OH, BABIES!

Rust Creek Ramblings

We here at The Gazette just love a happy ending, and if anyone needs a little Christmas, it's Jamie Stockton. The stoic rancher has been raising his triplet babies alone since his wife died. Thanks to Rust Creek Falls's volunteer "baby chain," Jamie has had many helping hands. But his bed is still empty, and so is his heart.

Could family friend Fallon O'Reilly be the one to brighten his holiday? Babies Henry, Jared and Kate surely love having Fallon around, but their lonely dad may take a little more convincing. Hang the holly, dear readers, and deck the halls as our cautious cowboy rediscovers his Christmas spirit—and the "girl next door" gets a present she will never forget!

Brenda’s first love was reading.

According to her mother, she fell in love with books even before she could read and was always content when she had a book in her hands. It didn’t surprise anyone when she decided that she wanted to be a writer, but she was encouraged to pursue “a real job” first.

So she did—she became a lawyer. Two years of practicing law taught her a lot about the world—and reinforced her determination to become a writer. Because in fiction, she could promise a happy ending!

Thankfully, she had already met and married a wonderful man to inspire her fictional heroes. And when she was on maternity leave after the birth of their first son, he encouraged her to take a romance writing course at the local community college. It was while enrolled in this class that she completed her first (still unpublished) manuscript.

Three more manuscripts and another baby followed. And then, in June 2002, she finally got the call from Susan Litman—an editorial assistant and contest judge—offering to buy the manuscript she’d submitted to RWA’s Golden Heart® contest as “From This Moment.” This story was re-titled McIver’s Mission and released by Silhouette Intimate Moments in May 2003.

Not a story-line I care for. The long suffering best friend who has loved him half her life but he marries someone else, has a bad marriage and is left with newborn triplets when the wife dies in child birth. I needed a relaxing read and this just didn't do it for me.

I have read many Brenda Harlen books and enjoy most everything she writes, just not this one.

Friends to lovers is my favorite storyline and that's exactly what this book is but add in a widower of 10 month old triplets and the story just gets better. Jamie's wife Paula died after giving birth to the triplets she didn't want, and their marriage was headed toward divorce. Fallon was the one person who has always been there for Jamie and would listen to him when he confided in his marital problems. Fallon steps in to help Jamie with the triplets and falls in love with them as much as she loves Jamie. Finally Jamie sees her as more than just a best friend but he fights his feelings. Fallon is such a selfless person and you see how much she loves Jamie and his kids. This book was such a sweat, warm and cozy Christmas story that is just perfect for this time of year. You will love Jamie and Fallon and all of the other characters in the book. You will want to wrap up in a blanket and not put the book down!

Good friends to lovers story. Jamie is a widower and father of triplet babies. His wife died when they were born. The people of Rust Creek Falls came together to form a volunteer group that helps care for the babies. One of the members of that group is longtime family friend, Fallon. As Christmas approaches, Fallon wants to see Jamie enjoy the season with his children and attempts to push him out of the rut he is in.

Jamie's children are the center of his world. Though unknown to the general public, his marriage had not been everything he had hoped for. His wife had been unhappy living on the ranch. She hadn't wanted children and was angry when she got pregnant, even more so when it turned out to be triplets. She made Jamie's life miserable, and the only one he could confide in was his friend Fallon. He's not overly thrilled with Fallon's plans for the holidays, as he always feels that people look at him with pity when he's out with the kids, but eventually he gives in.

Fallon loves the triplets almost as much as she loves their father. She kept that love hidden while he was married. Now she can't help dreaming that he would wake up and see her as something more than a friend.

I enjoyed the progression of Jamie and Fallon's relationship. Jamie has always looked at Fallon as a friend he could depend on. He got quite a shock the day that he accidentally saw her changing her shirt and suddenly realized that his good friend was also a very attractive woman. But he's also very wary of doing anything about it. He's had so much loss in his life that the idea of doing something that could screw up his friendship with Fallon is something he doesn't want to think about. He tries very hard to forget about the feelings that she's stirred up, but he just can't do it. Fallon was surprised by what she had seen in Jamie's eyes that day, which gave her hope that maybe she had a chance with him after all. But after days of him treating her the same as always, she realized that she needed to do something to make Jamie see her as more than just his friend. It was fun to see his reaction to her makeover, especially when someone else started paying her attention. He still fought his attraction until he couldn't fight it any longer. I loved seeing them finally come together, and what they had was fantastic. But Jamie still has some deep-seated fears that cause him to pull back. I thought that Fallon was amazingly understanding, even through her hurt. I loved seeing Jamie finally realize the truth of his feelings. He had two big emotional scenes at the end; one when Fallon came back from her trip and the other at her parents' anniversary party. Fallon also provided a very interesting twist that made a huge impact on Jamie's life.

