Brand new stand-alone novel by Bestselling author Ellie Danes ON SALE - THIS WEEK ONLY
Ayden King has no one to blame but himself. He took the fall for his best friend and after fifteen years in prison, he’s finally out and determined to turn his life around. Locked up when he was barely 18, he went in a nice, innocent kid, and came out a hardened bad boy with an attitude. But Ayden never expected that living on the outside would turn out like this.
Autumn Bishop worked her way to the top. She doesn’t have time for games or players, but that’s exactly what she’s surrounded herself with at her job and when Ayden King stumbles into her life she finds herself turned off and turned on at the same time.
Conviction is a steamy, bad boy romance filled with twists and turns. Perfect for fans of Kelly Favor, Hannah Ford, M.S. Parker and Claire Adams.
That was difficult to read. I mean the story wasn't bad, but the writing was very clunky and rough and didn't flow well at all. Transitions were awkward or non-existent. Sudden temporal shifts kept things off balance to the point where I felt dizzy and confused. It seemed as though whole sections of chapters were missing, almost making me want to abandon the book.
I also felt no connection between the two main characters. Most of their interactions were strange, and the romance felt like it went from zero to full throttle in the blink of an eye. Even the love scenes were truncated versions of boring. The whole thing was just... lacking. It was just rushed and unbelievable.
The whole book read like this was a rookie author, but upon researching, I see she's written over twenty books. If this is another instance of an author mass producing with no regard for quality, at the very least, get some close to you read and make suggestions.
The story is all that saved it from the dreaded "one star."
The concept of the story was intriguing. I liked the story for the most part but found myself skimming toward the end. There was a lot going on and the story was all over the place at times. It was predicatble and obvious at times. I did like the . Ayden spent 15 years in jail for a crime he did not actually commit. He took the fall for best friend Jace and when he got out, Jace took care of him. Ayden didn;'t want a handout. he wanted to make his own way. He is loyal, proud and wants to do right. Autumn is a strong, smart and independant business woman. She can stand on her own. The romance was sweet and a left a lot to the imagination. The story was ok but could have been better
This book was good not fantastic though the story was good I had issues. This books sex scenes are horrible no sense of direction it's Rated PG if I rate it like a movie. The characters and storyline are great but the way put it together was rushed .
***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** This wasn’t the best read, but it wasn’t the worst either. It is a fast paced book, however it felt jumpy in certain spots. There seems to be some areas lacking description, but the scenes that had plenty seemed to make up for it. I was kind of hoping for more when after reading the synopsis, but all in all it was a decent read. We start with Ayden getting out of jail after serving 15 years for a crime he did not commit, he covered for his friend Jace who had a future ahead of him. Autumn is Jace’s assistant, who upon meeting, Ayden had seemed to become infatuated with her immediately. However, Autumn isn’t willing to succumb to his flirting and does everything to push him away initially. There is plenty of excitement to read; embezzlement, romance, and issues still around regarding Ayden, so it’s not a cut and dry story. All in all it is a good book, will definitely look into more books with this author.
I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Ayden King was a wrongly convicted man, now he's out fifteen years later and determined to build a life for himself. His best friend Jace Knight was allowed an NFL career thanks to King taking the fall for his best friend and is now determined to hand Ayden a rich life style free of charge. Autumn Bishop (yes, they are all named for chess pieces), Jace's personal assistant is very hesitant about Jace hiring an ex-con, but can't seem to keep her attention off of him either.
All in all an interesting premise. I enjoyed the story. The writing was okay although a better editor was needed. Very often in the story a mis-typed word threw me for a loop for a moment or two. It was generally pretty easy to figure out what something was supposed to say, but it still takes you out of the story for a second. Still... four stars because I really liked the characters and the story despite that.
Rant Incoming: Although I enjoyed this story, I can't say I am putting other "books" by this author on my to-read list considering most of them are around 30 pages long. To me, that isn't a book, it's a marketing ploy and I'm not interested. I never read The Green Mile for the same reason even though each initial installment was considerably longer that Ms. Danes "books." Yes, I get that they are now available as "box sets," but why?
I started reading reading this book and was kinda thrown off by not knowing why Ayden was in prison so it was kinda hard for me to follow through the story until and 16% into the book. Then the "lights" went on in my head. This is the first time I've read a book by this author so please don't hate my review its just my honesty here. I liked it but I didn't love it. At some pints in the book I had to keep reading and going back then forward again so I could fully understand what was going on. I'd rate this as a 3 1/2 stars. I was gifted a copy for my honest review.
