Reckoning

Rate this book
After spending most of her life trapped in Hell, Helena relishes her earthly freedom. In order to protect her future, she sets a plan into motion that will help solidify her earthbound status. A major part of her scheme includes keeping Anna and her unborn children alive. It’s an endeavor that has proven challenging and nearly impossible at times. As Helena attempts to placate those who would much rather see her sister dead than alive, she realizes her plan needs to be accelerated in order to guarantee its success.

Anna is forced to face the fact that her unborn children are taking charge of their own fate. She feels betrayed by them when they choose to entrust their lives to Helena by phasing them to her domain. Unable to control their actions, Anna must learn how to deal with the aftermath of their decision. The reasoning behind their choice to include Lucas in their plans becomes clear to Anna in a frightening and unexpected way.

As Malcolm prepares to rescue Anna and Lucas, he knows one thing for a fact: Once he and his friends enter Helena’s realm, she will fight them every inch of the way. In order to win his family back, Malcolm knows they’ll have to play by her rules. No memory can stay hidden from Helena while they’re inside her domain, and Malcolm knows she will try to weaken him by taking advantage of the guilt he still harbors for past sins. Everyone has a moment in their lives they would rather keep hidden from those they love, but when you’re battling a creature that thrives on guilt and sin, your deepest, darkest secrets can be used as weapons against you.

As the events in Reckoning unfold, secrets are revealed that could either destroy the bonds of friendships forever or make them stronger than they were before. Only one thing remains certain: no one will leave Hell unchanged.

Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.

The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.

I couldn't this book down, I loved it... every time I think I know what Helena is going to do, she surprises me.. I hope that Raven and Gods talk with her starts to sink in, she does seem to have som stood qualities in her, especially when she saw the tantrums that her ulterior earth was throwing.... maybe that will show her something, but who knows....

We will just have to continue on this wonderful journey that S.J. west has brought us on..
I am so hooked on these books and can't wait to start the next one...

Speechless!!!

This book.....wow! I am left completely speechless by everything that happened in this book. There was a lot of action, suspense, and heartbreak. So many secrets were also revealed by everyone and at the end i definitely cried after Cades goodbye. I'm not sure what to think about Helena, i keep going back and forth with her, but I'm definitely nervous for what she will do next. I'm also relieved Anna got her baby girl back, as a mom that was devastating. This book kept me at the edge of my seat the whole, by far the best one!!!!

Good continuation of the series

I wonder just how much pain and strife two people can have in a given amount of time. They have only been together for a little over a year. I guess the old saying hat doesn't kill you makes you stronger really applies to these two.

Reckoning is captivating...

What happens when it turns out that Hell, or the embodiment of Hell, Helena, has a sister that is expecting twins and also has a soul mate pure of heart? A captivating story that I could hardly put down, Reckoning Book 2 in the Dominion Saga continues to deliver an amazing and twisted tale of the warriors of Heaven battling it out with the minions of Hell to protect the human race from the destructive influence of the rebellion angels. Now that Lucifer has found redemption the rebellion angels want revenge for all they have lost by following Lucifer. Why should he get the rewards of Heaven? So who do they target? Anna and the twins of course but in an unexpected twist Helena’s selfish mission is to protect her sister, her end game is yet to be determined.

SJ West does what she does best by weaving a tale as old as time of good vs evil, heaven vs Hell. The twists and turns that take place are genius. The insight that is gained into those that team up to go to Hell to rescue Anna and Lucas back from Helena’s grasp is well placed and much needed. As far as I’m concerned Helena and Lucas kind of stole the show. As much as I hate to admit it, I totally loved how complex Helena has become. West does it again and hits it out of the park. I totally loved Reckoning and cannot wait to get my hands on Enduring as the complete story is yet to unfold and I, for one, am one captivated reader.

Continuing in her exploration of the Watcher world, author S.J. West adds Reckoning to the second trilogy of Malcom and Anna’s story.

I like the way that West uses consistent themes that tie all of the Watcher sagas and series together. The first is destiny, which ties all of the Watcher books together, across time and dimensions. Each character and plot device plays a part in the overall grand design. The potential for redemption is another theme that spans the entirety of the Watcher universe. This book also draws heavily on Helena’s need for love and acceptance, especially by her father, and the consequences due to a the lack thereof. Jealousy, a problem with which Lucifer dealt for several millennia, is Helena’s driving force.

I do not particularly care for the way that West tries to develop so many different characters. I think that the main characters’ developments are hindered by the attempt to deepen so many. I am also not a fan of books written in multiple POVs. I don’t mind two, but a multitude of voices becomes a bit too divisive in a book that is under 300 pages.

