Chronicle of the Eternal: Volume 1

Rate this book
In the year XX, the human population exhausted the world’s resources, leading to cataclysmic environment changes and the imminent extinction of all life on the planet. Frantic space exploration became the world's focus, but failed to find a new world for the human race. In desperation, humanity went digital. Minds were scanned, encoded, and transferred to the virtual world of Grandosa. Manual labor and power production were entirely automated. Reproduction among those once human is now a cold, sterile affair fraught with new complications. Regal is a young boy who was born 222 years after the inception of Grandosa. He is what is referred to as a Soulless; someone accused of lacking a soul due to diminished emotions and driven by logic. His parents abandoned him, choosing the Eternal Rest. He is left with no one to rely on other than himself as a series of unfortunate events force him to adjust his outlook on life. Regal's school years teach him that there is more to this world than meets the eye. What he doesn't yet realize is that his future is full of turmoil that will threaten his very existence. His only path through these trials is to rise above, to stand and defend a life that no one other than himself can see.

Interesting story line

The story was original, complex and detailed. World building with culture and relationships thrown in. The protagonist an innocent subjected to discrimination who explores his world and develops with luck and determination into something new. Clearly a tale meant for young adults. Writing is a bit stiff but rich in undertones. Thumbs up.

Great litrpg !

If you like litrpg, this book is a great place to start. I have read the authors other books and enjoyed them. However this novel is step above anything he has written before.

Good Read.

A LitRPG story. Interesting story about the future and the aspect of the soulless. A school slice of life with the book covering the whole 4 years of school (with some time jumps). The next book looks interesting.

It isn't a good book. The view point character is terrible. The supporting characters are tissue thin. But I loved the crafting to the point I immediately bought and read book 2, which I also liked.

Great book

This book starts off very slow but as you get to know the characters your hooked. The characters are well done and the story moves faster as you get onto it. Regal is the MC and finds his way regardless of the hostility and hardships he encores. I will definitely buy the next book. This is not end online.

A great twist on the norm

This book does a spectacular job of creating a real life video game without smashing you over the head with it every two pages. This book feels very natural to read and sets the bar for future real life videogame books. I highly recommend reading it.

Promising though unrefined

While the premise is a twist from the staple RPG novel genre, there seems to be some jumps and leaps that made the story rather bland and not as emotive. Maybe the next books will fix it

A complete story

I found this well written and engaging but perhaps not fully edited. It has an interesting premise that is a bit different than many litRPG books. I'm curious to see what's next.

I liked it :-)

A good addition to the genre. The pace was great, and all the dog goodness makes me do a happy dance.

This one just wasn't for me

I didn't enjoy the writing style or the story near as much as his other work also needs editing, his new editor isn't near as good as the old one

Be forewarned, this is a book that pass inside of a video game, with game mechanics like HP and MP, a recurring status screen which shows the main character abilities, item inventory and other common MMORPG elements.
I think the author is american, but the writing feels like a translation from chinese, seens to be influenced a little by xianxia novels.
The characters are captivating enough, keeping the book interesting, the main character depending a lot on his teammates since he is basically useless in a fight changes the tone a little.
The story goes on smoothly, no big baddies in this first volume, just levelling up to level 10 in the safety of the school grounds inside the city. It is well executed in its simplicity. Setting the scenario for the next book in the series.
Unfortunately the second volume is not out yet.
Too much rules and explanation of the rules though, probably will scare off the casual reader along with the non-gamer reader. This is the main reason why I didn't rate this one with 5
