Treasure Hunters: Peril at the Top of the World integrates learning with humor and fast-paced adventure.
The biggest heist in history happened in Moscow, and the Kidd family has been hired to solve whodunnit and find the missing art pieces. The Kidd family are more than qualified for this job. They travel the world working as treasure hunters: We're the Kidd kids. We live for action, adventure, and the adrenaline rush of finding something the whole world thinks is lost forever.
There's a wonderful message at the foundation of this book about the importance of art:
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to save art and, in doing so, save civilization. Without art and culture, what are we humans? Nothing but bumbling barbarians with no beauty in our lives!
The book is blatantly educational, but in a fun way. Young readers will learn about Renaissance painters, the customs of different cultures, how to behave if attacked by wolves, and more. They may even pick up a little Italian or Russian.
Topics explored cover ecology: "Sadly, I have discovered toxins I had never seen before in bears and reindeer," said Dr. Pardue. "They are coming from nonbiodegradable plastics being dumped into the oceans."
Food: We were sitting in the living room of our hotel suite eating the black bread, porridge, blini and oladyi -- which are served with butter, sour cream, jam and caviar.
Art: Only fifty [Faberge] eggs were ever made," reported Larissa Bukova. "And they were crafted right here in Saint Petersburg by the jeweler to the czars, Carl Faberge!"
And social studies: "There are no bad people, no bad nations. Not the Russians, not the North Koreans. It's always just a small group of knuckleheads in a country. Usually rich greedy men. Not always. But usually."
Treasure Hunters: Peril at the Top of the World is packed with hilarious illustrations and offers adventure at every turn. Car chases, stealth missions, dog sledding, and cold fish pizza -- the Kidd kids take on their biggest case yet, and the reader is lucky enough to tag along.

I didn't enjoy this one as much. I'm not sure why. It was still pretty good. I gave this an extra half start because unlike the previous 3 books in this series, this one had a few activities at the end which was a really nice touch.
Unfortunately I have to wait until after Christmas to read the rest. That is, if I get these from Santa 😊🎅
I really enjoyed this book of the series- it is funny and easy to read. It is also written in a comic style, for anybody who likes comics. I would definitely recommend this series to everybody!
It was cute. You pretty much can figure out who the art thief is, but for middle schoolers, it would definately be a fun roller coaster ride of an adventure!
This series has been mostly okay for me so far, but this one was less than that. With the parents back, the kids just get led around in this book. I was glad that the arc of the parents both being missing ended in book #3, rather than being dragged on for a while, but I really expected some kind of (hopefully different) plot device to happen to leave the kids on their own. Because the kids aren't really the treasure hunters anymore, and in fact, often get told to stay put or stay with the parents. It's not that I'm wishing for a story where the kids constantly disobey their parents and sneak away, but I feel like, for a story aimed at kids, the kids should really have some way to be the heroes of the books, not just sidekicks.
On top of that, this book takes a decidedly left turn away from the adventurous treasure hunting in the previous books (and in the series name) into a heavy-handed environmentalism, climate change agenda. Yes, there is still some action and adventure, and even some interesting locales. But treasure? Nope. That's hunted "off screen," so to speak. Plus, eldest Kidd kid Tommy, who was my favorite in the first book, has started to be a bit much with his girl infatuation, talking about making things "hot" with a girl who has shown no interest in him and doesn't even speak English. He's becoming more creepy than amusing.
So here is where I have to decide if this series is worth continuing with or not. For now, I think I'll stop listening to the audiobooks, because while I appreciated the narrator initially, his tendency to say lines of dialog in a tone that's contrary to the context is starting to bug me. And his (maybe too good) pre-teen boy voice makes the Twin Tirades (which already annoy me) even more childish. We'll see how things go from here.
Now that the Kidds kids have reconnected with their parents, they are settling back into traveling the world, but it doesn't mean that fun and excitement has disappeared. The fun actually starts with a trip to Florence, Italy, where they run into a mysterious secret society with an interest in art Enlightened Ones. Before long, the Kidds find themselves racing to St. Petersburg, Russia, where they are drawn into the center of a major art theft at the Hermitage. Thus starts another adventure in which the family will find themselves heading to exotic locations to collect clues in order to find out what happened to the missing art. This proves to be even more important since the Hermitage was one of only a few major art museums that had pieces stolen from it.
Humor, adventure and fun characters continues with this fourth volume in the series. The book seems perfect for middle school (or intermediate) readers. The story is told from the perspective of Bick while his sister Beck draws the cartoonish illustrations making for a nice mixture of graphic novel and narrative formatting, which has become more common for this age group. The book is a quick read, and it definitely gets you thinking as you try and solve the mystery before the Kidd family does.
This fourth entry in the "Treasure Hunters" series is a fun adventure tale that takes the Kidd family to Russia and the North Pole. The illustrations are hilarious as usual, but on the whole, this one doesn't quite measure up to the standard of the first three books. It's still worth reading for fans of the series, though.
There are all cute quick reads, they are a middle grade series. I am really enjoying the series and plan on reading the next 2 books in the series. I like how they educational with a twist.
I liked this book because it was packed with action and funny at the same time. While I was reading the book you could tell that storm wasn't her normal self. I think she felt like someone was taking her spotlight, her thing telling facts. In the end though I felt like she didn't really care about that because Larrisa (the one who was taking storms spotlight) was a undercover cop and helping the kidd family.
The next book in the "Treasure Hunters" series, "Peril at the Top of the World" has made my last couple weeks awesome and fun. "Peril at the Top of the World" caught my attention when I first saw it at my school library, and darn it got my attention. The book has everything a teen is looking for. From humorous to adventurous vibes, it will make you want to flip every page without stopping for a break. In my opinion, this book has been my favorite book from the "Treasure Hunters" series. My favorite part from the book was when Bick and Beck got into there traditional "Twin Tirade". A "Twin Tirade" is when Bick and Beck get into a heated argument. Sadly, this book has a weakness. The book always has useless chapters and really short chapters. For the most part, "Treasure Hunters: Peril at the Top of the World" is my favorite book I have read from the series and I will continue reading more books from James Patterson.
Eh, too much agenda is pushed in this book. Instead of the focus being on finding treasures, the Kidds are trying to save the earth by making videos of the arctic to become a documentary. They do have a treasure to find, but that's not the central focus of the plot. And Tommy's innuendos towards pretty girls are just getting worse and worse. It's getting to the point of being disgusting instead of just eye-rolling.
Re-reading this book I think it is the parents whining that kills the novel. The kids did fine and now the parents are back adding this level of annoyance (even for me), makes my head hurt. The first time we read it I thought maybe we weren't in the right frame of mind. I think we are done with this series.
This is a fun series until it becomes a diatribe on the false "science" of global warming. Parents interested in having their children learn true science and not being lectured by the liberal left should avoid this series.

