The Big 50: Toronto Blue Jays is an amazing, full-color look at the 50 men and moments that made the Blue Jays the Blue Jays. Experienced sportswriter Shi Davidi recounts the living history of the Blue Jays, counting down from No. 50 to No. 1. The Big 50: Toronto Blue Jays brilliantly brings to life the Blue Jays remarkable story, from Dave Stieb and Roy Halladay to the roller-coaster that was Roberto Alomar to Joe Carter's 1993 World Series–winning home run to the acquisition of Josh Donaldson.
An enjoyable book full of (mostly) good memories for a Jays fan. A little like going to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Davidi does a solid job of hitting the highlights, and a few of the lowlights, of the last 40 seasons of the Jays. The book is divided into bite-sized entries, so it's very easy to read an entry or two when you can snatch a few moments from a busy day. Recommended for the Jays fan, or anyone who wants to know a little more about the franchise.
A great book for fans. It reminded me of so many great people and moments, while also adding a bunch of history and facts from early Jays history. Great insights and anecdotes. Highly recommend for any Blue Jays fan. 2024 reading challlenge-a book with a number in the title
Shi is a good sports writer and commentator. As a long time Jays fan, this list hit all the high points with few surprises. But was still full of interesting factoids that the average fan wouldn’t necessary know. The bigger question will be how to update this list on 20 years or so.
