Media Mogul, Cormac Sheenan, had no desire to become a family man, but when his two year old goddaughter, Daisy, is orphaned, he adopts her, moving her from Montana to his home in Southern California, and becomes a devoted single father, juggling parenting duties with running his successful publishing, TV, and radio enterprise.
But two years later a frightening incident at Daisy’s school, shakes Cormac, and he decides to move Daisy–and his business–back to Montana where life is simpler and he has family nearby.
Now four, precocious Daisy strikes up an unlikely friendship with Marietta’s seasonal Santa Claus, and believes he’s the real thing, even though Cormac points out to her that this jolly old Kris Kringle is renting a room at Bramble House, not living at the North Pole. Daisy’s not worried but Cormac is as Rent-a-Santa has promised his innocent daughter she’ll have a mommy for Christmas.
Cormac is livid with Kris. He’s not at all ready to settle down, and he’s definitely not getting back together with his old flame Whitney Alder, so Santa can stop playing match maker as it’d take a miracle to make him fall in love, never mind marriage material.
But that’s exactly the kind of miracle our angelic Santa Claus has planned…

Born in Visalia, California, I'm a small town girl at heart. I love central California's golden foothills, oak trees, and the miles of farmland. In my mind, there's nothing sweeter in the world than the heady fragrance of orange blossoms on a sultry summer night.
As a little girl I spent hours on my bed, staring out the window, dreaming of far off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. In my imagination I was never the geeky bookworm with the thick coke-bottle glasses, but a princess, a magical fairy, a Joan-of-Arc crusader.
My parents fed my imagination by taking our family to Europe for a year when I was thirteen. The year away changed me (I wasn't a geek for once!) and overseas I discovered a huge and wonderful world with different cultures and customs. I loved everything about Europe, but felt especially passionate about Italy and those gorgeous Italian men (no wonder my first very Presents hero was Italian).
I confess, after that incredible year in Europe, the travel bug bit, and bit hard. I spent much of my high school and college years abroad, studying in South Africa, Japan and Ireland. South Africa remains a country of my heart, the people, the land and politics complex and heart-wrenching.
After my years of traveling and studying I had to settle down and earn a living. With my Bachelors degree from UCLA in American Studies, a program that combines American literature and American history, I've worked in sales and marketing, as well as a director of a non-profit foundation. Later I earned my Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and taught jr. high and high school English.
I now live in Seattle and Hawaii with my three sons. I never mind a rainy day, either, because that's when I sit at my desk and write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly of all, love. I like a story with a happy ending. We all do.
3 Marietta Powered Christmas Stars * * * I happen to love these Marietta Montana books by all the authors involved. They are the type of escape which are usually heartwarming and have a sneaky life lesson attached. They make small town living in the great state of Montana something special.
With this entry, though, it wasn't any part of Marietta which was the down side...the down side was the mountain of redemption our fella needed to do in order for us to root for him and his HEA. Our main gal also had some conflicting feelings which caused me to wonder how all of this was supposed to come together.
This was loosely based on the idea of the Miracle of 34th Street. In the original movie, we had a single mom who worked at Macy's in New York and her daughter wanted to believe in Santa but the Mom was more cynical due to her life. She is alone romantically and during the movie she meets her HEA, deals with whether there is a real Santa and has her daughter believe in the end. All comes together with all of the sweetness and humor of the times in 1947. There have been remakes and updates over the years... but the 1947 movie is the standard and classic.
In this twist, it is one of the Sheenan Brothers from Marietta, Cormac, who is the cynic and non believer. He was the brother of the family who had to grow up and become strong fast...for at one time his soft heart loved his mom in a very deep special way. Through his eyes, he saw the sadness and pain his mom carried with her... her wishing things were different with his father... wishing he loved her like she deserved...So young Cormac would go to her... bringing her affection and love...with her giving it right back. It caused him to be teased by his older brothers and made him see the only way to be was strong, focused, watchful and strategic.
He took those traits and became a Media Mogul acquiring all types of communication companies, then stripping them apart and letting vital talented people go. This pattern allowed his businesses to grow and expand.
