A Brick City Love Story

Ques is doing to much. Shakim was just jealous and stupid all together. How you going to leave your child's mother whose been done with you for so long. I hope Ebony never forgive Keisha. She's nothing but a hood rat. I like Edrise.

When I first started this book I was immediately hit with a sense of Deja' vu and I had to contact the author. Thankfully we found out that this was one that I had read the beginning of for a test read. So once that was settled and I figured out that I need to do a better job remembering what I test read, I was gung-ho about jumping into this book that I've been anticipating since January. Edrise's working man stance was a refreshing in a sea of all things drug-related. This young man had made mistakes in his younger years and quickly realized after getting caught up that a life of crime was definitely not the route that he wanted to take. Unfortunately his younger brother didn't come to this thought and was heavily in the streets. The worst part about that was that he met his demise not because of something that he was actively doing in the streets but because the next no-good for nothing negro was jealous of the favor and hard work he put in to gain his position. Some can say well had he not followed that path then he would have never been in a position to be envied. I beg to differ because snakes are found in all walks of life. So I digress. While we were never given the opportunity to meet Eric due to his untimely demise, he was an integral part to the story. Then we meet Ebony on arguably the worst day of her life. Two of the people that she loved and thought had her best interest at heart, Keisha & Ques, betrayed her in one of the worst ways possible. I won't divulge any specifics because you definitely need to read this one!!! Just know that Ms. Harris took something that on the surface could be seen as a cliche' aspect prevalent in many urban novels and gave us a very different spin on the way that Keisha's emotions were in a tailspin. Ebony being the strong woman that she was raised to be by her Grandmother Loretta was able to withstand and ultimately allow love to make a reappearance in her life in the form of Edrise. Edrise was everything that her low-life ex, Ques, was NOT!!! He taught her what it meant to be with a real man and how real men treat their queens. Overall this was a really good read. I didn't particularly like the way that Ebony begin to move towards the end of the book but faced with similar circumstances I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same. I really can't wait to see what Ms. Harris has in store for us on the Ebony and Edrise front. I do know that I enjoyed seeing a glimpse of Ibn, Malakai, and Chance. It is always refreshing to see the characters that you fell in love with. I must say from initially stumbling across Ms Harris with her In Love with a Street King series that her writing continues to grow and get better. I definitely will be one of the ones watching this young author on the rise. I'm sure that as she continues she will quickly become a force to be reckoned with!!!

Good read

This was a good book. I'm just floored at how the women in the book were so weak over someone that ment them no good. Ques was delusional. He really needed mental help and so do the characters in the book that allowed him to control them thinking it's some type of loyalty.

Ok

It was ok. Ques was doing way too much. I mean way too much. Ebony should forgive Keishs but she should not let that girl back in her life on no type of level. So I'm going to need grandma Loretta (my grandma is named Loretta :)) to back off. Then I need to know why she ain't tell Edrise immediately about Ques. So irritating.

Wow

I loved it from beginning to end. Cherice has really grown as a writer. The character development was on point. A few old faces popped up and I enjoyed that. I can't wait for the next book.

Great from the beginning to the end. Ebony needs to tell Edrise what is going on with Ques. And all the information that he gave her. Her Edrise really make a good couple. Ques is a walking snake. Can't wait for part two.

Dirty

Ques and Keisha are just dirty. Keisha is the worst. I can't believe she did vher friend dirty for a no good man. I hope Edrisa gives Ebony a chance to explain. She should've told him the truth from the jump.
