When your heart makes a wish, even impossible dreams can come true.
Viola After years of working for my family’s business, I’m finally back in college and ready to chase my dream of becoming a perfumer. It seems like the stars are all aligning when Chancellor College invites a preeminent French fragrance expert to speak at a symposium. Everything is working out just right, as long as I can continue to ignore my growing feelings for a certain hippie beekeeper. That, it seems, is turning out to be easier said than done.
Rayne The elders sent me on a mission to Chancellor to help Alice, owner of the local bagel shop, find true love. So far? Well, not so good. The bees and I have to double up our efforts if we have any hope of helping our girl find the road to happiness. While I know Alice should be my priority one, my heart, however, seems to have a mind of its own. If I could just get Viola Hunter out of my mind, I could focus on my task. That, it seems, is turning out to be easier said than done.
The Bee Charmer is a fractured fairy tale. Enjoy this twisted retelling of the classic Cinderella story.
Lose yourself in Poppy Lawless' enchanting town of Chancellor, a magical place where fairy tales can come true and happily ever afters always reign supreme.
The Bee Charmer is a stand-alone novella and part of The Chancellor Fairy Tales, a series of romantic fairy tales for adults. This novel can be read on its own, but you'll get the most enjoyment from this series if the works are read in order.
New York Times and USA Today best-selling historical fantasy author Melanie Karsak is the author of the Celtic Blood series, Steampunk Red Riding Hood, Steampunk Fairy Tales, the Road to Valhalla Series, and other works of fantasy and fiction. The author currently lives in Florida with her husband and two children.
I listened to this from Audiobook Boom in exchange for a fair review... blah blah blah. Viola and Rayne. A lot is left unsaid in the story. Like I have no idea how old Rayne is. I assume fairies don't live extra long lives?? It's not really important to the story, just wondered.... Viola is human and lives next door to Rayne who has lived in town for several years at least (it's unclear how many). He is the male version of a fairy god mother. His job as given by the Fairy counsel is to help his friend Alice find love. But it is hard to do as Alice tends to be impulsive and Rayne's attention is constantly distracted by his growing attraction to Viola. The story is about as stress free as you can get, but still kinda sweet. I won't say I wasn't a bit bored here and there, but somehow I didn't mind. I loved Rayne's bees and how they were a part of his magic. Does Rayne ever tell Viola about himself? The story never goes that far... Over all it was sweet and nice, but I felt it could have been more. If you aren't going to add in obstacles for the characters to overcome, then you might want to flesh out your world building with more interesting details. Holly Jackson, the reader was good for the most part, although sometimes sounded like she was reading a recipe.
I enjoyed this novella a bit more than the first 2. I liked the change of the fairy godmother from Cinderella into a man and Rayne's helpers are bees. Adorable read.
Talk about a wonderful accidental surprise. I came across Melanie Karsak by accident. I read The Cupcake Witch and couldn’t get enough. The Chancellor Fairy Tale series is magical and one that makes you want to immerse yourself into the town and the lives of the people who live there.
I became intrigued and possibly fell hard for Rayne in The Cupcake Witch. I couldn't wait for his story. Admittedly, his heroine wasn't who I thought it would be. I was hoping for Alice but I see why she wasn’t selected.
Rayne is a fairy godfather who is also a beekeeper. He actually has the ability to communicate with bees. He arrived in Chancellor a couple of years ago to help Alice find her true love. Unfortunately, he hasn’t found “the one”. Now his attention is being diverted by Viola Hunter, his best friend Horatio's sister. Viola is finally coming into her own. She’s returned to college and is about to embark on an opportunity of a lifetime, to further the career she’s only dreamed of. With so much going on in her life, she isn’t expecting love to actually find her.
The Fairy Godfather has two love connections going on within it. It appears Rayne just might be successful in finally finding “the one” for Alice. You also have Rayne and Viola finally admitting their feelings for each other. I liked the story but.....I would have preferred these two love connections to have their own separate books and not be incorporated together. The story ends with a happy for now, promising happy ever afters down the line. It definitely leaves the door open for another book. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Melanie has in store for us.
**Received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.**
I can't get enough of this author and of this series. This time around we get to learn about Rayne and Viola and I loved it so much that I stayed up to finish it in one reading. I continue to be captivated...no enraptured my this author's creativity and and I swear that she has magical abilities. The story line is breathtaking and the characters are all beautiful and come to life right in front of your very eyes.
When you read a book written by this author it feels like she's written it just for you and I know that you will simply love this book and the series and I highly recommend them to one and all. Don't put off reading this enthralling series that's full of magic and love any longer!!