It also caused him to cross paths with Whitney Alder. First she was with her best friend April from Kindergarten in a bar celebrating. From a distance, Cormac lays eyes on her... and that was all they wrote...as the saying goes....He was taken by her spark and beauty. She gave off smarts in all that she said and he was going to figure out how to become "close" friends. They do go out to dinner but it's complicated from the start; Cormac just bought the magazine were she works and she felt she shouldn't date the boss. Somehow these two become an item, though they kept it professional during working hours.
Time goes by and she is smitten with him. He is too and this is not the usual way for Cormac. He does not do relationships. They were having the one year anniversary and a few weeks later, Cormac tells Whitney that it was nice but it has run its course....
Classy....
Fast forward and we learn that over the years, Whitney has left Cormac's companies only to have the companies she moved to be bought by Cormac later. She is currently working at one of his companies but only because she is in Denver and he is in Los Angeles. She has no desire to work with him, let alone be in the same room with him.
All of this is about to change. Cormac has been raising Daisy as a single parent since she was about two. Her parents, one who happened to be Whitney's April died in a car crash. Cormac was named in the will as the sole guardian, something which Whitney couldn't understand. April had talked repeatedly that if anything should ever happen, she would want Whit to take care of Daisy...she was her Goddaughter and held April's hand all through pregnancy and birth.
What took place to drive a bigger wedge between Cormac and Whitney was the legal battles they both fought regarding Daisy's custody. Whit fought with all her might in the courts but Cormac won.
Cormac experiences a major event with Daisy in Los Angeles which changes his perspective on everything. He decides he wants to raise Daisy in Marietta and proclaims his company's headquarters are moving to Marietta. He will pay for those executives and employees to move with him... but the company is going and will reopen in January.
Whitney has moved up the corporate ladder and is highly regarded by her team, boss and even Cormac. This move, though, is not for her. There are too many memories ... hurtful ones and also painful romantic ones for her to deal with back in Marietta. She hands in her notice to HR and it going to look for a new position somewhere. She loved this one but she just cannot handle being around Cormac...too many painful memories...the cold way he broke up with her, the fighting her for full custody of Daisy and his cold, cold heart.
When confronted by Cormac about not going to Marietta, he reminds her the severance packet which would set her up with important funding for the transition time, is contingent of her going to Marietta and working with the construction of the new headquarters. After some back and forth, she gives in and goes to Marietta... she wants to spend time with Daisy, now 4, and this is the only way.
As the tale goes on, there is a "Khris Cringles" who will be the town's Santa this year. Daisy has taken to him and Cormac is not pleased about it. Everyone adores him and he seems to have answers for every important question asked.
Over the course of the building, Whitney and Cormac become sort of friends... and then there is this internal conversation both have worrying about all these feelings they are having for each other.
This book has charm with all of the Christmas doings in Marietta. Readers who have read past books of this series will recognize characters, places and connections.
I felt a little like Scrooge writing this review; I got what the author was going for...it just was layered with too much bad blood between both leads for me to buy in. Cormac's past behavior with this woman was just cruel; I understand people make mistakes and need forgiveness, etc. But for me....I didn't get Whitney at all.
Daisy was adorable, Santa the best and Marietta still held on to its charm.

If you love to read a superb, heart warming festive romance, stop reading this review and get yourself a copy of this book to read instead!
This is the fifth story involving the Sheenan family from Marietta, Montana and a brilliant story. The Daisy in the title is now four years old and has already lost both her parents in a tragic car accident when she was just two years old. Her parents had made their friend and her godfather, Cormac Sheenan, her guardian – much to the dismay of her godmother, his ex-girlfriend, Whitney. Whitney contested the guardianship in court but lost and has seen nothing of him or Daisy in the intervening time. Now she’s moving with his company to Marietta though only till her resignation notice runs out but hopes to see Daisy again whilst they are all there.