BE STILL MY HEART!!! LOTS OF SEXY GOODNESS!!! Title: Conviction Author: Ellie Danes Designation: A Full-Length Standalone COntemporary Bad Boy Romance, NO CLiffhanger Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Four Sexy Stars**** ***This story was included as a free bonus in my purchase of Danes' latest release, Judgement.
I truly liked this book but I find myself conflicted over the rating. I've been a Danes fan since she began her writing career several years ago and enjoy her always elegant style but as much as I really loved the premise for this story, the execution fell short of my expectations. There were just too many problems with different elements of this story. One example was conflicting information given in three different locations about the hero's father and whether/when he visited his son in prison... and all three were different. At times the story was disjointed and missing several scene breaks making it difficult for a reader to transition to a new setting, scene or time. Also, I noticed head hopping in quite a few places where one character makes an observation or statement with no basis for him/her to know. Additionally, I found other elements to be unrealistic. I know this is fiction but it's still contemporary romance and should, therefore, be somewhat believable. A perfect example is the overall portrayal of Ayden King in this story. King is the bad boy hero who was wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit but decided to take the rap because of his undying loyalty to his childhood friend, Jace Knight. King was only seventeen or eighteen at the time of his conviction and had apparently just finished high school. Before he ever had a chance to experience life, he was sent to prison where he spent fifteen years. I find it difficult to believe that a man in his early thirties, who by his own admission had spent half of his adult life in prison, could be so worldly immediately after being released from prison. When he was given a beer on the day of his release, he admitted it was his first drink of alcohol. He was not from a wealthy family and had an ordinary upbringing. He did acquire a business degree while in college but that still doesn't explain his vast knowledge in a variety of areas, not to mention his sexual prowess. This story had such potential and all the elements for a great read...suspense, mystery, intrigue, lies, deceit, betrayal, heated attraction, and dreamy romance, although the romance was more of a slow, steady burn that built momentum as the story progressed. It was all there and in classic Danes style, but it just needs a little polish and editing love. But now that I've discussed some of the problems, I'd liked to include what I really liked about the story. Conviction is a fast-paced, full-length standalone contemporary bad boy romance with his and her first person narrative. The dialogue is smart, snappy and well executed without expletives and profanity. I love a dirty-talking, trash-mouth bad boy as much as the next girl but it is so refreshing to read a story about a real man who doesn't have to resort to profanities in every sentence to get the girl. But hands down, my favorite element and true stars of this story are the characters. I was immediately smitten with bad boy Ayden King, a true sexy selfless hero with lots of heart. I also fell head over heels for spunky, independent, and very intelligent executive assistant Autumn Bishop, the heroine of this seductive tale. And the secondary players were absolutely captivating. I think I had a huge crush on Jace Knight, wealthy businessman, ex-pro football player, and Ayden's best friend. Heck, I even liked one of the bad guys, David Rooke. Well, like may be an overstatement. I actually disliked him but he was the kind of character everyone loves to hate. Overall, this story had its strengths and its weaknesses but I will say, I believe the good far outweighed the bad. Did I like this story? Yes, I did! Would I recommend it? Yes, I'd still recommend it. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Ellie Danes is one of my favorite go-to authors for true contemporary romance... and it's always classy! And finally, was I entertained? You bet! Great read!
Holy crap! What took me so long to read this book! Ellie Danes just moved WAY UP my one click list. I had no idea what I was getting in to when I started the free read, but Ayden and Autumn's story will stick with me for a while. This could easily have come off as a standard ex-con meets sweet girl trope, but Danes give this scenario new depth and gives her characters honest emotions and reactions to their circumstances and surroundings...as much as you can in fiction of course. I would have gone 5 stars but there were a couple of inconsistencies that bugged me. They were obviously minor, but just enough. Autumn has a very out of character and somewhat miss-placed crisis of weird self-doubt about 2/3 through the book. It really took me out of the story for a while, and then it just sort of went away. Also, Ayden went into prison at 18, but is somehow very worldly when it comes to women? It just felt off. Whatever, this is a great story of love and friendship and life lessons; there is suspense, humor, and some awesome chemistry that builds up in a delicious way. I normally prefer a lot more sex in my reads, but the story carried this book well and kept you interested in the twists and turns of the circumstances. There was a lot of emotion coming through that kept the reader engaged in the story. I became invested in these characters! The lifelong friendship that was a lesson to everyone who was around it. The idea of taking a chance on someone. The (obvious) villain-esqe character that got his, the family component that had to be worked through. This was a solid story of a man accepting responsibility for his own life, allowing others to care, and of a woman who trusts her gut and makes (mostly) good decisions. Highly recommended!!!
