Rion Ward fought hard to be free of the Irish mob life. Now, as the co-owner of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac club, he’s traded crime for the ultimate sexual fantasy. But when the “good girl” from his past walks through Lick’s doors, he discovers that his unconsummated hunger for her never abated.
Widowed for two years from a man who felt that anything besides the missionary position was dirty, Harper Shaw is ready to move on. The first step to feeling alive again is sex. Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex. And who better to provide it than the brooding, sexy, tatted bad boy-turned-man she’s known for years?
Rion, however, has one stipulation: He’ll be hers only for one night. One night to explore her every fantasy. One night to push her limits. One night to introduce her to a passion that makes both doubt if it will be enough…
Published since 2009, USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone loves writing sizzling romances with heart, a touch of humor and snark. Her books have been featured in The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, and described as balancing “crackling, electric love scenes with exquisitely rendered characters caught in emotional turmoil.”
She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
Only For A Night is book one in the Lick series by Naima Simone. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and by the author. This book is one of the very first in the brand new Scorched line Entangled is putting out and I couldn’t be more excited about this. Naima is a new to me author and I am in love. This book was just amazing.
Rion Ward is the son of a criminal in the Irish Mob. All his father wanted for his son was the same life and he began teaching him early. But then, when he was in high school being strongly encouraged by his father to quit school so he could go into “the business” full time, Rion met Harper Shaw. She was a little tiny freshman with a huge heart and a backbone of steel. She became his friend, mentor, and tutor, encouraging him to open his eyes to things he never knew existed. Rion was in awe of Harper, in awe that she would even give him the time of day. He never felt like he deserved to breathe the same air as Harper. He wasn’t good enough. Her own parents constantly discouraged their friendship. And when the day came that Harper came to him wanting something more than friendship, Rion had to let her go.
“Harper Shaw wasn’t the one that got away…He’d never had her. She’d offered herself to him, but she’d never truly been his, had always been beyond his reach.”
Harper was a good girl. Raised by proper parents to be a lady. She saw something in Rion no one else saw, the artist, the poet, the intellect. He could be anything he wanted to be. She probably had loved him from the start. But when she finally offered herself to him, he pushed her away. So Harper finally started dating a man that her parents approved of. Eventually when he proposed, Harper again went to Rion who gave her his blessing. Now, five years later, Harper has lost her husband. She is a widow. She spent her lifetime trying to be what her parents wanted her to be, then her husband. He made her feel dirty for wanting more out of their intimate life, to try new things. Now, two years after his death, she is ready. She wants to experience things, she wants to break free. So of course, she went to Rion,
Rion and his two best friends, Sasha and Killian, have finally broken out of the mob world. The three of them now own and operate the city’s hottest and most exclusive sex club, Lick. It’s been open a year now and is a huge success. The night Harper came in to the club, he wanted to hold her close and send her away all at the same time. But then she told him what she wanted. She wanted him to show her everything she’s been missing. She wanted him to teach her the things others did at the club. Rion can’t resist finally allowing himself to have the woman that has haunted his dreams all these years but his only rule is that it will be for just one night. That’s it, then they will again say good-bye.
“He’d protected her. And now, years later, he was the one escorting her into a world that she shouldn’t even know existed.”
This book, just WOW! I loved it. First of all, it was so freaking hot! I mean, read it while in the freezer, hot! But it was so much more than that. Harper had been stifled and made to feel dirty for wanting things outside the norm. She was so brave to go to Lick and ask Rion for what she wanted. It was such a beautiful thing seeing her go for what she wanted, finally. I ached for Rion. He felt so much for Harper but didn’t feel good enough for her.
I am so glad Entangled is coming out with this new erotic line of books. If not I wouldn’t have found this author. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.
