3.5/5 In the first volume of Chapter 2: A Week at the Mansion, we follow Subaru, Emilia and Puck, who survived the attack of the Bower Hunter, and they’re back at the Mathers’ mansion. Subaru wakes up to a couple of twins: Ram and Rem, who work as maidens. We also meet Beatrice aka Betty, the loli-like librarian and of course, Roswaal himself –Emilia’s patron.
In the following days, Subaru works for Roswaal as a butler in order to pay for his keep and also to get to know Emilia more. Slowly but surely, he learns how to do some chores and he has soft, tender moments with Emilia and the twins, but at the end of the 4th day, he wakes up at the start of the ‘new loop’, which means somebody killed him once again…
Now, this volume explained a few things about magic/mana and gates and the purpose of Emilia’s batch. She’s one of the candidates to the throne so it really was a big deal when Felt stole her batch in the previous arc.
We also get to see how he has a big, understandable crush on Emilia and her bright smile is enough to make his blood pump with new energy. But of course, he might not be entirely welcome in the mansion. So, who killed him? We’ll figure it out in the next volume!
Now, this might be confusing to some people so I feel in the need to help you out here: each Chapter is a new arc. This second Chapter is 5 volumes long, whilst the first one was only 2, and you need to read them first in order to understand what is going on.
This was even better than the first part, so much action, comedy and explanation. And also interesting characters as: Roswell, the owner of the mansion, Beatrix, the library magician aaaand twin demon sisters-RAM and REM. They are hilarious together! Subaru has become more badass and his interactions with girls are so funny. The second arc is over and the third arc which is much more painful than this one will begin!
Nowhere near as compelling as Chapter 1. The characters personalities seemed to have randomly changed. Subaru has become a typical manga character who is obsessed with women and can’t help express every desire he has. Emilia has gone from an enigmatic badass to a ditzy airhead who spends most of this volume blushing at Subaru. Fair enough, Chapter 1 was more about the story than fleshing out the characters personalities, but if this is the best they can come up with, changing potentially interesting people to generic manga stereotypes, then it can fuck off. Even the plot is boring. Half of it is introductions and the second half is Subaru becoming a maid. Boring. Where’s the plot? Nothing happens other than Subaru becomes an obnoxious ass who confesses his love ‘by accident’ every ten second, or just acts like a moron in general. “Who is this clown?” *groan* You know full well who it is you shitty generic joke!
The only good things are that Rem and Ram are interesting new characters, and the last page cliffhanger. I’m curious to see where that takes this Chapter, but I’m still massively disappointed that one of my favourite new mangas has become shit.
Subaru finally survives his day in the capital only to be mortally wounded. Luckily, Emilia's healing powers keep him alive long enough to reach the Roswaal manor where the next leg of his adventure begins. Here, he bonds with sisters Rem and Ram and spars verbally with powerful "loli-girl" Beatrice, before finding himself somehow targeted in a possible political intrigue. But who would want Subaru dead and why?
This volume starts out humorously light (before turning very dark), and Subaru remains an annoying hikikomori who spouts a goodly amount of sexist crap. Luckily, Rem and Ram aren't about to put up with this, and Beatrice is more than capable of giving back her own; plus, the story continues to be ridiculously entertaining, even though by the end Subaru is probably suffering from PTSD from dying so often and so horribly.
Este nuevo capitulo de Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World, me encantá!!!
After watching and reading the novel and the tv series adaption. I got to say, Re: zero has got to be my best read novel of all time. Without a doubt, this novel has stolen the special spot I've placed Evangelion on. In this novel and the rest of them introduces a cast of characters that blew my mind away, although it wasn't something I've never seen before, but the way the story makes them interact with each other just blows my mind. This is my biased review on the current state of Re:zero 2020.
Chapter 2 of Re:ZERO kicks off with a new artist, a new setting, and new additions to the characters. This time, Subaru grows closer to Emilia and the residents at the mansion, although it soon becomes clear that his power will kick into gear once more. It does well to settle readers into a more low-key scenario, drawing us into what will happen and making it clear that trouble remains looming large. I do wish that it moved along a bit quicker, not helped by a rapid introduction recapping the first volume, but I am curious to see what comes next.
Very funny and fascinating concept--a gamer boy slips into a fantasy universe, but ends up dying and restarting at the latest save point. He bumbles through learning about the new world's magic rules and social customs, all while trying to figure out how this rebirth thing works.
I love the way the fourth wall is constantly joked about in this down-the-rabbit-hole-fantasy. The the art is positively gorgeous (those darling maid outfit). But the fanservice is tiresome if it isn't your thing.
Natsuko finally managed to go through day 1 without dying, to find himself outside of the city, in a vast mansion. Meet new quirky characters - this book doesn't have major plot events, but introduces most of the major characters for the new story arc.

Its was so good! The action, the mingling, the spookiness! It was pretty scary/disturbing at times though, so I'm not sure what to feel about then, and it was gory but I liked that they included that action in it.
Transitional volume that leaves us with several questions about each character's role and personality. Cliffhanger at the end. I really liked the art, both the character design and the setting. A smooth and enjoyable read.
A beautifully drawn manga with fun characters and dark undertones. The first volume in Re:ZERO was pretty well done, and I look forward to reading more in the manga.
Maybe it's just me being dumb, but I honestly expected this volume to completely reset, as it where, the story, and bring in brand new characters except for Subaru to go with the new setting. So I was pleasantly surprised to find Emilia in there, and to discover that while the setting is different...it's a continuation from the first volumes!
We get so much interesting information in this volume about Emilia and who she is, and what the deal is with her that meant some of her behaviour from the first volume made so much sense! Plus it's got me really excited for the next volumes, to see how everythings going to play out, Emilia's whole storyline but everything else too!
I loved the chapter long recap of the first couple of volumes, it refreshed my memory and threw me straight back in to the world of the manga and got me back up to date! There are new and interesting characters in this volume. Betty, who I'm totally curious about but she's a librarian and therefore my favourite kind of character! There are the sisters Ram and Rem who are on the front cover, and I'm so curious about them. They're the maids of the mansion and we don't have all that much information on them, so I'm intrigued to find out how they came to be there and what the deal is with one of them and the master of the house.
Speaking of the master of the house....Roswaal. Loved him. He's hilariously eccentric. But also kind of creepy and clearly not as ridiculous as his appearance would suggest. He really reminds me of Mephisto from Blue Exorcist or Gilles from Devils and Realist. To make him even more intriguing he's the court Magician....I'm expecting great things from him, I'm not going to lie!
Along with all these new and interesting characters that I need to know more about, we get Emilia back and her friendship with Subaru grows a little in this volume. I totally ship them. They're adorable. But I want to smack Subaru sometimes! His reactions to everything are so authentic though. My one gripe with him is that the little favours he asks for got a little repetitive and seemed a little silly the more it went on. Like working at the mansion. I can't picture anyone asking for that as a reward quite frankly! His reactions to working and the dynamic between he and the sisters where pretty funny though.
I've got to say, the first arc was fun, but I feel like this arc is going to be even better. It's all going great for Subaru and then the end happens and you're like woaaaahh okay. I have a feeling this is going to be like an old school murder mystery. Ram in the bedroom with the candlestick kind of thing. We've got a small pool of suspects, so it's going to be fun working out which one is the killer. Or you know...killers.
Re:ZERO Chapter 2 really steps up the plot and takes us in a fun new direction. The new revelations promise to provide some future intrigues and action, and I feel like this volume really builds on the foundations set in the first volumes. I'm excited by the way this manga is going, and I'm looking forward to the next volume!