The town of Chancellor is home to many magical places and people. One of then is Rayne, a fae and acts as a fairy godfather in the love the department. His current assignment, local restaurant owner and friend, Alice has run off other fairy godparents and he isn't about to be run off. But he is admittedly distracted by his best friend's sister Viola. He needs to focus on his friend but a little daydreaming hasn't hurt anything yet. And maybe it's time for him to chase his dream. Viola is finally able to get back to achieving her goals. Her father has taken control back of the company while he dealt with his grief, her brother is finally following his passions, and now it is time for her. And for some reason hers are starting to include her brother's best friend. An unexpected opportunity presents itself and she is torn on the timing of it. Can she have all.she wants or will something have to give?
Yet another quick, cozy read by this author. I started with book 2 and it was fun to see how this one and book 3 were so intertwined. Very loose connections with the Cinderella story but the pieces are there. Low stakes tension with no massive miscommunication driving it which was nice. A very cute friends to lovers story for anyone needing a quick pick me up.
Are there going to be more in this series? Please tell me there will be more? I am in-love with the books in the Chancellor Fairy Tale series, they are very light, fluffy, short reads and the perfect books for me to read either before or after I read something heavy. I've read all 3 of the books in the series and loved them all. The Glass Mermaid being my favorite, then The Cupcake Witch and lastly The Bee Charmer. Everyone has feel good books that are their go-tos and this series has definitely become mine. I just love the magical town of Chancellor, I wish I could live there.
Most of Viola's story was resolved in The Cupcake Witch, so she's not as interesting a character here. If you liked her then, she might coast on that momentum. Rayne is really lovable and helms our exploration of the magic of Chancellor this book. He's the assigned fairy godfather of the bagel shop lady, Alice. He's friends with another fairy godparent in town and you get a feel for what they do as a whole.
Rayne works with bees and honey while Viola wants to work with perfume, so there's a lot of scent description in this book. Scent is so neglected in most prose, the focus is really refreshing.
So glad I got this book through Kindle Unlimited, and didn't have to pay for it. Had I paid for it, I would've made myself read the darn thing! The first two books caught my interest right off, with this one, I'm having a very hard time finding anything interesting in it. If a book doesn't pique my interest in the first two to three chapters, I just don't bother reading it. Big disappointment with this book.😔
3rd in a series of 5 novellas. The author's spin on a Fairy Godmother to make it a father and all the little characterization she gives this character is a pleasant change. It's a Dual POV, HEA. I love all the characters this author has created for this beautiful little town of Chancellor. The setting and characters really are so charming. All the characters in the previous stories do make appearances in all the books. Easy to read, easy to enjoy.
I loved getting to hear about love for the fairy god father for once. Usually the story focuses on whoever is the "godchild" but this was a nice twist on the usual. Hollie did a wonderful job voicing Viola and Rayne. The bits of Cinderella splashed in here and there made the story even more wonderful to listen to.
This was a sweet story with a cute role reversal and a nice Fae element. It was a little too picture perfect for me with no major problems to solve or dilemmas to consider, everything seem to fall into place. I really loved the bee elements in this and learnt a little more about them through it.
Third installment of a series , charming read , liked that a male lead was in this one and the author wrap up a story from the second book , sweet fast romance read , if want something light and sweet
These stories are magical, innocent and beautifully describe every scene. After reading all three, the characters feel like friends. I even looked up Chancellor Falls, wanting to go there. 😀
You'll likely enjoy this series of reimagined tales that are as sweet as can be & do a good job of pulling you into the story. That said, I'd like to see Rayne more fleshed-out; he seemed a bit flat, and weak.
Such a wonderful series of adult fairy tales. Wonderfully crafted and edited. Thank you. It would be lovely if you wrote more as the characters populating the tales were wonderful. Vivid and lovely.
I am just loving Chancellor!! I thought this was going to be a two for one deal, but there was even a third romance in there! This one made me so happy! I can’t wait to jump right into the next in the series!
Did Melanie give us two sweet love stories while sneaking in the possibility of a third? Absolutely yes. Rayne is my favorite resident of Chancellor so I was happy to read his story!
Sweet love story in a magical location. Interesting characters, nice descriptions of the town of Chancellor and its surroundings. Well written and makes me want to read the rest of the series.
Another charming installment in the Magic in Chancellor series!
I just love how magical and cozy each of these books are! My favorite part is how each story is connected, and past characters always make an appearance, or are at least mentioned.
Even though I have enjoyed all of the books so far, I have to say that 2 & 3 definitely weren’t as deep and meaningful as the first one. They’ve been much lighter, with lower stakes. But still very fun and whimsical romances that I read quickly, nonetheless.
Although the thing that is making me a bit uncomfortable is that every character has been white and straight so far. I’m really hoping the series will become more inclusive at some point.
3 Stars = I like it... But these are very light and I wish that the second romance which is mostly off screen would have had it's own book so that this romance could have had a bit more depth.