“We interrupt this fun, exciting, adventurous story to bring you a public service announcement on environmental protection.” A public service announcement: That’s what this book reminded me of. I LOVED the first three books—five stars! But this story forced an environmental activism (which had little to do with the overall plot of this story and the whole series) lecture on its readers. Don’t get me wrong—I am all for taking care of our beautiful earth, it is the greatest treasure! But as a middle grade fiction reviewer, it irritates me to high heaven when authors force a plot line to get across their personal messages. Especially when it doesn’t fit the characters or plot. Patterson did this same thing in one of the Max Einstein books and I totally lost interest in the series after that. Sadly, same goes for this series and I’m so bummed. There are phenomenal MG series that are centered around environmental protection and science. THE EXPLORERS ACADEMY series is one example. The message isn’t forced because the message IS the plot.
I can definitely say that this book was one I actually enjoyed, and that didn't happen for quite a long time. I went into a "book slump" because I couldn't find an enjoyable book that is not boring or too confusing. I did not read, and even if I did, it was the books in my mother-tongue, not in English. Anyway, this really shows that the book is fast-paced and interesting. When in a book slump, I figured out that people should read a children's book or something similar to it. This is because the fast-paced plot used to capture the attention of children can also be useful for others who lost interest of reading. The book is about the Kidd family in Russia, trying to retrieve missing art from all over the world. It's humorous and educational. It provides the message of importance of family, art, and taking action for global warming. I very much enjoyed it and probably would read more of this series later on.
So I liked the three books before this one, so when I got it I was so excited. The other three books take you on a journey of kids doing things by themselves and excelling usually at them. Now, they have there parents back and it just took half of what the books were away. It lost the excitement, because the parents were somewhat slowing the kids down, they can’t realize that their kids have done so many spectacular things with out them there. Now some might be like well it’s because they didn’t want them to get hurt. So what, their parents don’t realize that their kids can get things done with out having to have an adult around, they have done it in the past three books and now the parents just come back in and take over their life again like nothing happened.
I know this is probably not the best review and I’m fine with that, I just needed a place to vent my feelings about this book.

Treasure Hunters: Peril at the Top of the World By: James Patterson
Treasure Hunters: Peril at the Top of the World, by James Patterson, is a realistic fiction book about a family who go on wild adventures. In the family, the parents are retired CIA agents, and with the help of the four kids, are now stopping bad guys. The story takes off in Italy where they are trying to catch art thieves. They end up in Russia and then in Antarctica. This book is funny and it has pictures on some of the pages but the pictures were sometimes weird. The plot of this book was very understandable, but at some parts it was very slow. I would recommend this book to people who like comedy, adventure and action.

This is like The Da Vinci Code for kids, and this is far from being a favorite genre for me, but it does have a snappy plot and lots of adventures so I guess it would be entertaining for those looking for that. I am a bit confused as to what role Tommy is supposed to play in the series since in this book he only serves as an excuse for the author to introduce some very cheesy pickup lines and to create a sort of cardboard portrait of the horny male teenager. In fact, most of the characters are one-dimensional, including the sister who is the one to blurt out exposition which is supposed to add to the educational value of the book (I suppose).
The Treasure Hunter series is great for all readers but especially some that are more reluctant when they look at larger books and feel overwhelmed. The plot moves very quickly in these books with lots of action that keeps pages turning. While Bick tells the story, his twin sister Beck adds illustrations and diagrams which helps to break up the text and supply great ideas to help with visualizing what they are experiencing in the book. I also like the fact that all the kids are really smart but imperfect in one way or another which makes it more accessible to many readers. I've read a number of books from this series and will continue to recommend them to all readers.
Book four in this series is again filled with a cheap plot which feels lime an inferior copy of a really good adventure story. It is like it is there somewhere, and this circles all about it but never reaches it, partly because of weak two dimensional characters, and the necessity to try and push the story alone with zippy chapters and never get bogged down in actual plot and decent book writing, but rushing off to the next scene. Ordinary but not as terrible as other series from Patterson Inc.
