ಹುಟ್ಟೂರು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಹೊಸಬೆಟ್ಟು. ಹತ್ವಾರ್ ಮನೆತನಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಜೋಗಿ ಓದಿದ್ದು ಗುರುವಾಯನಕೆರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉಪ್ಪಿನಂಗಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ. ತಂದೆ ಶ್ರೀಧರರಾವ್ ಕೃಷಿಕರು. ತಾಯಿ ಶಾರದೆ. ಹಿರಿಯ ಸೋದರ ಹತ್ವಾರ ನಾರಾಯಣ ರಾವ್ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆದು, ತಾಳಮದ್ದಲೆ ಅರ್ಥಧಾರಿಯಾಗಿ, ಲೇಖಕರಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರು. ೧೮ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಬರಹ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಜೋಗಿ ಓದಿದ್ದು ಬಿ.ಕಾಂ. ಕಾಲೇಜು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿದವರು ಬಳ್ಳ ವೆಂಕಟರಮಣ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ೧೯೮೯ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟ ಗಿರೀಶ ರಾವ್ ಹತ್ವಾರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಜೋಗಿಯಾಗಿ ರೂಪಿಸಿದವರು ವೈಎನ್ ಕೆ. ಸದ್ಯ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆನಿಂತಿರುವ ಜೋಗಿ ಪತ್ನಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ, ಮಗಳು ಖುಷಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಜೀವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Title is obviously misleading. I picked up this book for the sole reason of knowing more about my city Bangalore. The city that was there before I was born. The city was once notorious because of criminals and haunted by the underworld mafia. The city that was popularly known as pensioners paradise. The city that was fondly called as Garden city of India.

But, this book has failed me to relive those moments. The book narrates a fictional tale of a crime reporter that grew up in Bangalore. We have to tolerate his mental antics and his tryst with women. That's not the typical Jogi that I've been reading in all these years. A bit disappointed. And, this is the first book in the series of 6 books that he planned to write in future. Hopefully, he creates some magic in next sequel. Being a fan of Jogi, I am sad to say that, this is not a recommending material. The story won't even feel like interested. Can be read once to the most, if you're tolerant enough.

ಅಪರಾಧ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಮಗ್ಗುಲನ್ನು, ಒಂದು ನಗರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಿಪ್ತವಾಗಿ, ನಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕಾವಾಗಿ ಹೀಗೂ ನೋಡಬಹುದು ಅಥವಾ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ನೋಡಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಅದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆದ ದಿನಚರಿಯಹಾಗೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ. ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರ, ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರದಿಂದಲೆ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವುದು, ಅನೈತಿಕ ಕಾಮವನ್ನೇ ಸ್ವಚ್ಚಂದತೆಯಿಂದ ಬಯಸುವುದು, ನೈತಿಕ ಶೃಂಗಾರದ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರ, ಹೀಗೂ ನಡೆದಿರಲಿಕ್ಕೆ ಶಕ್ಯ ಅನ್ನಿಸುವಂತ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳು, ವಿಕೃತತೆ, ಮನುಷತ್ವ, ಅಧಿಕಾರ ದಾಹ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಓದಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ನಿರೂಪಣಾ ಶೈಲಿ.
ಹಾಗೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತ ನಡೆದಿರಲಿಕ್ಕೆ ಅಸಾದ್ಯ ಆದರೂ ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೋ ನಡೆದಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಅನ್ನಿಸುವ ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ಕಥೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಎನ್ನುವ ನಗರದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡೀ ಕಥೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನಾಯಕ ನರಸಿಂಹ ಭಿಡೆ ಎನ್ನು ಕ್ರೈಮ್ ರಿಪೊರ್ಟರ್ ಒಬ್ಬನ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ತುಮುಲದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇಡೀ ನಗರದ ಕಥೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ಹೆಣೆದದ್ದು ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಹೊಸ ಜಗತ್ತೆ ಪರಿಚಯವಾಗತ್ತೆ. ಬರವಣಿಗೆ ಶೈಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಓದುಗರನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುವಂಥದ್ದು, ಹಳೆ ಓದುಗರನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತದ್ದು. Jo Gi ಅವರದೇ ರಾಯಬಾಗದ ರಹಸ್ಯ ರಾತ್ರಿ ನಂತರ ಈ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಶೈಲಿ ಇಷ್ಟಾ ಆಯ್ತು.

ಏನೋ ಒಂದು ಆಸೆ ಪಟ್ಟು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಶುರು ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಓದುತ್ತಾ ನನಗೆ ಒಂದು ಅನುಮಾನ ಕಾಡಲು ಶುರು ಆಯ್ತು. ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಚನ್ನಾಗಿ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಥವಾ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಷ್ಟು ಭೌತಿಕ ಮಟ್ಟ ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಂತ.
ಜೋಗಿಯವರ ಸುಮಾರು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಹಸ್ತಿನಾವತಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಎಷ್ಟು ಆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದು ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ನನ್ನ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲಿಂದ ಹೋಯಿತು... ಯಾಕೆ ಅಂತ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಲೇಖಕರ ಬಾವವನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ ಆಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ನನಗೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದು ಇಷ್ಟೇ.
ಖಂಡಿತಾ ಇದರ ಮುಂದಿನ ಭಾಗಗಳನ್ನೂ ಓದುತ್ತೇನೆ ಆವಾಗ ಇದು ಅರ್ಥ ಆಗಬಹುದು.
ಅವಾಗ ಬಂದು ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ.

I think 'Bengaluru' is the best of Girish Hatwar's books (Jogi). His unique style in describing events, metropolitan citie's rapid changing way, its way of showing attractiveness and emptying one's passion-desire to live, its cruelty, its lustiness is vividly described here. His life in the city for more than thirty years have given a unique authenticity to this tale.

ಜೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಇನ್ನಾರೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಲಾರರು.

ಇನ್ನೂ ಏನೋ ಇರಬೇಕಿತ್ತು ಅನಿಸಿದ್ದು ಸುಳ್ಳಲ್ಲ.

ಸರೋಜಿನಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲು ಬಲವಾದ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಬಹುದಿತ್ತು, ಬೇಕಂತಲೇ ಬರೆದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬ ವ್ಯಾಚ್ಯವಾಯಿತೇನೋ? ಇರದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ತಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತೋ ಏನೋ?

ನರಸಿಂಹನ ಪಾತ್ರ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ಟ್ಯಾಬುಲಾಯ್ಡ್ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮಿಯನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುವಷ್ಟು ಬಲಿಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದೆ.

Had some expectation that this book would reveal things about Bangalore which I didn't know. But it turned out to be a typical crime story and it can as well be any city. Not necessarily Bangalore.