This was short but very sexy. Rion is the bad boy that fell for the good girl as teens. He let her go and now she's back. She wants to feel free and his sex club and him are just what the doctor ordered. They share a great connection and even better intimacy. Her boundaries are tested. Only at the end they both need and want more even if only one admits it. Quite the enjoyable little read and I'm definitely wanting to know what's next for the Lick trio. Safety: No OW. Yes to sharing and one OW. They use condoms. Neither are Vs. No rape or abuse. There is pushing away.
I enjoyed this one, but it was set in a sex club and I feel like it didn't really explore that as much as it could have and I wanted a bit more. With that being said this was still mega sexy and I can't imagine you would be disappointed if you enjoy the smutty smuts!
TW: miscarriage, emotional abuse (in the past), gaslighting (in the past), slut shaming (in the past)
i don't rate smut but this was pretty solid! decent storyline, nice sex scenes (a lil menage action). i mean that's all u can really ask for in like 160 pages
3.5 - "Don't try to force my hand, baby. I'm not the boy you knew..." Stars!
Naima Simone joins several other well known Entangled authors to offer up a quick read, and the beginning of her new Lick series, as part of the launch of the publishers new Scorched line.
I like this authors writing style, I have pretty much enjoyed everything that I have read by her previously, but be warned, books from the Scorched line are not your run-of-the-mill romances as such so if you are looking for easy erotica, or sexy romance Only For A Night, and I suspect the following books from this series may be a little out of your comfort zone
"What I do isn’t gentle, clean or quick. You have no idea what I call sex, and you don’t want to know. You’re not ready to know."
Widow Harper, turns up at Lick, looking for her former best friend and crush Rion Ward, one third owner of the club, he left her behind to her perfect life a few years before, never expecting to see her again after she married her straight as a die husband, to live her cookie cutter life. But things changed for Harper and the woman he thought he had left behind with everything her heart desired, now has nothing, and isn't even sure if her heart is actually functioning anymore.
"You have no idea what I need. How can you when I’m trying to figure it out myself."
What follows is one night of sexual discovery for one, and the rediscovery of long dormant feelings for the other. This was the part of the story-line I really got stuck into, as Naima really gave them both a decent back-story to move the reconnection on from at a quick pace.
Lust looked gorgeous on her. She was meant to wear it.
Nothing hugely original about the plot or tropes used, but the sweet moments at the end made it a worthwhile read for me even if the middle left me a little miffed from lack of disclosure.

My 1st read by this author...and certainly not my last! Rion (yum) I love a reformed bad boy...;) and I'm a sucker for Second chance at love story's...
Rion part owner of Lick (a sex club) comes face to face with Harper a girl from his past...she's no girl anymore... She's a woman that knows what & who she wants...Rion is the one who is going to give that to her...a night of all her Fantasies!
Sultry, sexy, dirty, and so f*ing HOT it should come with a WARNING!!!
(Ya you know what I mean) wink, wink,
Beautifully written, emotional and off the charts HOT SEX! Fans self! Don't miss this one! I highly recommend and I can't wait for the next book! ;)
If you're familiar with Entangled's Brazen imprint then their newest line, Scorched cranks the heat up a notch, although I wouldn't label it erotic, more...sex-fuelled. Only For a Night brings us widowed good-girl Harper and Rion, an ex-mafia bad-boy. And they have a past.
This book is a smörgåsbord of sex. Page after page of sexual antics and dirty-talk (and the word pussy which was repeated 44 times). Both Rion and Harper were likeable enough though and Naima Simone injected some tender moments due to their history, but I have to be honest and say overall this didn't really float my boat. I like my sex-fuelled erotic reads to have more of story and this was around 80 pages weighted towards the sex and, with Rion owning a sex-club, it wasn't particularly surprising to find voyeurism, anal-play and ménages entering the mix.
"That—what we just did—it was…dirty."
Naima Simone isn't a new author to me and she's an author I'll read again, but it's unlikely I'll be looking to see what lies in store for the co-owners of Lick, Sasha and Killian. The market is overflowing with erotic reads, and a series opener needs to grab for me to continue and unfortunately this just didn't have anything particularly special about it. That said, if you're looking for a shorter dirtier read then Only For a Night might just work for you.