Cormac Sheenan is a media mogul who has has adopted Daisy and truly loves her. When a gunman causes a lockdown at Daisy’s kindergarten, Cormac has had enough of city life and plans to move the headquarters of his business to his hometown of Marietta in Montana. On their flight to Marietta the man sat across from them has a long curly white beard, a jovial demeanour and Daisy immediately recognises he is Santa! She goes to ask him for something special for Christmas but won’t tell Cormac just what she wants . . .
This is a moving festive story as the little girl’s godparents reconnect, past events are revisited and love is given a second chance. Just don’t expect anything to go smoothly for these characters – it is only with the intervention of Santa that they’ll ever stand a chance to achieve their HEA!
A lovely addition to the stories set in Marietta, Montana, with events, people and places mentioned in other stories also having roles to play in this one. It is an enthralling, entertaining and well written, fantastic festive read that I loved and have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who is looking to read a very moving second chance festive romance.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
My thanks to NetGalley and Tule Publishing for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
SPOILERS FOLLOW.
Let me start off by saying that this isn't a bad book. The plot, while drama-filled, is followable, the characters, while annoying in their drama, are believable and Daisy and Santa, while sugary-sweet, really are quite cute.
I just think I may be a bit too cynical and bitter for a book of this genre. The drama didn't speak to me. The initial negative didn't seem overly realistic. I actually spent a few moments before going to bed trying to figure out how the accident could have happened to have spared the female MC and it wasn't computing.
Then the male MC being a HUGE JERK re:custody of the little girl, yet being a sympathetic man two years later? Not overly believable. I don't care that he had two years to mellow and un-Grinch with the adorable little girl, I just don't buy it.
And I'm sorry, but if I loved someone, been with them for a year, they dropped me COLD, then I fought them for custody and they WON and NEVER let me see the little girl I loved so much, love dies REAL quick. Having had an experience with the whole, I love you one day then drop you the next, I can tell you that while it does take time, love does die when it's not being fed. In this instance, it was being fed poison. So the love after all that time really wasn't believable to me.
I think I have gone through too many difficult life experiences to be able to read a book like this without having issues with it. This is NOT the book's fault, but mine. It was well written and the small town was very sweet. The descriptions were there, but it wasn't enough to grab me and involve me in the characters.
This was also my first book from the series that I have read, so not knowing a lot of the secondary characters might have hurt my enjoyment of the book. They were explained, no problem there, but I didn't have a tie to them from earlier books.
All in all, a cute "Christmas miracle" story. If you are into the trope of horrible stuff happens and then magical HEA, with Christmas (in this case, Santa was the magic, not God, though God did get a few mentions, He wasn't the star) as the magical factor, a cute little angel of a child wishing for a mommy and love that lives no matter what, then this is the book for you.
Three stars, because I know it's me and not the book re: not liking it fantastically. I wouldn't be against suggesting it in the store to the right person.
Christmas Miracle For Daisy by Jane Porter This Sheenan family book is about Cormac, Mac to his friends. He is a single dad to a beautiful girl Daisy. He's just gotten a call, school lockdown, shooter on site. His worse nightmare-he can't get to her....he's decided to just up and leave CA and head for Montana. He'd move his company and family to a safe place. Story also follows Whitney who's part of the Sheenan media company. She's learned about her sick leave return that the boss had something to inform all of them. She's been through many company takeovers and it's always Sheenan media company who is doing the buying-bringing in their own people, putting her out of a job. She does date Mac for several years but broke up when her BFF and husband died leaving just Mac to take care of their daughter, Daisy. What I like about this book is that she is able to keep in touch with Daisy with the girlygirl gifts she's been sending over the years, not letting the fact that she didn't get custody/guardianship take control of Daisy Love the fact he's willing to move heaven and earth to make her safe-with family and relatives around. Love how they participate in small town traditions to bring everybody together to share in the holiday joy. With Kris Krinkle in town maybe a little magic, hope and faith, will find it's way to unite them all together, once again during the Christmas season.... When the book starts out it is with a school tragedy and it's great the author can turn the story around so you don't even think about the tragedy by the end. Feel good story that you will treasure with all the turmoil these days in the world.
