This was my least favorite of the series thus far, although I still enjoyed it.
Something was missing for me as far as the plot/suspense went.
It just didn't draw me in, keep me on the edge of my seat, as much as previous books.
Regardless, I of course enjoyed every moment between Roarke and Eve.
And I appreciated the situation between Feeney and Eve too. Their father/daughter dynamic in the face of all the things Eve went through with her real father is sweet and I loved how Roarke stepped in to mediate here.
Looking forward to the next one, as usual.

In diesem Band dreht sich alles um weiße und schwarze Magie und Hexen... Ein interessantes, wenn auch oft düsteres Thema.
Ich fand den Kriminalfall gut und spannend, auch wenn man weiß, in welche Richtung es gehen wird. Das muss nicht immer schlecht sein.
Ein gutes Buch und eine gute Mischung aus Kriminalgeschichte und Erotik. Außergewöhnlich ist wohl auch, dass es in der Zukunft spielt, auch wenn das eigentlich nur hin und wieder wirklich auffällt.
Ein solider fünfter Band. Er hat mich nicht umgehauen, aber er war gut.

For once, he slept first. She lay in the dark, listening to him breathe, stealing a little of his warmth as her own body cooled. Since he was asleep, she stroked his hair.
"I love you," she murmured. "I love you so much, I'm stupid about it."
With a sigh, she settled down, closed her eyes, and willed her mind to empty.
Beside her, Roarke smiled into the dark.
He never slept first.
Ahhhh don't you see? He's so perfect... :) Ugh I'm crazy about him, I'm crazy about Eve and I'm so crazy every fucking thing about this series. <3

This one was fun, but I think I might have done a little bit of laughing for the wrong reasons. You see, Eve is supposed to be the very best cop in homicide and yet she ALWAYS - in every book - arrests or detains the wrong person at some point. And, she OFTEN gets rescued by her billionaire husband, Roarke-not-a-cop. But, I love the series anyway. Usually because of Roarke. He is the Irish Cream in my coffee.

(okay, if my husband sees this, I am denying everything. I will say I wrote it at gunpoint. That might be reason enough to not have him divorce me for saying anything about liking an Irish guy. (It's an English guy thing))
But, assuming he never sees this review or any other, let me tell you more about Roarke, my dream-book-boyfriend.
He's spiritual and gave Eve a wedding band that is engraved with Celtic symbol of protection.
This was a new aspect of him that would take time to explore. "But you don't have, like, a secret room where you dance around naked and chant?"
"I did, but I turned it into a den. More versatile."
He's positive. Always seeing the good in people.
After a meeting with a Satanist who threatens their lives on his way out:
"What an attractive young man," Roarke commented. "I do believe he'll be a delightful addition to Hell."
He's stubborn, but smart. When Eve gets mad at him for picking her up at the police station with a limo:
Eve: "Carter just had it announced over the main that my carriage awaited anon. What an idiot. I don't know whether to kick his ass or yours."
"Kick his," Roarke suggested.
He's charming. After Eve goes on about how much she hates the country because there are no drug-addicts, murders, or hookers like in the city:
"Life with you has such.... color."
She snorted. "Yeah. Like everything was gray in your little world before I came along. All that wine, women and money. Must have been pretty tedious."
"The ennui," he said on a sigh, "was unspeakable. I might have faded away from it if you hadn't tried to hang a murder or two on me."
And, let's not forget that he has a mansion with an indoor pool, a butler, and the latest technology that money can buy. Oh, and he's hot.

Yeah, he's topping my book-boyfriend list right now. I think I need to just go ahead and read the next 35 books or so...

In this fifth book of the Eve Dallas In Death series, Eve is investigating the case of a fellow police officer, and it turns out his granddaughter may somehow be twisted up in the case—as well as a bunch of people practicing satanism and witchcraft. I really enjoy the police procedural aspect of these books. Eve is such a great character, and I love all the secondary characters as well. Each book has a different feel to it, which keeps the series fresh, but what really makes this series a great read for me is getting to come back to the same set of characters each time—Eve, Roarke, Peabody (my personal favorite), Mavis, Feeney, Whitney, Sommerset. Such a great series.