Only for a Night is the first book and a novella in Naima Simone's new Lick series. Naima is new to me as an author, but I really liked this book. I was first drawn to the book because of the cover. Yes, yes, I judged this book by the cover and knew I had to read it. After reading the blurb, I knew I had not made a mistake. "Sexy tatted bad boy, Irish mob, sex club, and black out from orgasm sex"...interested in reading this book yet?! See, I was sold right away.
Rion Ward is the son of a member of the Irish Mob. He grew up in that lifestyle, but one day in high school he met this girl, Harper Shaw. She changed his world completely. She made him see that there was more in the world than just the mob life and that he was worthy enough to have more. She encouraged the inner artist in him, but most of all she became his friend.
As these two grew up together, feelings began to develop. Harper wants to be with Rion, but still being involved with the mob, he doesn't want to bring her into that world. It would kill him if anything every happened to her because of that. He's planning on getting out of the mob, but it's going to take time. So what does he do? He pushes her away.
Harper begins dating someone else, a "good" guy, but she never forgets about Rion. When the new guy proposes she goes to tell Rion, but he just tells her to marry the guy. He never really thinks he'll see her again, but five years later he's taken back when he's told that she's turned up at his club asking for him.
Rion, Sasha and Killian are co-owners of one of Boston's most exclusive sex clubs, Lick. I love the name of this club. I think it gives the idea of the kinky types of things that go on behind closed doors.
"Lick delivered the ultimate - and kinkiest - fantasies. Bondage. Spanking. Domination and submission. Voyeurism. Role play."
Anyway, Rion almost can't believe it when he sees Harper standing in his club. He tries to get her to leave, but she's not having it. She was married to a guy who thought that sex in any position other than missionary was dirty and hedonistic. And Harper is dying to have her sexual needs met and she knows who she wants to meet them with.
"Sex. I need you for sex."
Rion finally agrees to Harper's request. He's finally going to get to be with the woman who's always held his heart, but it comes with a stipulation. It's only for a night. After that they are supposed to go back to their regular lives. But after all is said and done will one night be enough?
This book was so good for a novella. It was freaking HOT! Rion took Harper through different rooms in the sex club and it only stoked the fire that was smoldering between them. Sexy times galore! I'm so glad that I was approved by NetGalley to receive a copy of this book. Seeing a little, well not so little, bit of Sasha in this book has me looking forward to his book with lots of anticipation. I can't wait to see what Naima Simone gives us next with this series.
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a part Entangled Scorched line which is dedicated to erotic romance. And, it delivers. there was a lot I liked about this, and mainly I enjoyed that it was exactly what it portrayed itself to be going in...it was erotic. There was a sex club, voyeurism, and a threesome...all in one night. But, the way that the story is constructed keeps it from feeling rushed or forced. And, as it is a story that takes place between 2 people with a history, the instant connection between the 2 of them works and is believable.
The writing is excellent and you believe the actions of the characters. There is a not a strong developed plot, but this is not something you expect. The story is about a woman who visits a sex club with the intention of fulfilling her fantasies, and you get the story of her experiences.
This the 2nd book I have read within the Scorched line, and I am looking forward to the others.
Entangled Publishing has released a new imprint called Scorched. It promises to have all the heat level of their Brazen line, but with fewer boundaries (sexually speaking). If this first book, one of the four released on opening day ( so to speak) is any indication, they’ve definitely let down their hair and livened things up as promised!
Only for a Night by Naima Simone is the first in her Lick series, centered on an Aphrodisiac club (a.k.a Sex Club). Rion is a co-owner of the club, a former member of the Irish mob who fought to get free of his obligations there, but still has some ties to his former life. His club offers anything the heart and body desires, with some no limit playrooms for the really adventurous (though of note, they do draw the line at unsanitary and illegal acts, meaning you won’t find anything too discomforting). Still, plenty of kink to go around with your usual BDSM play. When his former high school friend Harper shows up, he’s shocked and determined to keep her away from this steamier side of his life. But Harper, widowed for two years, has finally gotten up the courage to go after what she wants, and that’s one night with Rion, no holds barred. Will Rion give her the fantasy night of her life? And when it’s over, will he be able to let her go?
