apart. Although, neither talks about their attraction to each other, when Tate needs his Dom, Colton is the one who steps u pto the plate.

This is set in Dover, Delaware, which is easily one of America's saddest state capitals. But the author made it work. I also liked how the story actually addressed proper BDSM safety and what healthy kink looks like, rather than handwaving such important things aside for the sake of fantasy.
