I'm someone who never had any 'talent' for drawing, but I decided to googled if drawing was a learnable skill on a whim and found out it was. So, I bought pencils and a sketchbook and looked for various textbooks on how to learn to draw. I was immediately drawn to this textbook as it showed the steps to complete drawings. And it also featured a wide range of subjects. Starting with simple fruits and slowly advancing to flowers, landscape, animals (cats, dogs, horses), human faces, anatomy, children, still life and other extra advice on composition, drawing from life etc.
And honestly, this was perfect for me. It was a lengthy book and took me almost 2 years to complete, but when I go through my sketchbooks, I'm filled with pride. The instructions are simple and detailed. I could not have asked for a better book to begin my drawing journey with. I've been forced to draw a wide array of subjects and already have an idea what things I enjoy drawing. I can't wait to put all the practice into drawing things outside the textbook. Learning to draw makes you view the world differently. I'm also checking the shape language, how light interacts with various objects, and I like to imagine how I would capture those differences in my sketchbook. Now, I can start doing just that.

Decent book but…

It is lacking in many aspects. There aren’t enough step by step, and any of the ones that do, are hard to follow. It’s got decent information, and would be a nice book to add to other better drawing books.

This book is not for the complete beginner, it is not truly step by step. I did enjoy looking through it and getting ideas and inspiration.