This is a novella length novel but packs a whole lot of heat into a second chance romance. Harper never cared about Rion’s background as a poorer kid from the wrong side of the tracks, one who got involved with the mob at a young age through no choice of his own. She was always attracted to him, but once Rion’s hands got bloody with the mob’s work, he couldn’t stand the thought of touching her innocence with his guilt, and broke off their friendship and all ties. But he never stopped wanting her, and when Harper makes it clear she doesn’t want a relationship, just a chance to explore her sexuality with a man she trusts, he’s not able to resist. There’s some voyeurism, menage and light bondage in this story, definitely going further than any other story that I’ve read from this publisher to date. But there is also a really sweet romance, as Rion comes to terms with the fact that his feelings for Harper have never waned despite their distance. And she’s different than she was before, determined to make her own choices, no matter the cost. While she still has a good relationship with her parents, this time around she’s not going to let them dictate who her friends can be and she wants Rion in her life now, whether they’ll approve or not. I really loved the two of the together, the way that Rion was willing to indulge Harper’s fantasies without censure, and how he came to realize that he couldn’t let her go a second time. It was a very sexy, entertaining story, and I’m looking forward to more in this series! 4.5 stars.
Note: a copy of this story was provided by the author for review.
Scorching hot quick read! Five years since they last saw each other, the female lead seeks out the male lead in hopes of satisfying an urgent carnal desire. With some reluctance, he agrees, establishes the terms, and this story takes off at lightning speed. He corrupts her and satisfies her fantasies, confesses his feelings for her, the end.
I expected this to be a smutty book, but it really wasn't. There is a story amongst the steamy times and this is a great fantasy-oriented read. First time reading this author's work and I really liked the writing style, definitely looking forward to reading more of her work.
I really enjoyed this one. You can always trust Naima Simone to give you the right amount of sex and plot in only 120 pages. Definitely recommend this one.
This is not a NA book, the hero and heroine in the book are matured adults, but it read like a NA book.
By the Chapter 2, the angst meter is reaching my tolerance limit.
Why I do not like it?
1. Over the top reaction to simple requests. eg. Heroine ask hero for sex, and without answering hero stormed off to his office and wanted to punch a hole on his wall. This sound like temper tantrum and not grown adult reaction to requests for sex. What trigger this dramatic reaction from the hero? Because because "Damn her for reminding him what he had foolishly want and hope for....." Puleeeeeeez! Major eye roll.
2. Despite the hero's need to punch the wall, he rather quickly relent and gave the heroine all the kinky orgasms she requested. Really? He got over his drama so fast?
3. Plot is cliche, I remember reading several books with similar plots.
4. I don't think, even given my limited experience. No girl would show up unexpectedly to her ex's place of work, after not having contact with him for several years and point blank ask for dirty kinky sex. No! I don't see it happening...
5. The whole scenario felt rushed, the first time hero and heroine had sex, it was a menage, two guys and a girl......I don't know, it felt borderline abusive and risky to me, heroine have not have any contact with the hero for years and the first time they have sex is with the addition of another guy she hardly know. And the guy are rather rough with her during their sexual encounters, I frowned and cringe several times, it read like one of those borderline abusive rough porn you see sometimes on the internet. Not sexy, not hot, not steamy....cringe worthy to say the least.
6. Oh, and the heroine scream her head off every time they had sex. I think the heroine was faking it, I think, all that none-stop screaming......
Ok, Ok, I am going to stop. I am starting to sound like a crirical, complaining prudish old aunt.
Sorry this book isn't for me. I have read books from this author I liked, so will remain hopeful....