She hasn’t let me down yet. Another great addition to this series. I will say the murder theme was intriguing but it was a tad bit gruesome.
While I would LOVE more time where Roarke and Eve are together I am finding that it doesn’t much matter anymore. JD Robb can write some pretty intense, hot and sexy scenes when they are and I get my fill.
In the midst of all the crazy shit that goes on in Eve’s life as she tracks down the murderers, Roarke places himself in the middle as her silent (well sort of) protector. Without doubt Eve loves him but is surprised by how deeply she feels for this man.
Beyond Roarke and Eve, with each book we get more of the secondary characters. In this one Eve has to make a choice that threatens the relationship she has with Feeney. My heart broke a bit for her. There are few people in her life that she values and Feeney is one of them. He questions her loyalty and that hurts Eve more than she ever expected.
And in the middle of the craziness we have Peabody. She provides for a bit of humor and god knows Eve could use a bit of that. But when Eve finds she has a tattoo of a rosebud on her ass she's not laughing. :)
"You've been drugged, slapped, tied up naked, and nearly killed, but a rose on your butt humiliates you?"

Ceremony in Death is the fifth book in the In Death Series by J.D. Robb. I have read numerous reviews on this series and the one common thing reviewers say is this series just gets better and I would have to agree with them. As soon as I finish a book in this series, I want to quickly pick up the next one, but I hold back because it's a series I don't want to hurry, I just want to enjoy every book I read.
With a lot of suspense, intrigue and great characters this was a very entertaining read and yes, you guessed it, I can’t wait to read the next one. Highly recommended.

Gripping as always, this instalment brought something new and exciting to the series. Is there or isn't there a place for a little supernatural in a world dominated by technology? My answer is a cautious "yes" but you may disagree and that's ok too. So far J.D. Robb did alright by me and as long as that continues In Death will have a place on my shelf. It doesn't hurt that I'm hopelessly in love with Roarke either ;)

I think that this is my favorite of the series so far. I mean, there wasn't anything wholly new other than the fact that Roarke played more than a token lover/husband role in this one....the man gets to show his protective side in a major way. You know how he's always toning Eve down, bringing her back down to earth with his sexy little Irish yumminess? Welp, he loses control here. There's NOTHING hotter than when Mr. Control loses said control in the bedroom. Nothing.
And after giving Eve something to think about with his little show of domination and power, it's back to sweet Roarke, ever the tender lover...
Any big fans of Nora know that she tends to have recurrig themes in her books, all which stem from a love of them in her real life. Which is why she tends to write them so well, I imagine. A few I've noticed:
-- Dog love
-- Wiccan religion
-- Love of all things Irish
-- Cop speak - the woman writes a great woman cop
Wiccans and magic are a big part of this book...along with some satanists, both of whom are on the suspect list for Eve's cop friend and the ensuing murders that take place. And she writes the religion very well, focusing on peace and love of nature. It always makes me wish I had a Wiccan friend...they seem so soothing and down to earth.
I've got to say, this is one series that I picture the characters very specifically. Here's my Roarke:

In Death series book 5 starts with a magical bang with Eve is faced with murder that appears to tie to both Wiccans and Satanists. I liked this one and I found it to be very suspenseful. I didn’t love that Eve so easily fell for the red herring because I expect better than that for her, but overall I found the mystery interesting. I liked Isis with her documented psychic abilities and I would love to see her reoccur (even if this book didn’t make Isis inclined to want to do Eve favors). This one was a bit lighter in Roarke (he was present, but the focus was on other relationships which was nice), but I will take that trade for the more in depth look we got with her relationship with Feeney. This is a series I continue to enjoy and am glad there are so many more books for me to devour.

I like the fact that every new mystery focuses on different aspects of society and its members!
Ceremony In Death focuses on cults of white and dark magic when a woman dies after confiding in Eve about her involvement with both dark and light religious forces!
Eve is drown to a world she views with skepticism since her analytical and matter of fact mind can't seem to understand the beliefs of the members of said cults!
Roarke is as always by her side and helps her in the investigation and of course the passionate side of their relationship isn't missing in this installment!
Apart from investigating the murders Eve has also another investigation to lead that makes her feel torn since she must put aside her feelings and friendship for her mentor and questions what kind of a person she is!
Mavis with her cheerful personality makes also her appearance alongside other characters from previous books that form the circle of Eve's world!
Another story that has it all... Mystery, intrigue, humor, passion, character development of the protagonists and in this one a dive in the world of magic! I really love this series!