If you read only one Christmas book this year, let this be the one.
After a tragedy occurs at Daisy’s school, media mogul and single dad Cormac Sheenan's decides it's time to leave California and move back home to the safe small town of Marietta, Montana. He is also relocating his company’s corporate offices to Marietta.
Whitney Alder, Creative Directer of Sheenan Media, once loved Cormac, but he broke her heart and she prefers to keep her distance from him. She doesn't want to move back to Montana where she was raised. There are too many painful memories there. With some persuasion, Whitney agrees to go to Marietta, but only temporarily, to help prepare the office for the employees and spend some time with Daisy, her god-daughter. Working with Cormac gets to be difficult for Whitney when she feels the attraction growing between them again. She loves Daisy and enjoys the time she gets to spend with her, but is it worth it when she has to see Cormac every day?
Christmas is a time for happiness and miracles often happen. Will there be a miracle in Marietta for Whitney, Cormac and Daisy?
This heartwarming tale had me hooked from the very beginning. Daisy was the perfect little girl and Cormac a wonderful father who will do anything to keep her safe and happy. Whitney’s struggles with her feelings for Cormac felt very real. I could easily picture the town of Marietta in my mind as I read the book. I also loved Kris Krinkle. He was the perfect addition to the story. All around this is a sweet story not to be missed.
*ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
The two MC's share a past and one adorable goddaughter. While neither MC's were particularly sympathetic (to me) at the beginning of their courtship (yes the shared past), the story assumes that, in the intervening 2 years, they both grow up and become a little more human and relatable. Of course this change is squarely pinned on the small but adorable shoulders of their shared goddaughter (DAISY).
Drop this smack dab at Christmas in Marietta, Montana! Events, people and places mentioned in other stories also have roles to play in this one. Add in a real-life Santa (or Santa surrogate) and it's a Hallmark romance! It is definitely entertaining and a great festive read. Christmas candy without the calories.
I love Christmas and the hope comes with it. And I love reading romance and if it is second chances, all the more better. Coming to this book, I loved the cover. And I loved this book so much that I read it twice. The characters are well developed and Daisy is lovable. The chemistry between Whitney and Cormac is palpable. The conversation between Daisy and Santa is adorable and I could actually picturize the scenes. The characters from the previous books in the series make an appearance off and on thus, maintaining the continuity in the series. Looking forward to read more books from the author.
Enjoyable read about one male workaholic whose world gets tilted when he becomes a single parent to a small, orphaned child and his exgirl friend who loves the child and is her godmother.
I like Jane Porter's writings which are generally well-written. There were a few typos... "works" instead of "words,” "titles” instead of "tiles," etc.
Christmas story about a tough business man, Cormac Sheenan, who has no interest in a family or kids. But he finds himself the guardian of an orphaned little girl named Daisy. Daisy has been talking to the local Santa Claus and is hoping for a miracle for Christmas. Adler Whitney is a prior girlfriend of Cormac's and is in town helping him to get his business offices remodeled and ready for the move to the small Montana town of Marietta. Adler is Leary of being around Cormac since he hurt her before. Maybe there is a chance for them again?
When Cormac Sheenan gets a text that his goddaughter's school is on lockdown due to an active shooter situation and he gets stuck in traffic trying to get to her, he decides that living in Southern California is not the best for Daisy. Being the head of his own company Cormac decides to move the headquarters and all executive offices back to his small hometown of Marietta, Montana.
Whitney Alder is an executive with Cormac's company in the Denver office but the two also have a stormy history. They had dated for a year before Cormac unexpectedly broke it off without a reason why. But also they had been involved in a heated custody battle for Daisy two years prior. Daisy is the daughter of Whitney's long time best friend and her husband but the two were killed in a car accident. Whitney and Cormac were both supposed to be the godparents but only Cormac had been named for custody in the will.
Whitney immediately turns down the offer to move to Marietta but Cormac tempts her with an offer to help for six weeks. She would earn an enormous severance package and the ability to be able to spend time with Daisy whom she hasn't seen in two years. With the holiday magic of small town Marietta at work plus a bit of match making from four year old Daisy and Santa Claus, Whitney and Cormac slowly rekindle their old flame.
