Keir Watson is angry at lawyer Kenna Parker for getting her client off on a charge of conspiracy to kill. However, his feelings for her change to ones of protection when he finds her stumbling out of an alley after a serious attack. Of course - she has amnesia! He stays by her side while they try to figure out who she may have angered in the past to make them want to kill her. There's also some nonsense about who shot Keir's grandfather at a wedding, but that's clearly part of a bigger story arc that doesn't get resolved here.

When the prologue introduced a bevy of characters, I was instantly frustrated, especially after my experience with Navy SEAL Six Pack, which still haunts me through its sheer awfulness! However, this settled down into a fairly decent thriller. Because it's part of a series, there's too much time wasted on the story arc of who shot Seamus Watson, rather than focusing on more suspects as to who wanted Kenna dead. I would have liked a bit more mystery than what was on offer here! Also, although the amnesia angle is a popular and unavoidable trope in this genre, I was a little tired of it here. I've already read about three books this year with that as part of the plot! (Or it feels like that). Otherwise, this was unremarkable, but enjoyable.

We were initially introduced to the Watson family in APB: Baby which was brother, Niall's story. Once again in Kansas City Connection we are reminded of the violence at a family wedding where the grandfather of our hero, Keir Watson was shot. The reader needs to keep this incident in mind as there will be new clues relating to this incident introduced here. Both our hero, Keir and our heroine, Kenna Parker are very strong characters. Julie Miller does a great job of introducing these characters and delineating the progression of their relationship. The plot has some great twists and there's lots of action to hold the reader's attention.

This book was a definite page-turner, can't wait to finish story. Julie Miller has once again treated her readers to a super exciting story.

Good second entry in the Bachelors in Blue miniseries of the Precinct. Keir Watson is a good detective, one who prides himself on his meticulous work and preparation for the job and for his court appearances.

So he is crushed when he is shredded on the witness stand by "The Terminator", or defense attorney Kenna Parker. He and his partner are enjoying a condolence drink at a local bar when Keir is just too miserable to enjoy himself. He leaves and sees a man in a hoodie across the street; the man stands out from the local folks coming in and out of restaurants and bars. The guy walks away and Keir moves on. He hears a woman talking and thinks there may be a problem so he goes to investigate. He finds a woman beaten, bloodied and talking with no rhyme or reason.

He goes to help her up and finds - The Terminator - much different from her earlier triumph over him. She is disoriented and bloody. He calls for help, and while waiting for the ambulance, he realizes she has no idea who he is, nor does she know who she is herself.
This is the beginning to a good whodunit and an even better love story. Miller brings it home each time. There is more to come in the series and in the mystery that began Niall's story earlier.

Excellent second book in this series. It opens the same way as the previous book, APB: Baby, with the shooting at Gabe and Olivia's wedding. This time we see it through Keir's eyes. It then jumps a few months forward to Keir and his partner, Hud, commiserating over a beer, after losing one of their cases in court. Keir is ticked because the defense attorney shredded his case, implying that Keir's police work was sloppy. He doesn't have very good things to say about "The Terminator" as she is called. After leaving the bar, he's stunned to find her staggering out of an alley, beaten and cut, and all but incoherent. First and foremost a cop, he is determined to protect her and find her assailant.

When Kenna leaves that alley, she has no idea how she got there, or even who she is. All she knows is that she feels she can trust the blue-eyed cop. Somewhere in the gaping hole of her memory is the feeling that she knows who did it and that he'll be back to finish the job. With Keir, she feels safe and protected.

I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. Keir is a bit wary at first, expecting Kenna to be the same shark he has encountered in the courtroom. Instead, he found a woman who, though still stubborn and determined, is also kind, compassionate, and unexpectedly sexy. I loved seeing his professional protectiveness quickly turn more personal. I loved how Kenna trusted Keir so much. Her occasional moments of panic when he was out of her sight were understandable under the circumstances, but once those passed her trust remained. In each other's company 24/7 for several days gave them the opportunity to get to know each other rapidly and deeply. I loved how circumstances had them seeing each other differently than before her attack. It was especially fun to see Keir look at "The Terminator" and her treatment of him in court from a less emotional point of view. I also enjoyed seeing Kenna look at her own life and actions in a new light and start to think about changes to make. Making it through the attack at the end showed them both how much they had already begun to care, and cemented their determination to see where it would go. I hope to see them in the following books.