Part of the Montana Mavericks, in which Jamie Stockton needs all the help he can get caring for his triplets as he tries to manage his ranch. First among the baby chain of volunteers is Fallon O'Reilly, who's always loved Jamie, but he's remained oblivious. Or does he? After all, he does remember a kiss they'd shared 7 years earlier. But they were just kids then, right? And, it didn't mean anything, either. After all, they were just good friends.

But Fallon wants more and she's determined to wake Jamie up. But can she--even after she indulges in a personal makeover and a change of the kinds of clothes she usually wears? It's really too bad that Jamie remains stubbornly unaware. Or does he? Maybe he's just scared that what he's always experienced--the loss of those he's loved--will happen again, something he doesn't want to happen to Fallon.

How can she fix this?

A sweet Christmas theme book featuring a single, rancher father Jamie Stockton raising Triplets Kate, Henry and Jared. With help from Jamie's sister Bella, best friend Fallon O'Reilly and the women of Rust Creek Falls, baby chain, i.e a volunteer rotating babysitting is formed to help care for the children so that Jamie can keep and raise his children. This story is also about Fallon's and Jamie's feeling toward each other. For those who like clean romance and feel good stories this is highly recommended.

I have a spoiler filled review on my YT channel coming next Thursday, but I had fun with this and really liked it. A big surprise to me since I hated "The Mavericks Holiday Surprise" and 2 of the 3 Harlequin romances I've read so far.

The story was sweet but almost painfully slow. I felt like it was getting ridiculous how long it took for Jamie to admit that he was romantically interested in Fallon. I did not particularly care for the presentation of the triplets. I know they were really young, but I like it more when the children in books have distinct personalities. They are their own people after all.

Oh,Babies, Babies, Babies! Jamie Stockton is the widowed father of triplets and his best friend Fallon O'Reilly has been a part of the "baby chain" of Rust Creek Falls that has helped him out for ten months now. Fallon has been crazy about Jamie since they were teens, but he only sees her as a friend and has confided in her about his marriage troubles, how his wife had felt about carrying triplets, it was so easy for him to talk to her above anyone else, even his sister, Bella. Fallon made plans for Jamie to get in the Christmas spirit by cutting a tree with the babies in tow, then they decorated it together, she wanted them to go get pictures made with Santa, but he bailed on that. Fallon was upset and afraid he would always see her as only a friend, so what's a girl to do? She gets a head to toe makeover. Yeah, he noticed but didn't relay that to her, so she goes out with someone else, which does make Jamie jealous. Read and watch these two come together and fall in love and become a family of five, it's a fun, wonderful ride.

I loved getting into the Christmas spirit with this book. I could smell the fresh baked cookies and the scent of pine as they brought the tree inside. Ah...
Harlen keeps the drama at a minimum - Jamie and Fallon (love that name!) are real people with real-life issues that readers can definitely relate to. They have histories that keep them from just handing over their hearts at the beginning of the story. They have a lot to learn before they can earn their happy-ever-afters. But the ending delivers the warm fuzzies you expect from this author. And did I mention... triplets? Oh my goodness! When am I going to get to see one of Harlen's books made into a Hallmark channel movie? If you're looking for a great staycation escape during the hustle and bustle of the holidays, this is it.

The More Mavericks, The Merrier! by Brenda Harlen. Rancher, Jamie Stockton, has been raising his triplet babies alone since his wife died at childbirth. The town started a "baby chain" to help take care of the triplets while Jamie was busy on the ranch. Fallon O'Reilly has loved Jamie since she was a teenager. Jamie thought of her only as a friend. Jamie did not want to lose her friendship. He did not want to take the relationship to the next level. This is a very good read.
