Such a beautiful story of teaching children and adults that it doesn't matter how much you have, it's a matter of whose you are!! It teaches the lesson that God loves you no matter who you are. We belong to Him, no one loves you more than God!! A short story long on love!!
I highly recommend this one to children of all ages. Max Lucado is one of my favorite authors!! It's beautifully illustrated and a sweet, tender story of love 💕
Second book in the series is basically the same as the first, instead of stars it is now about boxes and balls, it is against the whole mantra of whoever has the most toys wins. Fairly heavy handed and again missing the central thesis of Christian theology rather it is more feel good and feel special, following God but the definition for who God is beyond your maker becomes very fuzzy and not that helpful. It has some value but that value is somewhat limited.
Modern Fantasy 3rd Lucado's second installment in the world of Wemmicksville is one that teaches yet another incredibly valuable lesson. It teaches children the downfalls of materialism and helps the audience gain a deeper understanding of where true value comes from. I can think of no better message to share with children, which is that they are intrinsically valuable.
Finally, the citizens of Wemmicksville are saying that Punchinello is a good Wemmick! He's always wanted to hear that. But in his effort to please the crowd, Punchinello forgets what his maker Eli has taught him. So when others start collecting boxes and balls, Punchinello decides he wants to have some too. They make him feel so good–until he remembers how his arms ache from holding them all. Until he remembers how tired he is from working just to buy more. Until he stumbles into Eli's workshop and is reminded of how very much he's given up to have those boxes and balls.
Once again at the knee of his creator, Punchinello hears the words he needs the most: "You are special, not because of the things you have, but because you are mine." This best-selling sequel to You Are Special is now available in board book format, encouraging hearts of every age to learn of the love of their Heavenly Father.
Fantasy fiction 3rd-6th grade Wow! This is such a sweet story. I love the message and deeper meaning behind this story. This story reminds me a lot of how our world is and how we can be. I love that this story addresses where we find our true happiness and in who we should trust. Such a great story!
Good little kids book! I enjoyed Max Lucado's You Are Mine as much as I enjoyed the first in the Wemmicksville series, You Are Special. In this book, we learn about the unhappiness possessions can bring, how distracting they really are. Owning too much ends up finding yourself less valuable than you really are. This is something I'm currently learning in life. I'm a little bit of a hoarder and I put unnecessary value in what I own, unfortunately. God has been slowly guiding me through this process, and You Are Mine speaks directly into that process.
“You Are Mine” is the sequel to You Are Special, and a wonderful addition to my grandson’s library!
The Wemmicks are a society of wooden people, carved by Eli the Wemmick-maker. These Wemmicks sometimes do silly things, such as when they all begin to envy a Wemmick named Tuck because he has a new box. They compare their own boxes and how many balls they would hold and realize they don’t stack up. Everyone wants the best and the most, and the entire town erupts in craziness. Punchinello, who didn’t have a lot of boxes and didn’t want to be called a poor Wemmick, went a bit overboard because he wanted to feel important.
This entertaining, witty, and pun-filled story is delightfully fun and carries a very special message. We are special because of who we are, not what we have. I love this story. A classic bedtime story for my grandkids.

You Are Mine is the second instalment in Max Lucado’s meaningful Wemmicksville series, and it beautifully continues the journey of Punchinello—the wooden Wemmick who learns important life lessons about identity, self-worth, and what truly matters.
In this story, Punchinello finds himself swept up in a new Wemmick craze: collecting boxes and balls. The more you have, the more important you are—at least, that’s what everyone begins to believe. Wanting to fit in and be admired, Punchinello starts chasing after these things too, even though they weigh him down and leave him feeling more burdened than fulfilled.
As the story unfolds, Punchinello returns to Eli, the woodcarver, who lovingly reminds him that his value doesn't come from what he owns or how others see him. Instead, it comes from being made and loved by Eli himself.
Lucado’s message is powerful and timely, especially in a world where materialism and comparison often shape our sense of self-worth. The story teaches children (and adults) that we don't need to prove our value by collecting things or pleasing others—we are already enough.
Sergio Martínez’s illustrations are once again stunning—warm, detailed, and expressive. They beautifully capture the emotional journey of the characters and add depth to Lucado’s storytelling. The book’s tone is gentle, reflective, and comforting, making it a great tool for sparking conversations with children about self-esteem, peer pressure, and contentment.
Ideal for children aged 6–11, You Are Mine is a valuable read for families, classrooms, churches, and counselling settings. It speaks to the heart of anyone who's ever felt the need to measure up or prove themselves. Just like its predecessor, this book leaves readers with a quiet sense of peace—and a powerful reminder of where our true value lies.
* Tu esi ypatingas - ne dėl to, ką turi. Tu esi ypatingas dėl to, kas esi. Tu esi mano. Aš tave myliu.
This children’s story by Max Lucado is the sequel to You Are Special. It speaks to the adults reading it, as much if not more, than to the children listening. It is a parable that teaches how following the crowd by getting more and more stuff is an expense that costs us greatly. In the process we forget whose we are.
One can still enjoy a story very much without thinking too much about the intentions of the writer. This one gives comfort and love to every human being. What if we love collecting are books? But this won’t be the same, will it? Books are read in private and nobody wears a book like a piece of clothing or drives like a shiny car.
Every Wemmick has started collecting balls and boxes, so Punchinello decides to start his own collection, no matter how aching his arms become! Lucado continues this enjoyable series with yet another beautifully illustrated story for young readers. Sure to please families with its heartfelt lesson and entertaining cast!
At first, he was prideful about his box thinking that he was better than other people. This created competition between the town to see who had the best boxes, and having a lot of boxes made you the best. They started to care more about their boxes than their friends. This could be a great lesson showing how character development happens throughout a plot.
This book is so precious, and is such a good reminder that we should not compare ourselves with each other. I believe that this would be a perfect book to read to kindergarteners on the first day of school because they would realize at a young age that we should never make someone else feel less than.
An important sequel to "You Are Special" this book continues the story of Punchinello and the land of the Wemmicks. The warm illustrations work together with the text to remind him that he is loved just as he is - not because of how he looks or what he has, but because of whose he is.
Not my favorite, although I love Lucado. The underlying themes seem to be greed and hoarding. I did love the very last page though. I don't need the biggest and best, or even a lot of worldly accumulation as long as I am known and loved of my Father.
This is one of my favorite books. It is a unique story about a maker and his creation and shows how even though everyone is different, everyone is valuable in their maker's eyes.
Such a valuable lesson amidst our time back in Canada.
He wanted to have as much as everybody. But he wasn't happy and always wanted more. He sold his bed and home. Where would he sleep? I like that he gave them all away- Khi 3
Max Lucado has an incredible ability to weave words into our heart. The story unfolds and we step the world he creates and carry the message we long to understand and apply. I couldn’t love a story more than this book!