I like the way that West ends the book. It is not necessarily a cliffhanger. Instead, it is a situation that requires me to imagine the many potential implications. It makes me think. I can appreciate a story that can do that. I am looking forward to the release of Enduring, the final book in this saga. Reckoning gets 4 stars from me.

Outstanding again!!!!!

I love this series and am so excited that the author has decided to continue with it even after Malcolm finally found his soul mate. In addition she wrote the alternate earth series then too but she has introduced some new Angels that hopefully we will get to follow them out through a series also. But we still have a handful of original guardian angels that have not found their soul mates yet and hopefully there are stories there left to tell. If all of these stories get written we won't have to say goodbye to our favourite Angels. Hmmmm.......I do hope so. But getting to the book....I don't write synopses of books...I hate when I read a recommendation and somebody starts to write what happened in the book. This is about did I as a reader enjoy the story---Absolutely, it was well written as all of her books are with a rare mistake in spelling, grammar etc. The plot was well thought out and the story just flowed just like all of them. Please keep writing this series for a long time to come. And thanks for bringing back some of our favorites from time to time...absolutely love some of the new characters being introduced but there's nothing like the oldies but goodies !!!!!!

Old friends, great story.

We once again get to see old friends, like Jess, Mason, and Lucifer; while the storyline and character development goes on for certain war angels and Helena.
We see the hero Malcolm is. And we cry with them to find out his worst memory.
We go to Helena's domain and learn a lot more about the war angels.
We also return for a short time to alternative earth and get to see a little what has gone on there for the last thousand years.
I was also happy that this series feels on par with the original three. The characters feel exciting and certain parts had me laughing and crying.
I just found these series a week ago and can't get enough. Definitely worth reading and.getting invested in. S.J. West is a tremendous writer.

Another fantastic book from SJ West. I have to say, she is becoming one of my all time favorite writers. I've been reading this series from the beginning and I just love them and all of their characters.
This part of the story has Anna still pregnant with the twins. For some reason, the twins keep transporting Anna to Helena, Anna worse enemy. Well, the twins have a lot more surprises for their parents. When they transport her and Lucas to Hell and straight to Helena, Helena takes to opportunity to hold them in Hell. Malcolm and the angels have to go to Hell to try and find her and are met with several challenges they have to meet in order to get to Anna.
A lot of excitement and a lot of 'can't put it down' happening in this book. I can't wait to start 'Enduring'!

I can't help but devour each Watcher book as soon as they come out ! This review contains mild spoilers ! Book 2 in the Dominion saga starts out right where Awakening left off. Anna is trapped with Lucas and her unborn twins in hell with Helena. Malcolm and crew will risk anything to rescue them. So many twists and turns and I honestly didn't see the twist at the end. Some of my favourite moments include Helenas interaction with God and Jess' secret interaction with Lucifer. Cade is really starting to impress me and I can't wait to see what lies ahead of him in his current predicament

S.J. West brings us another emotional rollercoaster ride. Anna and Malcolm must fight for their love and there family.. They are tested on both emotional and physical levels and must fight to survive.. Of course in the thick of things Helena is there trying to cause Mayhem and trouble. This story is great, so full of emotions with all the characters, and I love that she integrated some characters from the past that know and love. As with all these books it's full of twists and turns tears and laughter, it's an amazing read!

Wow

They just keep getting better. I have read all of this series to date, some two or three times and each time they bring me so much pleasure.
The Watcher and War Angels are all gorgeous. Lily's descendants all bring their A game and can kick some butt.
The Rebellion Angels are bad pass and need their butt kicked. Helena is a confused villain, I can never figure out her next move.
If you love a great series, this is it, I can guarantee it will be difficult to put down.
I am now anxiously the next book, I hope they never end!

Jess and mason are allowed to return from heaven to help Malcolm get Anna and Lucas back from Helena. Anna has to make a deal with Helena not to kill Malcolm and the others. They will have to endure many challenges. Helena shows their memories of their secrets and greatest regrets trying to tear them apart. Another surprising addition cone to hell to help save Anna and the children. It gives. Little look into somethings that happened up until now and of course a surprise ending just like always. Book 2 in the Dominion Saga series does not disappoint...

This book is largely from Helena's point of view, what does Hell itself think??? Well we get a peak into her mind, which is sometimes a VERY scary place.

Malcolm and Anna play a large part in the book, along with a few other surprises I was not expecting...

I just LOVE SJ and all her books... The characters really take root into my heart and feel like family...

Can't wait for the next book!!!!

Wow. So many surprises and unexpected appearances. I love the way how she connected all the worlds and characters. The unexpected twist with Liana. The memories of what haunts the war angels, Gabe! I found myself reading this book slowly because I didn't want to miss a connection. SJ West truly knows how to hook an audience. Well done! Can't wait to read the next book.