Another lovely holiday romance taking place in the enchanted town of Marietta. I just can't help but love this small town and it's Christmas charm. Such a lovely festive atmosphere for falling in love you just can't go wrong with any romance taking place there.
It did take me a bit of time to warm up to Cormac, he was obviously completely devoted to Daisy but as far as romantic was concerned he was definitely a bit lacking. Whitney was a wonderful strong lead that complimented Cormac well though as she was the one person who could stand up to him.
The ending of this one seemed a tad rushed too which sometimes happens with novellas but still a great read I'd recommend picking up during the holiday season.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is A Christmas Miracle for Daisy. It is book #5 in the Taming of the Sheenans series written by Jane Porter. It is Cormac and Whitney's story; as well as Daisy. Cormac Sheenan is a media mogul. He had no desire to be a family man, but then his 2 year old God-daughter was orphaned. He adopted her and moved her to California. He becomes a good single father. He is devoted to Daisy and he juggles being a single parent with running his successful enterprises. A tragedy occurs at Daisy's school, and he decides it is time to leave Southern California. He moves back home where he feels safer. Small town Marietta, Montana is also where he is going to relocate his company's headquarters. Whitney Alder once loved Cormac. She is the creative director at Sheenan Media. Cormac left her heart-broken and she tries to keep her distance from him. She was raised in Montana but doesn't want to move there because of the painful memories. Whitney is persuaded and agrees to go to Marietta temporarily. She goes to help prepare the office and spend some quality time with her God-daughter, Daisy. Whitney starts feeling the attraction between herself and Cormac growing again. She loves Daisy, and enjoys spending time with her, but she starts to wonder if that is worth it in exchange for seeing Cormac every day. A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is a modern version of a classic holiday film, Miracle of 34th Street. I enjoyed the story immensely and it was a great read for the start of the Christmas season.
This is a nice little addition to the Christmas fare glutting the market at the moment.
Cormac is the last of the Sheenan brothers and is a hard nut to crack (see what I did there.) Known as The Ice Man, he dumped the heroine Whitney without ceremony after being with her for a year. He then added insult to injury by winning a court case to keep sole custody of their God Daughter, Daisy, after the death of her parents. This basically meant that Whitney was cut out of the two year old's life after being as close as family.
Forced back together when Cormac moves the company to Marietta in Montana after a nasty incident at four year old Daisy's school, they start to get to know each other again. Whitney is still hurting from all of the bad stuff Cormac did to her.
Cormac on the other hand has softened quite a bit, due to being a parent. He's still a bit of a Grinch, distrusting the Santa Claus who has been asked to set up in Marietta for the Christmas Season. Santa plays a role in bringing about Daisy's wish for Christmas.
Overall this was a sweet reunion story with a not too annoying cute kid in the middle. I would have liked to see a little more suffering for Cormac because he really was an absolute B*stard in the past. But I suppose Christmas is the time for goodwill. I also would have liked to know why Whitney ended up not being appointed as guardian to Daisy originally being the best friend of Daisy's mother as this came up several times but was never resolved.
A Christmas Miracle for Daisy by Jane Porter has a strong Christmas theme but it is a book that will make you feel good and believe at any time of year. I loved the characters in this story, from the struggling main characters Cormac and Whitney, to the secondary characters of Mr. Krinkle and Daisy, along with a host of other characters who are familiar from previous books in this series (Taming of the Sheenans). Together they weave a wonderful tale.
Cormac and Whitney have a past that ended badly, and neither have a desire to be involved with each other again. But there is a sweet little girl to consider, and a pull towards each other that is hard to resist. Christmas in Marietta might just be the miracle they all need to heal...if they can find it in their hearts to forgive and move on.
I liked how Cormac and Whitney were together...the magnetic pull towards each other was as palpable as the resistance they tried to put up. The issues they faced were believable and the feelings were real. I couldn't wait to see how things would work our for them, and if Daisy would get her Christmas Miracle. I liked the involvement of the secondary characters. They added depth and interest to the plot.