Love Rion and Harper. They were so sweet, sexy and hawt together. I really loved this novella. So sweet and hot and sexy wrapped up in one beautiful package. Rion and Harper tugged at my heart strings, and I really felt for them. The emotions and history that bound them together leapt off the pages and I was eager to see how they resolved coming together. Overall this was a very sexy and emotional read and I am dying, just dying to read Killian and Sascha's book!

*** Generously gifted an ARC by Netgalley, Entanglement Publushing, and Naima Simone in exchange for honest review.***
Rion Ward never thought he was worthy of anyone's love, especially not from good girl Harper Shaw, but that's exactly what happened. Harper saw beyond the bad boy exterior Rion carried so well and found the fiercely loyal, protective, and honorable man he hid so well. To bad Rion didn't seem to know that about himself, and that's why he sent Harper away, straight into the arms of another man. Now, several years later Harper show's up to ask a favor of him, one that would only cost him one night. But Harper and Rion quickly realize that one night is not nearly enough. If you're looking for a quick read with some steamy sex scenes, than this book is for you. Now, if you're looking for a lot of romance thrown in with the steamy sex scenes, this may not be the book for you. With that being said, I really did enjoy this book. I loved how Harper stepped out of her comfort zone and realized what she had been missing in her life. Also, applause for Harper for taking control of her life after living so many years for others. The passion between Rion and Harper definitely jumps from the pages at you, and you can feel the struggle these two have had by staying away form each other for so long. Harper and Rion's story is a great read, I just wish it was a little longer so that I could have gotten to know them better. Overall though, If you're looking for a quick sexy read I think you'll like Only for a Night, and I give it 3.5 stars.
This was angsty, steamy perfection in a novella. 🥵 Second chance romance between two childhood best friends. Hero lived a rough life growing up (ex-mob life) but now owns a sex club, heroine is widowed and ready to feeeeeel again. She was emotionally abused in her marriage and made to feel like her sexuality and desires were dirty and disgusting. Mutual pining from both hero and heroine for years. She shows up at his club and says she needs him, he offers up just a night. Voyeurism, a little ménage moment, and a sexy filled night. I believed their connection and chemistry and totally would have read an entire book past and present with this couple. 🔥
The reviews talked about a big cliffhanger. I honestly thought it was a good end that kept you wanting more. I don't know if I would've qualified that as a blood-curdling cliffhanger.
Either way, it was short and sexy. Harper was a cool heroine. Rion was a good alpha. I enjoyed the sex scenes. Even the threesome which really surprised me.
honestly pretty fleshed out for a smutty novella, but for some reason, it took me forever to get through and I had a hard time paying attention. it was good, regardless, and i would recommend it.
As part of my new series where I read a ton of smutty books, which we're calling Soph's Spicy Smutathon, this is book one.
This did not disappoint the smut was elite tier. I'm giving it a 10/10 for smut content. It was sexy, spicy, passionate, written well and not cringy! The plot was also good and impressed me considering it is a very short book. I'm giving the plot a 7/10 rating because I found the ending to be a bit disappointing to be honest. I wanted more, like it just felt a bit rushed so that was the only let down. The two main characters Rion and Harper were great and there was character development. Again I'm giving the characters a 7/10. Despite the main characters being great, there was not really much depth to any of the other characters, which to be fair it's only just over 100 pages so not surprising.
Overall this was a great start and have I mentioned the smut and sex scenes were amazing. I can't decide whether this is a 3.5 or 4 stars so I'm going to be optimistic and say 4 stars. It's definitely worth the read.
This was very much outside of my comfort zone, and yet I really enjoyed it! My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed, but considering how short this is, I can't really hold it against the author.
Whew wee! This one was🔥🔥🔥!!! I liked that Harper knew what she wanted and needed. She was brave to go and ask for it. But I really didn't like Rion. He played the victim... and hurt Harper. No worries, it was all good in the end. I love Niama Simone's heart and heat. Happy reading!
