This very well-organized volume is a fascinating collection of interesting and informative true experiences regarding the positive benefits of corset wear. What I found most enjoyable is that the stories serve to debunk many of the common negative myths concerning corsets while maintaining an overall uplifting tone. Some of the subjects covered include: back injuries; spinal curve problems; breast support; weight loss; mobility issues; fibromyalgia; gastrointestinal disorders; endometriosis; post-surgical recovery; body positivity; pregnancy; post-partum support; autism; PTSD; and, aging. I personally can attest to the health benefits of daily corset wear and have experienced no undesirable consequences. This regimen has truly helped me avoid another surgery while contributing to the successful birth of my third child. Thank you so much to the author, Lucy Williams, for creating this wonderful book:)
I am a member of many Victorian and Edwardian Facebook groups. While looking at posted photos of antique dresses or women in corsets I am always astounded to see the comments. Every single post will have someone comment "How could they breathe?" or "No wonder they were always fainting". These are clearly people that have never worn or corset. (Or worn one correctly) This book is the TRUTH about corsets written by people that actually wear them. They take time to get used to if you did not grow up wearing one. They are not torture devices or something that keeps women from voting. There are a variety of stories and people in this book so it was great hearing different perspectives on corset wearing.
Ok could not get into it. Very curious about corsets and followed her on you tube (Lucy Williams). I am going to put it aside and try to start it later and see if it changes.