A unique second chance romance with a magical Christmas setting, A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is well written, flows smoothly and captured my heart. I'd recommend it to any romance reader!
After a gunman opens fire at Daisy’s school leaving two injured, Cormac decides to leave the craziness of LA and move back to Montana to safely raise his daughter. But relocating his company during the holiday season will be the bigger challenge.
As Creative Director for Sheenan Media, Whitney has played a crucial role in the company’s publishing division. When news of the relocation hits, she knows that this is the time for her to cut ties from the company … and the man who broke her heart years ago.
Back in Montana, Cormac and Daisy are getting back to a normal routine. But as she befriends the local Santa, and asks him for a special Christmas wish, Cormac gets nervous that he won’t be able to fulfill his daughter’s holiday wish. If only he could find out what it is …
I love a good Christmas story and this was just the one to get me in the holiday spirit. A take on the classic holiday film, Miracle of 34th Street, A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is a modern day version. With an amazing story and a cast of characters you won’t soon forget, this is the perfect book to start off the holiday season.
I have been patiently waiting for this story. I am a fan of the Sheenan men and their stories and of course I love all things Christmas.
This is Cormac's story. Cormac is a ruthless business man, who transplanted to California from Montana. He became an instant Dad, when he becomes guardian to a little girl, Daisy, when her parents are killed. Whitney is Daisy's godmother and former girlfriend of Cormac. A situation arises that causes Cormac to reconsider is life. He moves his company and himself back to Montana. Cormac is an true alpha male, he is fiercely protective, a man of action but few words. Whitney wants nothing to do with him, but she wants to have a relationship with Daisy.
I loved how this story had so many story layers and the way they all blended together very nicely. It is a story about second chances, forgiving, and believing in miracles and Santa.
I know this will be a story I will read again. It is a perfect curl up in front of the fireplace (if you have one) with a cup of hot cocoa and just lose yourself into the story kind of book. I found it heart-warming and a perfect Christmas read.
A modern day Miracle on 34th Street that takes place in my favorite town of Marietta Montana. Single dad, Cormac of adopted daughter, Daisy has moved back home to Marietta. Cormac is relocating his media business to Marietta. His employee, Whitney is here temporarily to help with the relocation. Whitney and Cormac have a past history, plus she is Daisy's godmother. Daisy asks santa, Kris Kringle, for one wish. Kris or Daisy will not share that wish anyone. Will Daisy get her miracle for Christmas.
I loved this story, I could not put it down. It was great to celebrate the Christmas season with the rest the Sheenans and the residents of Marietta. A must read this holiday season. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.
Every little girl's night in shining armor. Ever big girl's fantasy come true. If there is one book that can not be missed A Christmas Miracle for Daisy by Jane Porter is it. I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review. Daisy and Cormac were an inspiration. Very quickly they developed an attachment and it was so beautiful to watch this big, strong man become putty in this little girl's hands. I received this story on Monday morning and had finished it that night. Despite a couple of false starts, some hard to deliver promises and a crazy Santa, Cormac and Daisy found Christmas Miracle in Whitney. Jane Porter delivered a story that has all the makings of holiday movie, but can be enjoyed all year round.
I couldn't wait to read A Christmas Miracle for Daisy by Jane Porter. I've enjoyed each Sheehan story and been not so patiently waiting for Cormac's turn. Porter takes us back to Marietta, Montana at Christmas time with her latest. Cormac becomes a single father when he gains custody of his goddaughter, Daisy. With a shared history and heartbreak she hasn't forgotten, Whitney works for Cormac but keeps her distance. With Whitney wanting to spend as much time as possible with her goddaughter, that just isn't going to happen.
I love picking up a Jane Porter romance. I know that for duration of the read I'll have fallen completely into the story. A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is filled with all the things needed for a heartwarming holiday romance.