The suspense of the story was terrific from the beginning. From the moment Keir found Kenna coming out of that alley, the intensity kept building. There were several suspects that were immediately obvious, plus possibilities stemming from cases she had participated in. Her creepy coworker went on my suspect list right away, as I felt he had the means and motive, but then there were others that seemed just as likely. It wasn't until the end that the truth was revealed, in a confrontation that had me on the edge of my seat until I got through it.

Besides the prologue, there was also some attention paid to the search for the wedding shooter. In their hunt for clues about the attack on Kenna, she found something that appears to have a connection to that shooter. In the epilogue, we get more from the point of view of the man behind that attack. I'm really looking forward to getting more of this story.

Love how it starts out, Kier and his partner are having a beer as they lost a case to that day to one and. Kenna Parker!

Before the night ends, she ends up in his arms!

Really enjoyed how they were able to get to know one another without the "old" Kenna getting in the way.

She also had the chance to evaluate her life, career and love life to figure out if she's really happy. And also how her old case helps Kier with one of his cases that hits especially close to Home -- looking forward to lots more (Precinct) books from Ms Julie Miller!!

The book opens with a bang (literally) at Keir's sister's wedding and ends with the one culprit I dismissed early on! I liked that Kenna didn't become a hapless, whiny female with her amnesia; instead she maintained her stubbornness and determination while trying to solve who has it out for her. Keir trying to grasp his sudden attitude change towards Kenna leads to a few blunt and amusing conversations, but it also spurred great romantic friction between these two..I'd say it's a win-win for readers!

I've always had a soft spot for Harlequins and Julie Miller is one of my favorite auto buy authors from the Intrigue line! Her Precinct series is a wonderful blend of romance, suspense, action, well-rounded characters, and strong plot lines that never fail to entertain!

Kansas City Countdown is the second book of The Precinct: Bachelors in Blue series. Overall, its book 29 within the Precinct series, but hopefully that's not too intimidating for new readers to jump in at this point and meet Miller's fictional-but fantastic-boys in blue!

I would recommend this series to light romantic suspense readers looking for a satisfying and fast paced read.

Hello, Everyone.
I'm Hannah almost three years ago on April 6th, I had found my love of reading.
(I was a late bloomer in school & still am in some areas) now I'm 23/Half and "Yes" I just found my love and passion for reading, ( Especially Romance novels or books)
But one of the first books I picked up and read was " Julie Millers" (The Rookie) And I LOVED IT!
It was so great, I very much enjoyed and do enjoy her writing and reading her books.
After I had finished "The Rookie" I went from there reading whatever book from Julie I could get my hands on or whatever my Library had.
I've found her books to be very interesting and enjoyable and I never want to put it down or stop reading, I seem to read closer to bed and then I have a hard time putting the book down to sleep.
Now, I'm picked again to be one of few who gets an early copy of " Necessary action" to read and write a review about it. I truly can't wait to read it and see what happens next in the series.
I just truly have to say a HUGE "Thank you!" to Julie Miller. Thank you so much!

Sometimes because of your job or profession, people think you're a certain way. I can relate to Kenna and being a lawyer. We're not always liked, even if we're good LOL. So it's not a surprise Keir doesn't like the "Terminator" very much after destroying his case at court. But despite that when she needs him the most, he does his job... and even more. He begins to see the woman behind the mask that is not as cold and ruthless as he thought.

The attraction is strong, not only physical but mental ... doesn't it feel good when you find a person that has the looks but even better has a brain? That's even hotter. Keir is the perfect match for Kenna. Their names match!

We have a little something about the incident in Olivia's wedding. It seems someone related to the Watson boys' mother has a vendetta against the family. There is a discovery thanks to Kenna. And it seems the big brother has to go undercover. So waiting for next book. Nial's wedding is next!