I received a review copy of this book from the author. I really enjoyed this book. The story is intriguing and suspenseful and hooked me right from the beginning, with a couple of twists along the way that caught me completely off-guard. The author brought each of the characters to life - Autumn is an independent and smart heroine and Ayden is an engaging, drool-worthy and somewhat reluctant hero. The story itself is a complex and compelling tale of friendship, sacrifices, second chances, betrayal and doing the right thing. The chemistry between Autumn and Ayden is immediately apparent and slowly builds into a romance that sizzles with heat.
My only criticism of this book is an editing issue. There were some scene breaks missing throughout the story that resulted in some difficult transitions between scenes and made the story seem choppy at times. This is an easy fix and doesn’t detract from the excitement and poignancy of the story.
This was an interesting take about two best friends, Jace and Ayden, who were very close and Ayden ends up taking the wrap for a crime for Jace who has a promising NFL career ahead of him. So 15 years later, Jace has amassed a multi-million dollar business and is waiting for Ayden when he exits the prison. He has a place in his business for him as Ayden adjusts to being back in society. Autumn is Jace's assistant and there is an immediate sexual attraction between her and Ayden. Now throw in an embezzling devious partner, dubious business practices, an estranged father, mafia type dealings and a murder, and you have a one heck of a roller coaster ride of a story! The reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it started out slow and dragged in some areas. It had a HEA and no cliffhanger! I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review.
Ellie Danes is one of my favourite authors but this is the first book that I didn't give a 5 star rating. In all fairness though, I do not normally read 'bad boy' books and I think this was the reason that it was difficult for me to stay interested. However, that is not to say that it wasn't a good book by any means. The storyline was well written and I enjoyed the way Ayden & Autumn came together and how their relationship evolved. Add to this some twists and turns and some mystery thrown in for good measure with a HEA ending. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a 'bad boy' because Ayden is that is spades. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and originally posted this on another website on April 23, 2016.
I enjoy reading Ellie's book! her writing is amazing and her characters.
Ayden gets sent to jail for 15 years for something he didn't do. Once he gets out his best friend plans on making it all up for the years he's lost! He must learn to live outside in the real word but all at once he gets everything handed to him! he struggles with his new freedom and new life!
Lots of twit and turns. but super good read to get lost in.
Ayden has spent 15 years in prison to protect his best friend, Jace, but can he protect him from everything? Autumn has worked for Knight Holdings for a while now and also tries to protect Jace, from his own generosity and others taking advantage of him. She wonders if Ayden is just another one of these predators. Ayden and Autumn soon find themselves with more in common than just trying to protect Jace. I absolutely loved this book! Great story, great characters, you've just got to read it! I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am leaving my honest review.
Ayden with to prison for crime he didn't do. He spent fifteen years in prison for his best friend Jace. When he gets out Jace is there for him with a job. Autumn is Jace's assistant. Ayden and Autumn start to see things in Jace'e business don't add up. Will they find out what's wrong? Will they give each other a chance at love? I was surprised how much I enjoyed the story and the characters. It's a great read.
ayden and autumn yummy...he gets out of prision and his best friend jace is waiting for him( ayden took blame for drugs forjace and got locked up} ayden moves in his mansion and falls for autumn who worked for jace....one night jace is in an accident and passes....is one employee david had something to do with his death and wants control of jaces company.....excellent reading love and mystery all in one but is a great story.read it to find more details.....
Decent read. I feel like it jumped around and left a lot of detail out in several pertinent areas and many things were rushed. However, it kept me intrigued enough to read it in one day so decent at the very least.
Very well written book with strong characters and excellent story line. It is an intense story and definitely keeps your attention. No spoilers as you need to get the feel of the story as you read it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
I loved Ayden from page one. He was dealt a pretty rotten hand at 18, but didn't let that change the man he would become. I loved his friendship with Jace, and his relationship with Autumn. There were enough plot twists to keep me on my toes, and a few things that made me cry. I totally enjoyed the journey Ellie took me on!
Life handed Mr. King a crap deal. He went to prison for a crime he did not commit. When he gets out his friend dies and leaves him everything. So now he must adjust to life on the outside and running a multi-million dollar company and a few other things. Oh, and it is hot as well. I really enjoyed this book.
Conviction by Ellie Danes is an intense read. One's heart goes out to Aiyden.... he experiences trials no man should ever go through. His complex internal relationship and his own struggle for regaining his own self worth are excellently written. Edgy and sometimes rough, this is a true love story about redemption, morals & values, choosing the right course with a bit of justice thrown in.....