A Christmas Miracle for Daisy by Jane Porter. A wonderful addition to the Taming of the Sheenans series. I really enjoyed this heartwarming and touching story about Carmac and his daughter Daisy. The characters in the book just pulled me in from the first page. Great dialogue and storyline. I would recommend this series and any of the books by Jane Porter. Looking forward to reading more in this series and books by Jane Porter.
A Christmas Miracle for Daisy by Jane Porter is another great story. Very sweet, no sex, just kisses. And a whole lot of Christmas miracles. I loved reading this. Love all the little connections to A Bramble House Christmas. We are back in Marietta in Montana and it's just a great setting. It's so very well written that you need to turn the pages. And the title says everything. It's part of a series but acts as a stand-alone.
This story was amazing! I am a huge fan of all things Marietta, Montana. I have read almost every book so far with a few new releases to get to this week. I admit I love more than others but have always had a soft spot for the Sheenan boys. I loved Whitney from the start but Cormac had to grow on me a bit, as I was certain he would. This is one of my very favorites! A definite re-read. Thank you Jane Porter!!
This very heartwarming and sweet Christmas story is a perfect read for the holiday. Full review to follow on December 11th at http://tbqspersonalbookpalace.blogspo...
Update 2025: The Taming of the Sheenans series has recently had a cover change/update. The story within hasn’t changed, and neither has my opinion of this emotional romance. My original review of A Christmas Miracle for Daisy was in 2015; a decade later, I still enjoyed this story and actually love both covers. *shrugs with a smile*
A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is the fifth title in the Taming of the Sheenans series, featuring Whitney and Cormac.
Daisy has one wish for Christmas. One that she believes with all her heart that Kris Crinkles can help with. After all, he is Santa Claus.
Whitney and Cormac have a history. A huge history. She had loved him, truly expected to marry him… once upon a time. When her goddaughter’s parents were killed in a car accident that injured Whitney as well, the last thing she expected was not to have Daisy in her life again. April had been her best friend for almost forever, and Whitney knew that April had wanted her to be co-guardian of Daisy along with her godfather, Cormac. But somehow that information hadn’t made it into the will, which named Cormac as sole guardian – a single man with a multi-million dollar business to run. Whitney had tried to legally get partial custody of Daisy, but that attempt only widened the chasm between her and Cormac. Whitney still works for Cormac at his headquarters in Denver. Part of the deal to continue working there was that she never, ever had contact with him -it was the only way Whitney could keep the job she loved and was very good at and not tear the man’s eyes out should they ever meet.
Now, two years later, Whitney’s, Cormac’s, and Daisy’s worlds were about to be turned upside down — and the magic that is Marietta, Montana, might get a smidge of help from a red-suited guy with a twinkle in his eye.
After a lockdown at Daisy’s school with one student shot and a teacher stepping in to take down the gunman, Cormac Sheenan decided it was time to go home. Home to Marietta, where he had family, where his daughter could be safe from the dangers of the big city… and where memories good and bad had driven him away years ago.
Cormac’s decision to return to Marietta was not just a personal choice – he was moving his entire headquarters operation to this small Montana town. That included Whitney as well. And she could never return to Marietta to live, too many memories. In order to qualify for the severance package, Cormac offered to those upper management employees who could not make the move they had to work through the transition for sixty days. Since Whitney’s job would be to get the new building set up and ready for the rest of the teams to be ready to work the beginning of the year, that meant sixty days in Marietta with Cormac and Daisy — and trying hard not to lose her head or her heart once again.
A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is such a magical, heart-warming story. Returning to Marietta, Montana, is always a personal joy for me – add in Christmas and catching up with the hot-headed, loyal, and tight-knit Sheenan family once again, and I’ve got a slice of heaven on my e-reader.
Cormac’s personal history had him giving up on happiness with Whitney years ago. A decision that an older, a bit wiser man now regrets for the most part. Back then, he hadn’t been ready for the forever kind of relationship. He didn’t believe in it and didn’t trust it. Now, as a father who is seeing his adopted daughter glow under the influence of one special woman, he’s beginning to question if he got it wrong back then – and how he could fix it now.