Keir Watson was destined to be in law enforcement. His father, grandfather, oldest brother and sister are all cops and his other brother performs autopsies for the KCPD. When the book opens, he’s drowning his sorrows after having his case torn apart by a criminal attorney known as The Terminator. Kenna Parker is as cold as she is disliked and he’s annoyed at having lost the case.

When he decides to leave the bar where he’s been having a drink with his partner, he discovers a woman coming out of an alley nearby. She’s been viciously attacked and is covered in blood, and when he sees her in the light he realises it’s Kenna. She has amnesia, from being beaten around the head, and her face is covered in slash marks from a knife. He might be annoyed with her over their courtroom battle, but he’s not going to stand by and not help her.

He gets her to hospital and she’s terrified. She can’t remember who she is, where she’s been, or what’s happened to her. The only person she trusts is Keir. While at the hospital, bits and pieces about her life start to come back to her. The arrival of a partner at the law firm where she works leaves Kenna feeling uneasy, because he’s totally sleazy. Keir senses it and vows to stay with her until they can find out who attacked her and why.

Taking Kenna back to her home does little to allay her fears. The house she inherited off her parents is sterile and cold, and shows no signs of warmth. Kenna realises that the woman she was before the attack is not the woman she is now; the old Kenna was ruthless and liked to be in control of everything, and the new Kenna doesn’t like the old persona. She then finds evidence that she was being stalked before the attack and the stalker was sending her letters that formed a countdown.

Keir finds evidence that Kenna was attacked at her property and knows Kenna is being followed by a man in a hood, so he refuses to let her out of his sight. Drawn together by a man determined to kill Kenna, they have to race against the clock to find out who he is and why he wants Kenna dead before he succeeds in his plan. Kenna finds herself leaning on Keir and Keir realises he really liked the new Kenna, and inevitably they turn to each other.

The identity of the stalker is eventually revealed before he can hurt Kenna again and Kenna realises that maybe it’s time to use her skills to help different clientele. She and Keir decide their relationship is one worth pursuing. Another excellent read from Julie 🙂

This was an excellent book, with gripping suspense, and intense action.

Kenna a defense attorney, and Keir a Kansas City detective face off in the court room. Kenna shredded Keir’s case, and he was mad to say the least. Keir went out for a drink with his partner to blow off some steam. He ended up leaving the bar early because he knew he wasn’t good company. After leaving the bar he sees Kenna stumbling out of an alley beating up. She can’t remember how she got there, or what happened. Keir will always be a good cop, protecting those that need his protection, and hunting down the bad guys. He took Kenna to the hospital, and stayed by her side throughout the investigation. The book had more than one suspects, so I was a little surprised by who her stalker ended up being. The name of the book is Kansas City countdown for a reason. Kenna started getting letters with no return address, and the first one said “Your DEADline is 147 days. Other letter followed counting down. Kenna was a very independent lady and thought she could handle her stocker by herself. She never contacted the police or told her friends that she was afraid, or what was going on. The suspense of the story was excellent. I really enjoyed how the relationship between Kenna, and Keir progressed. In a short amount of time the two fell in love. I think going through something that intense brings two people together.

First - cover guy. Nice. And in a suit too. Proof that they don't have to be half naked to look good.

:ahem

I've read too many of the general type of book of late to really enjoy it. Not the book's fault really. Some things I did question - if they knew her keys had been stolen, why stay at her house? If they caught the gardener painting over bricks (which wasn't actually his job), one of which later proved to have blood on it, why didn't they become suspicious immediately? Why do these guys never enlist a bit more assistance with the guard duty?

This, btw, is as much a general commentary on romantic suspenses as a comment on this particular book. Seems like most of the heroes couldn't actually find their ass with both hands.

So the h got attacked and dumped in an alley. The h just happened to be a criminal defense attorney. The H found her. The H had just gotten his ego bruised in a courtroom earlier that day by her. Irony.

It seemed obvious to me who the attacker was when they got to her house. I just never quite grasped why they stayed there, why he wasn't investigated because his actions seemed strange. Why... well, you get the idea.

Kansas City Countdown is the second in Julie Miller's The Precinct: Bachelors in Blue series, about the Watson family.

