The Elementalist When Karina is exiled into the barren wasteland that all magical mutants have to live in, she is met at the border and escorted to a school for magical beings inside it. Once they arrive, her escort, Sergeant Caleda starts to train her in focusing on and finding her powers. Caleda is a very handsome man with an attitude, but he knows that there is something special about Karina. She has more powers than has ever been previously recorded and an unknown range to them. The pair of them constantly butt heads, arguing with each other over everything but there is a simmering attraction between them they can't deny. He pushes her hard in her training because he knows that she needs to know how to defend herself against those who would seek to use her as a weapon. People like the King of the Mutant lands. But then the command comes from the Palace, she is to be taken there to complete her training! But living in a palace isn't all it's cracked up to be, and Karina soon finds herself exploring to find out more about the King. And what exactly did happen to the Queen all those years ago when she so mysteriously disappeared? What's behind The Queen's locked bedroom doors that The King wants to hide? And what will Karina be confronted with when she unlocks them? This book was a joy to beta-read and Vanessa has been offered a publishing deal for it so it's one that you don't want to miss out on! I recommend this book to all that love to read a good story. Personally, I can't wait for her to write book two, and you'll see why at the end of the story! You can visit V.V. Mont to find out more about this book at her Goodreads page https://www.goodreads.com/author/show.... You'll be able to find out how to follow her on facebook, twitter, and all the other sites she has, as well as asking her questions.
I beta read an early version of Elementalist, and loved it. The story works. Karina's voice is unique and really consistent, and Caleda is a swoon-worthy book boyfriend. I can't wait to get my hands on the final version!
I greatly enjoyed this future-esque YA Fantasy that brought to mind both X-MEN and THE MAGICIANS :) I particularly loved the exciting depiction of Author Mont's elemental magical system as well as MC Karina Deliz's feisty, humorous, passionate voice (this book is often laugh-out-loud funny). Karina meets her match in fellow elemental mage Caleda, and the chemistry between these two fair explodes off the page. All in all, this is a fun, hotly romantic read full of breathtaking magery (and there's a magical school - I always adore a magical school). Most highly recommended. #TeamCaleda ;)
I had an opportunity to read an early copy of this book and I absolutely loved it. I cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out. The writer created a fresh, exciting new world with characters you don't want to say goodbye to when your done. One of my all time favorites in YA!
Fast-paced, unique and sweet, this page-turner has it all - interesting characters, a great villain and an excellent plot twist. I can't wait for the second book.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to beta read The Elementalist.
I want to start by saying that I am quite impressed with your story. It is compelling and filled with intrigue. Once your grabbed my attention, you held it throughout the entire manuscript with only a few exceptions.
You have built up the tension between the characters and I felt connected to Karina as she struggled to make sense of the new world, Vincam, she was thrown into after it is revealed that she is not human, but a changeling.
The juxtaposition created between the desolate wasteland of the Unified Regions and the lush paradise of Vincam comes through clearly in your description.
The fact that these two countries are so different physically makes the fact that they are the same in how the government of the Unified Regions and the King of Vincam treat the people as disposable commodities really stand out.
I look forward we reading this again when it has been published and I will recommend it to anyone who love fantasy, dystopia, or elemental stories.
