The most Unbelievable thing about Gwenpool is how much I like this title!
It's bouncy, fun, irreverent, & the art (while different from The Unbelievable Gwenpool, #1) still makes me smile. So. Yeah, this was good stuff.
I'm not sure if any of you were following Howard the Duck, but this evidently wraps his title's run. Or at least that's what I understand to be true. I've honestly not even been sortakinda tempted to pick that one up. <--anyone know if it was any good?
Even though this one is labeled #0, there's still no answer to the How Did Gwen Poole End Up In Marvel 616?, so don't get too excited. I'm assuming that that's going to be explained a little further on down the line. However, you do get a peek at what she was doing directly before the events in #1, including her first time in the costume shop. The majority of this is Gwen teaming up with a very reluctant Howard to save the world from Black Cat and/or Hydra, because of...well, Gwen and her need for greed. But it's her self-aware I'm-In-A-Comic-And-I-Couldn't-Care-Less attitude that makes this work, so you can't help loving her...even as she's opening fire on everyone in her way. She's doing what every comic geek would love to do, and it's fun to see her embracing the carnage. Keep livin' the dream!
There's also a Holiday special that's short n' sweet. If you haven't tried this one out yet, give it a shot. Secret Wars can't be all bad if they gave us this kid!
This issue is crazy poor Howard the duck, he was endangered so many times because of her crazy ass. Gwenpool steals a virus from black cat and sells it to hydra then she steals it again from hydra and give it to black cat only to buy it again from black cat, whew did i miss something yeah she ate it thinking its another virus. Anyway she is insane and has zero talents and somehow she works.
For the longest time I was uninterested in reading Gwenpool. I was under the mistaken impression that she was just a diversity grab knock-off of Deadpool. Although the name may be slightly that, her character is actually unique and interesting.
She does share the fourth wall breaking meta quality of Deadpool but it's approached in a different way. Gwen Poole is a young woman who comes from our own universe. She has spent her whole life reading Marvel Comics, watching the Marvel movies, and just generally being a huge nerd.
A Fun, Weird Start for a Very Different Marvel Hero Unbelievable Gwenpool #0 is a strange but entertaining introduction to Gwen Poole—a regular girl from the real world who somehow ends up inside the Marvel Universe. Unlike other heroes, Gwen has no powers, no training, and no secret identity. But she knows she’s in a comic book, and she uses that to her advantage.
This issue is more of a collection of her earlier appearances than a full story, so it feels a bit all over the place. Still, it gives you a good idea of who Gwen is: funny, unpredictable, and totally unprepared for the superhero world—but somehow making it work.
She’s not just a female Deadpool. She’s a comic fan turned character who doesn’t take anything seriously—until she realizes she might actually get hurt. The art is bright and energetic, and the tone is goofy with some dark humor underneath.
Artwork is amazing and I hope it doesn't change. Love the fact that Gwen's dialogue bubble is pink. The teaming with Howard The Duck wasn't bad just a bit weird. I never read his series, my knowledge of him is from the 80's film and his brief cameo in one of the Avengers (I think) movie.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series. It's pretty short so I hope it doesn't fall flat. Regardless, this was a good start.
This might be the first comic that I read and actually enjoyed, and enjoyed everything about it. I love the characters, the artstyle, the humour and the plot. I was audibly reacting to the story with laughter and shock. It is so absurd and fun.
I am definitely going to read the rest of the published issues.
I love Deadpool from the comics, movies, videogames, mercy etc. so when I heard Gweenpool I was at first skeptical ,but after reading... I have to say I loved it and I want more of her!!
I didn't LOL, but it was interesting. I'm a titch confused by the clear Deadpool connection given the name and Gwen's behavior, since as of #0 she has no real connection to Deadpool? But, it was aight, like, I'd read another one.
This was fun but I was under the impression this would explain how Gwen ended up where she’s at and it didn’t. It did show a fun beginning to her super hero career.
Es un personaje que nunca había escuchado ni nombrar. Pero me dio gracia y esta bueno, aparte está en todos lados literalmente JAJAJA. Espero que los que me siguen mejoren.
I’m not familiar with Howard the Duck, so I really appreciated that this pit together Gwen’s appearances in his series. She’s a really fun character that got perfectly showcased in this issue.
I'm finding Gwenpool far more entertaining than Deadpool so far. I'm especially enjoying Gurihuru's art, which I think I've only seen before in a few short Zootopia comics. Overall, I preferred the Marvel Holiday Special featuring Gwenpool, but I can't find that listed separately on Goodreads. Would consider continuing to read Gwenpool.
Well I already read most of this before so I don't have too much to say but it is nice to have the shorts and holiday special all in one issue. Also I never did finish the Howard the Duck storyline so I'm glad I finally had the chance to read the conclusion.
