A long and tedious tale of two generations of Elizabethan women. The author gets too bogged down in historical tidbits and irrelevant conversations and reflections—at least for me. The characters are shallow and the plot gets lost in all the verbiage. It may be Gothic, but it’s also a bore.Well, it was certainly long, but I didn’t get bored, although I was sometimes annoyed by the weakness and denial of Linnet and Tamsyn. Maria, the titular Witch from the Sea, remained a mystery. Senara, the evil but beloved stepsister, did seem a shallow (and unbearable) character. I do hope she’s not headed towards immolation by Puritans, though.