Keir Watson is the "baby" of the family, and has always been fiercely determined, making KCPD detective as soon as he was able. He's business first, and maybe business only, since being burned in a relationship before. He figures he can do good by focusing on his work, and as such, has gone up against defense attorney Kenna Parker on more than one occasion.

But when he stumbles across Kenna after she's been viciously attacked, his protective instincts don't let him walk away, and as they work together to track down her mystery attacker, he realizes he doesn't want to let her go.

Ms Miller's book is exciting and engrossing. There is some movement in the overarching story arc for the series, but the primary focus is on Keir and Kenna, and their race to find answers and protect Kenna.

Looking forward to the next in the series!

I enjoyed this book so much that I decided to read the others in the series. Of course, it is exactly like me to start with Book 2. I especially enjoy books centered around families or close friends that become a series. Kier Watson is my kind of hero — a man with honor who rushes into danger without fear of retribution.
One of the problems I found — likely because it was book 2 in a series— was the fact that the author introduced 13 characters in the first five pages and some 29 characters by the end of chapter 4. I found it hard to keep up with names and information of the character at first.
And, yes, I am speaking infinitives again. to never go, to carefully pull, to not even be, to hopefully come, to mentally shake, to really be, to really get, ETC. Mayhap colleges no longer address split infinitives in their English departments.

I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 5* rating. This is not really for the under 18 readers. This story pulled me in from the beginning. Lots to keep you turning the pages. Unusual circumstances bring the lawyer and the detective together and the sparks keep flying. Sometimes the bad guys hide in plain sight. And sometimes fate decides who we meet up close.

This romantic suspense had an exciting beginning and end but midway things slowed down when the main characters started doing lots of mental speculation about their relationship, feelings and professional conflict of interest. Detective Keir finds prosecutor Kenna in an alley having been severely beaten and no recollection of her attack or who she is.

This is only the second Harlequin book I've read (both from the Intrigue line), and I thought the character development in this one was pretty good. In both books, I found the actual mystery to be solid, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting past the idea of a male protector who is willing to abandon the ethical responsibilities of his job (body guard in the last book, police detective in this one) to give in to the attraction/passion/sexual tension he feels toward the female he is supposed to be protecting. In both books, the female characters were strong and successful, but circumstances had put them in a position where they needed help. I like the mystery and even the romance, but I find the progression of the relationship to be completely preposterous. The books are fun and easy to read, and there's a part of me that wants to keep trying to see if I can find a book that doesn't follow this same formula, but I also suspect I might be too practical to ever fully enjoy one of these books.

I read this one first even though it is the 2nd book in the series. It has lead to me reading the other books in this series even though contemporary romance is not usually my jam. I have found that I have loved reading these books and enjoy reading about my hometown of Kansas City. So far in this series, I find that Keir is my favorite Watson brother. I love how he starts to see Kenna in a different light and how Kenna is realizing that she may need to change as she has locked herself away from others...she needs to open her heart and her life up to others. I am looking forward to finishing this series and founding out who is targeting the Watson family.

This is the second installment in The Precinct: Bachelors in Blue series. I love how it seems that each story starts off with Olivia’s wedding and the shooting of their grandfather. In this story you have the youngest brother Keir Watson and the “Terminator” Kenna Parker, Attorney at Law. This was an enthralling read and I enjoyed every page. The characters had great chemistry and they were opposites of each other but in certain cases that attracts them to each other. When her home was described I was like she must be a major workaholic if things seem that clean. But the other thing was that since she had amnesia it seemed that she didn’t really care of the person she was and that said a lot. Now as for Keir he was a great man and he had that protective instinct that made him more attractive in my book. He is was going to have his hands full with Kenna because she was not one to sit and rest she wanted to get to the bottom of what happened to her. The clock is ticking and it’s only a matter of time before he strikes and tries kill her.

I totally recommend this read but I do recommend readers to read the first book in this series!!!

This is the youngest Watson brother. I found the way Julie Miller threaded the overarching mystery about who shoot the grandfather really interesting into each story. She gave us the prologue where this event happens from each brother's point of view when it was his turn to have a story. Each boy's story adds a bit more to the solution. Can't wait to read the final book in the series where all the threads come together. (I hope.)
