Okay, I’m just going to start by saying I did NOT mean to make-out with my total enemy’s (smokin’ hot) boyfriend. I swear! I mean, I know it sounds like the perfect revenge, since my total enemy BECAME my total enemy by making out with MY boyfriend (who, you know, became my EX boyfriend after that). Still, even so—I did NOT make out with my enemy’s (hot) boyfriend on purpose. Really! TRULY!!! Not gonna lie, though—Mmmm. Oh man! That kiss … I can’t get it out of my head. Mmm... I have mixed feelings about this book... There were A LOT of things I didn't like, but also other things I liked.
Among the things I didn't like: The writing seemed a little immature (on purpose??). The story went back and forth, first in the present day, then in the past, then in the present, without any warning... for about 2/3 of the story. They were in high school, then in middle school, then even before middle school started, then in middle school again, then... well, you get the picture. It was confusing, to say the least. It got hard to follow the story and remember WHEN that episode actually happened.
Melody... well, she was a bit stupid and naive in my opinion. There is a difference between being a good soul and being outright stupid and blind to the true colors of your BFF's soul. Because let's face it, Blair was Evil incarnate. She was a Demon Envy! She was so full of jealousy and envy and hate that really scared me. Really, this chick needs therapy. Or an exorcist. In fact, the exorcist might even totally solve the problem.
The really frustrating thing is, that Melody SAW this side of Blair, but still CHOSE not to knowledge it, until she witnessed the very worst thing a BFF could do. (Although, Blair had done/said far too many horrible things to Melody even before that ultimate betrayal).
What I liked? Sutter Sinclair. Yummy and so sweet! Too tempting for being so young (ahem, at least too young for ME!). Anyway, I SO LOVED the attraction and sexual tension, and the cute moments, between Sutter and Melody! It was the best part of the book.
Sadly, I don't know how to freaking rate this book. It sure isn't a 4 or 5 stars book. But I'm seriously considering rating it 2 stars. What's keeping me? Sutter. *Sigh*
So, I guess it's a 3 stars, BARELY!, but ONLY because of Deliciously Hot and Sweet Sutter.

I've read several of Melanie Marks's books now. I only read the books set in high school and up, not middle school. I'm a grown woman and while I can handle a little drama and angst in the books I read, middle school level drama and angst is a bit too much for me. That is why I was so disappointed in this book. From the description, it sounds like a high school setting and it is in the very beginning and last quarter, but the whole middle (more than half the book) is a flashback to middle school. It just wasn't my cup of tea. In addition to not liking the middle school flashback portion, I also didn't love the character of Melody (she wasn't much better of a friend than Blair) and I felt the conclusion was a little anti-climatic. One thing I did like though was the character of Sutter and how he was shockingly straightforward about his feelings and what he wanted. Unfortunately, while he is the main love interest for Melody, he isn't really featured strongly in the book. He is frequently the subject of her thoughts or conversation but not frequently who she spends her time with. The book had some redeemable qualities but as a whole, I didn't love it.

Love love love
Love the way this author writes. Love everything about this sweet story. Love melody she is a sweetheart on all levels. I am lots of years beyond my first kiss and crazy ex best friend but this author made me feel it all enjoyed so much. Loved it. Recommend this highly. And note to author you are awesome

What kind of spineless protagonist who is so dumb she just take whatever bs things and reasoning thrown her way?
Who offered her left cheek after being slapped on her right by an obvious manipulator and bitchy 'bestfriend'?
So, yeah. Goodbye!
