Diego was used to all of the perks of being the son of a kingpin, however everything crashed around him when his father, Ramone, decided it was time to groom him to take over the throne. But one thing Ramone knows is that a hustler is nothing without a woman by his side, so he pushes him to find a rider to make his wife before he can take his place as a leader in the streets. Diego agrees for the sake of earning the position that he was born to take on but when he meets a certain woman, things don't quite turn out the way he planned it.
Christina isn’t the least bit glamorous and doesn’t give money so much as a second glance. The only thing on her agenda is caring for her elderly mother and working to provide for them both without any help. Unfortunately, Ramone isn’t the only parent who wants the best for his child. Regina, Christina’s mother, urges her to try to win Diego's heart in order to solidify their happiness. Christina isn't having it but she later agrees but her mother's plan backfires.
When Christina discovers that she's not the only one fighting to be by Diego's side, will she fight or will she fold? Can she make him see the good in having less and not too much? Or will Diego throw away any intention of marrying to stay the bachelor that he loves being? Though these questions are answered, there are just too many people who hold knives, ready to either stab Diego in the back for his money… or slit Christina’s throat for the title she’s striving to earn.
I don't think Ms. Regina knew what she was signing her daughter up for. Although she had done it with the best intentions. Christina was a true definition of how a child is suppose to be towards her parents. Although her whole life was all about taking care of her mother, working and going to school. She didn't realize how soon she was about to find out what is was like to be taken on a roller coaster of emotions behind a man who she couldn't stand do to their first encounter. It was easy to see why Diego had no respect for his mother Markeisha. He also held resentment towards his father until Ramone let him know why he was so hard on him. I don't think Ramone realize that nothing good will come out of this competition. Markeisha was truly a money hungry tramp and stooped and any level to get it. Something seems kind of off with Dena. Angel is letting jealousy cloud his judgment
Ms. Sunny Giovanni has been a staple on my bookshelf for quite some time. This writer is really one of my favorites and I'm glad to see the emergence of a new novel. Now this book is one that pretty much kept me on my toes from beginning to end. The main characters Diego and Christina were extremely well developed and complex. Ms Christina embodied the true spirit of a child that every mother wishes she has the opportunity to nurture and see grow. The story was actually intriguing from beginning to end. To read about Christina who was only 19 years of age, take on the responsibility of working, going to school, and caring for her ailing mother was awe-inspiring. To watch the metamorphosis of Diego as he blossomed from a boy into a man that understood life, what he wanted and didn’t want out of it was a wonderful thing to read. I definitely could relate to Christina and in some ways to Diego as well. He didn’t ask to be born into the tumultuous relationship that his mother and father had. In many ways they shaped the man that he became prior to him meeting Christina. He was afraid of ever allowing anyone close enough to wreck the level of havoc that his mother brought into his father’s life. Of course I disliked Markeisha, Dena, and Angel. Markeisha and Dena for obvious reasons. They were cut from the same cloth. But Angel’s character was surprising. You expect the type of betrayal that he leveled on Diego from females. I honestly didn’t see it coming that he would come to resent and envy his childhood friend. I think that Diego pegged him right on the money. As long as Diego was oblivious, frivolously footing the bill, and was holding the position of the court jester so to speak, then Angel was fine with his antics. The moment he saw his friend getting himself together all of a sudden it was an issue and problem. So for me Angel was the most disliked character of them all. Ms Giovanni DEFINITELY did not disappoint. I was captivated from beginning to end and ready for more the moment I got to the very last page. I can't wait to read more about all of these intriguing characters. My hat is off to you Ms. Giovanni because you definitely outdid yourself with the beginning of what I can only say will be a magnificent series!!!!!
I loved this story. Christina a devoted daughter to her mother only wants to make sure that she takes good care of her sickly mother. Christina's mother wants her daughter to find a man, so she enters her in a contest. Dutch father wants him to find a good lady to settle down with. He also want him to learn his business and make his own money so he cuts him off. There's love, betrayal and a whole lot more that going on. One click to see if Dutch can grab the stubborn Christina and make her his lady. Great job Sunny Giovanni. Anxiously waiting for part 2.
First off let me say I haven't wrote a review in months but after reading this book I felt the need to. This book was a CERTIFIED BANGER and really a breath of fresh air. It was different yet alluring. I enjoyed every page and shed a few tears when it came to a end. I cannot wait for the next installment I hope you don't keep me waiting to long. All in all LOVED IT.
The title for the storyline perfectly. Diego is wild spoiled living off daddy money and now he has to step up. Chrissy has no clue what her mother set up for her but she only wants her to live for herself. Chrissy changes Diego for the best but shes so stubborn tho I wanted to slap her a few times. Diego steps up but will he be happy after his own mother plots against him.
Again I never leave reviews just 3-4 occasionally 5 stars but this was so good. I read the whole thing in on sitting. Loved the character development and how we got insight on the past without going back in the past. Man that Keisha smh can't wait for part two. Sometimes it takes a few months and u don't remember the title characters or anything .....this I will definitely remembet
What a pleasant story of innocence and love I was so excited reannexed it just made me feel giddy inside the storyline was excellent the characters I come to love him that mom is a thought you should blanket we should meet soon enough and I even come the light pops and jealousy sure don't look good on Oldboy there with a friend he turned out to be out freaking standing moving on the part two Hala
I loved Diego and Christina they belong together. It was good to see how he grew up and stepped up finally. I like how Ramone forced him to earn his way. He was determined to make his son man up. This was a good love story filled with action and drama. I can't wait to see what happens next. Diego's mother and Dena will be bringing the drama.
This read had its ups and downs . I did enjoy the way that Diego and Christina fell in love .I can't wait for Markiesha to get what she deserves she the devil in heels all she cares about herself . I will read part 2 I need to know what happens .
This was a great read... It lead me through different emotions and was well put together... I don't know what the hell Dutch's mom got going on but she need to get it together.... Can't wait for part two because I'm pretty sure it's gonna be some stuff
I wish this was a stand-alone....It was good and I enjoyed it but it could've been a good stand-alone. It had some typical parts and it was somewhat different but it was a good read.
This was a good read. I like Christina for Dutch, and I hope they make it work and stay together after everything that's about to happen with Dena and that baby. I can't wait to read book 2.