I finished Conviction by Ellie Danes a few minutes ago....I'm not sure how I feel about it. In some ways I feel like it was really rushed through and in other ways I feel like it was so drawn out.
It has the potential to be a great book but it lacked detail where you wanted it and had too much detail where it wasn't needed.
All in all, the story wasn't so bad that I wouldn't read another one of her books since this is the first book I've read from this author; however, it won't be my next read.
***SPOILER ALERT*** If you don't want any spoilers stop reading now!!
The story starts out with Ayden King being released from prison. He's been locked up for over 10 years for a crime he didn't commit. The backstory on what he did or didn't do gets a little confusing since one part of the book indicates he was carrying a package......
When Ayden meets Autumn he thinks she's beautiful but that's really it. There's no instant connection or looks shared....then as soon as Jace dies they are involved. No build up. Nothing. I felt like it was in the next few pages that they were engaged. Hell, they got engaged and "I love you" was never spoken between them.
The situation with the Mertz brothers could have been better developed as well. It just seemed like it started and ended...I didn't feel like there was any build up before it was over.
Over all a decent read but not great.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a for fun read but OMG I loved it and as you can tell by the quickness in which I read this book that I COULD NOT put it down for long. This book caught me from The first chapter and never let go.
Ayden was a hot convict that now has to work his way to clearing his name but luckily he has a bit of help. He has a lot more than he could have ever asked for when he got out and then on top of it he found a sexy woman that he could not leave alone.
Jace is Ayden's best friend that has made a big name for himself through football initially but then from other venues. Jace is the only family Ayden has left and they stick together through everything.
Autumn is the hot assistant to Jace and Ayden was in love from the first sight but she's a hardass and refuses to give in to his flirting. She knew there were better choices out there for Ayden and refuses to settle when she had more important things to handle.
This book was awesome and obviously my fav is Ayden because he is just such a badass with a soft side for those he loves. That's always my fav in a sexy man, a hard yet soft bad boy.. Yummmtastic!!!
Great read and I sooooo wanna read more of Ellie's books!!!
I absolutely loved this book it's a big step away for Ellie knowing her books come as a series normally but I'm so plzd this is an full book with a great HEA. Ayden King has spent 15 years in jail for a crime he didn't commit, he took the rap for his best friend Jace Knight,Now on the outside Ayden is thrust into a millionaire life style courtesy of Jace. Jace feels there's never going to be enough he can do to repay Ayden but he makes a start with a job, clothes,a place to live and an insight to the business Jace has built when he retired from NFl, to which his career would never have been possible had Jace been the one thrown in jail. Jace really is the only family Ayden has and apart from his close work team Jace only has Ayden. There's a slow to start romance for Ayden with a ( miss Autumn bishop) and some embezzlement from one of Jaces not so nice workers .There is a sad death :-( and more trouble on the horizon for the newly released jail bird. Well done again Ellie great full book
Imagine going to prison for something that you are actually innocent for, but you did it so that your best friend could have a future. That best friend is the one person who is there for you when you get out and he helps you. Every one else believes you are scum. This is what has happened to Ayden King. When he gets out of prison, his best friend believes that he needs to give him everything in return for going to prison, but Ayden wants to earn his way in life.
Autumn Bishop, believes that Ayden is scum and wants nothing more than to have handouts from her boss, his best friend.
She finally begins to see that Ayden is really not what she thought and helps him to change what every one else sees him as, also.
There is violence, love, lust, sex, mystery, hypocrisy, and so much more. There are so many twist and turns that you cannot put this book down. However, this is also the sad truth of what our world is truly like.
Another excellent book from Ellie. Way to Go Ellie. You are awesome.
This author was new to me and CONVICTION is the first novel by her I've read/reviewed. I don't know where to start except I love this book. The plot has twists and turns, angst, unyielding love, romance, danger, sadness, betrayal, and friendship . It has everything I love in a book. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The plot was well thought out and not the typical anything. The characters from the easy to love to love to hate were so developed that I felt that they were my friends and enemies. Autumn is one strong and independent heroine I was wanting to back her up when she raged or felt threatened. She is firm in who she is and her beauty and femininity shines threw. In my opinion are also 4 heroes within these pages and every single one of them unforgettable. I highly recommend this book and this talented author. I hope the supporting characters like Darla & Alan get their own novel. I will be buying, & reading more of her books in the near future. I bought 4 complete series just before I wrote my review so I'll be reviewing those as well. Happy reading everyone <3