Truth is, he could fix it – but being a typical Sheenan, he messed it up in his attempt to make it all right again. But he’d learn, when the happiness of three people was on the line, he could learn real fast.
Whitney had never stopped loving Cormac. Oh, she told herself that he was nothing to her, that he had taken away the one person in the world that she’d wanted with her forever. But some loves never die. They might need to be stirred up a bit, with some convincing, some positive actions, and maybe a touch of Christmas magic. But her love still lives, waiting for Cormac to get it through his thick skull that he’s in love, too.
If you’re looking for that special, warm feeling, want to be inside the story kind of Christmas Romance – then you need to pick up A Christmas Miracle for Daisy.. right now. A little girl who will steal your heart, a man and woman who belong together, and that special Marietta Magic Christmas Dust that Kris has in huge piles – this is what Christmas Romance is all about. *I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This book starts dramatically, where we witness what would be a harrowing event for any parent, guardian, or caregiver, and one that becomes the impetus for the hero to make a dramatic change in his company. Then, the perspective shifts to the heroine, and things become a bit confusing. The initial chapters jump around a lot between the past and present, and you don't know the characters well enough at this point to fully understand the context and keep everything straight. An audiobook is not like a physical book, where you can thumb back through the pages to sort things out. So I didn't quite understand the relationship dynamics between the hero and heroine or their important history, and I feel that didn't resolve for a bit too long.
The Daisy mentioned in the title is a four-year-old girl who was orphaned a few years ago. While the heroine was the mom's best friend, and the mom had told her she would be a guardian of the little girl, when the will was read after an accident that killed both parents, only the hero is mentioned as the guardian. Sadly, for reasons not adequately explained, the hero keeps this woman who had been so much of the young child's life away from her … even though this woman works for him!
The couple's interactions were just strange and didn't really make sense in the context of the greater story. I felt much of the middle and later part of the book retrod the same ground instead of truly showing us how these two people who seemed very distant emotionally—and actually antagonistic—at the beginning of the story suddenly fell head over heels over each other and forgave all past transgressions. Not realistic and not satisfying to a reader.
This book has one of my pet peeves often seen in books and even in movies. It bothers me, even though it's such a minor moment. I hate it when a character rips up a big check from somebody because they have personal issues with them or to prove a point. You earned it; take the money, girl! Rant over!
One thing I enjoyed about the book is how the magic of Santa Claus is woven throughout the story. Little Daisy is absolutely certain she's seen Santa Claus in civvies on an airplane! And there's an older gentleman in the small Montana town who revels in the Santa vibe he gives off. He loves to play Santa for kids and adults alike. His name is even Chris Krinkles!
I wasn't wild about the narrator. Except for the little girl, and maybe one or two minor characters, she didn't give enough vocal distinction between them. Also, she had odd phrasing that didn't sound natural. I don't expect every narrator to be a true voice actor, but you should still talk like normal people talk, with appropriate phrasing and pauses. I actually found this narrator annoying to listen to, and even though this book is relatively short, I broke up listening to it over several days just so I could get some relief from having to listen to her so much! From what I understand, she's the narrator for this entire series, which makes me less apt to want to listen to those, even though I'm curious to learn more about some love stories of the other Sheenans briefly touched on in this book. All in all, I found this story unsatisfying as both a reader and a listener.
I listened to this audiobook through my Audible subscription.
I really enjoyed this Christmas story. Cormac and Whitney’s story is complicated it’s filled with loss, resentment and love. The tragic death of Daisy’s parents means Cormac goes from being a bachelor to a Dad over night.
Cormac is intelligent, ruthless, hardworking and adores Daisy. He’s had her since she was 2 and now after her 4th birthday he’s realised that she’s changed him for the better. He has always been afraid of commitment with his longest relationship only lasting 1 year, but now he’s realised that he needs more to life than a fling.
Whitney is also intelligent, hard working and everyone that works with her and for her loves her. But Whitney is too scared to put herself out there as the love of her life broke her heart, and she’s scared to have it broken again.
Really enjoyed Whitney and Cormac’s story and how sometimes you’ve got to believe in a little Christmas magic.