As far as I am concerned J.D. Robb can do no wrong and this particular book is one of my special favourites. Peabody and Eve are developing their beautiful relationship and their dialogue is brilliant. Roarke and Eve continue to be very much in love and also have some delightful interchanges. The police work is good, the element of mystery is always present and the ending is exciting and a bit scary. Oh and of course the author makes us reach for the tissue box with some tear jerking moments. Did I say some? Amend that to lots of tear jerking moments. I am so glad I am rereading this series.

I love this series so much. Sometimes the plots get so ridiculous that I laugh out loud, and yet the characters are so great, the rapport so wonderful, I can't help but want to take the ride with them, wherever it goes.

First, I would like to clear something that I think has been treated too harshly by many people, but it's my opinion and in the end, you hold your own. I'm not asking anyone to accept it, I'm just stating my opinion in my review.
Okay, really- this wasn't as bad as I expected based on the reviews. I mean everyone was like she was a Bitch Cop in the end and shouldn't have done what she did, but I don't think she had a choice. It's my opinion, not everyone agrees with it, and they don't have to. She didn't want to do it, it was crystal clear- but was it needed of her? I would say yes. She could've been a little mellower, I agree but we also need to see that she was already emotionally done for because of the similarities in their pasts and just wanted to get the case closed, so that she could go back to ignoring the dark details of her past. Is it so wrong to wish that? It was also clear that he was set up but you cannot claim something when you don't have proof to substantiate it in court or to whoever the hell you need to. And she was realizing her mistake, not being a narcissist about it.
On the contrary, I didn't like her in the previous book because she was being willfully ignorant in that one and that's why I paused after that book and read this after a while.
And Roarke….sigh...….what can I do to have a husband like that, if I ever marry? Beg? I'll do that, but nothing more since that's like the greatest hit my self-respect will take.
He's one of those few male characters who can ask me to jump whenever and granted, I won't jump but I'll consider it for like two seconds before denying instead of my knee-jerk to just punch the pretty face.
Just for the record- the image of Roarke dancing naked and chanting in my mind? Never getting out of my mind lmao.

Another solid read. I love these two, Roarke and Eve - although maybe their "together" time is few and far between. Would like some more sexy times for the two of them
I dip in every so often. I reckon if I read one a year I might be finished the series by the time I am 95!!

There was a lot going on in this book that turned me off
I will only mention one...I was on the verge of HATING Eve Dallas. The things she said and did to some of the people were just wrong. When it turned out that her assumption was off base, she didn’t even apologize.
It may take a moment for me to pick up another In Death novel.

Loved this 5th book in J.D. Robb's "In Death" series!

I hated this book. Hated it! For several reasons. I hated Eve's disrespect, even open distaste towards the Wiccans and also towards the consensual BDSM practitioners at the club. I get that Eve is an atheist rape and abuse victim, but the amount of revulsion she showed to both groups simply turned me off. There's a big difference between "I don't get it but I respect your choices" and "I don't get it and therefor you're wrong!" And Eve's attitude was all about the latter. The way she sneered at Peabody and Mira who actually had experience with Wiccans and were much more open minded deserved a slap in the face.
Another reason why I disliked this book was Roarke. He has always been an Alpha male, but the amount of dick waving he did in this book, the number of times he simply overruled Eve's decisions? Jesus!
But the main reason why my dislike for this book turned into hatred was the way Eve handled Chas. She destroyed him, completely, she reduced him to a wreck who would've told her anything, confessed to anything she wanted - on the word of a murdering sociopath. She wanted Chas to be guilty, she decided that he was guilty - even though it didn't make a lick of sense, but he was a Wiccan and his father was a murderer and that was enough for her - and she destroyed his self-respect, his peace of mind, his sanity. And when Peabody told her that what she did was wrong, Eve yelled at her, too, and the accusations she threw in her face! And at the very end, Eve was more concerned with a frickin' tattoo on her ass than with apologizing to the man she falsely accused and completely mentally destroyed.
What a BITCH! I've always disliked Eve - her being a rape victim does not give her a carte blanche to demean and disrespect others! - but this book topped it all. I'll have take an extended break from this series to cleanse my palate and get rid of the foul taste!
Another reason why I disliked this book was Roarke. He has always been an Alpha male, but the amount of dick waving he did in this book, the number of times he simply overruled Eve's decisions? Jesus!
But the main reason why my dislike for this book turned into hatred was the way Eve handled Chas. She destroyed him, completely, she reduced him to a wreck who would've told her anything, confessed to anything she wanted - on the word of a murdering sociopath. She wanted Chas to be guilty, she decided that he was guilty - even though it didn't make a lick of sense, but he was a Wiccan and his father was a murderer and that was enough for her - and she destroyed his self-respect, his peace of mind, his sanity. And when Peabody told her that what she did was wrong, Eve yelled at her, too, and the accusations she threw in her face! And at the very end, Eve was more concerned with a frickin' tattoo on her ass than with apologizing to the man she falsely accused and completely mentally destroyed.

★★★★★ This series just keeps getting better. Susan Ericksen is an excellent narrator and has developed the tone in the characters voices to perfection. She is so talented she can do Officer (Delia) Peabody with a cold, LOL! This one is about witches – both good and evil. And Captain (Ryan) Feeney and Homicide Detective Eve Dallas get into a doozey of a falling out. Can the relationship be mended? By the way, this one is Halloween Perfect, as they attend a Halloween Party in costume.

Rereading July 2025 on audio - It always amazes me how many details I've forgotten when I reread one of these books. This one is so spooky! Lot of relationship development. My previous rating stands - 5 Stars!

I love the emotional ups and downs is this book. Roarke and Eve are a great couple but also love how they protect each with even thinking of it. It's what comes natural to each of them. As much as Eve tries to believe that she doesn't have a family, she actually does with Roarke, Mavis, Feeney, Peabody, Mira and Nadine. Meeting Roarke the sweet talking Irish love who by the way still keeps the button in his pocket and now has added the IOU is the best thing that's ever happen to Eve and I believe he will be the one to help get pass the horrors of her past and will always be her Knight and a lovely Irish Knight. Yes, I love Roarke! and so happy Mrs. Robb did such a perfect job of him.

Not sure how many times I've read this book, but I still love it! Since this time around I'm concentrating on more parts of my dream home, I have to point out the home gym. I guess if you have a big gym you have to work out in a big way, like Eve does. I'm using that because my home gym is smaller, so my workout is smaller. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. See, I don't have a big, bulky droid to punch around, just a punching bag. Gotta take it easy on the poor thing. My treadmill doesn't do stairs and sand, so I do fewer miles, of course. Great excuses, I mean reasons, right?
Reread April 2018–still loving this book. All the drama and heartbreak. People trying to understand Eve and all her pockets of anxiety. In this one she has a confrontation with Feeney that is harsh. And lets not forget about the witches.

Roarke gülerek kolunu Eve'in omzuna atıp ona sıkıca sarıldı.
"Teğmen, seni seviyorum."
Ah kalbim! Siz ne güzel bir çiftsiniz ya. Şu kitapları bir ben bu ikisinin aşkı için okumuyorumdur herhalde. Gelmiş geçmiş en favori çiftim resmen. Bayılıyorum!
Büyülü Ölüm Ölüm Serisinin 5. kitabıydı ve gönül rahatlığıyla söyleyebilirim ki seri hız kesmeden devam ediyor. Konudan bahsetmeyeceğim çünkü spoilers ama bu kitap diğer dördüne oranla bir tık daha değişik olmuş bence. Benim daha çok hoşuma gitti. Şimdi geriye sadece bir bebek kaldı onu da heyecanla bekliyorum.
Eğer polisiye ve aşk seviyorsanız bundan daha iyi bir seri bulamazsınız. Tabii 18'den büyükseniz çünkü içerisinde bolca cürretkar sahne var. Bence seriyi güzel yapan da onlar. Onlar olmasa sıradan bir polisiye olarak kalırdı.
Sevgili @leydilerokuyor sayesinde ben de seriye geri dönmüş oldum. Onlar bu polisiye maratonunu yapmasa daha elim gitmezdi. 4'ü pek sevememiştim. Ama bu kitapla beraber geri dönüyorum! #leydilerpolisiyeokuyor
